I've said it for years and I'm still saying it now. Pilots and surgeons are gods gift to us all.
...it must be remembered that they F£$k up too....
Did you remember about pilot suicide while in flight and kill all ppl in the plane
Yes dear u r right
And soldiers too. Never forget about them.
@@SarikaAli-cw9xf no,,soldiers are following orders of their senior and they even kill innocent people for their country benefits,,they don't deserve to be in this list
For some reason , I love stories where insurmountable odds are beaten and everyone survives
We all do unusual stranger :)
but they don't say what the issue was in the first place in these shorts.. So we don't know what the odds are???
"For some reason" are you indicating you used to love stories where there are fatalities? Lmao
Underdog stories my friend
Had the pleasure of flying on a trip with Captain Sully (as a flight attendant). He truly was a very kind man and a true professional. His “Pre-Flight Briefings” with us were very thorough. When I found out he was the Captain of that flight I understood completely the success of that ditching. 👏👍🙏❤️
Airline passengers would always be very fortunate to have pilots like Captain "Sully," those who have served as military pilots.
A hero pilot
@@heleneg525 more lucky with glider pilots, which is a skill set of his that came in handy that day
I'm literally so jealous
I wouldn’t be so scared of flying if I knew he was the captain. Unfortunately he’s retired so I’ll never have the pleasure of that. He’s definitely one of the best in the field.
Taca 110 FA:” it was sooooo smooth”
Video: shows plane inside heavily rocking and shaking.
fr tho
It’s sarcasm
And adrenaline
Narrator: "..He needs to make a sudden and dramatic course correction"
Captain: oh i just did a lil sideslip no biggie
That's not an actual video of the event. SMH. The witness was actually there.
"Everyone survives." What a wholesome video.
Haha
Everyone but those birds at the end :(
only birds died
also (kinda) RIP plane
Yes
Dont forget the Air Canada Flight 143! The Gimli Glider - Ran out of fuel, landed on an old base turned dragstrip, no major injuries or deaths, plane stayed in service with AC until January 2008
Wow
Ah yes. The drifting plane
(side slip I believe is the move called?)
@@nightmareflame101 Yes
The problem with that one is that that crash was also due to pilot error.
@@Alb410 Maybe. But not everything was their fault. 1.) At the time of the accident Canada changed their metric system from pounds (feet, etc.) to kilograms (m, cm, etc.). Flight 143 was one of the first, maybe even the first plane to receive fuel in kilograms instead of pounds. And that's where the first error happened. Instead of x kg of fuel, it got x pounds of fuel and since pound is around half of kilogram, they only got half of the fuel they needed. 2) Second error happened in the software of the plane. A plastic was covering one of the components on the motherboard that was suppose to tell the pilots that they don't have enough fuel, but since it was covered and wasn't working properly, it didn't. Yes, the pilots checked the papers with the fuel to make sure it's ok, but on paper it was! They had no idea that they only had half of the fuel.
Still, praise to the captain for bringing the plane back to ground safely.
We cannot imagine how skilled these people are.

He meant by landing smooth is because it is technically a smooth landing cuz they are landing on grass not a runway :p

It would be great if Smithsonian uploads full documentaries. At least on this dedicated channel.

A big salute to all those who showed courage during these incidents!!!
It's quite rare for pilots and cabin crew to throw their hands in the air and cry during these incidents.

Captain Dardano from the TACA flight lost an eye in the Salvadoran Civil War and CONTINUED TO FLY after it. What a madlad
MADLADD WOW
Well it didn't loose the eye complete just it can't see with it but yeah loose vision of one Eye sounds more accurate
Yeah - plus he was always calm. That man, along with the test pilot who looked at the plane with its wrecked engines and said "Eh, just put some new ones on and I'll just fly it from here" can fly me anywhere.
I was able to find his IG page and told me that the two crew members whom was with him on the flight sadly passed away. It's amazing how he was able to land it intact on the levee and then have it back in service for decades.
@@aleksandrrozentsvit8390 oh. That's sad.
It's fascinating to me how Pilots remain so calm in an emergency situation. They just like WOW
It's either life or possible death. Panic wouldnt help.
Training, training, and more training. And also more training. Get your panic and meltdowns out if the way on the ground, in the SIM, looong before you ever have peoples' lives in your hands. Individual temperment also comes into play. People in control (military or civil) generally don't let hot-headed or highly-anxious people into the training programs.

This is exactly the type of video I was looking for. I love watching "Why Planes Crash" because they approach the investigation in such a powerful manner; they're always looking to learn from the crashes. However, I was getting really sad and discouraged when I ran into a stream of episodes where everyone dies. This is amazing!
...If only all investigations could be approached from a "what can we learn?" and "how can we change?" what a world we would live in.
It brings me to tears on seeing how much the pilot has worked to avoid a crash. The fear of dying, resolve, and relief that they've survived is so touching to me. Especially when the percentage of surviving a plane crash is low
Now I know how avengers would look like in real life. These pilots are the real super heroes.
And doctors too
@@Vaderist. shut up
I love the laughing from the cockpit crew at 3:37
I know it’s a reenactment but u gotta know the real crew did the same thing. What a great feeling it must be!
I really want to become a pilot when I grow up. I watch these videos because when emergencies happen I can do my best to save my crew, passengers and aircraft.
You will learn it all when you are into formation. Don't worry!
What an awesome goal! Stay focused, and you’ll get there! Best of luck! I’m sure you’ll make a great pilot!
@@-_deploy_- um...if he's joining the blue angels maybe...something tells me he means commercial flying which is most definitely NOT formation
@@chrismacbean What? All types of aviation need trainning for ALL types of emergency. That is how the pilots avoid or deal with problems, they don't figure it out in the momment.
That's actually really scary but i enjoy watching these vids 😂 idk y. Am I the only one weird who is scared as well enjoying??
I thought I was the only one glad to know someone else likes these kinds of videos too! I’ve always had a fascination with planes and aviation accidents
Are you scared to get in a car ? Because you’re more likely to die in a car then a plane.

Practically how Ryanair lands their planes
LOL
And wizz🤣 8 always go on Ryanair lol
I love their tik tok account tho
Funny 😐
Been on Ryanair countless times. Never experienced anything but professionalism and smooth landings.
Personally, I think that the TACA airlines flight 110 would be considered as the "original Sully" (happened in 1988) since it was a miracle.
Look up flight 411. After you heard about it think again.
What the video doesn't tell you was TACA landed on a levee next to a NASA facility, they acutally towed the aircraft up onto a road that was an old runway, changed the damaged engine, fueled it and flew it to MSY field for further repairs, the airplane stayed in service until 2016!
These pilots are amazing. If I died aboard one of these flights, I'd say my life was well-lived.
The acting by the older guys in flight 85 was honestly the best.
@ANESU DYLAN MUNYIKA well, the aircraft scenes are since no one recorded it.
Captain Sully is a personal hero of mine, it takes pure skill to land a fully laden aircraft on a river without suffering major structural damage or without seriously injuring any passengers.
44 of the 155 were seriously injured
I had my fingers crossed, and breathed a sigh of relief with everyone of these clips, even though I already knew no people were lost.
I just paused the video to hit the like button to salute the efforts of the Pilots. You guys own my respect

1st clip: “Prrrrfecto!” 👌
Hurricane Hugo clip: “They lost an engine. They plan to punch through the storm. They did it. The end.”
I’d like more episodes where EVERYONE SURVIVES.
Can u see the the passengers happiness as they have survived it is the highlight.
Thank you for this great upload. 👍
“Where everyone survives”
The goose:
We had one in Greece back in the late 70s if I know, I wasn't born yet. The captain's name was Migadis. He was flyj g a jumbo for the Olympic airlines from Athens to New York. Lost the engines, lost altitude and managed to keep it airborne in 63 feet and under. It literally flew among flat complexes. This Boeing was considered compromised. Everyone lived.
And then they have to catch another flight home, can't imagine the fear
This just shows you how skilled our Pilots are and how they do everything they can to make sure every body survives.
31:47 The guy in full SCUBA gear jumping out of the helicopter. Wow, the NYPD is intense.
14:58 yes, that is where the gangways goes xD
Lol
You have to give credit to these amazing captains!!!! I pray every flight my pilot is knowledgeable with amazing survival skills! I love videos that end with “Everyone survived”!!! 👌🏾🥰🥰🥰
Should link all of these videos to their full-length versions.
I love when the passenger and the crew just happy, laughing, joking it's so wholesome
Just love the happy ending, some of these captains are flying these planes like a boss.
the happiness on their faces when they realised everyone is safe and they made it omg
Man, I'm grateful that I haven't flown in a jet like those featured in here, honestly I don't know what would I experience personally in one of those flights.
Let's not forget Alistair Atchison who was able to land BA flight 5930 all by himself after the windscreen blew off and the captain was sucked out thru the hole. No-one died, not even Captain Tim Lancaster who miraculously survived his ordeal.
14:58 the jetbridge attached to the windows 😂

The landing on the levie was incredible. Easily up there with the best.

I think you are telling lie just for sympathy and likes there was not a single Indian nationality passenger on board and you are an indian
Nice lie
I am so sorry for your loss...💔
God bless these pilots..They saved everones life..smart thinking..
That you Smithsonian for this channel. I find the programming very interesting.
I needed to see this, as we start the New Year. I needed a reminder that it's not all bad.
These are the moments I can imagine the Pilots getting a Lottery Ticket and a drink afterwards
the pilots in all cases cared more about the life of the passengers instead of theirs.
in no 3, the pilots knew they could die but they put passengers in first priority like wow. god bless them, sacrificing their life for others
This video is PURE JOY! ❤️❤️
Great respect for all these badass pilots. Not only are they the most likely to be killed in a crash. They also do everything they can to ensure the survival of their passengers.

I am from Poland. And I must say that those crashes remind me of how cpt. Tadeusz Wrona and his copilot landed 767 without gear.

No injuries were reported among the 440 passengers and 29 crew on board the plane. On Batam Island, some debris fell on a school, some houses, and a car.

Ryanair pilots:if the thing doesn't say stall or pull up we are landing pro lol
"How many concussions did we cause?"
"Fuck only 4? 8 less than yesterdays flight!"
These heroes = Makes us Future Pilots
Really heroic actions of the captain and the second pilot...Cold-blooded they evacuated everybody then the captain ordered the second pilot to leave and only then the captain left under the risk to explode with the plane!!!
Finally! Bc those other crash videos were triggering 😩 idk why I do this to myself 😤
No Gimli Glider? That was more amazing than most of these.

No way the TACA flight was much better than gimli landing on a bank in a storm with the captain having 1 eye and the landing gear staying intact thats much cooler

Technically, investigation of Cathay pacific 780 that in that plane, the fuel was contaminated. Thankfully, they were about to touch the ground, if they were above flying. Then they would have crashed
"A little disconcerting"?! Talk about understatement of the year!
