The problem here is people not knowing the value of writing, and amateur venture capitalism. If you work as a writer, then you also realise that these people don't know or care what good writing is, so when you see a shitty contract, you do a shitty job, cos they can't tell the difference.

Any Rabbit name-taged "Toast" get a special skin, its an homage to fans dead pet rabbit who died recently around the time they were developing Rabbits into the game. Makes the rabbit look like that person's rabbit.
Killer Rabbits spawn (or used to) very rarely, they are a reference to Monty Python and are an aggressive very high dmg dealing rabbits, they can easily kill you.
The joke is still a pile of dog scat but at least it's definitely a Minecraft inside joke, I guess...

Since reading this novel I have seen the face of God and achieved Nirvana. My charisma and comedy skills have increased ten-thousandfold. I now have an IQ of 1.4x10^32. The universe simply bends to my will.
When I first purchased this book, the era when I was mortal, I foolishly had not expected much. However, when I sat down in my 8th grade English class, and read the first joke, my mind became one with the Universe. My eyes went glazed, and every female in the classroom turned to me, as they smelled the greatness of my genetics and male pheromones through the air.
The teacher turned to me and asked if I had something to say. I simply read the joke that I saw first when opening a random page.

These mere mortals, not reading the words on paper, missed out on the joke’s elegance and humor. Until, I heard a kid next to me laugh out loud, producing sound waves at a frequency of 790 Hz exactly. I turn, looking for the genius in the classroom who can grasp such humor. The kid?

Yeah, you could either somehow get close enough to it to hit it with the sword, which would be pretty difficult and unreliable, or you could use the main mechanic of ghast combat and hit it's fireballs back with your sword, which is how you're supposed to kill them without a bow.

In Minecraft 1.8, rabbits were added along with a killer bunny that had a small chance to spawn. There was also an Easter egg where naming your rabbit toast would make it passive and apply a different skin to it. This Easter egg was a reference to a worker at mojang's rabbit, named Toast, who unfortunately passed away.

New drinking game: every time the jokes punchline has nothing to do with minecraft, take a shot
I know this video is a few months old, but I don't see any explanation for that killer bunny/toast "joke", so I thought I'd take a crack at it.
One: Back when rabbits were first introduced, the developers were inspired by Monty Python to include a "Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog". It was a rare, white rabbit with glowing red eyes that would attack the player and could easily kill you if you didn't have armor. They're still in the game today, but they won't spawn naturally, you have to use commands to get one.
Two: Also back when rabbits were first introduced, there was some member of the community who's pet rabbit, named "Toast", had died. As a way of memorializing Toast, they put in this thing in the game where, if you name a rabbit "Toast", it will change the rabbit's coloration to mimic what the real life Toast looked like. This is still in the game today.
The thing is, if you name a killer rabbit "Toast", it will lose its glowing red eyes, but will still be aggressive.

There was a bug in which Toast would overwrite the killer bunny data so naming the killer bunny Toast would turn it into just a normal bunny and it would stop being aggressive. That was patched pretty quickly though.

What happened when the creators tried to publish this book?
They were rejected after several hours, nay, DAYS of creating this, THIS "BOOK". They then went to publish it themselves in fear of not making that sweet, sweet corporate green. However, when creating this book, they lost all of their pounds and money due to the people not being idiots and knowing that this is a piece of crap. In a desperate attempt, they decided to put it at half-price, but to no avail. The damage has already been done. They decided to use "what a noob" to try and bring the quote-on-quote "second book" back to life. The Hollow family then decided that this was a failed project, except for their mum. The Hollow family tried to warn her that it was a failure, but she didn't listen. She kept pushing for it to be published, and in her insanity went to murder her husband. With no one else helping her, she applied insanity, nonsense, and idiocy for her jokes. By then, everyone had made the public vote to burn the Hollow family's house down. The mum saw an ominous glow in the distance, and tried to shoot them down, but failed miserably because she hasn't eaten in 15 weeks (therefore losing balance and loss of use of the brain stem. Thinking that it will help, she decided to throw her monstrosity of a book at the mob, but it was too late. The house was burning down, and by the time the fire reached her room, she was hopelessly trapped. Her last dying words were, "DESTROYED!"

I believe that when naming a rabbit “Toast” it automatically changes its attributes to that of the same brown rabbit that Notch’s wife had on her Minecraft world. This make the killer rabbit no longer aggressive. (I think, I haven’t tested this.)
Still, this is the least funny book I’ve ever seen.

I said in a reply to a comment with that quote that Larry was partially correct in that entertainment is random. I never said it was always good since random or any form of hypothetical randomly generated entertainment tends to vary in quality. The joke book is a prime example of random entertainment that is not good. Why do I say it is random? The jokes seem poorly thought out, almost like they were thought of in a manner of second, and that may explain why many of the jokes aren't (apparently) related to Minecraft.
Just because it is unexpected does not mean it funny.

In the 1.8 Minecraft update , some mobs were added, including a bunny and rare ‘killer’ bunny with a unique texture. A killer bunny was a dangerous mob that could kill players pretty fast. The developer dinnerbone(a mojang designer) decided that if a killer bunny was named toast, something interesting would happen. The bunny would become peaceful and change to a unique texture. A fan’s bunny had died and the Nametag Easter egg was a reference to that bunny and it’s design.
So yeah, I used to play to much Minecraft.
One more fun fact: the killer bunny itself is actually a reference to Monty python and the holy grail.

Toast was the name of someone's lost rabbit (I forgot the specifics of who that person is) so as a memoriam Mojang put an easter egg where if you named a rabbit Toast with an item called the name tag, it will change colour to the colour the rabbit had.

Well they made money off it, and I'm assuming they had absolutely zero taste and integrity.
What does integrity matter if it can't feed them or get them an education. Personally I've been fortunate to have a lot of support when I was young and that has put me in a good position. I'm not saying that's the case here, but I know people who have abandoned their integrity to fund their education for example. I wouldn't do it, but I get why they did it. Just having to write this book seems like such a mind numbing task that I think you would have to be at least a little desperate for money to write it. Of course nothing of this exempts it from critique. On the contrary it's almost more of a reason to critique the material.

The killer bunny joke:
Killer bunnies can only be spawned via commands and they have a special skin, white with vertical red eyes (all other rabbits have horizontal eyes)
Renaming a bunny "Toast" gives it a special skin.
What makes this joke entirely unfunny is that renaming a killer bunny Toast doesn't make it a normal bunny according to the wiki.

The "joke" about the killer rabbit name toast is about two features that has since been removed from the game one was a rare variant of the rabbit that was aggressive and could kill you (it Also had a unique texture ) and the second is that by naming a rabbit toast it would give him a unique texture that could not spawn naturally and if you were to rename a killer rabbit toast he wouldn't try to kill you anymore. It's not a funny joke but that's probably the most research one of the books judging from what I see so far.

8:08 It's actually a little known Minecraft mechanic that if you name a rabbit Toast, it becomes the special black and white Toast rabbit. It does work on the killer bunny, making it the passive Toast rabbit but this joke proves the writers had at least some deep understanding of the game, making every joke way worse. It shows it wasn't ignorance of the game that made this waste of paper, but downright laziness and bad taste.

Regarding the killer bunny joke that you needed an explanation for, back in Minecraft version 1.8, bunny's were added to the game along with a secret bunny called the killer bunny. The killer bunny had a 1 in 10000 chance to spawn instead of a normal bunny. It was hostile toward the player and dealt a lot of damage to the point that if you saw one and weren't prepared and couldnt run you would almost always die. It was white with dark red eyes and was a reference to a movie I forgot the name of. The 1 in 10000 chance to spawn normally was removed in version 1.9 and can only be spawned in now by hacking. The only way to stop a killer bunny is to use a name tag to name the bunny toast, thus the joke. It's not really a joke as it just states what you need to do to pacify the bunny.

I haven't played minecraft in ages, but I think naming a rabbit toast will revert it to a black and white rabbit whose behavior will be the same as a normal rabbit.

Killer rabbits stopped spawning naturally ages ago, back in the 1.8 snapshots (18 August 2014); you can only get them via commands in the Java version, but not the Bedrock version.
You can also name a rabbit "Toast" (using a Name Tag) to change it to a different skin, a reference to one player's girlfriend's missing pet rabbit.
So theoretically you could rename a killer bunny "Toast" to stop it from attacking you, but I don't know if that actually works in practice.
For the toast one:
the story goes the a guy who worked at mojang (not sure if he still does) whos girlfriend had a bunny that went missing and never found. So he implemented a special texture (witch activates when naming a bunny toast ingame) that looked like that bunny as a memorial....

Rabbits used to have a chance to spawn as the White rabbit from Monty Python. It's a white rabbit that can nearly one hit players.
If you name a rabbit toast it changes it's texture to look like some kid's rabbit named toast.
Since the texture changed it is no longer the white rabbit, and stops killing players.
