Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson were in that same church for Wedding Crashers (2005). Casting Notes Fact: Veteran character actor Joseph Patrick Cranshaw unexpectedly attained pop culture status playing Joseph "Blue" Palasky in Old School (2003). He was well into his 80s when he was cast in the small part that gave him the kind of public recognition rarely afforded a character actor. Sadly, before Joseph could really capitalize on his new found fame, he passed away in December 2005 due to natural causes. Action Star Fact: Frank's streaking scene was shot on a city street. As Will Ferrell remembered it, one of the storefronts was a twenty-four-hour gym with Stairmasters and treadmills in the window: "I was rehearsing in a robe, and all these people are in the gym, watching me. I asked one of the production assistants, 'Shouldn't we tell them I'm going to be naked?' Sure enough, I dropped my robe and there were shrieks of pure horror. After the first take, nobody was at the window anymore. I took that as a sign of approval."
RIP Blue! I'll have to watch for the church in Wedding Crashers (coming soon). A Will Ferrell movie just isn't a Will Ferrell movie without his bare butt and his beeeeutiful singing voice. I still think it must be in his contract. ;) Thanks for the fun comments!
This movie was inspired by another movie called PCU, where Jeremy Piven (the dean) plays a 30-year-old college student trying to stay in school so he can keep his frat house (and, of course, so he can keep partying with college kids without it being any weirder than it already is). It's been done before, of course, but PCU is the one I grew up with, and I love that they got Jeremy Piven to come back and play the bad guy.
This was directed by Todd Phillips, who also directed The Hangover, which if you haven't seen is hilarious (in a very un-PC unapologetic way). It also has an outstanding performance from Zach Galifinakis. Glad to see a reaction from you this week.
