Speaking of John ...when ever I hear Another One Bites the Dust played, ⁰, which is several times per week. I still can't get over the sound of that amazing beat from John .... it's fierce bass !!!! He was the greatest bassist EVER...
Enjoyed this interview very much! Thanks Peter, for sharing all these interesting memories of your years with Queen, and especially for what you said about John being such a valuable and talented member of the group. I hope he is having a wonderful retirement, and hope he knows how much he is loved and missed by so many people today. Just got your book and I'm going to read it tonight.
Finished reading QUEEN UNSEEN last night. I have read about 6 books about QUEEN & I think your book is the best. Don't see how you did this work for 12 years. YOU ARE/WERE ONE TOUGH "DUDE"!!!🎸🎸🎸🚚🚛✈️
I so enjoyed the entire interview ; hanging on every word. I think Peter was able to provide an insight that so few would ever know. I know he understands the fans are desperate for any bit of information about Freddie and he still keeps it real. I appreciate the honesty concerning the movie BoRap - just goes to prove the music carries it all.
Man, where did that 90 mins go?! That was superb and what a great start. Peter always comes across as an interesting, witty and honourable guy. Man, the Hot Space bit at the end really got me!! Lol.
Peter Hince is absolutely right about the film. Days of Our Lives, the BBC Documentary, and Peter Hince's book (Queen Unseen) are the best stories of Queen. I stood at the end of the film (I am a Queen fan) and said the script was terrible. The real history of Queen is so much more dramatic than the movie. As to the dialogue . . . Well, new generations were introduced to that wonderful music, and that's a good thing.
I'm getting Peter's book thanks to this podcast and the name- The true Queen without the "garbage rags"--I love hearing about the reality of what happened back then. Its amazing they are still around..and well.
Excellent interview. I've listened to it twice now, having read Peter's book in between. Going to read that again, too. So very interesting to hear from someone who was so involved in the action. Thank you so much for this podcast.
Superb interview and insight here. The revelation that Pete and Mary Austin still talk was very interesting, and how nice that she confirms that Freddie thought a lot of him. Pete Hince, very funny man and amazing insight. That he worked with Ronno solo, let alone Mott and Bowie, my jaw hit the floor as i went to see 'The Mick Ronson Story' in Hull recently. He should of been part of the Queen film and the Ronson story (wonder what he thinks of that).
Great interview, great book. I have to disagree about movie, because I came to it not knowing anything About Queen. And because of the movie I’m a huge Queen fan. Get all the books, the CDs and DVDs of The shows. So for that I’m extremely grateful.
I am so smiling listening to Peter recount beginning to know and working with Freddie and Queen. Today while enjoying Queen's Live Aid Video noticed there was a glitch when Peter took the mic from Freddie at the piano. Hope to hear Peter speak about that. I'm on my third reading of Peter's book - it's wonderful of course. Also, I'm thrilled the movie brought new fans to Queen and to Freddie Mercury's magnificence. Thanks so much for this.
fantastic stuff with ratty, very interesting to hear this! i agree 100% with what he said about the bo rhap movie, i did'nt think malek's stage moves were very good. One thing that amazed me and still does is a brief moment in the actual live aid performance....as bo rhap is nearing its end if you look down at the side of the piano you see ratty taping up fred's mic, it's only 15-20 seconds away from the radio ga-ga intro and ratty is cutting tape on the mic, he makes it in time though! 👑✊🇬🇧
Great interview! Thanks Peter? From watching Queen interviews, and watching the movie, I'm of the opinion that John wasn't very good friends with Roger and maybe Brian, wasn't treated that well by them, and was right to leave when he did. Peter may have agreed or not, would have been nice to know for sure.
What an outstanding interview! I just found this!! And I loved Peter’s book! Read it twice! One of the best books to learn more about Freddie and Queen!! Thank you Peter❤️💛.
The only film worse than Boh rap was the dreadful Oliver Stone movie about Jim Morrison and the Doors. I left the cinema extremely disappointed and oddly sad after both.
the movie is such a disappointment, wrong from the start don't understand why can't they make a truth telling story & all the timing of the whole movie were incorrect plus Remi represented freddie mercury to a kind of not a generous person, arrogant, treated people around him badly (not even closed to real freddie personality based on days of our life documentary along with his closed friends interview doc.)
Great interview, I've seen a few doco's with Peter, he's a cool guy, When you don't put you're pants on yourself you have to expect them to be back to front occasionly, Freddie would love gigging in 2022 with many wearing face masks, I've said often over the last 2 years that masks should be mandatory for the handsomely challenged, not sure who would adjudicate that though, not too many would admit voluntarily to have been hit with the ugly stick.....Long Live Queen and The Queen for that matter....I enjoyed the film but having lived through career in real time it was hard to absorb actors playing them, I look forward to Bohemian Rapsody 2, not sure who will play Adam Lambert but I'm a big Cummerbatch fan, he'd be good, I think there's more chance of Titanic 2 than Bohemian Rapsody 2 in reality.
I saw the film knowing nearly nothing about Queen and not a fan. I enjoy the movie but then I researched and was almost angry about the creative license they took. While I get that al members are talented it was Freddie Mercury who had the vision and pushed the group to the heights they reached. The made up story of him having to grovel to get the band "back" together is SOOOOO dishonoring to Freddie Mercury.
I agree, I think that Brian May had too much input into the movie. I feel that through the movie he was trying to down play Freddies inportance in Queen, this may have backfired a bit as since the movie Freddie's fan base has grown. And lets face it there have been no more hits written since 1991. The reality is that they were the greatest live band because they had the greatest frontman - Freddie.
True. That was unfair and not a point with which they should have taken creative license. Brian has repeatedly said that Fred was easy to work with, and a uniting force in the band. Hated that lie in the movie, made me hate the movie
Thank you for your insight about the film Bo- Rap. it did not show Freddie' s good side, the true story indeed. the film was about what they want to show people not the true details. Just what i thought. it was far from the truth! there was a scene where it showed freddie was the one who urged the band for him to come back, almost begging them? its not like Freddie to do that! im sure it was Brian's idea, all of it. all the scripts😲
I Agree 100 percent with Peter about the movie. The script was Dreadful and the words were wooden. It could have been made much, better. It would not have been difficult to make it right.
As a 57 yr old female, I agree with Peter Hince on the movie. I certainly dont think as a #Queen fan since age 13, it is a true, factual film. Not so sure 😕 Freddie would approve of film. Geez I say C+
Speaking of John ...when ever I hear Another One Bites the Dust played, ⁰, which is several times per week. I still can't get over the sound of that amazing beat from John .... it's fierce bass !!!! He was the greatest bassist EVER...
Underplayed and needing more volume in the greater, earlier stuff

John Deacon is highly underrated! He’s the best bassist ever !❤️❤️love John Deacon 💙
He is very melodic and wrote beautiful pieces. The most complete band of all time for sure

I laughed out loud when he said Freddie physiologically arm twisted him into staying longer w the band....(such a compliment). Great interview!
Excellent interview. Thank you so much. I have read his book, but this brought it all to life.

Yes, John Deacon was under- rated those times..but Freddie understood him. John was a great Bass player👍
I've been a Queen fan since the 1970s. This was a very entertaining interview. Now to buy the book...

@@roadcrewpod You're welcome! Here I am listening to this most enjoyable interview with Peter Hice once again. Cheers!
Love listening to Peter ! His book is wonderful! Queen and Peter were hard working ! ❤️❤️
it was good of you to be closer to Mary after all those years.. and i feel you know more about Freddie than Brian knew of him

Love this interview. Agree with him about the movie.
Great interview. Read Peters book last year. It was one, if not best book I read on Queen. He’s also quite funny describing situations in his book.

wow, he did NOT like the film. He is right. It is a dreadful film. Good for you Peter for telling it like it is.
Yes. I respect all the actual people who were around that have been truthful about that shitty film.
