We make aluminum aviation parts on a full blown machining center and we have almost the same pattern. It's obvious there is a difference in rigidity between your CNC router and our machine but I think the main reason for this surface pattern inconsistency is the ball screw quality and the stepper pulses. On machine like ours we have servo motor with encoder that split 1 turn(360 º) in 1/1,000,000 turn so almost no pulse and the ball screw pitch is way more faster(10mm per turn). But that said, your finish is very good for that type of machine👍.

14:20 - your spindle ramp up time is longer than dwell time in CNC control software. it is not good. they must be at least equal otherwise it can cause too much load on the tool at a start.

Consider producing an MB W169 CVT gearbox. It’s not available anymore and it was so badly designed from the factory! Haven’t heard anyone NOT having issues!

I'm just getting my own CNC set up to be able to handle aluminum and I'm curious...Did you need an indexed spindle in order to do the threading pass? If so, did you DIY that on the spindle you have or did the spindle already have that feature when you bought it?

Why does the x axis sound like a machine gun

It doesn't sound like your spindle is up to speed before it starts the cut at: 14:25, do your controller read the spindle/VFD feedback speed and wait? I have the same issue and I a change in my postprocessor in fusion to add a M0 msg at all speed changes require user input to continue the operation when the VFD is at correct speed. Chatter is present. Lack of machine rigidity. My cast iron CNC bench mill with dove tails cuts 6061 aluminium very quiet like a butter. The deeper depth of cut the less chatter as all the flutes are continuously engaged with the material unlike when DOC is shallow.

The program and actual machining is interesting but why spend so much time admiring the "mirror finish". That is not what makes a good part.

Great video, on the other hand it's astonishing that in the times of advanced AI , 3d scanners/scans are mostly just a reference that still needs rather complicated process and couple of separate computer programs to transform the data into usable CAD and eventually a solid model
