I am a black woman and I am over the " strong black woman" and " Boss chic" ideology is exhausting to me at this point I have been called both and I am over it. I want rest in my life I have worked so hard since I was 16 years old raise my daughter she is 17 years old now I am a single parent my daughter father was murdered when I was pregnant with her and I always went hard until the point of exhaustion and I still have to work and I am going back to school to finish my second degree because I have to continue to provide for myself and daughter until she is able to stand on her own two feet, but its a sad thing that I have to work so hard forever.

It kind of reminds me of when I was a kid. Preteens and teenagers want to be grown so badly until they're actually given all of the responsibilities of adulthood. My ex SIL doing the same thing. Told her she wasted my brother's time with all that she was doing and she tried to do that " we had good memories" and other stuff. Here comes eggplant after eggplant when a big reason for the split was she wanted to experiment with women. The relationship she had when she left was so toxic it was pitiful. Now she say only men try to talk to her. But they only see her as a good time and it's sad to see. We told her that this would happen but she didn't want to believe it. I think my problem dating black women is most of their surroundings are either struggle in coming from single motherhood homes are simply being "miss independent" after building a career for themselves. Either one of those are very bleak outlooks for a successful relationship because they come with that "I can do it by myself" mentality. Meanwhile, most are not used to having that structure and will run off whenever they deem things boring or not good enough. Rather stay away and date other races that embrace family and men.. Not worth the risk!!
Struggling in a single mother home turns you into a never stop go getter because of how you grew up. At least for women. You watch your mom struggle and decide you don't want that. There's no man so you don't know what a man taking care of a family looks like. Believe me, I've never labeled myself independent, but after my first c-section when I was up and about and rejected help from my partner and his mom, I realized no amount of love will make me trust that someone else has got this. I'm still learning but the fear of not being able to depend on others is greater than most think. The concept of not working and someone else paying ALL the bills is also scary for many. It's fear, not boss shit. Imagine a man can just kick you and your kids out because he pays all the bills? That's scary af. Black women have trust issues beyond what you think may be trivial. It's never ending survival mode, even when it doesn't have to be. The fear in itself is enough to make us never quit a job even if we can just chill.
