To be fair, not until recent did russians have much, if any, experience with their ships catching fire during war. The Pacific losses aren't discussed and the Western fleets were perfect able to float in harbor during WW2.
Well done. Wish WG would skew the rewards so that players were forced to support map/cap control instead of hoping to avoid the initial exchanges and farm later in the game. I realize subs have changed the dynamic but even you were left to your own devices when fighting for the most important zones of the map. At least your CV pitched in.

He called it the, "Ma-Hawn" F.Y.I. for future reference. He is in his 90s now, hunts Elk annually, and was a neat person. We floated down the famous Plattes River , me in a Kayak and him in an inner-tube. Cheers

I've won games in destroyers where the only thing I did was run around taking caps and recapping. Little to no damage but won the game for it.

Historically Kaga carried 90 aircraft... so that means... I got nothing.

The Mahan, just like the Benson... are both very, VERY good DDs!
I would say that MM was great for DD's especially Benson. No radar means easy approach and opposing CV spotting was rather ... not efficient in disabling Flam activities anyway.

I've never understood why Benson gets so much stick. I love it. Sure, it HP pool is quite weak, but the guns are pretty good, especially once you get used to the ballistics, the torps are slow but are fairly stealthy and the ships concealment is superb. It's even pretty fast. It's a really good balance of guns and torps. The first time I played the US DDs, Benson was the moment the line clicked with me. In fact, in terms of Tech Line US DDs, only Fletcher and the Clemson (Which is SO over powered for T4!!) are more fun.
Of course Flambass gave us a masterclass in DD play. Always on the objective, always aware.
i play the mahan quite regularly in operations and in that she's quite good as her torps mean that you always torps available as she has one midline and one torp tubes either side for three and with the benson torps is good for setting up torp runs.
For me having grinded every dd line to at least Tier 8. Most of the dd lines see a decent jump going into T8. Benson seems more a slight upgrade. But I think it is because you can finally stealth torp so you feel like you can be more impactful but since it's torps are so trash and then the Fletcher's torps are so much better it feels like a massive let down. But personally I think the US DD line is the ideal DD line to learn DD play.
I think it's because people still try to play Benson et al as gunboats, when realistically they've been pushed into more of a torpedo boat role. I gave up building for guns on Benson, Fletcher and Gearing and built for torpedoes instead, and had much more success with each of them.

I remember when the Benson was 'good.' Of course that was before they wrecked everything.
"Worlds Most Annoying Ship Captain"...hmm. there's another one, that when you sink a battleship, says "We sank a friendly destroyer!" and identifies incoming torpedoes as "Enemy Submarine spotted!" That one is the most annoying to me! (I jest, I love my Jingles captain!)
There's always a sense of surprise when I open up on the enemy with my Shima guns. Especially DDs. I come in blazing and they freeze trying to digest the need to evade my guns as well as my soon to arrive torp wall of skill. lol

The Mahan does have pretty bad stealth, but it has a monstrous DPM advantage over other destroyers in its tier. That alone makes it pretty good in my eyes.

More than half my kills with Japanese torp boats are gun kills. I've had DD drivers panic when an IJN DD goes brawly guns.

Good morning all...From the Salt Mines night shift. On another note I actually liked the Benson.
"Mahan", named after Admiral Alfred Thayer Mahan, has 2 common pronunciations: The arguably correct way to say it in English is "May-en/May-han", however, American dialects are as diverse as the people, so English loses "compatibility" as you cross county lines, let alone state lines... So, "Muh-hawn/Ma-hawn" are also common, yet moreso in Southern states or traditionally more rural ones, i.e. the central Mountain states (Wyoming, Dakotas, Montana, etc).

Honestly, The Mahan is a good ship. She has been power-crept by newer ships and the other destroyers in the line are more popular. The Clemson is OP, the Nicholas is decent, the Farragut is loved for some unknown reason, the Benson is really good, the Fletcher is the crown jewel of the line and the Gearing is Ok. I don't know why people crap on the Mahan, learn to play that ship well and you will have the skills to make the following ships terrors of the seven seas. #StopMahanHate

I give props to that CV, he outplayed the red CV by a fair margin - particularly early play that permitted the double-cap at the start. I think you're also selling the Mahan short - I mean, if you want to call it terrible, take a look at the detectability difference between, say, the Jervis and the Lightning. That's like night and day.
Whatever captains voice that is is still a million times less annoying than every Japanese anime characters voice that's in the game

I mean, the problem with most T7 DDs is they don't have access to the 5th equipment slot and that concealment system upgrade. The Mahan's base detection is only 250m more than the Benson. But it lacks that slot, so ends up a lot worse.
Destroyer concealment tends to climb up to 7, then drop again from 8. Which makes T7 DDs in general the worst concealed for their line. Then they go up against stealthy T8 DDs, and T8 &9 radar.

No, Starscream is the most annoying ship Captain followed closely by Bumblebee and the Statue of Liberty.
Yet- I still prefer to do battle in my Mahann with it's 3 torpedo launchers over the Bensons 2. I seem to score way more kills in the enemies I get put against, but as always- your mileage may vary!
Flambass has also noted on several occasions that CV's were supposedly modified so that they could no longer "cross drop" torpedoes... which you can clearly see happening here.

it was a kaga who lost that battle. why the heck was the kaga wasting time with torps and dive bombers vs that bensen. it's rocket planes are some of the better ones post rocket plane nerf and are quite effective against dds. it's not like the benson could have survived many of those rocket planes.

Small quibble about the Mahan's stealth: its base stealth is exactly the same as Benson's. The problem is that it doesn't get access to the stealth module that Benson can mount at tier 8. Also, its torpedo launchers feature one fewer tube apiece, and the upgraded torpedoes don't do nearly as much damage. The Benson's torpedoes are the same speed and have the same range, but they do something like 5k more damage when upgraded, which makes them slow but relatively lethal.

Play the objective. Damn, what, pay attention to the game and what you're supposed to do? Madness. Why would you play the objective? I'm new to Tanks [Jingles' other videos] but I try to apply what I've watched over the last several years. So, I play the objectives and promptly get my ass handed to me as the rest of the team "Lemming Trains" off into the sunset and dies. Then I'm stuck knowing there are 8 unspotted tanks hunting me so I kiss my ass goodbye. Here is a great, instructive video, a master class, and yet, no-one seems to bring that to the actual game. Thanks "son", and I am old enough to say that, for the lesson. I'll keep playing the objectives in the forlorn hope that in one game will pay off.

Lets hope the Dumb Submarine captains takes the lesson from this game and learn the importance of spotting , positioning, and map control..instead of steaming in enemy spawn to shot gun one bb which is their wet dream...
Then again they are submarine captains so what do I know about how Jellyfish survives without brian in the wild...

Speaking of captains, my disappointment knows no bounds that I can't have a jingles captain on any other ships but for the Royal Navy. They need to have multi-national jingles captains like john maclain.
