The colorism definitely exist within the Latin community not just our community.I remember in high school a peer of mine was reading this book about how this white man had a plan to turn dark skin African American women against Light Skin African American women,I can’t think of the individual name nor the book, but the fact that this is still a conversation is sad as a whole we have work to do we are much stronger together than apart🖤

Yes, colorism is present in all communities that experience strong variance. I saw a show expressing this in the Indian and middle eastern communities as well. It’s unfortunate bc it’s actually magical that we come in so many shades. Trying to drown out those differences is really a disservice to humanity.

33:55 Yes, the burnout is real. I learned this through my career working in public service. We can't save everyone, but trust that the work we do is appreciated by many. Do what you can, then do what makes you happy.

You two had an excellent discussion, with both dropping gems and sharing their life experiences. Those dead set on their ways are sad to say they are lost causes; I'm more worried about those subconsciously influenced by the media and other outlets, especially the youth. It will take a lot of effort to break the cycle when it comes to colorism.

Colorism is preferential treatment of someone due to their proximity to whiteness.

Thanks for this episode. I love the dynamic you have with your mom. I was born in Cameroon. We have the same problem. Colorism. The lighter ones are more popular than the darker ones. This is the legacy of colonialism. I live in France now. I encountered the same problem. black men think of being with a white woman. They feel they have succeeded. then it's not wrong because it opens the doors for them and for white people if the black person has been validated by theirs. that means he can access certain things.

This is a great conversation but I just have to add: @9:17 whatever scientist said that that the father carries the bloodline is inaccurate. -that was based in patriarchy. Ofc we are 50/50 but, The mother is the only one who can provide mitochondrial DNA (which controls a lot including our genetic, mental, and physical). Ofc that’s not to say that you don’t receive genes from your father that may have an effect of those area but MtDNA is used to trace ancestral lineage. If a woman has all boys that form of DNA as it pertains to her lineage is gone -her sons will get it but they won’t be able to pass it on. But if she has daughters it can still be passed from generations to come as long as there are always female children.

Not in the middle of Minnesota somewhere LOL. I'm from MN and watching. I'm mixed but I identify with my black side more because I wasn't raised around my white side. I have lighter skin and people sometimes don't like it or get it but like you mom said "they are small minded"

Being black isn’t about an experience it’s about what you look like. White people being in black culture doesn’t make them black just like biracials. Anyone can listen to black music or have a black friend but at the end of the day we know what black people look like, biracials look like, and white people look like. Not sure why being called biracial is so bad when 20 years ago no one wanted to be black. Y’all wouldn’t have identify issues or these problems if you just acknowledge you’re not only black. Your mom is obviously black though.

When we get on the topic of why the community treats color the way they do I feel it goes back to slavery and how when people could pass for white they did. I feel that it is a trauma that has never healed over time. Mama is correct about the ignorance. Bri you are a black woman and you say that every time you can. We do have people who use their proximity to whiteness as a weapon but I think as long as you don’t do that there is nothing wrong with being biracial.

Biblically, according to Numbers 1:18 Brii is middle eastern. Culturally, because she was raised by a black mom, grew up with black culture and customs. Culturally she is black. Genetically, she middle eastern. Now if she decides to have a child by a black man, her children will be black. Because according to the Bible the father Carry the seed
