At least you won’t have to go through cases of PBlaster when working in it!! Nice find. Just restoring my second 84. First one got swapped with a 3800, second is staying original, for now 😉
Thank you for the kind words! I've barely got any seat time in this car, a few miles. It's going off to semi local guru Brian Welch to get all the suspension and steering rebuilt. I'm thinking of changing the wheels as well. The one 84 that really speaks to me is the Indy Pace Car, and 90% of it is that wild interior. I love it.
I bought it for 8k. I put 7k into maintenence and refurb, full engine out service, clutch, slave cyl, shift cables, new motor mounts fabbed, all new bushings, all new suspension, wheels and tires etc. Then it sold on ebay for $20,150 earlier this year.
Two years ago. You might not even have the car now. I love the late model Fieros . The color is perfect and it looks really clean. I hope this car project was a success and you had many hours of fun in what is now a rare and unique car.
Hillarious seeing someone else fiddle with that key to open the trunk to access the engine. It appears that the 88 fast back and 88 formula share the same interior set up. Stunning ride.. the fiero was too hott for it's time.. with it's eyes set on smashing Chevy's over weight under powered Corvette. At half the price... Think about it ? the Pontiac fiero had what ? a five year head start on the NSX with it's mid engine little pistol of a car. With 88 being the year Pontiac having that little guy finally dialed in...with Toyotas mr2 being it's only real advesary . Having driving both the 88 mr2 and the 88 formula fiero . Formula fun. MR2 well the name speaks for itself .as that was badly said . My point is just that look at what Chevy had finally come on board with 34 years later. Mid engine does kick ass ..and that right now! instead of the NSX.. being wolf's car of choice in the movie pulp fiction. It would have been the fiero. Sorry little guy . Excuse me I tend to rant. On this subject . Your car ROCKs bro. The fast back design speaks for itself come on just look at it ..stunning absolutely stunning especially in red .
I agree, they are great! Thanks for the kind words. This car is off getting a full suspension rebuild, new clutch, rebuilt shifter and new cables, and even new wheels. I cannot wait to show you guys the transformation!
Thanks man! Yeah I'm 100% excited. It's going across the state to get the suspension and steering completely rebuilt. I'm also going to change the wheels. I'm excited to make a lot more videos with this car!
That looks like a gen v blower (newer generation) should be a 12 second car easy. Check out toys for life on RUclips he has a 11sec fiero mostly stock 3800sc on e85 running 11s with the 4t65hd
I love his channel!! I watch it every video. The new tires will help it hook. Like I said, stay tuned for the next video! We will get some 0-60 and 1/4 mile times!
@@mattquerio I just subscribed so I could watch what you do with your 88 and learn from you. I can hear the excitement in your voice (I have it too since the 1984 LA car show) so I know you have the Fiero bug with the coveted-19, 88GT variant. I have four 88GT's and do most of my own work. One stock. One twin-turbo 3.4. One race ready. One to sell, trade for ??, or keep. I'm still learning about how to work on and where to find parts for them as you will be too.
Just subscribed to see where you go with it. I have two I drive(87 and 88) and two parts cars(84 and 87) I've had 6 in since starting three years ago. Also have a 99 Buick park avenue with 3800 sc I drive from time to time for later swap along with another loose 3800 sc from 2000 regal GS. Welcome back to the madness.
I had an 88 stock, handles great and that's coming from a 3 time 1st gen NSX owner. But at 6 foot, I could never get comfortable. Never had that issue in NSX or Mr2. Cool car though!
The 3800 sc performs really well, and fits nicely. It's an old swap, but it's got a lot of support. The LS4 has gained popularity in the past few years, but then you're limited to either an automatic, or a pricey F40 6 speed. What would be your swap of choice?
@@mattquerio From what I've read the 3800SC is the cheapest most reliable way to make 250WHP but if you want more, the advantages kind of disappear. and they're kind of heavy and don't sound the best. I Love the old Ferraris too. They had pretty high revving engines, so I want to spend the money building an LQ1 maybe?
Play with that areoforce gauge. That should give you a lot of info including a correct rpm…. What size is the pulley? I think you’re crazy conservative on the 260… a tune is probably 15-20 plus the pulley another 15-20 depending on size. There’s basically no exhaust because of how short is is… I’d say your 260 wheel. My 04 impala ss with a 3.4 pulley, zzp down pipe, zzp power log, colder plugs, 180tstat, tune put down 239 to the wheels and that’s running through a automatic. I’m guessing that engine would be more with the gen v blower
@@mattquerio I almost got hooked on astro , but guys were using different motors, s 10 add ons so I bailed The vette is just right For $ and fun It is spooky on I 80 and the 18 wheelers since it's very low profile.
To be honest if switched interior colors I'd go with a factory color for the sake of ease, and I'd probably go with the saddle/tan interior, and top it off with some Mr Mike's tan leather seats!
I love my 88 GT. I bought it 34 years ago.
Wow, you bought it new????

Heads up, the intercooler from the '03-04 Cobra will work underneath the Eaton, if you have clearance, Clarence.
These are cool little cars!
Whoa! I'm gonna have to look into that! Zzp makes kits, but they're out of stock currently. Thanks for the tip!
Bro no joke I literally was going to buy this car about a year ago but the guy ended up backing out on me that’s so crazy that you bought it
If you don’t mind me asking how much did he end up selling it to you for? We agreed on 7k after about a month of talking but then he backed out

I've always wanted a fiero but after discovering the 3800 swap I really want one of these cars.
I've had 2.8s, and the 3800sc is a whole different car!

It was so fun. I don't have it anymore, but there are more videos on the channel, including when it was finished! Check it out if you have time!

love that car, still looks good in 2024
I agree. This shape ages so so well.
Love wingless deck lids.
Me too! I've owned 4 fieros, and my last 87 was my first wingless. At first I didn't like it, but now the clean look has grown on me.
Looks like a pretty sweet Fiero GT
Thanks man! I'm excited to do more with it. Lots of updates come spring!
Nice find she’s a clean 88!

Nice Fiero! 👍
Thank you!!!
Awesome. Like a mini Ferrari
Haha thanks man! It's the closest I'm going to get in my price range!
Love the Fiero platform.
Same here. It's the cheapest mid engine platform you can get into that you can maintain reliably and make a lot of power and have fun.

I am 6 foot, 225lbs, and this was my 4th fiero. Although I think I have kind of a long torso vs short legs!
These are sooo cool.. I wonder what a Caddilac Northstar FWD V8 combo would do in that????
People swap in the Northstar. 300hp moves these things very well.
Nice car! Not really my first choice for engines but should be Very fun lol

U don't need a key it's got a Electric button on the dash to push it to open it
Yep. It'd been a while. I had forgotten. I took this video the day it got home. It's been 3 years since my last fiero.

You may be right, and I was erroring toward the conservative side. It's a 3.4" pulley. When the car is back from refurb we will see what it does :D
I'll have to look more into the gauge, I have the manual but I'm not fully familiar yet. A new video will be coming soon!
I have a 86 ES V6
do I have to change the transmission of a stock automatic fiero 1987 if I put the 3800 supercharged ?
Typically people use the 4t65hd from a gtp or common donor car. I don't think the th125 stock automatic will do it my friend.
Great buy man!
Thank you!
Nice👍 nothing like fiero💪💯
Thanks man! I agree!
Hey Matt don't ever go into 90s wrangler or astro van. I like your property and roads.
I might be tempted by a clean ASTRO van if I found one! 🤔

You know Addco does make bigger sway bars for these...
Good to know! Thank you!
I want one
very nice!!
Thanks!
I respect torque more so than hp
That's why I love the 3800... very torquey!
Go the Fireo store
Oh I'm quite familiar with it :)
Like all other. Used cars the fiero has gone way up in price. It’s going past the price average people can pay for a second car.
There are still great deals out there!!! I know of a few REALLY nice ones out there between 7 and 10k!
I have a ported inlet Gen 3 for sale
If I hear of anyone that needs one I will let them know!
Suggestion: Ditch that ugly concrete gray interior and go with all black with some burgundy accent.

I have a 308 and like this better
A 308 is a dream of mine. Even a Mondial.
Find me one in Abt a year
Will do!
Get new rims sorry but those r ugly
That's harsh. I just got it, and I've got plans. You'll see come spring. When weather comes around I'll give an update.
