We just happen to play as Arthur and so we know how his character works, but to the average citizen of that time the Van der Linde gang was nothing but a bunch of cheating, thieving and murdering outlaws that probably spread fear and grief through every town that they visited in the game.

fun fact most of the James-younger gang was killed or arrested in that failed robbery, Frank James decided to surrender to authorities and after that Jesse started to rebuild the gang with two of the members being the ford brothers who would later shoot Jesse in his own home while his back was turned. note that I could be wrong about some of this

This reminds me of a scene in HBO's The Sopranos where two arguing Italian gangsters are interrupted by a restaurant waiter for not tipping. The gangsters still agitated from their argument try to dismiss the waiter for being so uptight about not being tipped, which makes the waiter lose his patience and admits his job is hard because he has to support a family, then shames the gangsters by saying, " go piss of that money on Black Jack, you jack asses," which really make the Italian mobsters mad and end up killing the waiter for speaking a hard truth about their standards in society.
If this was real life, I'd say Arthur has a point about the shootout, but it's unnecessary to chase the guy down and beat him up for what he said. I would say someone who reacts that way has some anger issues. But considering it's a video game I mightve done the same thing because who are NPCs to lecture us about morality?

I’ve played this game since it came out, have beaten the story countless times…. NEVER have ran into this guy. The sheer amount of details in this game are incredible…. Also that guy has major cojones to call out Arthur like that, especially after all the havoc he helped bring down on Rhodes

They’re just ordinary people trying to get by in their lives and a couple of outlaws come to town and start a mass shootout within weeks and cause a lot of damage. Arthur and the gang had a shootout in every town in the game. At least in all the towns before the epilogue except for black water which they already terrorize before the game starts. Ik Arthur, Sean, Micah, and Bill get ambushed in this mission. But from the law’s and Grays pov, they just got a few members of a ruthless gang trapped in a town and they try to take a chance and eliminate them

I honestly feel like some NPC's are just so stupid. Bro is wearing a bandolier, guns holstered and just looks like the sorta person you don't mess with. Honestly if I was in the RDR2 universe and I saw anyone in the Van Der Linde gang or anyone with the likes or Arthur, I would keep my mouth shut rather than them shut it for me (or not be able to open it ever again).
Why beat him? He did nothing wrong. Even he said something dissapointing towards Arthur, he didn't try to threat Arthur, only asked Arthur to leave. His only mistake (which is not his choice) is because he is one of Gray's family also. So. it's normal reaction if someone felt angry when you lost your family, same as Arthur because of Sean's tragic life. If I want to put a blame first is on Micah and Bill, since Micah has anger and greed issue and Bill is quite dumb. So, they didn't realize it was a trap (after all of the VDL gang's ruckuss acts), until Arthur knew something doesn't feel right, but it's already too late. VDL's gang was already know about the bloody feud between these two families, and yet they tried to provoke them and thinking the gang could outsmart them.

It's important that everyone remembers that the only difference between Micah and Arthur is that Arthur started to feel bad about what he did. There's a reason The Strange Man asked John if he remembered the girl Dutch shot, standing on John's future grave. We cannot outrun our sins, and men who live by the sword die by the sword.
The guy is actually completely justified in thinking that lol. If you analyze things from outisde Arthur's own perspective, it's pretty hard not to think of him and the gang as absolute psychopaths. Specially at that point in the story, since Arthur's redemption would still take a long time to actually unfold.
after sean died i went straight back to rhodes and killed everyone there. i went through so much medicine and deadeye boosts and killed so many lawmen that they stopped showing up as lawmen on the radar and they became 200 red dots like hostile animals nearby. I'm not exaggerating when i say i killed roughly 500 men, that's how much i hated seans death

Honestly, to keep up with the game lore we should get the wanted dead or alive status on every city that we did a massive shootout in the end of each chapter… after chapter 2 arthur should be dead or alive in strawberry and valentine, after chapter 3 rhodes, after chapter 4 saint denis and well.. endgame before final mission annesburg. Van horn should be the only city arthur could get without being hunted by endgame But of course, thats a fucking videogame and if people get mad not being able to visit new austin and blackwater with arthur imagine locking cities by each fucking chapter that would be insane BUT an alternative hardcore mode for new game plus could implement those mechanics, would be nice Imagine xerif malloy getting permanently mad at arthur after valentine’s massacre? I downloaded rampage, activated godmode and killed every last grey in Lemoyne. Everyone with the name "gray" was killed with gatling gun or fire, dynamit, thrown of cliffs, drowned, shot, stabbed, choked, beat the hell out of him, etc
I got a 300$ bounty in Rhodes trying to free that one guy from the gunsmith, I failed as I tried to go and find dynamite. (I just found out that the tailor in Saint Denis had dynamite for sale after 2 weeks. I can finally free him)
In my over 10 playthroughs I’ve never experienced this ! But to be honest honest after chapter 3 I try to avoid hanging out in Rhodes for immersion reasons

I honestly feel like some NPC's are just so stupid. Bro is wearing a bandolier, guns holstered and just looks like the sorta person you don't mess with. Honestly if I was in the RDR2 universe and I saw anyone in the Van Der Linde gang or anyone with the likes or Arthur, I would keep my mouth shut rather than them shut it for me (or not be able to open it ever again).

Why beat him? He did nothing wrong. Even he said something dissapointing towards Arthur, he didn't try to threat Arthur, only asked Arthur to leave. His only mistake (which is not his choice) is because he is one of Gray's family also. So. it's normal reaction if someone felt angry when you lost your family, same as Arthur because of Sean's tragic life.
If I want to put a blame first is on Micah and Bill, since Micah has anger and greed issue and Bill is quite dumb. So, they didn't realize it was a trap (after all of the VDL gang's ruckuss acts), until Arthur knew something doesn't feel right, but it's already too late.
VDL's gang was already know about the bloody feud between these two families, and yet they tried to provoke them and thinking the gang could outsmart them.
Why *not* beat him? And no, "he did nothing wrong" doesn't cut it in a Rockstar game.

Arthur and VDL's gang should understand first the consequence of disturbing these two families feud. Dutch thought the gang could outsmarted them by robbing both. But, he wrong. The gang played dangerous game and now they paid heavy toll. The same result go toward both families.
Unless you want to make Arthur becomes an evil persona like Micah, whom can do whatever he wants, beat or kill anyone without good reason, didn't care much about honor, then it's up to you. 🤷🏻♂️

It's important that everyone remembers that the only difference between Micah and Arthur is that Arthur started to feel bad about what he did.

The guy is actually completely justified in thinking that lol. If you analyze things from outisde Arthur's own perspective, it's pretty hard not to think of him and the gang as absolute psychopaths. Specially at that point in the story, since Arthur's redemption would still take a long time to actually unfold.
I spent so much time trying to cultivate good honor but wondered "What's the point" when I went on some of the missions.

after sean died i went straight back to rhodes and killed everyone there. i went through so much medicine and deadeye boosts and killed so many lawmen that they stopped showing up as lawmen on the radar and they became 200 red dots like hostile animals nearby. I'm not exaggerating when i say i killed roughly 500 men, that's how much i hated seans death

I did the same but with godmode from rampage and a gatling (insimply increased honor to max after that😂
@@user-fg5wg1kz8k i didn't lose much honour since most of them were grays and shooters. it was during my killer outlaw part of the playthrough anyway, i didn't go for honour until arthur got sick (as the writers intended)

Honestly, to keep up with the game lore we should get the wanted dead or alive status on every city that we did a massive shootout in the end of each chapter… after chapter 2 arthur should be dead or alive in strawberry and valentine, after chapter 3 rhodes, after chapter 4 saint denis and well.. endgame before final mission annesburg.
Van horn should be the only city arthur could get without being hunted by endgame
But of course, thats a fucking videogame and if people get mad not being able to visit new austin and blackwater with arthur imagine locking cities by each fucking chapter that would be insane
BUT an alternative hardcore mode for new game plus could implement those mechanics, would be nice

I downloaded rampage, activated godmode and killed every last grey in Lemoyne. Everyone with the name "gray" was killed with gatling gun or fire, dynamit, thrown of cliffs, drowned, shot, stabbed, choked, beat the hell out of him, etc

I got a 300$ bounty in Rhodes trying to free that one guy from the gunsmith, I failed as I tried to go and find dynamite.
(I just found out that the tailor in Saint Denis had dynamite for sale after 2 weeks. I can finally free him)
