    Looking forward to a machine walk over. Spindle, steppers etc. Also would love to see a more in-depth sort of lesson on tool path programming and tool selection etc. I have been on the PrintCNC discord but would rather focus on a single person and their machine. Yours does what i need out of one and that is cutting Ali like butter, if it does ALI, it will do carbon and wood with no effort. Thanks for this vid and responding to us and our interest. This channel as the potential to explode.

    We make aluminum aviation parts on a full blown machining center and we have almost the same pattern. It's obvious there is a difference in rigidity between your CNC router and our machine but I think the main reason for this surface pattern inconsistency is the ball screw quality and the stepper pulses. On machine like ours we have servo motor with encoder that split 1 turn(360 º) in 1/1,000,000 turn so almost no pulse and the ball screw pitch is way more faster(10mm per turn). But that said, your finish is very good for that type of machine👍.

    Great video, love the fact that you showed your Fusion CAM setup from beginning to the end. A video on how you align you X rails would be awesome. I did mine a while ago but remember it was a major pain. My X beam has a slight bow which made it quite difficult

    Would love to see a walkthrough of your machine, steel tubing sizes and thickness, what steppers, etc. I'm about to start my PrintNC build, 4x4 work area, and want as rigid as possible. Your machine looks dialed in.

      I’m in the process of making a video about some similar things, doing a brief rundown on scanning, getting the geometry from GOM in to Fusion then the CAD work to print.
      Then another video on verifying it all works and making it ✌️

    Hi..... Wow great to hear the audio it took it to another level and another very good video and thanks for sharing all your speeds and feeds secrets .I think you are right the 6082 would seem to give a much better shine than 6061 it would be interesting if you did a little back to back using some 6082 and 6061 to prove or disprove this I can't get 6082 otherwise I would do it many thanks Bill

      The 6082 certainly seems to hold the shine, there’s barely any 6061 available here but I’ll grab some soon for a test 😎

    You'll have the same problem I do, you're in the UK with an MDF base board and spoil board, it stays flat for about as long as it takes to surface it, the moment you turn around to stick a part on it, it's warped somewhere. I've finally had enough and will be changing my base board later this month and using MDF less for a spoil board.

      It’s an 18mm ply base with the MDF spoilboard - I haven’t had much problem with it really, I tend to need to machine both sides of things so parts either go in the vice after the first op or I do a quick skim of the MDF if it needs the faces to be as parallel as can be.
      I’ve got a little bit of ally on there at the moment that I faced relative to the machine because I did a run of parts, the tape was ripping the MDF up and causing issues keeping parts parallel… Ultimate goal is to do a complete ally base to use fixture plates on but I’ll likely end up with a VMC before I get around to it.

      @@Beeeaned I mostly cut thin sheet alu, day in day out, milling either side isn't needed as they are film coated and shiny both sides, the parts are formed and micrometer accuracy isn't critical. Same with the guys who mostly cut wood. I can skim the MDF bed as flat as a billiard table. Stick the next sheet of alu on it and I can i have 2mm difference depth corner to corner on really damp days. You're also right in the masking tape problem, I never understood how I see this so often. And yes a VMC is more applicable to the type of machining you're doing. Especially batching.

    Nice Machine. I'm in the process of building the same thing. would you mind sharing how you connected the X axis beam to the Y axis linear bearings? You do good work.

      I’ll include it when I do a walk around of the machine - I used the standard steel rollers at first but found it had a bit of flex (My gantry is 100x50x5 and the connection surface/bolt spacing wasn’t great) so I made a version of the milled pro rollers.

      Just a Vevor 3”, the 4” ones are probably a bit too big to be useful unless they’re sunk under the base board.

      Just some standard blue tape - Some people find 3M the best but I have no issues with Toolstation/Screwfix cheap home brand.

    Why a 2 degree bore?
    What’s the pitch of your ball screws?

      I know what you mean, but Fusion 360 has one of the best cam modules and it's free for personal use. That combination makes it hard to ignore.
      No the spiral ramping down is at 2 degree angle into the material. If you'd increase it, it would ramp down quicker with fewer full circles so to speak.

    The program and actual machining is interesting but why spend so much time admiring the "mirror finish". That is not what makes a good part.
