A great storyline, 100% aligned with Star Wars. A strong head apprentice, anxious about "making it", who makes a terrible mistake because of that anxiety, and uses it to learn and become the best version of herself. It could remind you of Luke on one side, or Anakin on the other (who sadly couldn't use his failure as a lesson). Wonderful work.
Ko was impatient, made a mistake and paid a heavy price for it. Seven minutes, and I'm more in love with a fan character than most in the canonical saga. Brilliant work!

As someone who dove into Bushido as a way to cope with being paralyzed and no longer able to practice martial arts, I really appreciate the use of philosophy here. The unbalanced, headstrong apprentice, the calm, yet focused teacher. The humility of the whole film speaks volumes louder than the big screen ones. No big spectacle, no fancy effects, just two people, just words and some simple scenes. Great storytelling, clear character establishment, and growth. A bookending juxtaposition of reversed character roles, really well done.

Stephen Vitale Word of Mouth is one of the greatest tools in the industry & you all definitely deserve it... Genuinely captured the essence & feel of the Star Wars lore. Impeccably done.
what I liked most about this short film is that the dialogue is not cheesy at all, that's something I dislike about most SW fan films. Good job, guys and gals ! :)
A short focused more on story, atmosphere and depth rather than focusing on choreography. A rarity, yet done VERY well. Really like it, and i hope it has a continuation. Hoshino looks like a really interesting character 🔥🔥🔥
This is fabulous. So often Jedi-focused fan films seem to be about how awesome Jedi are, it's nice to see one focused on errors and the effort to overcome them.
Confident but not arrogant in her confrontation. The tragedy of her youthful exuberance seems to have made her stronger. As close to a perfect portrayal of what a jedi master should be that could be accomplished in 7 minutes. Amazing and beyond well done, this is what Star Wars should be.
I always get chills at the end. Great job Stephen Vitale with this short film! "We are the guardians of peace in the galaxy. We defend and protect. We never attack."
So I'm at this museum with my cousin Ignacio and he told me "Hey yo, I met this crazy fine Jedi chick at the Mos Eisley cantina the other night. Like fine fine. Like, crazy stupid fine."

One of the best Star Wars fan films out there. Not only is the quality there but the character has more depth and dimension than many other shorts in general. A fine balance between action and heart. Fantastic job!
Wow! Practically made me tear up when she lost her vision. Seems like she's reflecting alot on the past and what her master has taught her. Only can assume he's long dead and she's one of the last Jedi being hunted. That was a powerful short film packed with emotion ! Bravo 👏👏
@@Daneelro but you could see the tie fighters in the beginning lolll so I'm pretty sure those were some kind of inquisitors or force sensitive soldiers under the empire

This is why I hate when ppl call us FAN boys because we want this. It's pretty confusing because a fan boy to me is one that doesn't Kno the true lore of Starwars
A method first created and first seen in the KOTOR games Then described in a novel, then in a few more novels, then Galaxies MMORPG and tabletop RPGs and other licensed stuff Then evolved into the standard lightsaber construction trope in fan films and parodies, etc Then finally, after many years, officially canonized in Clone Wars and retconned into Return of the Jedi
I’ve lost count on how many fan films I’ve watched, but this is my favorite. Not so much for its combat or action, but rather its softness and compelling storytelling. Plus the plot is unique in a way that no other film ever has been.
Would you and Anna, ever consider doing another? The scene with the bats took me back to HOURS of playing KTOR. It just felt so authentic, I have to ask.
Joshua Stevens Thanks! Yeah we tried to use things established in the Star Wars universe like mynocks in a new way and context. Goal was always authenticity to SW tone and feeling. Right now we don't have plans for another but we're all working on other really exciting original projects!
Cool! Well congratts on this! Maybe it's better that way. Quality, not Quantity eh? I look forwards to your future projects. This one was amazing. Also, Maybe you can tell me. Anna was doing the Miss 5000 like an actual series at one point I thought. I saw a first episode, but then couldn't find any more. Is there anywhere you know of where I could see the rest? Or was that project cancelled? Thanks again. This really rocked!!! Also, just for conversation, have you seen beatdownboogie 's MARIO WARFARE? It's a live fan film that was funded on kick starter. It's basically every Known francise's hero from the NES & SNES system. Their "Classic" characters (Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, etc). It's all of them versus Bowser and his armies! Everyone has martial arts, and everyone basically has gun fu! Kind of silly, but it was done so right with such a small cast, and most of their funding went straight to flags, costumes and the like. I think you'd enjoy it! ;)
Not only was this a brilliant film... but it was completely in keeping with the mythos of the Star Wars universe. It is amazing how you were able to infuse such characterization into something that was less than seven minutes long. If you had the time and the budget, I could see Hoshino's journey becoming something more akin to a feature length film. I would love to see how she went from loosing her sight to building her own lightsaber. Where is her master? Is this before the rebellion or after? Were those attackers the Knights of Ren? Or some secret guard of Palpatine's? So many questions that could be answered... but until then, I will just say that this was a wicked amazing video and you should be completely and utterly proud of what you have achieved.
Honestly, as someone who's working on my own Star Wars fan film but for the past week has been in a bit of a writing slump, you really got me in the mood to start writing again! This was made seven years ago and I still come back to watch it now and again, just to remind myself that Star Wars does have the potential to be great
Anothis There was no fight, but the story was laid out so beautifully You could almost feel she was a great master by the way she was putting together her light saber ...you know she kicked butt!
@@spartanmediaworks In the absence of an actual Part 2, my personal head-canon has it starting with her pausing behind and facing away from the dark siders (in one of those "I've just done some awesome martial arts" poses)... then she shuts down her saber and walks away as one after another they collapse to the ground, dead.
had to re watch this, now her character is wicked, like other comments wished we got to see more of her story after this, good writing and character development in a short film, Master Ko Hoshino 100
This is why I fear Disney owning Lucasfilm. I fear we will not see fan driven content which is what made Star Wars the force it is. Disney has already started to perform a Order 66 on all the fan driven content and I'm afraid of the day we will not be privileged to something as beautiful as this video. Which in 7 minutes described the heart of a Jedi with more than words. Thank You Stephen Vitale and team for making this.
A lot of people say this as a joke, but I say it literally: In a few minute fan film, you created a character with a more in-depth and complex motivation than the entirety of the sequel trilogy. And I don't just mean one character in the entirety of the trilogy, I mean all of the characters in the trilogy.

eNDMyLifE bOi Ko's master never said the colour of a lightsabre's blade had no meaning; he said that it was not the most important thing about it. That he said the same about its power, which the blade possesses in spades, implies that colour is an important point. It is simply not the *most* important attribute.
I was really digging this too. Though the eager apprentice plotline is sort of a Star Wars cliche that tends to be used a lot in fan films, the writing here was solid and unique enough to really shine through. Excellent cinematography as well, and alongside some great performances this is one of the better fan films I've seen.
Unique writing? You know there's been blind Jedi before and episode four Luke fights a remote with the blast shield down because the force provides a kind of sight, so the fact that she's meant to be blind is about as exciting as a fish with no legs.
Toots Magoot I said "unique ENOUGH." Yeah it's got a lot of clichés, but you're seeing face value here. Welcome to Star Wars. What you are missing is that this is clearly less of a film about the usual Star Wars tropes and more about the theme of respecting the blade. While that may not blow you away, it's actually a topic that's kinda glossed over in other films where they go, "Yo this is a more civilized weapon OH LOOK a situation in which a lightsaber is convenient to whip out and swing around!" Also check out that irony. The main character believes that a lightsaber will "open her eyes" to being a Jedi, but in truth when she accidentally blinds herself she learns to see better than she ever could. I totally get it, it's not all new. But look a little deeper than the cliché moments and you'll find some substance.

Really enjoyed your performance sir. In few short minutes you were able to convey a sense of regal Jedi master presence. Now drop us a few spoilers on the sequel, lol.
I would love to know how much time was spent on writing this, and how many edits and re-writes there were. Because so many fan films, especially Star Wars ones, fall down by focussing too much on visuals, spectacle or action choreography but this film is one of the best out there because the script is TIGHT. There are some truly excellent lines in this that felt 1000% in the Star Wars vein. "This is light, but it has weight" is GOLD such a perfect representation of a literally weightless lightsaber as a super OP and deadly weapon and the consequences of violence, impatience and recklessness. "In a real fight I'd be able to see" is also great foreshadowing and character-building whilst showcasing the philosophical importance of reliance on the Force vs your physical body. Other little bits I enjoy are the use of sticks before using real lightsabers. It reminded me of how in martial arts like Aikido the movements you make with your unarmed body in combat then translate directly into also utilising your boken. If you take the time and patience to master one element of the art, you then realise how important fundamental basics are in "levelling up" to the more "exciting" tools like swords or, well, lightsabers.
damn good cinematography, as well as acting. I liked the Batman Begins vibe w the sword training. There is real talent in the production team as a whole here. Would Love to see a longer, deeper, more complex story from this production team.
Its content like this that prove those in the so-called "official" directors and writer's chair should be replaced. This was so authentic it should be Canon. Loved it!
I love the homage to traditional Japanese martial arts particularly Aikido. Morihei Ueshiba the founder of Aikido believed in the art of peace and somewhat resemblances Yoda. In addition, Japanese film has a long tradition of blind swordsman.

1. Scripting. Brilliant use of a limited dialogue that both told the story, and gave us a deep back story to the characters without the need for exposition. 2. Directing. Every scene heightened and served by the camera. 3. Effects. Professional grade. 4. Acting. Awesome. The actors brought their characters and the dialogue to life. I cannot thank you enough for sharing this. It is an amazing gift.

No big spectacle, no fancy effects, just two people, just words and some simple scenes. Great storytelling, clear character establishment, and growth. A bookending juxtaposition of reversed character roles, really well done.
Bushido hates the police but still needs it
I absolutely adore the teacher in this film, and the line about how the saber is light, but it has 'weight' was awesome
The Fantum yeeaa! The way he was saying those words. Love it. Such teaching.
The Fantum he has such a wisdom. God i want more of this! Film jajaj. And you know what.? She became powerful being blind!;) she had to master it! Blind
Yeaaa! Love the way he spoke! I soo wish! Dialogues and training were like this! And the way he train her!;) was awsome! But she paid the price! But... Now... She can fight the darkness! In a extronary way! She became more powerful as ever!;) thats why i love this scense soo much! God!!... Thums up!
I loved that line too!!
Dialogues. Actors. Story. Camera. Tension.
So impressive! This is what Star Wars should be.
7 minutes way better than 3 whole movies. Just Incredible 🙏👏

THAT LAST PART WAS BEAUTIFUL!! OMG
Just wanted to thank everyone for watching the film and for all your feedback! Everyone that had a hand in making the film is so appreciative and we love that this character and story resonates with so many of you!
We are in the process of creating a descriptive narration version for the visually impaired that we will post as well. If you enjoyed HOSHINO keep sharing it! The more people it finds the bigger and better we can make our next projects!
Again, appreciate the feedback and support! Means so much!

Stephen Vitale Word of Mouth is one of the greatest tools in the industry & you all definitely deserve it... Genuinely captured the essence & feel of the Star Wars lore. Impeccably done.
Stephen Vitale dude u need to make more of this plz I'm begging you..... some serious talent there
Stephen Vitale this film is so amazing
Stephen Vitale nice job on this dude!! it was very well acted and had a great plotline as well!
This was good. The fact that she caused her own disability but instead learned from it and evolved as a person was great.
That's honest.
You pay for too much ambition and impatience. In both star wars and in actuality.
what I liked most about this short film is that the dialogue is not cheesy at all, that's something I dislike about most
SW fan films.
Good job, guys and gals ! :)
Thank you!
A short focused more on story, atmosphere and depth rather than focusing on choreography. A rarity, yet done VERY well. Really like it, and i hope it has a continuation. Hoshino looks like a really interesting character 🔥🔥🔥

Disney clearly takes advantage of the star wars fandom they'll put trash movies cause all the fans will go see it and buy merchandise
Man if we’re all being honest here, if we were padawans, we’d probably be just as impatient as her when it comes to lightsaber training
Patience is learned.
@@sumguy01 And if not carefully, that lesson can be harsh.
she was too old to start her padawan training and got too eager to train with lightsabers
Actually, i would be scared XD
She has the force. If the Jedi did not trained her, the Sith probably will.
Shout out to Anna Akana & Tim Mckernan for their FANTASTIC acting in this fan film!
This is fabulous. So often Jedi-focused fan films seem to be about how awesome Jedi are, it's nice to see one focused on errors and the effort to overcome them.
I came here looking for a better Star Wars sequel. I'm not disappointed.
This is absolutely incredible. Top-tier production quality. It's so cinematic! It makes me want to make my own live-action fan film.
Jacob Kitts OK then watch Star wars aprantice Fan Film
I just need friends who love Star Wars

Confident but not arrogant in her confrontation. The tragedy of her youthful exuberance seems to have made her stronger. As close to a perfect portrayal of what a jedi master should be that could be accomplished in 7 minutes. Amazing and beyond well done, this is what Star Wars should be.
So nice!!!! Thank you!!!
I always get chills at the end. Great job Stephen Vitale with this short film!
"We are the guardians of peace in the galaxy. We defend and protect. We never attack."
Yet if you check every movie it's always the Jedi who ignite their sabers first.
Strong like Yoda, looks like Satele and blind like Kanan. A Jedi of many aspects.
My go-to for the blind Jedi was Rahm Kota.
So I'm at this museum with my cousin Ignacio and he told me "Hey yo, I met this crazy fine Jedi chick at the Mos Eisley cantina the other night. Like fine fine. Like, crazy stupid fine."
It was an exhibition of Picasso, but I am like more into Mondrian because of the strong shapes and basic colors.

If this was a movie and it was in theatres, it would be great. Great acting, effects, cinematics, everything is beautiful.
This was absolutely amazing. I love how instead of focusing on cool-looking lightsaber battles, it actually focuses on making an intriguing and believable story which it achieves very well. Bravo!
One of the best Star Wars fan films out there. Not only is the quality there but the character has more depth and dimension than many other shorts in general. A fine balance between action and heart. Fantastic job!
thanks!
Wow! Practically made me tear up when she lost her vision. Seems like she's reflecting alot on the past and what her master has taught her. Only can assume he's long dead and she's one of the last Jedi being hunted. That was a powerful short film packed with emotion ! Bravo 👏👏
I would think this one is set thousands of years before the 'official' films, before the Sith had the Rule of Two.
@@Daneelro but you could see the tie fighters in the beginning lolll so I'm pretty sure those were some kind of inquisitors or force sensitive soldiers under the empire
Not to be that guy but this was probably during the Old Republic.
The Sith came and genocided the Jedi twice before Revenge of the Sith.
The way she positions the lightsaber at the level of her eyes at the end...wooow.
And the story, the acting, the only thing I can say right now is WOW! I love this!
And in 7 min you have created a female jedi with a better character and story arc than Rey.... bravo!
This is why I hate when ppl call us FAN boys because we want this. It's pretty confusing because a fan boy to me is one that doesn't Kno the true lore of Starwars

Joshua Hawley yes!!!!! Disney sucks
Finally they show someone building a lightsaber
the old way using the force
A method first created and first seen in the KOTOR games
Then described in a novel, then in a few more novels, then Galaxies MMORPG and tabletop RPGs and other licensed stuff
Then evolved into the standard lightsaber construction trope in fan films and parodies, etc
Then finally, after many years, officially canonized in Clone Wars and retconned into Return of the Jedi
There is a clone wars episode of it where Ashoka teaches the younglings
@@hanzalazafar3982 I think there was one with the Yoda too

Seriously.....the ending......first time a fan film for ANYTHING gave me the chills. Amazing job.
I’ve lost count on how many fan films I’ve watched, but this is my favorite. Not so much for its combat or action, but rather its softness and compelling storytelling. Plus the plot is unique in a way that no other film ever has been.
The first time I saw this, I literally started crying in the final moments there. It was just so beautiful. Well done, truly!
Wow, thank you! Wonderful to hear!
I think you'd enjoy it! ;)

And wow -- glad you had such an emotional reaction. Means a lot. Great to hear.
Wow, thanks!
could be from the days of the Sith Empire and Old Republic
Honestly, as someone who's working on my own Star Wars fan film but for the past week has been in a bit of a writing slump, you really got me in the mood to start writing again! This was honest to god AMAZING and deserves more views! I loved how you put across the ideals of the Jedi with the force and light sabers the way the OT described it. The acting writing, cinematography and special effects were phenomenal! You sir earned yourself a subscriber! Keep up the good work!
+Stephen Vitale Thank you so much! I really appreciate that!
that first 3 minutes was great:-)
This was made seven years ago and I still come back to watch it now and again, just to remind myself that Star Wars does have the potential to be great
I love that SaberForge sabers are prop-worthy. I dig the weathering and wrap color choice for the Reliant hilt.
They really are very cool! And great options for customization!
There was no fight... And yet this was more satisfying than most fan made Star Wars videos. I might be biased though since I'm a fan of Anna.

Walter Hummel Thank you so much for watching!
Walter Hummel Also on Star Wars stories that were once canon!😔
That last moment where she ignited her saber for the first time, it gave me a chill down my spine, this is so awesome!
A lot of people say this as a joke, but I say it literally: In a few minute fan film, you created a character with a more in-depth and complex motivation than the entirety of the sequel trilogy. And I don't just mean one character in the entirety of the trilogy, I mean all of the characters in the trilogy.
Um no. Some characters has some arc in the sequel. This character had a good amount, but we literally only saw seven minutes. Dont exaggerate buddy

Amazing!
Why can't this be canon?!
That was really good.
Because it clearly follows Legends continuity, with all those random Sith acolytes and her master saying the color has no spiritual meaning.
eNDMyLifE bOi Ko's master never said the colour of a lightsabre's blade had no meaning; he said that it was not the most important thing about it. That he said the same about its power, which the blade possesses in spades, implies that colour is an important point. It is simply not the *most* important attribute.
eNDMyLifE bOi technically, he said that the color isn't the most important part
Because a Jedi that young ripping through a Sith warrior's force wall that easily isn't realistic.
Master Vampire At that point she was already a master
"This is light... but it has weight."
Arguably the most chilling and philosophical line in all of Star Wars, and it was in a fan film...
I'm usually really super cynical and nit picky about starwars fan films.
I loved this.
Same, but this actually felt like starwars!

When Fan films are actually beautiful and more interesting than what we have now.. I'm looking at you New Trilogy.
Star Wars should make Hoshino an actual character, she is amazing
HE PROTECC, BUT HE NEVER ATTACC

Its content like this that prove those in the so-called "official" directors and writer's chair should be replaced. This was so authentic it should be Canon. Loved it!
Hoshino: A Star Wars Story. If only.
I love the homage to traditional Japanese martial arts particularly Aikido. Morihei Ueshiba the founder of Aikido believed in the art of peace and somewhat resemblances Yoda. In addition, Japanese film has a long tradition of blind swordsman.
Thank you! I love Japanese film - so glad it came through and worked for you!

Oh man, thanks a million! Glad you dug it.

Ko is so interesting to me. I'd love to know how she handled being blind, and how her master and herself parted ways. I think it was be heartfelt and yet possibly heart wrenching.
Zatoichi, Jedi style.
I think one of it's strengths is that the film doesn't explain much at all. I love how it's left to the imagination.
force sensitives(of any or no code) can feel everything, similar to daredevils sonar but instead of sound echo its more like force auras, or something matrix like(end of the 1st movie, but force instead of code... unless the force is code, hmmm?), seeing lightsaber blades should be easy as its made from kyber crystals which are force attuned(infused?)
It's the same thing with The Force Awakens. It's lazy writing. They can just explain nothing and let the audience fill in the blanks.
InfamousComments except this film is intentionally simple. In this case, it's clearly not lazy. It's just a 10 minute short film
