I've only been there once, but I am home sick to go back they are the most friendliest and kindest people I have ever met and I have driven truck all across the United States and met a lot of people but none as more warm and welcoming as the Filipinos.

My wife always thinks it is funny when foreigners say how happy and nice the people are. They treat foreigners much different than they treat each other. Much of this kindness is fake. Sorry but this is true and most locals know this. Like foreigners who make videos of asking for food or a place to spend the night. Ya....ask a Filipino as a Filipino for a free place to stay for the night and they will tell you to get lost. Half the time we go to a restaurant they ask me what i want to drink and walk away. Stand in line at a hotel and they will often skip over the local filipino who was waiting before you and rush to take care of you first. This is special treatment but if they do not treat each other with this same kindness then you should realizs it is not real.

I left in 1979 as a kid for the US and never went back. I remember how the poor were treated and how they lived. They are worst off than our homeless in LA. I don’t buy this kindness crap. Does this apply to the men? I mean, they don't offer themselves to local men nearly as easily or frequently as they offer themselves to foreign men?
In places like these, you see a gal you like, you talk to her parents and explain that you want to take her out to dinner in town, and you take her. The rest is...well...nature taking its rightful and expected course. You'd be surprised how easy and quick, if you've got a certain way about you, it is to get with these gals.

I visited my gf in the Philippines, and she is not coming from a rich family, nor her neighborhood. Coming from NY, and working in 500 million companies, never brought me the happiness I found in Philippines. I slept on the floor, carried on buckets of water, cooked with firewood, making kanin, and so on made me understand that happiness is in the people's smile.
I am coming back to Philippines with the same enthusiast as a child. Thanks Philippines.

The fake smiles you mean? Why don't you leave your dollars at home and go live like them, work like them, struggle like them, and starve like them for years and then come back to this thread to talk to us. One thing is coming to the Philippines on vacation with your pocket full of dollars and returning back to civilization after a short stay and another one is living like a Filipino. No Filipino is happy; it's a mask. They just have resigned themselves to poverty forever and are dealing with it the best way they can.. Money is everything. Money makes you happy whether you want to believe it or not, whether in NY or in the Philippines.
Honestly, if it weren't for its women, I would have never come to this landfill. Make sure you don't swallow water when swimming at the beach either...

I was born in a place like that oversees. Living in Boston now.
My birth certificate, to this day, says my parent's address as 'shed without a number or street name'
Never thought too much about it until my late 30s when my job wanted my birth certificate translated for a background check. When I was reading it translated to English it kinda hit home and brought all the memories I had until 6 years old.
Had no clue how poor we were until many years after we left the slums; everything seemed normal.
I thought the entire world was poor, so there was no reason to be sad.

As a Peace Corps volunteer to Liberia Africa......I lived in the most remote area ..... Ziahtown One hour drive in the high bush country....from Zwedru. Grand Gedeh county . No electricity.....no water in the house. Walked 400 meters to wash my cloths by hand....down stream and got drinking water from the house roof or up stream where people washed cloths. Mail once a month. A car came to town once a day. I really enjoyed and got to know the local people ! I was the only white man in town.
One morning......since I was a distance runner.....while running I came up behind a young mom.....she had her child strapped to her back and a large bowl of palm nuts she was carrying on her head. I scared her !!!!! She dumped the nuts.....ran into the bush to hide. I didnt know what to do ! I called for her.....she finally came out of the bush. I helped her pick up the palm nuts. She left with a smile. But I felt so stupid.......foolish for scaring her ! After that......I made loud noises so they could hear me coming before I got near.
Poor........means nothing...... its a way of life.....no different then being rich.

A lot of Filipinos actually do speak really great English, some not so much it still needs work, and a fair amount don't. But really it's not like when you go there everyone is just struggling with English, nor is everyone perfect English speakers. It's more of a case by case scenario than a standard rule of thumb. Currently in the Philippines right now in Cebu, I noticed that city dwellers tend to have better English than the province dwellers.

    Some ideas for future:
    - who built this house, family member? Who fixes it when things break?
    - what do you hope for your daughter/son?
    - where do the kids play and do they ever get in trouble?
    - how did you and your husband/wife meet? How long ago? Blah blah.
    - does all family live here or in another barangqy? (Usually makes new conversation)
    - is it safe here do you hear crime?
    - what is your family favorite dish for Fiestas?
    - where to sing Karaoke?

No TV, no phone, no nothing, just people living the life that they have. You should spend a week there to change your perspective on life." Im a Filipino, born 1997, moved to the US when I was 9 (2006), I’m now 25y/o. living in Los Angeles. To tell you the truth, majority of Filipinos living in poverty like this town look at foreigners as a source of income, a way out into a better life. Hence why they welcome them with open arms. Although the moment you disrespect a local, the entire town will turn on you.
Off topic… I almost got in a fight with a foreigner during my vacation in the Philippines just a few months ago. A female foreigner tried to reserve a seat on a ferry by throwing her bag onto a seat that my friends and I were about to occupy. I threw her bag onto the ground and cussed her out. “You cant be doing that shit here. Go back to where you came from if youre going to act like that,” I told her. The other filipinos around just smirked in agreement to what I just said. Then I think to myself that if a white man said that to a foreigner in the US, consider that man CANCELLED. Thats when I realized that most Americans lack a sense of patriotism. Thanks to mass immigration no one really knows what being an American is…

I think most Americans have patriotism, we're just berated constantly and called racist (including by many Filipinos stateside) if we were to say similar things. For instance, saying such a bold and aggressive statement is something a Filipino would only consider in the Philippines, because in any western nation it would've likely resulted in a pretty nasty fist fight.
That's one of my biggest issues with many immigrant groups, they expect insanely tolerant people in the west yet will shit all over tourists in their ancestral homelands.

The way neighbors, friends and extended family congregate without a feeling of intrusion or annoyance is such a wonderful aspect of the Philippines.
Back in 2018, I was in Tabaco City in the Bicol region to watch some bladesmiths repair my friend's machetes. I brought my digital SLR camera to take some pictures as they hammered away by the fire.
Before I knew it, a small group of curious children came around the corner to see who I was and what I was doing. They wanted their pictures taken, striking all sorts of goofy poses to see who was pogi and who was pangit. They would laugh at eachother staring into the camera screen and do it again.
Before I knew it, half the barangay of children and teens came by and I was taking everyones pictures with their families and groups of friends. Kids were jumping around dancing in the street. My friend, a former ball room dancer, had dance offs with the more skilled children. It turned into a real spontaneous block party.

At least in the Philippines, the government allows the poor to cobble materials together to create un-permitted simple dwellings, Many are constructed on government greenbelt areas where these communities form. In the U.S., the poor are not allowed to do this. Instead, they wander the streets, sleep in tents and cars and are continually subject to "sweeps" by law enforcement, so in this way, the poor in the Phil are better off then the poor in the U.S.

Our dad's worked together for a bit , but we all would go down to Mexicali, back then for weekends. Went to his Grandma's "ranch" in the boonies, or in their house in town. Same poor like Phil's. Spent so much time there experiencing the harsher way of life, made me KNOW, I could handle the simple, province life here in Phil's.
Love it, just hard at times getting down off the mountain, into the city for things lol Especially, after the rains, dirt path to a road, gets real slick n muddy. Been doing things here at our new house to improve a few things. Bought a new roll of black hose (300 meters) to run from the nearby creek, to our house for our water, to bathe and do laundry. Better than the old leaky hose. More drums for storage too hahaha Tabo Tabo.....
Do drive thru a lot of barrangays on the way to the city, and to our main "proper" of town always fun in town here, people getting to know me I met and talked with the local Pulice as well. It's amazing seeing where some people just made up a place to live along some of the mountain roads here !!..............It's cool ya got to do a walk about in Mandaue , ya lost weight bro, from all your walks of course lol.....

As a child I was welcome to walk into any neighbors house without knocking anytime I wanted to. I ate many meals at neighbors homes. As Kids we played games all day. When windy we’d fly kites. One game with BB guns was a little dangerous. The rule was only shoot people below the waste. I got hit in the face a couple times with BB’s. It was a fun childhood. Neighbors had lots of animals like rabbits, chickens, cows, horses, pigs etc etc. I had a pet cow that would let me ride her. This cow belonged to the dairy farm next door. She’d come to the fence so I could get on.

Imagine in metro manila alone of not more than 700 square miles the population is more than 21 million, could you imagine what will happen to them? This is the reason since the time of Duterte, the government gave housing for resettlements in nearby provinces to uplift the lives of these poor families, most of them came from rural areas thinking their lives will be better in urban areas but, to their surprised it becomes worst as they have no knowledged to handle the advance life in metro manila so, most of them ended up squatting.

You can see plenty of it on PH, Philippines is the most transparent country I have seen with even locals exposing their own worst condition areas, I can direct you to several content creators that do walkthroughs of the most poverty heavy areas in the country.

This is an excellent video and nice to see another Scotty video!!! My brother is in the Philippines and I hear from him often, but I usually spend summers in Mexico given it is closer.

@@drewgrimm2586 either way I’ve lost all respect for regular creep. Dude has absolutely no game, looks haggard and is hella socially awkward, just bumbling around random Philippine villages repeating “peeperinos” to everyone he sees.

I think it is illegal if you give to beggars. Cause it looks like youre encouraging them.
But if you give to "friends" then it should be ok.

At the end of the video, the message is so beautiful and it pains me alot to see people suffer like this everyday, many of them might not even have a choice, an opportunity to change their lives for the better. Sometimes I wish I could be rich and perhaps open a foundation there, to help those people in need to pay the tuition at the school, help find a job, have agencies working with us to make that happen, even give some food for free or at least for a very cheap price (food that otherwise could be wasted by restaurants and super markets or something like that). But this is just a dream sadly, hope for the best for all the people in the world that live in these kind of conditions...

This video is an eye-opener! Poverty is a complex issue, and it's important to raise awareness and empathize with those facing it. Let's work together to create a world where everyone has equal opportunities and access to basic necessities. 🙏🌍🇵🇭

Speaking of showers, I wonder how they keep clean? Maybe the river, but I would worry if it’s used as the community septic. In any case, amazing how little you really need to be happy in this world.
