    Storyline
A parody of Top Gun (1986) in which a talented but unstable fighter pilot must overcome the ghosts of his father and save a mission sabotaged by greedy weapons manufacturers.
Topper Harley, a top gun fighter pilot, is recalled to serve on the SS Essess. Topper's mission is to destroy Saddam Hussein's nuclear plants. Unfortunately, Topper is psychologically imbalanced and is sure to crack under pressure.

Lloyd Bridges is definitely the Hot Shots MVP! In Airplane he apparently struggled somewhat with how to play the comedy, but by Hot Shots he's clearly embraced the madness! As other commenters have said, Hot Shots Part Deux is a worthy sequel to this, and of course Naked Gun should be watched too. There are few better ways to cheer oneself up by watching these kinds of films 😊

I've heard a lot of comparisons to 'Airplane!' with this movie, but while that film dealt in a lot of absurdist humor, Hot Shots dabbles into the straight up surreal with scenes like with the lounge number where she's walking up the piano lid. That is the type of stuff that legitimately takes you off guard. Amazing film.

"Guess I picked the wrong day to quit sniffing glue" still murders me.

Like The Godfather, Alien, Toy Story, the sequel to this film is arguably possibly even better. If nothing else just for the presence of Rowan Atkinson. It does suffer a little from a few too many lazy parodies of classic films, but at least they are _classic_ films they are referencing and not whatever mediocre films were in the cinemas the previous 18 months.
So if you are going to watch the sequel then there is a big list of movies that you should have seen first to get the most out of it. At the very least you should watch Rambo before going into part deux.

Bro I quote this fucking movie almost daily at work and no one ever fucking gets it. It's stupid shit like I'll say I don't have a clue what you're talking about Phil not a fucking clue. Or every single day when I trip in front of the stage on an uneven piece of floor I say who put that crab there? There's two of them they work in pairs. Or I'll say thank you Andre I'll have the veal piccata when I'm drunk and just no one ever gets it. And I don't expect them to but God damn it I fucking love this movie. Plus they're all like 22-year-old strippers and I'm fucking 33 so of course they don't know it. But damn it the peril that they put me in.... Still quite perilous.

God damn it if you ever come to the fucking states, can you come to florida, and you come to tampa, you shall enter the strip club for free.
