For landing more tarpon, some tips are: loosen your drag, bow your rod on the jumps, replace the trebs with singles, use mono leader not flouro (for a little bit of stretch). ive been tarpon fishing for years and wish i knew all of this when I started out.
I gotta say, of the many fishing channels I watch on RUclips, you and John Skinner are the two most passionate and obsessive anglers. You both seem to capture the mind of an angler. I feel like I'm actually fishing when I watch you guys. Good job.
I was smiling and rooting for you watching this. 100% like my first tarpon fishing experience in the caymans. Couldn’t believe how hard they were to land - and these were just juvenile tarpon. Incredibly addictive. Thx for posting.
Those tarpon look like blast!!! Don't get too hooked on tarpon, you'll be a fly fisherman before you know it. Also very impressed you didn't use a thumbnail of that girl as click bait for the vid, thanks for keeping it real👍👍
Love the videos and channel! Met you on the cruise. It’s Nate, played some good volleyball and talked fishing. Fished Narragansett over the weekend and saw a lot of action.
Thank you for this. I went to saint Maartin and the fish in that canal have tripled in size. After three days and plenty of break-offs and lures spit back at me, along with three trips to the tackle shops, I finally caught and landed a tarpon about 25-30 lbs. It took a bucktail! Never was able to hook one on a treble hook. I wanted to post a picture but could not figure it out!
Just watched this what a great idea for fishing pole on ship! I have been to st marteen and Rhode that black mamba boat to the island, my kids sands toys fell off that boat and in the water lol! Nice video and now you catching tons of tarpon in Florida! Love your stuff and have a few of the setup you use. I live in Rhode island and fish all your spots on your vid’s. I also do all the fire inspection at JWU XAVIER DORMS WERE YOU ISWD TO GO TK SCHOOL ANYWAY! Love your stuff keep it up hopefully we can fish in Florida together one day!
when i first start ultralight fishing..i fish tarpon and i very love how the fish jump after hook up.. i always love tarpon but indo pacific tarpon is smaller than your place..its really rare to find that size here.. love ur video from malaysia
Its better if you use one hook baits like a swimbait, you can hit them so much harder and the hook will penetrate better. Also point the rod towards the fish when it jumps. Bow to the king
Don’t bow that’s for fly fishing bitches. You can just pull on them and turn their head when they hit the water. Just don’t pull mid jump or you will break the line.
Four fish I have always wanted to fish for and they are Bone Fish in the flats, Snook, Marlin and Tarpon. I am hoping the next time I am in Florida to see what I can get. Great video.
Waiting for the annual mullet migration around the new Smyrna beach FL. area. Tarpon are everywhere just off the beaches. It's a blast on a fly rod or relatively light tackle...
A long time ago when I often fished for tarpon I kept a diamond file in my tackle box. I'd sharpen those hooks (singles) to razor sharpness. If I didn't do that the tarpon seemed to throw my lures right back at me.
A trick I recommend in landing Tarpon is pointing your rod at the fish when it jumps. This is referred to as “bowing to the king”. Helped me in landing Tarpon 4 times the size you’re catching in this video.
New subscriber man love the videos so far I have tarpon the same size in my backyard congrats on landing a few future reference keep a metal nail file in your box helps to sharpen the hooks in between those boney silver kings
Man, Philipsburg St Maarten. Fun memories at a local tiki bar near the port called The Dirty Sanchez Crew Bar. It isn’t even on the map, but it’s the first stop for cruise ship workers. And beware, the “hot pepper” shots are sneaky.
To aggressive on hookset, and i really dont know why i see a lot of anglers pump fish in that hard :S. you got a reel with brakes for fighting, why rip the lure out of the mouth of the fish
NotYour AverageGunny have you ever even fought a tarpon bro? You let that tarpon any slack it’ll throw that hook right out of its mouth, need constant pressure
bro. just wanna share my technic ... use barbless hook or just cut the barb on your hook(i mean squize it with pliers) more chance for hook enter deeper in part of hard mouth tarpon. just try it
Hello there. Nice video. I though I was a bad angler or that I need better quality tackle, but I can see Im not the only one failing tons of tarpoon. Thats the way they are I can see. Very usefull video. And by the way, I could use any suggestions to fish them. Thanks
i fish loats of tarpon in canal and lagon in saint martin i live there so here a “pro” tip 😂, try casting about everywhere because sometime i’ve caught tarpon in water that i saw no tailing in for hours but they are there , and second you need to use soft plastic lures , i assure you any tarpon will bite a white grup with those tails things . cheers from the caribean saint martin island 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
Hey man if you are ever wanting to plan a trip for tarpon or snook give Nicaragua a look there’s a place on the Caribbean side called rumble in the jungle in blue fields it’s run by a guy from Tennessee and he has a few guides who will take you out and you will catch fish almost all day especially when the tides roll I mean when I’ve been we would catch 15-20 snook within a couple hours and there are some massive tarpon out there as well
when I went tarpon fishing in Puerto Rico the one thing my guide told me not to do was set the hook...it's counter-intuitive but you gotta let them hook themselves and jerkin' it is only gonna rip it from its mouth
You might try changing the trebles to some inline single hooks. You can put some pretty good size single hooks on that yo-zuri. I realise you just can't walk into a tackle shop and pick them up but when you get back home look into that. Rapala makes some great looking suspending lures that come with the single hooks.
Great video man... with Tarpons you need to bow to them when they jump, that will increase your chance of landing them. They don’t call them Silver King for nothing.. you need to bow to them!
King fishing is great but brother you are going to take some treble hooks in the hand. You got to get a Boga grips and Syhood 2 to remove hooks and reduce the risk of getting a hook in your hand.
Rich you got to get down to Florida to the Everglades for Lake Okeechobee through some bass fishing or after that go down to the Keys through some good King fishing a lot of action down there save up your pennies
For landing more tarpon, some tips are: loosen your drag, bow your rod on the jumps, replace the trebs with singles, use mono leader not flouro (for a little bit of stretch). ive been tarpon fishing for years and wish i knew all of this when I started out.

So happy I'm not the only person who's right handed but reels and casts with their right
Sean C M left is only good for holding high up on the pole or tying knots.
Sean C M jajaja me to man jajaja
Me too
Same here!
Disgusting
I never thought about bringing a fishing pole while on a cruise ship. This is awesome!
I gotta say, of the many fishing channels I watch on RUclips, you and John Skinner are the two most passionate and obsessive anglers. You both seem to capture the mind of an angler. I feel like I'm actually fishing when I watch you guys. Good job.
one thing to never ask a tarpon "dont jump"😂. sweet video man!
9:48, im addicted to these, my heart is racing!. I always feel that everytime i catched a fish
I was smiling and rooting for you watching this. 100% like my first tarpon fishing experience in the caymans. Couldn’t believe how hard they were to land - and these were just juvenile tarpon. Incredibly addictive. Thx for posting.
never leave home without you rod!!! as soon as it starts to get hot u got to roll. Respect
Hey Rich! Fishing for tarpon in St Maarten is INSANE! They are EVERYWHERE...I go to Oyster Bay and have hours of fun catching them...great video!
I am moving to sxm this summer i am really exited for the fishing there! Tnx for the video and the good fishing spots
Those tarpon look like blast!!! Don't get too hooked on tarpon, you'll be a fly fisherman before you know it. Also very impressed you didn't use a thumbnail of that girl as click bait for the vid, thanks for keeping it real👍👍
Smoove move 14:28 👌 haha. Sick tarpon bite! Looks like you had a awesome vacation.
Love the videos and channel! Met you on the cruise. It’s Nate, played some good volleyball and talked fishing. Fished Narragansett over the weekend and saw a lot of action.
Wow those tarpon are hard to hook. Good to see you were able to land a few.
Many moons ago, we used to fish the South Florida canals and catch loads of Tarpon... 18-24". Very acrobatic and loads of fun.
Love these videos. I love it when there fishing in the sea. It's like you're there. In the sea. Not insane
That's some amazing Tarpon footage! Awesome catches! Keep crushin em and enjoy your trip, I can't wait for more videos.
That little kid was so wholesome
Just came back from St Maarten. Fished this exact spot. I was on the wall fishing. Hooked like 18. Landed 1. All were in the 3-4' range. Wow!
Where is this spot going on a cruise next week thanks!

I would have said it if you didn't.
You sir, are correct!

I've loved your Channel! Subscribed! Hugs from Brazil!
Beautiful *Video* Congratulations Fisherman, have a very successful week!👍🎣🐠🐟
Tarpon is one fish I haven't gotten yet!! Hooked em but never got him to shore. Awesome video looks so pretty there
Waaaaaaaattttt lol that was some crazy action and they spit hooks like sunflower seeds down there haha crazy fish
Wow, full of tarpoon, nice spot
They filled a large portion of the pond in recent years for construction of municipal buildings. Also the islands landfill backs up on it.
Four fish I have always wanted to fish for and they are Bone Fish in the flats, Snook, Marlin and Tarpon. I am hoping the next time I am in Florida to see what I can get. Great video.

One of the most entertaining videos I’ve seen in a while!! Props on the great adventure and catches!!
Thanks bro! tight lines!
wow. so many strikes. 👍
That looked like a lot of fun!
awesome vid. I love watching all your vids. I learn from them...
insane fight !!! silvers king is always best game fish for a light tackle
Oh so much fun! Without cruise ship it would be perfect!
i heard if you bow the tip of your rod when they jump it helps keep them on
Were was that I’m going in April and need some gidence
Can you please tell me we’re you were
Wow..big tarpon..nice
Thanks for sharing, that was crazy fun tarpon fishing!
Sweet Tarpon. Those are the fun sized. Come to Tampa Bay in the summer and we will go for some monsters
A long time ago when I often fished for tarpon I kept a diamond file in my tackle box. I'd sharpen those hooks (singles) to razor sharpness. If I didn't do that the tarpon seemed to throw my lures right back at me.
Great video man glad u came to st.marteen. u should visit the bvi also. Looks like you visited the island after those hurricanes everything is brown

I've had real good luck using large lures ,like over sized mirror lures,or like the one your using but 10-12 inches long, for really big tarpon.
Keep up the great work!
All the best,
Jimmy Willis
I could fish there for a week and catch nothing but an STD! 😂😂😂
PBRstreetgang good one
😛😛😛😛😛😛
what is STD?
@@ifillam7511 Sexual Transmitted Disease

Awesome video Rich!!
Man, I wish I had tarpon in my backyard. Great video!
Its like south Florida but better!
Yeah, except for the raw sewage dumping into all the waterways.
@@fareshajjar1208 I was gonna say, that water looks like diarrhea.
Love your fishing attitude 🤝
Tarpon fishing is the best!
Dude your channel is amazing
Thanks bro!!

that was awesome. vacation fish are the hardest to catch
Love the effort you put in your videos keep it up
Awesome video
That was great. What a day❗️
Very nice video!!! its my dream catch a tarpon....i loose one at Cuba this september....
I would love to see some slow motion jumps!!!! That’s cool man.
I found that if you use a little stiffer rod, the hook will set better in their bonny mouth/jaws.
looks like you found the honeyhole, flyfishing there would be a blast !
Small tarpon are fun just plain fun.
That tarpon fishing looks so much like fishing back bays and lower tidal channels in the Northeast for tailors and big schoolies/small keepers.
New subscriber man love the videos so far I have tarpon the same size in my backyard congrats on landing a few future reference keep a metal nail file in your box helps to sharpen the hooks in between those boney silver kings
Definitely have to give fishing a try on the next trip! Awesome video brotha!
definitely bring a little travel rod . Thx bro!

Mikey Dip haha yeah It was pretty lit on the cruise so the islands were like half time. Hotter pepper shots though 😆
Nice catch so funny 👍👍👍
It’s unreal how they spit hooks like that
SchusterFishing it's more of him ripping it out of their mouth trying to look cool for the camera
To aggressive on hookset, and i really dont know why i see a lot of anglers pump fish in that hard :S. you got a reel with brakes for fighting, why rip the lure out of the mouth of the fish

Awesome! What are the rules for fishing at the destinations of cruises?
Awesome video. I think that you'll land more if you don't jerk the rod and start winding in like crazy once you hook one.
The one you hooked up on while walking back to was awesome 😎
CRAAAAZY fish haha
bro. just wanna share my technic ... use barbless hook or just cut the barb on your hook(i mean squize it with pliers) more chance for hook enter deeper in part of hard mouth tarpon. just try it
That rod looks FRESH
yea dude there have been several hurricane since the years you have come through this area enjoy your time here brother. welcome

Would you get more hooks up if you changed to single hooks ,, just a thought ..
14:55 skipjack*, but a very similar fish
it's a juvie Jack Crevalle... defintely not a skipjack
Nah, not skipjack man.
it's awesome fishing experience dude..
So noting from this point forward you would come to know the name Jack Crevalle very well? Epic!
