- John Davidson was the biggest TV heartthrob of the 1970's with his dimples and perfectly coiffed hair. He appeared on many classic shows, such as “The Carol Burnett Show” and “The Love Boat. He even filled in for Johnny Carson on “The Tonight Show” 87 times. Now, the 80-year-old lives on his boat eight months of the year off the coast of Mexico. When he's not on his boat, Davidson performs three nights a week at his nightclub called "Club Sandwich" during the summer.

When I was a kid in the 70s my mom was in love with this guy.
My father worked for an air freight company in the 1970s and he made deliveries to him and other celebrities. My dad said John Davidson was a nice guy. I remember John Davidson and I have met my share of celebrities and its no big deal when you live near La La Land.

Remember that a lot of times when celebrities "disappear" it's because they want to. The limelight is too stressful or doesn't satisfy them anymore so they scale down their lives and stick to performing in cozy, intimate venues. Like anyone else they've entered a new chapter of their lives that while different, is just as happy and fulfilling for them as when they were in the spotlight.
True and fans need to consider after years it's annoying to be approached by strangers
Or they simply want to focus on other priorities (I.E: Family, health reasons or they got a job outside of the spotlight.)

My parents, brother, and I have been fans of John's since we first saw him on The Kraft Summer Music Hall. We have met John many times and traveled to State Fairs to see him (Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, etc); to Missouri and Texas to see him in plays; my parents and I saw him perform at the Empire Room (Palmer House in Chicago, IL) where he got us front row seats and paid for our meal; records he autographed for us; loved his movies (The Happiest Millionaire & The One & Only Genuine Original Family Band); for my birthday I had received an autographed picture along with a personal handwritten birthday message; and my mom and his mom would correspond back and forth. Loved him and his music then and still do! I have his music on my RUclips playlist so that I can continue listening to him. I'm 72 years old and so glad to see him again, and still looking good at 80 yes old! Fantastic John!!

Yea most people who get to his level of fame either never mentally get out of it or become bitter til its too late, I'm happy he has a happy life and can keep smiling while making people happy.

I rediscovered him just a few months ago after remincing the days where me and my great-grandparents watch Hollywood Squares back in the 80s. I didn't know that he sings until a few months ago. He has such a great voice and he looks fantastic! That's Incredible can run laps around the Kardashians. Also, he has one of the best looking hair.
He started out as a singer.
I can't speak for the rest of the public but when I was growing up you were everywhere on television so I certainly didn't forget about you glad you're still doing well keep on singing & entertaining!

A life lived well indeed. I am 60+ and I remember John being everywhere all the time. What I like was he understands how life works. You can live it on many different phases It's not about being famous or liked. You just need your health and the will to get through. And a clear understanding that you were blessed to be able to do it.
How in the world could they forget to mention " That's Incredible" ? That show was the bomb when I was a kid. J.D. is awesome! I love this story.

Just watching some old Tonight Show reruns, and John Davidson shows up! I used to have a big crush on him back in the day. So happy to see him living a peaceful and fun life.
I would guess him to be much younger! Seems like a really nice guy. I’m going to check out his music now. I was born in the 90s but my mom probably knows who he is.

John Davidson survived the Beverly Hills Supper Club Fire in 1977.
He hosted the Hollywood Squares from 1986 through 1989.
His television hair is only rivaled by Jack Lord, John Stamos, and maybe a few others in history.
I’m reading a book called Trial By Fire which is about the Station nightclub fire, and it mentioned John Davidson and the fire that you just talked about. Which prompted me to wonder what happened to him. He was all over TV in the 80s. He still looks great. I had no idea about that fire until now I’m glad it got out but so many people perished.

He will be 81 next month. He seems strong and of sound mind. I met him twice in Branson where he had his theater for about five or six years. Really enjoyed his shows.

remember when he played a the beverly hills supper club in 1977.The building caught fire leaving over 100 people to parish.He was able to escape the fire but one of his band members did not survive. I was there a few months before.

On one hand, it’s nice to see John living his life and outside of fame and he looks GREAT for his 80’s. But on the other hand, I don’t like how this was reported. A famous person like him who had a good amount of fame for some time decides to take some time off and now people refer to that person as “forgotten” and “irrelevant.” It’s insane how in order to stay “relevant” in the public eye (or whatever that means anymore), you have to be in front of a camera broadcasting or live streaming all the time. Anyways, I’m glad that John is still living his best life. I recognize him as a tv show host in Edward Scissorhands 🤣👍
