I did my own mod of this cabinet, I modified the joysticks swapping it to a traditional setup, exchanged the screen board by the Owootecc NT68676 (luckily it worked) and added my pi to the cabinet, with batocera and sinden lightguns. The screen swap made a huge difference, looks like a new cabinet now. Thanks once again!
The stool didn't fix the issue, although it improved a bit. Bought a Dell monitor, followed your instructions and the difference is astonishing. The viewing angles are much better with no noticeable fade out. It's not as good as the BOE monitor in my Defender partycade, but seems on par with my Star Wars cab. This is what they should have shipped with. Considering the sheer number or Legacy cabs that have garbage monitors, it's evident that Arcade 1up won't do anything about it. So we have to do it ourselves. The Dell is inexpensive and basically a drop in replacement. Get it while you can.
I have two reasons to do this change: (1) there is dirt under the glass of my cabinet and (2) I anyways plan to add a converter for the HDMI and connect a cheap Atari 50 year console with many more games and wireless controllers into the cabinet. since I can't add ROMs to the Centipede, this should be the easiest way.
Great video thanks! I’m wanting the MK 30 but have held my purchase back due to the monitor issue. It was nice seeing exactly what I’m in for if I choose to get it and upgrade the monitor. Doesn’t seem too bad.
Thanks for the video, very insightful. I found a pacman arcade 1up,I assume and older version, but it didn't have a monitor. It has a small motherboard with it and the ribbon that does from the buttons to the said motherboard but other than that everything else is missing. I really want to try and get it working and build my own cabinet. Yours was the closest video I could find but I still think I'm missing a cord and maybe another motherboard. Do you recommend a site that shows it all or could this be a lost cause?
@@dedbattery Sounds like just the monitor is missing. If you have the control panel, ribbon cable, and a small board in a metal case, then you could maybe find a monitor on eBay.
@DannyWelch I looked at some other videos and it looks like it's the motherboard that goes between the button panel and the original screen, and the original screen had another motherboard on the back of it. Sorry if I'm not using the correct lingo this is the first time I'm attempting an actual arcade machine so this I felt like was an easy first step for me. There's definitely a cable that is missing between this board and the monitor and I'm not too sure if I understand how the monitor goes to it yet.
If you're six feet tall, it makes a huge impact on play. Once I walk up on it, I can see fade out. I guess I'm a couple of inches too tall. I got a stool for the cab to see if that helps. If it doesn't then I'm off to get a new monitor.
Thanks for this video. I had it on as I did the mod to my new cabinet last night, was very handy. Regarding a comment you made in the video, putting the last side panel on, yes that is annoying hah, trying to remove all specs of dust when changing the monitor is just as bad though :D
I'm about to swap this out for my Marvel versus Capcom 2 cabinet because of the millisecond response time. Since it is a different aspect ratio will that matter.
@@DannyWelch I knew it. It’s like step 1. Actually come to think of it, after you put together an arcade, the last page of the instruction book should also say congrats now go get yourself a miller lite.
It technically works, but in my testing it doesn't look good when viewed from the sides in vertical cabinets. That kept me from picking up the Dig Dug or Pacmania cabinets.

Quick question…im trying to purchase this monitor but I finding some selling it as a dell e1715se…but the box says it’s a dell e1715s…is that still the same monitor?
I have some questions: The Dell E1715s is listed online as a TN Panel. I thought that video was claiming that it is a BOE monitor, but this may be referring to other Aracade1up monitors. Is the Dell better than Aracade1up? Dell says that E1715s has a 5:4 aspect ratio. I thought that the Aracade1ups had a 4:3 aspect ratio? Will this work in my Atari 10 game cabinet? My display is malfunctioning. I saw an E170Sb for sale that seemed to have the same specifications as the E1715s. Should I stick with the E1715s?
It is not a replacement for the BOE. As you noted, it is 5:4, which was the ratio used in a handful of A1Ups (Atari Legacy Centipede, Midway Legacy MK and Joust, Dig Dug, and Super Pac Man). If you need a replacement for any 4:3 cabinet, I would try to get a BOE.
@@DannyWelch I haven't yet found the official size and resolution of the Atari 12-in-1 arcade, but I did a crude measurement and got roughly 10.75 x 13.125, which is roughly 4:5. That works out to be about 17.1 inches. I'm going to see if I can find the official dimensions.
Just picked up a 1up Centipede in the sale and picked up a e1715 for this exact reason. You have another video for the BOE monitor that has better blacks but doesn't fit as neatly. Is there any way you could adjust the e1715 settings for better contrast/brightness before you install or are the monitor settings parts removed in the transplant so to speak?
Only the panel is swapped, so the settings wouldn’t follow (unfortunately). There’s a chance someone will develop an add-on board. I bought one for my 1st gen Galaga.
I just built my Centipede yesterday, very unhappy with the monitor. I’m not one who usually complains about the quality of the controls or screens in A1Ups, but this screen is noticeably washed out. If I had been smart I would have followed this video and replaced the monitor before assembling the cabinet. This cabinet was a real struggle to assemble and the idea of even partially reopening it is not something I want to do. Plus it’s still going to be a horizontal monitor in a Centipede cab. 🙁
So my mk 30 anniversary comes tomorrow your saying if im playing on it it’s completely fine right? Only if looking at from a distance or if its next to other cabinets which i dont have. Just making sure what you said. Thanks
That’s hard to say as everyone has a different opinion, but it isn’t bad straight on unless you’re really tall. I’m 6’3”, so there is color fade with the stock monitor for me. With the Dell replacement, it’s flawless.
@@DannyWelch it’s driving me nuts! I’ve plugged in multiple speakers and none of them work so I know it’s not that. Everything is plugged in tight. Do you know which wire has a direct effect on sound?
