Why make a Star Wars fan film?
If you had asked me when I was seven years old, what film I would make if I ever got the skill, I would have said: "Star Wars" - Normally Star Wars film are made by a thousand people for a lot of money. This one is made by a few for almost nothing.
We made this film because we love Star Wars and the art of filmmaking. It's a tribute to the old school cinematic style and an experiment to see if we could make a twenty-minute live-action Star Wars story and still retain that wonderful Star Wars feeling.
A lot of time, love and energy went into making this film, and it was an absolute blast. Hope you enjoy it! May the force be with you, always! - Jesper Tønnes

I'm 58. I was disappointed with the prequels largely because they seemed incoherent, the first two movies appearing to veer far from the original lore, then the third trying to patch everything up, and the acting and dialogue overall subpar and cringy. But that was nothing compared to the Disney movies, which are just short of abysmal, so much so I stopped watching any of it after Solo. Frankly parts of the EU (Heir to the Empire trilogy, etc) and fan fic both satire and serious are the only things which have kept my interest and imagination: The Last Padawan, Darth Maul: Apprentice, Troops, For the Empire, Scene 38 Reimagined, etc, even really weird ones like Dark Resurrection.

That was a very well written short. The ending was not entirely predictable and it was a wholly pleasant surprise when he cut his Padawan braid and left it on the corpse of the inquisitor sent to kill him. He over and his last enemy, his fear, and overcame the evil sent to dispatch him. The symbolism is powerful and yet simple. Of the many fan films I've viewed, I believe this is one of the best I've seen to date.

If you thought that fight was cartoony, you need to watch the commentary on the Blu-ray. McGregor and Christensen were fighting at full speed. It isn't sped up and no stuntmen. The only CG in that fight was the parts where they were jumping and the obvious spots like when Vader gets burnt up. Now, the Yoda fight in Attack of the Clones is a different story.

I really loved this for a bunch of reasons, the classic scene wipes and music really gave it the feel of the original movies. The fact that a Jedi can be scary to non-jedi not just a vaguely benevolent swordsman. The Inquisitor was awesome and clearly a more confident duelist which makes sense given the padawan lost his master. The very last scene 👌 The passion star wars fans put into their projects is just amazing. Keep up the awesome work!

Especially since the only remaining parts from his original (read, - biological) body are his eyes and his heart. Hence, why he has such a nasty and persistent cough. (At least he went down fighting against General Kenobi - one of his biggest/longest standing rivals. ....... Though ironically, .... he was killed by "heartburn" in their last fight.) Well done.
Not everyone can appreciate what goes into a short film like this - I can see this was a lot of hard work and skill - and it comes off as exciting, interesting, engaging and well paced.
I genuinely enjoyed the casting/acting. The editing, though a bit bumpy at the start, paced into a smooth narrative - easy to loose oneself in the story.
Treatment is great to - and the effects were powerful yet well integrated.
Thank you for making a great film, and a worthy contribution to the indie film and fan communities!

I enjoy Star Wars fan films, but generally I know that they can be pretty trashy. They almost always revolve around a fight, or some figure we know. Or just doom for a runaway jedi. They generally lack characterization, pacing, and all happen very quickly, regardless of the run time of the film. This is the first I've seen that felt about a journey, lasting over days. While your padawan character did feel a tad lifeless, just because he didn't talk much, the imperial agents were all given the time to flesh out some basic personality. Your cuts were great, your music, sound fx, lightsaber fx were all on point. However you did the imperial ships was incredible. Even your opening crawl felt very star wars. No colorful language and most importantly, no assumption of previous viewing. You just laid out of the facts of the story. Would absolutely love to see more from you, especially if you take the time to make these films about characters and their personal struggles. Incredible job.

Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it! We really tried to make it feel as much as Star Wars as possible.

three things I absolutely love this film. Number 1 is the music, amazing, creates a star wars feel. 2, the lightsaber fight is surprisingly well choreographed for a fan film, it was tight, and the saber fighting actually looked like real sword fighting. 3, the inquisitor is the best actor, still needs more work, but when I saw and heard him, he created the feel of an imperial. He had the correct amount of smug and arrogance and had the correct body language. One thing I disliked is the one imperial the jedi let go. It felt like he over acted at certain times and need to show a bit more facial expressions. Other than him everyone else did a decent job.

Awesome job. Better than about 90% of what's coming out of Hollywood. Great tension build up. Nice camera angles during the confrontation. Compelling musical score. Loved it!
