#CassElliot
I love seeing Cass being treated nicely and respectfully, instead of on a variety comedy show where she is made to be the center of every day joke. Her voice was amazing and she was lovely singing with John.
I feel the same way. I hope Carol Burnett and Red Skelton and all the others realize how messed up (and not funny) that was.
Cass was amazing and we all have lost out because of how much she was shortchanged and dehumanized. She did, too.
Beautiful harmony from her, as usual! She is delightful.
I agree. An amazing talent. We know she was a big girl( If I have offended anyone by saying that....get stuffed) ,love Cass Elliot
This is delightful
This clip and her appearance on Laugh-In circa S6 (Michael Landon was the guest star)
Mama Cass is the best ever!!
seeing how good John Davidson treated Cass makes me happy. He's one of the best looking guys of this the 70s, and he treated her so much more respectfully than others. John Denver also seemed to be very fond of Cass for her amazing voice. She had to be one of the wittiest ladies of her time also.
John has the best dimples.
My first celebrity crush at age 12. ❤️
She was the real deal. Just utter talent. I don't think there was anything Cass couldn't do. She was a phenomenal performer and is greatly missed.
Sammy Davis Jr really treated her really well too I really love the song that she sang and he introduced her!
I know in the 70s we could smoke everywhere even in a doctor's office and it was true in the '80s to
@@jewellmatthews3962 that video cracked me up. not just smoking on stage during a performance ... but dropping the butt on the floor and squishing it with a shoe which was completely ordinary at the time. But ON STAGE lmfao.
Her ability to harmonized with anyone is stunning!
Agreed. If you're a harmony junkie, check out the Barry Sisters.
You've hit the Nail on the Head.
I'm sure they rehearsed
It true.
Great rendition, never saw this !
In my humble and unpopular opinion…she was a beautiful woman!
Oh most definitely...not in the media-pushed ideal...but man, what a way she had about her and you just can't stop looking at her. Gorgeous.
She absolutely was.
Yes she was, inside and out❤
She really was ❤
@@Kimi_V_K Inside and out, yes!
Its a shame both Cass Elliot and Karen Carpenter died so young. They both had incredible voices. Pure talent that was unrivalled in their eras.
couldn’t agree more
Cass was one of the greatest - If only she lived to sing a James Bond song. Is that too much to ask for? Shirley Bassey (Goldfinger) is 4 years older now than Cass would have been, and she's still going strong - as good as ever in fact.
I said this same thing talking to my husband just yesterday. Both died at 32. Love them both so much 😪❤
Haven't heard this is years. So fun listening to these great old songs. Such talent ❤
You’ve gotten that right!
They were both fantastic!
Her weight was made fun of, even in a song, but Cass Elliot was more talented than anyone who sang with her. Much respect to John Davidson here, but the Mamas & the Papas would never have made it without her. They owe her.
I make fun of my weight every single day 🥱
She had a great voice
She not that great of a singer.
@@lovewillwinnnAnd Your grammar is awful
If you're talking about Creeque Alley, you don't know the whole story.
The line about her. "getting fat" was not just about weight; it was mostly referring to the fact that before the group formed and got famous, Cass was the only one actually beginning a career and "getting fat" from the money she was making in music.
Cass was the one who approved the line in the song.
Live and no auto tune. The days of true talent.
Simon laughed so hard when the guest said that about auto tune
I freaking hate auto tune and "pitch correction".
Mucha verdad
oh shush
Actually, a lot of live tv performances during this time were lip synced, because the equipment required to broadcast a live music performance was expensive and complicated. There is actually a clip of the Mamas and Papas performing on the Ed Sullivan show, where Michelle was eating and talking to John during the performance in protest of the producers making them lip sync! Meanwhile, Mama Cass was singing so powerfully that the audience can hear her vocals over the prerecorded track. I am not at all doubting the pure talent of these artists, just a fun fact!
I love that Davidson was so respectful with her.
But let's not just gloss over that Cass is singing the harmony
**perfectly**, even with Davidson singing the melody line **directly in her ear** !!!!! She was phenomenal!!!!
Hey there! I came across your comment and I just had to reach out and say hi. Your perspective really caught my attention and I would love to get to know you better. Would you be interested in chatting sometime? Looking forward to hearing back from you!
I suspect he preferred being a solo act. He seems to think Cass is his back up singer.
Why do we not have entertainment like this anymore?
Because a certain kind of innocence has been lost. Love is waxing cold also. Maybe they are both one in the same. Either way, there is no going back now until the next eon/age.
Great question!
Two words: Reality Shows 👎👎
All she wanted to do was sing, & with someone after her own heart, with a heart, what a gift they gave to this world.
Hello Christine, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the COVID-19 virus??
thank you John for treating Cass with such great respect. a true humanitarian. your gentleness and love shone through. take notes folks this is kindness and acceptance of everyone
Absolutely!!! I was thinking the same. When people wholly accept and love themselves they can treat others with the utmost beauty and respect.
Why wouldn’t he treat her with respect ?
He had such a wonderful way of treating people.
@@annereynolds66 because she fat
So well said. Thank you.
DAVIDSON'S got a real darn good voice himself. GREAT HARMONIZING AND CHEMISTRY BETWEEN THEM AS WELL.
Charles T. Velten - Absolutely! It was moving!
I just loved this! ❤️
Agreed. These two made a great little duet. Both had such a gift.
Absolutely. He should have been a bigger star.
This should have been released as a duet. Would have been a big hit for both John and Cass!!
You're a day late and a dollar short ... it had already been a big hit by the Sinatras which they allude to in their patter before they start singing
Yes it was a hit with the Sinatras but at least Cass and John weren't related.
@@dianafrost936 they could've done an albumful of duets!
@@dianafrost936 and they sang it much better in my opinion.
Her voice was liquid velvet and such an amazing gift. I highly doubt the Manas & The Papas would have achieved their success without Cass's vocals - she elevated a mediocre soprano and male vocals, creating a unique and instantly recognizable sound 💕💕💕💕💕
She was the best singer of the Mommas and Popas.
Well, you need to listen to that one again because she was off key several places that just really wasn’t her song
Denny was probably the strongest singer in the group-an amazing voice
@@muffassa6739Yes she was the one who was the most talented performer.
Absolutely… and they acted as if they did her the favour by having her in the group
What a treat! I forgot about John Davidson, he was everywhere in the 70's. So good looking and a great singer too. He and Cass sound so good together
I just found this video a few weeks ago. I really enjoyed it.
Omg he looks so much like Bobby Sherman!
I love when the algorithm surprises me with these sweet little nothings
I love her, and John Davidson is a class act. They were so sweet together.
Hey there! I came across your comment and I just had to reach out and say hi. Your perspective really caught my attention and I would love to get to know you better. Would you be interested in chatting sometime? Looking forward to hearing back from you!
Such a sweet song for two amazing people. She left us too early.
One of the best voices of the 20th century lost to us too soon. And I forgot how cute John Davidson was.
This is sweet. Cass is pure joy when she sings.
Oh shes so beautiful, inside and out. I love you Cass, ever since my parents played your album when I was a little girl. You hold a special place in my heart.
Same
I loved Cass my brother got a vip pass to see her in person he was over the moon in love with her she was his obsession he would play her music all the time...I was only 11 at the time he told my mom she was such a groooovy lady...funny thinking how smitten he was..I could understand his over the hill in love with her..
You're so right. I love Cass. She's a phenomenal talent and by all accounts was a wonderful, intelligent and articulate person.
That’s so beautifully said ❤️
Me too💜💜
“anyway I love her a lot”, thinking about how lovely it is that owen has this footage of her mother declaring her love for her and that she can come and watch it back whenever she wishes🥺
Yes. That's something I'd listen to over and over. I lost my father the same year Cass died, and I was seven, like Owen. If I had a recording of my father saying this, I'd never stop listening to it.
Just when you think you couldn't love this song any more, she sings it❤...rip mama
She had an INCREDIBLE voice, and was so genuine, across the board.
Cass was so awesome, she deserved all the best. How wonderful her daughter can see her mum, see she loved her. She was more beautiful than anyone gave her credit, even herself. She was so awesome, I still love listening to her. Rip
And who couldn't love Cass?!
John Doherty...
Since he's so into Michelle Philips...
Wow she is very attractive here, in her looks and in her demeanor. I was feelin it.
She had a style and beauty all her own..
Yes, lovely, confident and sexy.
Yes, and shame to the men (and women) who put her down, and still do, because of her weight. Shame shame shame on you , you superficial jerks.
She is lovely.
They sound wonderful together! She needed more of this in her short life. I look at photos and she wasn't a huge lady, she had curves and was built differently. With today's talent in all shapes and sizes, she would be more embraced.
The two of them harmomized so well together
Well, the harmony was Mama Cass. I would expect no less. They were both definitely superb though. I always liked John Davidson's voice.
Cass’ s harmonies are superb. What a great musician she was. Love her.
John Davidson was a gentleman in every sense of the word in the way he treated mama Cass with respect
Cass Elliot -- You dear sweet beautiful soul who left us too soon, your voice was angelic!
John Davidson -- I forgot how mellow your voice was, and quite a heart-throb too!
Time to rewatch his Disney movies with Lesley Ann Warren
Cass Elliott was a great singer. She looked awesome here .
You can see around 2:33 John kind if wiggles his lips at her. Adorable! This video is so sweet. They both look like they're enjoying each other. In a clean way!
Yes, saw that. Wow.
It's so cute
These were real singers!! Beautiful!!!
Cass was such a great singer. Gone to soon. RIP forever Cass. She was one of a kind.
Look how beautiful Mama Cass is, talking about her daughter! Her singing with handsome John Davidson is just amazing! Mama Cass, is one Class Act! John's dimples are everything! I loved them both singing this iconic song! R.I.P. Mama Cass and John Davidson! 🎶💕🎶 🙏
Cecilie Noble Jonh Davidson is still alive and well.
You got to make your Own kind of music. Sing your Own special song even if no one else sings along...
John Davidson is still alive. He is 79 yrs old!
@@mrellen5 80 now!
Cass looked beautiful here and he treated her so sweetly, she deserved it. She had an amazing voice!
I come from a large family of large women. Mama Cass and the band's music played all summer. Was very sorry she died too soon. I was only 7 or 8.
Seeing Cass In HD is just..... wow....... I need more of this!!!!
I agree, she looks and sounds great (no surprise there) in this! What a beautiful face and voice. I love all the updated stuff we're seeing now as they're turning all of it into HD. Its awesome too see and looks like it was filmed today.
These two are, hands down, better than Frank and Nancy! Love it! Thanks for posting!
And way less creepy than Father/Daughter or Sibling duet.
Frank Sinatra had a lovely voice. One of the best. Johns voice is excellent and Cass is fabulous. Cass was gone too soon. Sad. A great loss. Nancy Sinstra sounded lovely.
@@bobdepaola7828 John has an interesting incredible voice.
@@m.e.d.7997 I remember Nancy S. Saying she didn't like that it was in Frank's key and she was not featured well!
I agree totally
John Davidson was just the cutest thing around...what a lovely number they did together.
Mama had a voice that makes my hair stand up
She died when I was a child
Everyone who worked with her loved her
So many beautiful spirits died young
💚😞
Do you know how hard it is to be the one that sings the harmony! Perfect really!
Hello Lisa, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the COVID-19 virus??
John and Mama cass sang beautifully together and he was so sweet to her. She look stunning in this outfit and very happy
Hello Sandra, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the COVID-19 virus??
I always loved him. He treats Cass with class and I love him for it.
I wasn’t familiar with him prior, but I adore this video (turns out I’ve come across some of his theatre work in my theatre history studies, ironically haha) so I looked him up- a truly humble and inspiring individual!
Whoa! Singing with John Davidson must have been a wonderful memory. They were so cute together.😉💕
I was just thinking how beautiful and precious it must be for her daughter to have all these recordings of her Mama. Wishing the very best for her daughters book release this week 🌟✨
She holds those notes right in place with that perfect vibrato.
i completely melt for Cass Elliot! Those eyes mmmm she is soooo beautiful that i even got a mama cass tattoo 😍
Hello Anita, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the COVID-19 virus??
They sing beautifully, each taking delight in the 'sweet spot' harmonies, the moments of playfulness and spontaneity, and warmth. I dont hear contemporary singers trying to connect that way very often.
This was so steamy! Lowkey. I love Cass so much, and John is too romantic and adorable with her. I wish they would’ve been something.
She had lost significant weight around this time but sadly few people noticed. No matter. She was witty and talented and funny as all hell.
What's sad is that all her crash dieting were part of the reasons she died of a heart attack.
I can definitely tell she had lost a significant amount of weight I have never seen her like that before
She’s actually quite beautiful. Had she been able to permanently slim down in a healthy way there’s no telling how big her career would have been. She clearly had major star power and was uniquely talented
@@billgeezeriommi Yes she looks noticably different here, clearly much thinner. I think it is also partly due to the way she has her hair tied back which I haven't seen in any of her other appearances.
@@stefanrichard4986 Like Karen Carpenter. Starving your body over and over can actually damage your organs such as with Karen. Karen was actually recovering at the time that she passed but her heart was too damaged unfortunately.
Mr. Davidson, you are a class act!
Beautiful, clear lyrics and two great singers - no voice altering gizmos….an everlasting melody
I love this song, and love hearing these two singing it together! Just beautiful!
Hello Marilyn, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the COVID-19 virus??
I did a show with John back in the 80’s. He was a very nice guy. Quite talented.
Thats incredible 😊

Holy smoke, I had such a crush on John Davidson back when I was 20! This is wonderful, seeing Cass and John singing together!
Hi Kathy
If she was still alive she could have been as big as Streisand
Gladly, she is as bigger as Streisand
@john wallace fuck off
@FREEDOM LIGHTRIDER why in the world would you seek out a video of Cass Elliot just to berate a commenter and accuse them of oversentimentality for thinking Cass deserved more fame? No one "sympathizes" for Cass's weight because she wasn't ashamed of it, the only sympathy is from how she was treated for it.
Least Cass wouldn't have unleashed Jon Peters unto Hollywood
@FREEDOM LIGHTRIDER Yes because she was better than Streisand.
Cass Elliot is truly a beautiful woman on the inside and outside, truly a one of a kind woman.
They have GREAT chemistry
John Davidson looks so hot here, and they seem to be really enjoying this. Cass is great as always. Is the full episode available somewhere? What a treasure, and thanks for posting.
This is so adorable, never knew JD was such a good singer. Mama Cass was exceptional.
@Jenny Romeo, you should watch a movie called The Happiest Millionaire. It's a musical, based on a real family and starring Fred McMurray, Greer Garson, Tommy Steele, Leslie Ann Warren, and John Davidson. It's funny and charming.
What a lucky guy John Davison is ❤
I've always loved this song. He has always been adorable and handsome.⚘
Hi Vanessa
A beautiful woman. Inside and out. Her voice is phenomenal
PHENOMENAL
@@SuperWoodyboy 😂Thank you for that correction
She was adorable - such a darling smile and a gorgeous voice ❤️
Perfect, perfect Cass Elliot !!!!!!
John was and is still amazing. You can clearly see the respect and admiration John had for Cass. He didn't make any distasteful jokes at her expense unlike many other variety shows did when she was a guest. Johnny Carson treated her very respectfully too. Her weight was never a punchline on his show and you could tell he loved speaking with her and listening to her perform on his show.

I've seen this video dozens of times and it never fails to warm my heart! 🥰
Cass Elliot was one of my favorite singers. I wanted to sing just like her and wore her records out! This is wonderful!
She had so much more to give this world. Miss her so much.
The one,the only, the most amazing. Such a pure voice.
I just loved this! Looks as though they were having fun!
Hi Lorraine
here she sings as if she wants people to hear her.
She wants it but knows she cant get it.
And realizes it.
And still tries to get it.
What a heartache.
What an amazing artist she was. She was beautiful in so many ways. Truly a loss the day she died before her time. Her memory lives on through her beautiful voice.
i'm 59 years old..where has this been all my life?
watch cassie all the way and you can feel it.
Cass Elliot was so talented. Her weight is irrelevant. What is important she was a kind person who left this earth way too soon.
So lovely to see the absolute joy she had singing this.
I'm going saying something stupid like I love them.
I know I stand in line
Until you think you have the time
To spend an evening with me
And if we go some place to dance
I know that there's a chance
You won't be leaving with me
Then afterwards we drop into a quiet little place
And have a drink or two
And then I go and spoil it all
By saying somethin' stupid like, "I love you"
I can see it in your eyes
That you despise the same old lies
You heard the night before
And though it's just a line to you
For me it's true
And never seemed so right before
I practice every day
To find some clever lines to say
To make the meaning come through
But then I think I'll wait
Until the evening gets late
And I'm alone with you
The time is right, your perfume fills my head
The stars get red, and, oh, the night's so blue
And then I go and spoil it all
By saying somethin' stupid like, "I love you"
The time is right, your perfume fills my head
The stars get red, and, oh, the night's so blue
And then I go and spoil it all
By saying somethin' stupid like, "I love you"
"I love you"
"I love you"
"I love you"
"I love you"
