Brilliant bruh calls himself......Ifatunde? cmon fam. Not Israel? ok then give us a Muslim, Hindu,Shaolin or Zoroaster name. A race is a SEED, so we have a father. Father what? So with all of the great "books" written who is our father? an ancient anamist who's religion is land and animals?
It’s true! My daughter called me from California in LA telling me her Chinese doctor refused to do a nature birth and that she would do in fact a c- section! And she gets more money for doing it that way! Her doctor was bold out spoken and to the point! My daughter made it clear that’s not what I want! Ok, so my daughter got up walked out , drove 1 hour and 15 mins while in labor! Then went down to the Beverly Hill hospital around rich folks away , from her hood neighborhood healthcare doctors clinic! Her baby was born healthy and safe ! Today they are both fine!!!!! 🎉❤🎉Thank god she had the confidence and courage to trust her own instincts and judgment!
I was having heavy periods and was diagnosed with having fibroid tumors. This was the 1980 and i was scheduled for a hysterectomy. I was only 26 and wanted to marry and have children one day. I was told i would have a slim to none chance pf carrying a baby to full term because of the size of one of the tumors. A black coworker also has a hysterectomy when she was 23 because of fibroids and before she could have any children. It didn't feel right to me, especially coming from an all-white medical staff.. i didn't show up for the operation. I'm glad I didn't. I gave birth to my full -term daughter nine years later.
I had gotten my uterus removed at the age 21 doctor told me my heavy periods was more likely from having cancer. Got the uterus removed no cancer period.
My wife has heavy periods and she had fibroids too. She was told the same thing as you so she had an operation to remove them. We didn't have our son until over 7 years later but she had to have a c-section. A year later, our daughter was born through a c-section as well. She still has pretty heavy periods to this day. After reading your comment, I wonder if she should have skipped that initial operation too.
I'm a birth and postpartum doula here in Memphis TN. It does my heart good to see and hear this! Yes! As a woman who almost bled to death during birth doulas are definitely needed. Our women need to be saved our babies need to be saved. Thank you Dr. Umar!
He talked about how he tried to hire black contractors to do the HVAC in the buildings and they took his money. He in turn had to hire white folks to do the job. He talks about it in his interviews. Watch a couple more of them then reflect. @@kenyaamina257
Listen I am a nurse I work in OB it’s Racism . We have to learn how to articulate ourselves in a educated manner. We are our first advocate . I had a doctor who wanted to do a TAB or an assisted abortion I said no because my baby had a heart beat I went on to have a healthy baby . I knew what questions to ask and that resident was so mad I advocated for my self. Me being educated saved my daughters life.
BLACK PEOPLE NEED TO TEAC, EDUCATED, BECAUSE THE DOCTORS HAVE A TEAM. AND, THE BLACK NEEDS WE JEED TO DECREASE IN EACH FIELD. THE MAN AND WOMEN IN THE MIRROR. OTHER RACES, ALLIW BLACK AMERICANS IN THEIR GROUPS. BLACKS AMERICANS ARE BIG TIME DISCRIMINATED AGAINST, TRAININGS, JOBS, CONTRACTS, AND WORKING THROUGH THE OBSTACLES IS REAL WORK.
I birthed my 5th child at home by myself BECAUSE the white doctor sent me home during labor even though I was clearly having contractions. Plus, it was my 5th child I know my body! Thank God my husband and 3 oldest children were home to come and help with me and baby.
Now you’re lying to speak to a narrative, that’s against the law to refuse medical attention in the USA, you can discharge yourself but no doctor is sending home a woman whose in active labor home..that’s called a lawsuit.
The intense feelings that are felt when given birth naturally is beautiful higher than what ever drug that THEY invent. I'm proud 👏🏿 of you for not taking them rejecting you from the hospital personally it also saved you a ton of money towards their over priced medical bills❤.

Am Ugandan and very African at heart and really admire the knowledge and wisdom you put out to the black community thanks for inspiring all most especially the women.
Although it's a great idea, that's not all we have to do. Without encouraging them to reach leadership positions, they become slaves or puppets for the oppressor, which does not benefit the black community. We need the right leadership in any profession, not just doctors, to succeed.

Dr. Umar is very great and should be honored for his willingness to have the tough conversations regardless of lack of political correctness, or acceptance by the status quo of black intelligence promoted by the media. 💯
I absolutely love this man. Most people place such high expectation on conduct that they miss the message and information he provides. He is human and he provides information because he cares. A lot of folks support people who do nothing for you or your community but take. Support this man at all costs
@shanahowze561 The reason for this saying was because the dirty Europeans didn't know how to wash properly. Remember, it was the black folks who taught them how to bathe. They were using the same bathe water. So because the water was so dirty, they couldn't see the baby 🙄
We are witnessing a national treasure with Dr. Umar Johnson! He always breaks down everything eloquently, but in a common sense way. I wonder if he & Dr. Cornell West have had a conversation. They are both such important men & figures in our community. We as black people have to come together more. We are such a dominant human! Blessings to you all. 🙌🏾🙏🏾
Everything hes sayin has been said many times before. Hes just sayin it with authority, and diction which makes most think he discovered this info himself (he didnt)

Epidural supressed labor take longer to birth your baby women need to get back to natural birth I always thought something was not right so I never let put nothing in me during my labour all four children were natural
Brother Umar is the Truth! I don't care, who dislikes him or talks about him; he's the realest out here for our peeps. Does he have some problems, of course, but name ONE Black person, who doesn't have any problems dealing with these devils.
As a mother who refused to step foot in the hospital when I was pregnant, I had 2 healthy and normal homebirths with the assistance of a very knowledgeable midwife. I appreciate you talking about this and encouraging women to explore alternatives to hospital birth and drugs given in labor. Best of luck to all parents who are expecting.
As a black woman, I’m afraid of the hospital because I saw how my mother was treated & even just her telling me some of her experiences…it was terrible to hear. I don’t have kids & I try to be as healthy as possible because I don’t trust hospitals.
You don't have to be fearful of any of that. Become really good friends with a doula that the hospital already has a relationship with or respects and bring the doula with you to the hospital. All the black women I know hired white doulas and went right to that hospital and had a built in advocate and nobody had any complications. fight back with knowledge and awareness. Peanut balls and prenatal ballet and know your body. C-sections are not needed more often than not.
I had an awful experience getting a c-section at 38 years old. I told the doctor who was preparing to perform the surgery that he was hurting me (after the epidural) he replied, "There is no way you can feel that!" and continued to be rough with me. I don't trust doctors or hospitals AT ALL.
Spread your experience on Roland Martin, all of the social media to help others open up and bring more awareness. The wars overseas is nothing compared to the everyday torture, massive incarceration, killing and stealing inside the sabotage divided disconnected U.S.A.

If I wasn't in the hospital room for my daughter I think my kids mother would have passed. I'm not even a doctor and witnessed extreme neglect during the labor process. It's almost like they let the students preform with no supervision.

OMG!! I'm 55 years of age and this happened to me 30 years ago. I was on public medicaid for insurance and I was never able to give birth again. Ten years ago I had a hysterectomy because my uterus had been plagued with "fibroid tumors", for 20 years (after that C-Section). By the time I had the C-Section, I was "doing well financially, I was successful and had private insurance" through my and my husband's job. I also had a Black African female doctor, who told me, while in recovery from my hysterectomy, "I see why you never had any more children, it was a fuckin' mess in there!!" Thank you for bringing awareness. Thank you for loving us and being so passionate.
We're in an age where ppl do what is pleasing to them, not God. The average woman is lost and don't even know it. I am up a 3:30 AM while feeding my son and Im Stunned at this conversation that is long overdo!! Jesus I screamed out, I felt like I was in church. Life has taken a turn in a downward demonic way! 😢 lord cover my children
Preaching Dr. Umar!! I hâte the over emphasis on sports in black communities. God forbid a little black boy does not gravitate towards sports…It practically forced on them at some point. My black five year old son is gifted and reads and comprehends at a fifth grade level, 3rd grade level mathematics, and grasp concepts he shouldn’t understand. I seek out black male doctors, educators and leaders as role models for my child so they can see what’s possible. Me and my husband live in a diverse suburbs with blue ribbon schools and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I think building large black networks at all levels is just as influential as only staying in black neighborhoods.
My son was doing college level work at his age. Put him in band and orchestra. Music will help fully develop his intellect. Please put in him a high-quality classical music program
No, I don't think every black male child should be forcefully directed into sports! However, sports and exercise should be a part of every child's life!!! If presented to each child the physical health benefits of sports and the strategic mind and competitive comradory of sports is just as beneficial as academics! Especially today with sedentary cell phones, computers and gaming!!! It is the parents job to balance their children, a push and support the specific interest and strong talents!!!
Music is another activity that black kids are pushed to do. We are more that these two things.. I’m glad you’re steering your child in another direction. This is what other communities do.
I am so traumatized by the c-section I had. Ended up in the ICU while baby went to NICU, baby was 2 lbs. Wasn't allowed to see my baby for weeks. While preparing for emergency c-section was pressured to have hysterectomy, said no way. Hospital wanted to drug me up as part of treatment, opted out. Took me 1 year to physically heal. Never want to get pregnant again. Will cherish my one child.
That sounds like what happened when my husband and I was pregnant with our first born. Epidural slowed my childs heart and they told me they will have to do a csection. I was scared. The doctor told me he had to hurry up so he could make it home for dinner. When I got pregnant with my second, they told me I would never be able to have a vaginal birth, and needed to schedule a csection. And I had every child after that naturally..refused meds, went to deliver when I knew I was well and ready. I listened to my body. I was done listening to these doctors.
He is one of the very few black men that still makes a lot of sense with a good strong level-head on his shoulders. Esp. in these days of self-hating toxic black manosphere. I find myself mostly agreeing with him on many issues facing the black community. What i love the most about Dr. Umar is that he has NEVER succumbed to self-hatred as a black man and always kept a little love and respect for the women of HIS race.
Most of you have zero room to talk. There’s self-hating divestment spaces, spaces discussing aborting black boys, and most recently, spaces celebrating black boys being gunned down by cops. So from our angle, there are also very few of you with sense and a level head.
the way yall go about it is..... i be on Clubhouse to pass the time at work.. and yall are very disgusting towards black women....yall have no love for them....its disgusting. and then the way yall propogste white women that dont want yall....its really nasty. you cant ejaculate into women then complain that their single mothers....you left. of course shes a single mother. if we as black men collectively created a safe environment for black women they wouldnt behave the way that they do..... yall constantly talking about other races of women are more feminine...its because the men of their culture created a space where they could be....no woman in my family is "masculine"..... because they dont have to be....because the men in my family hold shit down.
Exactly: Why did Umar call for the extermination of 10% of black boys? Why does Jermaine claim to advocate for black families but neglected his own children? Why does Jermaine continue to lie about being related to Frederick Douglass?
Women are getting BBLs because MEN like IT!!! Point blank period. It's funny. Men like things, then when women do what MEN like, then MEN shame them for it, lol
My mother birth over 70 children in my community of Jamaica. She said she birth me herself. She said the best way to give birth is not to lay back but to stoop down almost in a defecating position with legs apart. Very interesting to watch and listen Umar speaks on this. Not one child ever died or the mothers and my mom was not clinically trained. she is now 88 yrs hence she does it no more.
That's so dope! My grandmother was a midwife in Ghana and was so revered in the community. I'm a nurse and hope to be a 1/3 of what she was to her people
The primary issue with this interview is that there are no black women present, yet they’re the topic of conversation. I’m a black mother with no implants and wasn’t able to breast feed, however, the opposite was true of a family member who had implants and was successful at breast feeding. I would have appreciated the input of a doula, AA ob/gyn, midwife etc.
There’s a RUclipsr called mazelee and she has about 8 healthy children - all born at home and she made a birthing video. She was standing through the process and it was quick. She’s amazing
My daughter got pregnant again! This time she saved $10,000 went to a beautiful Malibu private in home birth center with two women that specialize in nature child birth! The birth takes place in a round tubal and with warm water, soft lights, soft jazz music, nice long rubs, the father is there to help ! The birth care giver helps guild her throughout the entire process! Both mom and child were healthy! No violence’s very positive vibes! Baby immediately Breast feeds after getting cleaned up and weighted! 🎉🎉🎉❤
You can find these places any where in LA ! Oh yeah my daughter said these private birth centers have or are near a hospital or have a doctor on stand by just incase something goes very wrong! I would have to ask her what is the actual address! Also for a few months before the birth, she had a female dula not sure if I spelled that right! This is a woman who helps you months before baby comes! She comes to your house! Goes with you to your ultrasound, rubs your stomach, keeps a journal to track your progress, and helps you emotionally! I think their cost is $500 to $750 ! They work with several different women as well and are well train! They also recommend vitamins, minerals or supplements, working with your doctors advise on meds usage! They provide positive vibes over all and , talk about suggestions concerning easy work outs! But more importantly they allow you to never feel alone! So you can call and say hey, I am stressed out or just overwhelmed, or why can’t I feel my babies heart beat! They come directly to your house or apt! In the Black community we need millions of professional Dulas! Sorry I can’t tell you the exact location because right now at this exact moment my daughter as blocked me because, I keep pushing her to consider Pan Africanism and Black nationalism! I have a three year plan to move to Ghana! My two daughters think I am being foolish and having a melt down or mid life crisis! And I have reassured them no at night the ancestors whisper in my ear and head telling me it’s time to get out and leave America! So now my daughter is refusing to talk to me! Because I continue to warn both of them and my 9 grandchildren who all think hey Grandmother is losing it ! I really think as Africans we are at war! Please do research and find a birth center on your own! One think my daughter did say! Was this birth center was in I think Malibu , not sure, but the actual property was in the woman’s home! And that property was on the beach. And they went as a family for a visit and the woman open up her sliding glass doors to show the ocean front and sun set! My daughter took her two other children and they were like oh mom can we live here and have a beautiful place like this! Of course my daughter was to embarrassed at the time to explain to her kids age 5, and 8 years old , that a place like this was for now out of financial reach!
@@shareesepm1484 One last text! My daughter said these women who have in home birth centers make $250,000 every 6 months ! Like crazy money 💰! Ok she said the woman also as I think a licensed nurse or something to train other women like her and wealthy mostly white women come to her for their baby’s birth! So that tells me two things, one some white womenfolk know something is not right, and two they have kept these secret places and info to themselves! And their white privileged lifestyle has allowed them to make everything from yoga , to breast feeding, to drinking smoothies , shopping at Whole Food markets , costly grocery stores, to healthy 🪴 gardening and becoming a vegan as a upper class trend for educated white folks! Not true! Are people have been gardening before we left from down southern states! What has been lose is the wisdom, knowledge, and experiences from our elders to pass on this information!
We all have a different opinion about someone who have their right to be what they wish as long as no one being force to do something they're not agreeing to?🙏
So much truth has been told that I need breaks to catch my breath! Dr Umar told NO LIES! I'm tired of all of this. Black people, we deserve so much and now, a lot of our wounds are self-inflected. I'm GLAD to be a black woman because I learned so much about the world through my identity, I just hope that most of my peers will be more awake.
As a black immigrant pharmacist living a great neighborhood, I saw changes on my daughter personality. She lost her self-esteem, I took her out of school this year.
This was my story with my first child. I had no intentions of doing a c section then I got a c section because the epidural messed with my son’s heart beat. My exact story. I’m glad to still be here after 3 children. My husband was there to help and I’m grateful.
I definitely dont agree what a lot of what Umar says, but when he comes with facts he’s like a freight train(unstoppable). I respect an educated man period. Which is why I can’t completely let him go.
That's basically how I feel. I don't agree with him on everything, but when he's right, well darn it, he's right. If BP would just thoroughly listen to his words/message instead of automatically jumping to knock him , they would get it.
He plays an important role but some of his rhetoric is brainless & ignorant - the pregnancy dialogue was insane & he's basically blaming his lack of preparation for a natural childbirth on a large scale conspiracy designed to eliminate Blk women..... C section follows an epidural b/c an epidural analgesic crashes a woman's Oxytocin production...... Oxytocin aka the Love Hormone is also a natural Uterotonic - a substance that causes a woman's uterus to CONTRACT n Labor - so the Epidural solves One problem - terrible pain which Intensifies stress & fera in the mother but Creates another - no contractions No birth So let's explain this process as it normally occurs during Labor..... mother wants a natural child birth but mother & father have done nothing to actually Prepare for a natural child birth - usually b/c they are part of the largest population in America - the poor & working class - who have no time to prepare for a natural childbirth b/c both are working their ballz off just to make ends meet b/c in Murica the poor & working class are exploited, abused & terrorized every minute of every day of their adult lives by a Gov apparatus designed to grind them down now this suffering is NOT limited to Blk people - but as Always in America - whatever the indignation heaped on to the poor & working class the Blk poor & working class get an Extra helping..... so it is very rare that a poor & working class couple of ANY race has the time, money or inclination to hire a qualified Doula what is a Doula - a Doula is an Advocate for the mother to be who helps the mother plan for a healthy & safe child birth & communicates the game plan to the Medical team & they work together to ensure that plan occurs w/ pre-planning, practice & so on a Doula is Diff from a Mid-wife in that a Mid-Wife is an expert at the Medical procedure of Delivery whereas a Doula provides the Mother to be And her family w/ emotional, physical & informational support during pregnancy, birth & post partum period & that can be a natural child birth of C section this is very effective b/c the Doula can practice optimal birthing positions - on all 4's or squatting on haunches as one would defecate in the woods for lack of a better example. he Doula can prep the mother to be by explaining the cascading nature of events that take place during pregnancy so she is mentally & emotionally prepared for example, even though the pain of child birth is horrendous a woman can still have a natural child birth free of epidural analgesics b/c during Natural Childbirth the woman's body builds up Natural occurring hormonal analgesics (analgesic just means pain reliver) called Beta-Endorphins that allow a woman Transcend the pain of Labor - if you've ever heard a woman describe as "In another World" or being in an "altered State" & not remembering the pain of Labor past a certain point - this is a direct result of these Beta-endorphins Beta-endorphins also put a women in this state of near hypnosis b/c this altered state of consciousness allows her to instinctively work WITH her body during Labor to produce a Natural Child-birth...... Epidurals Also crash the body's production of Beta-endorphins So most couples arrive at the Hospital in an emergency panic stricken mind set wanting a natural child birth but unprepared to make that happen.... So what happens instead is the already fearful & stressed woman begins to experience Labor pain and her anxiety level multiplies exponentially...... Stress causes Massive inflammatory response on the cellular level in the human body under the best of conditions but during Labor the Inflammatory response is Exponential The woman tries to hold it together emotionally but Pain & Stress cause Much more damage than merely Emotional - suddenly b/c of the increased BP produced by the Stress & Fear produced by the Terrible Agony of Labor both the woman & the baby begin a Cascading effect of negative consequences caused by the Pain.... I already outlined the hormonal issues & the severe impact they have on the body but there are many others & instead of the mother reviewing the advice of the Doula standing beside her & breathing to lower her BP she goes into a panic state causing Doctors to prioritize pain relief & the Mom to be thinks this is a Great idea as she Screams for relief - Multiple times So at this point Umar saying "you might wanna take it easy on those Epidurals while the Mom to be is out of her mind & in a trance from Pain - it's kind of Laughable...... So the mother gets the Epidural, all the predictable negative Labor events occur - w/ the Oxytocin levels crashed - the Labor is literally at a Stand Still Oxytocin levels at the moment of Birth (Natural Child Birth) are the Highest a woman will experience in here LIFE So the Doc orders a C-section - A) b/c it is the Safe & Medically Correct thing to do & B) b/c if the Doc fails to do a C section & something goes wrong he or she will be SUED into the poor house..... this is an extremely common outcome and has NOTHING to do w/ the Race of the Mother & for Umar to pull this theory out his azz & throw it on the wall to see if anyone is foolish enough to believe it is really beneath a person of his intelligence & importance b/c it diminishes his credibility Couples plan a pizza party w/ more determination & effort than child birth which is the seminal moment in their lives

Both of my sons, 1 hour in delivery. I didn't push when they said push, I followed what my grandmother told me. I sat up, stooped down on the bed holding the rails. I had a Grenadian Dr. He was trying to get me to do things that my grandmother said no too.
@shayluv50 These people are suppose to be there to help. However, they’re suppose to let the woman assume the birthing position that she is most comfortable with. Also they’re only suppose to guide you when to push which is usually when you feel a contraction. For me I pushed when the contraction hit its peak not as soon as I felt it. It took me almost an hour to deliver.

Sounds like a personal problem and not a larger issue. I went to "white" school in preschool and kindergarten, came out completely fine and not pressed about another race. Maybe grow up? That might help.
It's definitely tough. I dealt with a similar issue for years after school. even though I experienced some privileges, I still had (HAVE) a lot to unpack. Only advice I could give is to remember that you are worth it.
Went to an all white school and a completely different experience. We should not inflate a personal experience to be true for every other person with the same skin tone.
The only push back I think I'll ever give Dr Umar is stance on moving out of the community.... I've personally watched someone get ridiculed and bullied their entire childhood while we grew up in East Orange, to the point of hating themselves, high anxiety, and suicidal thoughts from it. There is a difference between being teased and bullied and if you can't stop being treated terrible by your own people why do you need to still stay?
I see everyone in the comments talking about the beginning of the interview but if you watched the WHOLE THING? Whoa! An absolute masterclass and masterpiece. I feel better for having watched this and, I expect that I will rewatch this. Adding this to my “Mental Health Building” playlist for sure!
He’s speaking facts! Hospitals make more money by c-sections! Also every medical professional knows that an epidural causes the natural contractions to slow down which leads to them giving us pitocin which makes the baby’s heart rate get out of control and next thing you know they make us get a c-section. This happened to so many of my friends/ family members. It’s always the same process! Thank you for shining light on so many important topics Dr. Umar Johnson!
I agree I was blessed in 2022 to have my first vbac after 3 c-sections. I delivered at home with a certified midwife and doula. My son was 8lbs 3oz and my labor was 14hrs. I used alot if natural remedies remedies and prayer to achieve my success.

Umar just burnt a whole in this, on so many levels. A man who has taken the time to read and internalize, then passed on the wisdom to those of whom desire it. I gain somethin fom him moat times. Great job Umar🎉
So happy I listen to you Doctor Umar until it’s entirety . This is the first time I listened to you but I have heard of you. Thank you so much!!!! Necessary, informative, and definitely needed! It’s like you heard my spirit of what I feel, think, speak, look for and hope for in our progression and especially what I try to instill into my young preteens children! I want and need to do more for our community and our people as a whole! We need more people like you especially MEN. Thank YOU 🙏🏽
I had 3 children, 2 natural with a epidural. From my personal experiences, avoid the epidural at all costs, and if it's possible to have a home birth. I'd recommend it. The epidural only worked on one side of my body, and I felt all the pain. When I decided to have the other two without it. I could not only deal with the pain, but the birthing experience was also different, it felt more natural, and my body knew how to adjust and deal with pain. It was the contractions that hurt the most, the pushing, honestly. Not so much!
Second consecutive day that I listened to another one of Dr. Umar interview and on this second day I felt compelled to start researching for my business plan that is going to help black moms and children. Its all mental! We can do it.
I don't even know where to begin. Dr. Umar makes it make sense! His knowledge base is on point. It's apparent that he's passionate about his calling, and passion is something that can't be taught; you either have it or you don't. I'm definitely going to re-listen just in case I missed something the first time.
I sit with pen and paper when i listen to this beautiful black man, I need to take notes to focus on later. I'm so captivated by his presence, he's well spoken, handsome and very engaging. I absolutely love listening to him❤
They did the same thing when my daughter was born. My wife was in labor 22hrs trying to deliver without meds. Finally couldn’t keep going and did epidermal. About 45 minutes later my daughters heart rate dropped and an emergency C-section was ordered.
I love this knowledge eventho I had gastric sleeve, mommy make over, bbl, and facial injections. I love natural and I love me now. I honor this brother for his brilliance
I told my doctor that I wanted a natural birth. She said," now why would you wanna do that"?. I changed doctors immediately. She called me && confronted me
I love how he especially explains internal insecurities that stem from rejection within our family and community. A lot of black people has dealt directly and indirectly with colorist and colorism. Unfortunately, people within our own community and family have criticized others features like there nose, eyes, lips, hair texture, and complexion. I have heard nicknames that are unflattering that people grow to hate. Also, because they are treated differently they grow to hate these features they possess. They do not wish to reproduce someone in there likeness. Growing up I wanted to be light skin and I hate my hair type. Every time I would be around one of my cousins or my baby sister with light skin people would just go on and on about how beautiful they were or if a cousin of mine had loose curls and long hair they would just continue to compliment them. Often times I or often times I witness this present day. Other kids around are just standing by awkwardly or like they're invisible. Often times it the same people or strangers. I'm divorced but I did marry outside and maybe deep down I had something to prove other than the fact that I was once in love with him. I remember hearing the beautiful dark skinned young men that I had crushes on say the prettier girls were light skinned or that they wanted mixed children. Hearing rappers in my teen years talk about and feature lighter skinned women or "foreign" women in videos. Unless she was super curvy with a small waist like Buffy the Body. So, subconsciously i think i said i can do it to. My esteem was low. No self love, definitely didn't think i was that pretty but cute enough for a white man. First white men imposed beauty standards and then black men. Some women want to be desired by men and will do whatever to get that attention. Skin bleaching, bbls, expensive wigs and so on. If you're living for the male gaze then you will surely have somethings you want to change. Also, some do it for fame or to make more money in adult entertainment. I hope we can continue to journey back to to black love and self love. Minimize the colorism and see the beauty in all shade and shapes.
When I was around 4, my family told me I was too ugly to ever have children. You're not alone with what you experienced from people. I hope you have truly healed 🙏.
I agree, had the same experience! My white teach made me stand up and hold my nose pulling on it along with others! We were told to do this daily so that we would look better and have a decent future! This took place in my catholic school before I was sent to the Scot land School for veterans children back in 1968! Also family members kept asking my mom was my ears to dark! They said I should be taught to pre pare for a lonely life, that know one would want me because I was so dark skin! My male older cousin told me to my face, he would never marry a black woman because we were angry, evil, ugly, and bitches!!!! He wanted only light skin black woman and that’s the type he married! When I was very very young I can remember my mom making me take warm baths with soap but also added a little bleach to try and lighten up my skin especially the elbows and my knees , plus around my neck! My mother was a sweet loving person but she grew up in a time where dark skin was just not viewed as beautiful! This negativity was passed on from generation to generation! Lastly, two of my male light skin cousins who lived in the New Jersey , suburbs but would come to big mamas house in Philly locked me up in a upstairs room to force me to engage in my first experiment into un wanted sexual activity! I will not go into detail but I think back on it and realize now it was because they thought who cares about a dark child who has no real value! I was almost stamped from birth with this bizarre notion and idea that this would be apart of my childhood family experiences! It wasn’t until I picked up Malcom X bio that I realized how to recognize and reconstruct my identity! That process has taken a life time to complete 😢❤😢

that's a wild story! it would make a good book
Smart woman
I had gotten my uterus removed at the age 21 doctor told me my heavy periods was more likely from having cancer. Got the uterus removed no cancer period.
I’m sorry so you went through that. Get a lawyer
My wife has heavy periods and she had fibroids too. She was told the same thing as you so she had an operation to remove them. We didn't have our son until over 7 years later but she had to have a c-section. A year later, our daughter was born through a c-section as well. She still has pretty heavy periods to this day. After reading your comment, I wonder if she should have skipped that initial operation too.

try to have someone with you in room as a witness
You don't have to be fearful of any of that. Become really good friends with a doula that the hospital already has a relationship with or respects and bring the doula with you to the hospital. All the black women I know hired white doulas and went right to that hospital and had a built in advocate and nobody had any complications. fight back with knowledge and awareness. Peanut balls and prenatal ballet and know your body. C-sections are not needed more often than not.

By the time I had the C-Section, I was "doing well financially, I was successful and had private insurance" through my and my husband's job.

Why does Jermaine claim to advocate for black families but neglected his own children?
Why does Jermaine continue to lie about being related to Frederick Douglass?
Agreed, not all woman are getting BBL, only the insecure, attention seeker, desperate, mentally conditioned woman are getting it.
Women are getting BBLs because MEN like IT!!! Point blank period. It's funny. Men like things, then when women do what MEN like, then MEN shame them for it, lol
@ mr.g5480 black women are being murdered every 3.5 hours now and it's predominately by their male counterparts. It's not a good look.
I'm a nurse and hope to be a 1/3 of what she was to her people
Yep that stooping position makes THE MOST sense.
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 that’s what I’ve heard too
I stand with Dr. Umar Johnson and Tammy Mack, the comedian, on what she quoted, and her understand I agree 👍💯
Where exactly is the location. I'm very interested
Good.
Loss not lose! Sorry!
Black peoples know your history, know your culture, know your traditions, know yourselves and remember your ancestors. Thanks 🙏🏿🖤♥️💛💚

We all have a different opinion about someone who have their right to be what they wish as long as no one being force to do something they're not agreeing to?🙏
let him cook yo
❤
Me too. I need breaks to catch my breath and to cry.
As a black immigrant pharmacist living a great neighborhood, I saw changes on my daughter personality. She lost her self-esteem, I took her out of school this year.
Praying for your family.
This was my story with my first child. I had no intentions of doing a c section then I got a c section because the epidural messed with my son’s heart beat. My exact story. I’m glad to still be here after 3 children. My husband was there to help and I’m grateful.
Yup they tried to pull that crap on me. I told them NOPE!
Same EXACT THING wi the me smh
Same happened to me..😢 my exact story with my son
Yeah it was the petocin for my wife
Wow this interview was a blessing. I learned so much. Protect this black man. He is the truth.
You are one sharp interviewer, and this is one hell of an interview! Thank you 🙏🏿
I definitely dont agree what a lot of what Umar says, but when he comes with facts he’s like a freight train(unstoppable). I respect an educated man period. Which is why I can’t completely let him go.
That's basically how I feel. I don't agree with him on everything, but when he's right, well darn it, he's right. If BP would just thoroughly listen to his words/message instead of automatically jumping to knock him , they would get it.
Same!
I agree with him 90 % of the time.
Oxytocin aka the Love Hormone is also a natural Uterotonic - a substance that causes a woman's uterus to CONTRACT n Labor - so the Epidural solves One problem - terrible pain which Intensifies stress & fera in the mother but Creates another - no contractions No birth
So let's explain this process as it normally occurs during Labor..... mother wants a natural child birth but mother & father have done nothing to actually Prepare for a natural child birth - usually b/c they are part of the largest population in America - the poor & working class - who have no time to prepare for a natural childbirth b/c both are working their ballz off just to make ends meet b/c in Murica the poor & working class are exploited, abused & terrorized every minute of every day of their adult lives by a Gov apparatus designed to grind them down
now this suffering is NOT limited to Blk people - but as Always in America - whatever the indignation heaped on to the poor & working class the Blk poor & working class get an Extra helping..... so it is very rare that a poor & working class couple of ANY race has the time, money or inclination to hire a qualified Doula
what is a Doula - a Doula is an Advocate for the mother to be who helps the mother plan for a healthy & safe child birth & communicates the game plan to the Medical team & they work together to ensure that plan occurs w/ pre-planning, practice & so on
a Doula is Diff from a Mid-wife in that a Mid-Wife is an expert at the Medical procedure of Delivery whereas a Doula provides the Mother to be And her family w/ emotional, physical & informational support during pregnancy, birth & post partum period & that can be a natural child birth of C section
this is very effective b/c the Doula can practice optimal birthing positions - on all 4's or squatting on haunches as one would defecate in the woods for lack of a better example. he Doula can prep the mother to be by explaining the cascading nature of events that take place during pregnancy so she is mentally & emotionally prepared
for example, even though the pain of child birth is horrendous a woman can still have a natural child birth free of epidural analgesics b/c during Natural Childbirth the woman's body builds up Natural occurring hormonal analgesics (analgesic just means pain reliver) called Beta-Endorphins that allow a woman Transcend the pain of Labor - if you've ever heard a woman describe as "In another World" or being in an "altered State" & not remembering the pain of Labor past a certain point - this is a direct result of these Beta-endorphins
Beta-endorphins also put a women in this state of near hypnosis b/c this altered state of consciousness allows her to instinctively work WITH her body during Labor to produce a Natural Child-birth...... Epidurals Also crash the body's production of Beta-endorphins
So most couples arrive at the Hospital in an emergency panic stricken mind set wanting a natural child birth but unprepared to make that happen.... So what happens instead is the already fearful & stressed woman begins to experience Labor pain and her anxiety level multiplies exponentially...... Stress causes Massive inflammatory response on the cellular level in the human body under the best of conditions but during Labor the Inflammatory response is Exponential
The woman tries to hold it together emotionally but Pain & Stress cause Much more damage than merely Emotional - suddenly b/c of the increased BP produced by the Stress & Fear produced by the Terrible Agony of Labor both the woman & the baby begin a Cascading effect of negative consequences caused by the Pain.... I already outlined the hormonal issues & the severe impact they have on the body but there are many others & instead of the mother reviewing the advice of the Doula standing beside her & breathing to lower her BP she goes into a panic state causing Doctors to prioritize pain relief & the Mom to be thinks this is a Great idea as she Screams for relief - Multiple times
So at this point Umar saying "you might wanna take it easy on those Epidurals while the Mom to be is out of her mind & in a trance from Pain - it's kind of Laughable...... So the mother gets the Epidural, all the predictable negative Labor events occur - w/ the Oxytocin levels crashed - the Labor is literally at a Stand Still
Oxytocin levels at the moment of Birth (Natural Child Birth) are the Highest a woman will experience in here LIFE
So the Doc orders a C-section - A) b/c it is the Safe & Medically Correct thing to do & B) b/c if the Doc fails to do a C section & something goes wrong he or she will be SUED into the poor house.....
this is an extremely common outcome and has NOTHING to do w/ the Race of the Mother & for Umar to pull this theory out his azz & throw it on the wall to see if anyone is foolish enough to believe it is really beneath a person of his intelligence & importance b/c it diminishes his credibility
Couples plan a pizza party w/ more determination & effort than child birth which is the seminal moment in their lives

Both of my sons, 1 hour in delivery. I didn't push when they said push, I followed what my grandmother told me. I sat up, stooped down on the bed holding the rails. I had a Grenadian Dr. He was trying to get me to do things that my grandmother said no too.
My sister's friend is a birthing nurse and she said they now make you lay on your back.
LOL, I bet the doc was livid. Control freaks in these doctor offices. Great job adhering to your Elder!!
@eve3363
Make you?
Nobody can make you do anything without force.
If we had about 12 of Dr Urmar across this country?....My GOD!... African-American, black people as a whole would be so inspired! What a impact!....it could be! Love this King's messages! Listen UP!
We only needed 1 Dr King to get the job done. Umar is mostly fake and doesn't really lead anything but his mouth. Until he is organizing and joining communities, he's no better than Al Sharpton.
Love to listen to this man speak. He hits the nail on the head every time✊🏽
He is the only one to listen to.
RITE ON!
No he does not hit the nail every time. That is Black people's problems. You are looking for a human savior. You Black people stay talking about religion, yet you deify Black politicians, revolutionists, and civil rights leaders all of the time!
Mic drop!!! Wow, I need to listen to this over and over again. Dr Umar left no stone unturned. Very informative and life changing. Thank you, Sir.❤

Dr Umar You are soooo on point in all the interviews I have watched. You have a deep insight and it is appreciated ❤️
What he says about the self esteem for black kids in a white school is 100000% correct. Happened to me, and as an adult I’m still trying to recover …

I LOVE THIS DISCUSSION, DR UMAR TRUTH TO POWER IS SO LIBERATING!
~BLESSINGS
The only push back I think I'll ever give Dr Umar is stance on moving out of the community.... I've personally watched someone get ridiculed and bullied their entire childhood while we grew up in East Orange, to the point of hating themselves, high anxiety, and suicidal thoughts from it. There is a difference between being teased and bullied and if you can't stop being treated terrible by your own people why do you need to still stay?
I moved my dark skin daughter out the "ghetto" who was being picked on by her own to a "white posh" area.. my daughter's never been more happy....
I see everyone in the comments talking about the beginning of the interview but if you watched the WHOLE THING? Whoa! An absolute masterclass and masterpiece. I feel better for having watched this and, I expect that I will rewatch this. Adding this to my “Mental Health Building” playlist for sure!
I always enjoy listening to Dr.Umar. He should have a much bigger platform for more of our people can glean from his knowledge.
Let's share share share
Invest in him like we do Nike, weaves and drugs

Well stated queen, we got this!
This guy makes me rethink my whole environment opening my mind outside the assigned box
I really love this man ! I wish nothing but success ❤

They did the same thing when my daughter was born. My wife was in labor 22hrs trying to deliver without meds. Finally couldn’t keep going and did epidermal. About 45 minutes later my daughters heart rate dropped and an emergency C-section was ordered.
Wow,,22 hrs was a pretty long labor. Bless her heart.

Dr. Umar's speaks truth. We give shit about the school but his knowledge is so important. I love how Black men know Black women's bodies. 🖤
Yes ❤
I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I'm sending you light and love 💜
Agreed
Same here 😮I grew up with the names tar baby, sand sketter, Olive oil.
