If you want something else in the same style of pure comedy, I suggest you the Naked gun trilogy. Closer to a of police investigation story, but same kind of lame & stupid jokes. Have a nice day.

Thanks! I will add all of these to the future watchlist!! I haven't seen any of them (with the exception of some of the main scenes of Airplane, but I have not seen it all the way through from beginning to end).
“Is it safe” dentist scene is a reference to an old Dustin Hoffman movie The Marathon Man. In it he is tortured by a criminal dentist and asked “is it safe ?” because it’s s code word phrase that he doesn’t know the answer to, as it’s mistaken identity, but he becomes part of the mystery/thriller. The scene is actually incredibly stressful because he has no idea how to answer correctly and each time causes the dentist to hurt him more.
I love this reaction. I rewatch from time to time. Can’t believe I didn’t or nobody else told you the “love-making” scene with the food is a parody of 9.5 Weeks with Mickey Rourke and Kim Bassinger.

Between this an Hot Shots Part Deux, my grown kids and I would quote this all the time!!, Would drive my wife crazy with it, lol. Luv your reactions and I hope to see the channel continue to grow!
The Native American plains scene near the beginning was because Dances with Wolves had just come out the year before. As for the NA "dialog", most of it is some combination of names of Minnesota and Wisconsin lakes, rivers and cities: Owatonna, Minnetonka, Ojibwa, Nokomis, Shakopee, Itasca, Minocqua, Minnehaha, Mahtomedi. Then it slides into silliness with diphthong and rickshaw. Then we come back to the first category with Mendota, Winnebago(which is a town in Minnesota as well as the very recognizable RV brand), and Orono. Then we finish out with the Jackson siblings: La Toya, Tito, Jermaine. It shouldn't be a big surprise that director/writer Jim Abrahams was born and raised in Wisconsin, and the other lead writer(Pat Proft) was born and raised in Minnesota. ;)
Hot Shots Part Deux is also very good. Largely spoofs Vietnam War movies and Rambo 2. If you enjoy Spaceballs, you'll love any of Mel Brooks' other works I imagine. Robin Hood: Men In Tights (with Cary Elwes), Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles (both with Gene Wilder) are all hilarious.
Wow thanks!! So glad you could join me for all the laughs. It truly is the best medicine. I would love to watch the sequel -- I think I have to watch another movie first (Rambo, maybe?) before I do though.
If you enjoyed this, can I suggest you check out Rain Man at some point? It is with a young Tom Cruise and an absolutely brilliant Dustin Hoffman who won best actor. I thought of it because the girl in this plays Tom Cruise's girlfriend in Rain Man.
I was just discussing this movie recently on the channel. I have seen a few scenes from Rain Man but not enough to say I've seen the movie. So, it may show up sometimes soon!
"Nice place." "It's okay. The only problem is I have a nosy landlady. Well, I guess this is goodnight." "I don't want to go back." "You don't have to. I don't want to be alone. And by the way... I can go all night, like a lumberjack!" "What about your landlady?" "You can do her too." Oh yeah, she's a keeper. 😍 Fun Fact: Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer would later star together in Two And A Half Men (2003). Airplane Enthusiast Fact: The planes used were Folland Fo-145 Gnats, a British fighter/trainer used by the RAF's Red Arrows aerobatics team until 1979. Ned Nederlander Award Fact: Valeria Golino claims the scene in which she catches an olive popped out of her bellybutton was accomplished without trick photography. Location Location Fact: The aircraft carrier on which the movie takes place is actually a wooden deck built on the edge of a cliff the deserted Marineland facility located on the Palos Verdes Peninsula coast in Los Angeles County, California (closed and abandoned in 1987). The film was shot at an angle that made the deck look like a ship at sea.
okchristina ... Maybe. I want to stress that I am only reporting what SHE claims. Whether Valerie is lying or not, I leave it to you to decide. You're welcome. 😁 Go in Peace and Walk with God. 😎 👍
Thank you. The musical number around the piano in the red dress is taken from "The Fabulous Baker Boys" (1989) well worth a watch for the performances and the often unexpected musical talent. Trivia: Rather than being from Top Gun itself I think the food scene is taken from "9½ Weeks" (1986). More Trivia: The dental scene at the end is a reference to the "Marathon Man" (1976) a movie with an incredible cast.
I'll have to look into all of those movies! I think me not knowing that handful of reference and still enjoying this movie says a lot for the humor in it!

This is a fun movie. And Part Deux is just as good. Looking forward to seeing your thoughts on this type of humor.
Not sure what my thoughts on this humor might be exactly other than if it makes me laugh then I love it!! :)
I love the fact that comedy spoof films by Jim Abrahams, David Zucker and/or Jerry Zucker contain jokes even in the closing credits! 🤣
Loyd Bridges is the real star here😂😂
True!
Part Deux is arguably even funnier.
Great spoof movies.
Inarguably.

But… but… didn’t you just argue with me?
😝
@@sean---the-other-one No. I just helped your typo.
@@tempsitch5632 arguably.

This could almost be a scene in this movie lolol ;)
Your reaction was just hilarious :D Hope you're gonna react to to part deux and also airplane.

One of my comfort movies 😁. Admiral Benson is the best 😂
Just the opening scene is enough to make any day better!
21:49 "It's a bo[o]gey" Really? LOL
I know -- almost too obvious!!
If you watch ALL the hood classics there is also “don’t be a meanace while drinking your juice in the hood”
Hello there
Hey :)
Haha, yes, the opening (rest of the movie also very funny, of course) sets the tone perfectly 😄
I love that type of humor and it was set on rapid fire!!
Fun movie. A good palate cleanser after the Halloween season.
Indeed, though I admittedly had fun with a lot of the horror fest of October -- there's more comedy in horror than I realized!

I think she is correct -- I think it was a trick torso!!
Thanks again for all the fun facts!!!!

_Hot Shots!_ is one of a selection of films in which you could watch it again and catch a joke you missed on previous viewings.
Thank you.
