Hey, me again - finally got around to doing the replacement today and it looks phenomenal. 100x better than the stock panel. The monitor only cost me £25. Thanks SO much for taking the time and spending the money in doing this research. It's really appreciated. You're a true knight of the realm.
Thank you for this video. I got the exact monitor and just completed the replacement. Easy peezy. I greatly appreciate you making this video sir. I now feel like my cabinet is complete.
Just purchased that monitor & inverter board. will build the cab soon. Thanks again for help identifying my issue with brand new T2 with no working light gun. Arcade1up sent a a new control deck. (guess they don't stock the usb board itself) the ebay seller promptly refunded the cost which came to $69 with shipping. Surprises me how many of these things slip past Acade1up's quality control before they ship them out.
This solution has put the Centipede back on the ‘must buy’ list for me. Thanks!!! Frustrated that Arcade1up is making us have to do this but I’d rather have some solutions than none.
I just completed the swap. It looks sooo much better!! Thank you !! Seriously people it’s a big improvement. The way it should’ve come stock. Shame on arcade 1up for that half ass screen.
Thanks Fox. Just installed it per your instructions and it works like a charm and looks fantastic! I hadn’t seen it with the stock monitor because after hearing about the issues I didn’t want to even risk putting the cabinet together with the stock. I do have the Centipede Legacy with the stock monitor and I can live with it on that since I already put it together and it’s all vintage games anyway so crappy screen is almost period accurate. So thanks again. Very happy with my cabinet now.
Just did this and luckily found a e1715s for 30 plus shipping on Mercari! Just on all my cabs I just started puting the two side bezel screws in that way I can get to the monitor without laying these things down or whatnot. Thanks for the excellent walkthrough! :)
Good work! It's better for sure, but the Dell E1715S is still a TN panel (same type of panel as the MK30th cab). However, it is a higher quality TN panel: not as good as an IPS panel, but the colors shift is less aggressive and the colors inversion side is from the bottom instead of the right (which is better with two player at the same time).
You can def see the color inversion from the bottom-up angle in the video. If there's going to be 1 bad angle, that's the angle to be bad. Maybe top-down, if you can resign yourself to always using a stool. But with how small these are, and how 2 players need to stand apart, bad side angles is pretty much a deal breaker, and the stock 30th monitor does just that.
I am really trying to avoid the Dell E1715S at this point because I feel like there's still better options. Even if other options aren't exactly plug & play I have no problem using the ccfl if needed. I've looked into the 1707fpt with no luck. So, now I would like to try to locate a suitable IPS panel. Would you have a recommendation for a IPS monitor as an upgrade?
Hello ..and Great Video .. I was just wondering is it’s possible to up grade an countercade Mortal Kombat 2 player 8” screen to perhaps a 12-14” IPS screen using an oldie IBM Laptop screen as replacement ? ( and Yes ..I will have to fabricate wider Cabinet too to fit screen ) Thx
Great video, concise but thorough at the same time. I personally think the $499 price point is fair for this cab, monitor issues and all. $550 all-in to correct the monitor seems reasonable to me with how good the rest of it is, it's stunning to look at and the games list/features are great. I might grab the monitor now and wait for a $399 sale 👍.
Great work man and it looks crisp! I got the Dell 20" FP2007 monitor to eventually install on my Dell SFF PC modded custom 4 player Arcade1up Space Invaders cabinet. I can't wait to get to that project, but I do have more important life things to deal with at the moment, that I need to take care of.
Do not attempt this mod when the power cable is attached. If you’re talking about the small board inside the monitor housing that powers the backlight, you can find replacements on Amazon.
It's when I connected everything together it happened the inverter itself overheat. What kind of dc adapter is required to power everything? Raspi screen etc
Nicely done. This is something I've definitely been debating doing. I still haven't put the cabinet together yet to see how much the screen bothers me but I feel confident that I will still want to swap it.

Well, there's no way around it. It's what we HAVE to do in order to get what Arcade1up SHOULD have done in the first place. It sucks that we have to spend more money on top of the over half grand we spent on these cabinets to make them right. Frankly, not that they ever will, but Arcade1up SHOULD offer those customers who request one, a BOE monitor replacement, even if it has to be sold to the customer. That's what should've been installed, as expensive as these cabinets are. I can understand a crappy TN going into a countercade, but not anything that costs more than $350. As soon as I can save up some MORE money for my black hole of a Centipede Legacy cab, I'll be ordering the Dell E1715S monitor. Thanks for sharing this.
You kinda skipped the install part of the video. We didn't get to see what orientation of the LVDS goes in or the led driver board and ground screw. THX for the info.
Would be awesome if any of the Dell 19" monitors were as easy to direct swap. The P1917S and the E196FP come to mind. Does it matter if they're TN or IPS, though? Seems most of the 19" options are IPS, whereas the E1715S is TN. Wouldn't the determinants just be aspect ratio and be LED backlit? Or would the connector on the ribbon cable change between those 2 panel types? I guess if it did that would wind up being a Geekworm situation. which while not a deal breaker, means it's no longer a plug-n-play swap.
Thanks KFox! Should we do this to our cabs you ask? We always have the choice. I personally will change mine out. Thanks again appreciate your support.
HOnestly I'm not sure why not in the first place but I think after seeing something like this and the time put in its safe to say give the consumer BOE and nothing short of the best! Its still a 4:3 giving the view from the nostalgic look!

But now after trying to connect to hdmi board I have a white screen. Could this be a problem on the hdmi converter or could the problem be where the connection from new screen to old cable? Hello my friend, I just made a review for my MK cabs on my channel and I hope it’s ok that I posted a link to this video specifically in the description as it was the one I used to purchase and install the monitor. If you want it taken off my video then no problem. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for this. It helped me a lot. There are some more steps you could have shown that I found out watching another video. I'm also not sure why you removed the card from the old case? It's not necessary to do that.
I have the 30th anniversary cab, and I’m not as concerned about the side view so much as how pixelated the screen looks. I’m wondering if it is possible to get the high definition screen to portray the graphics as nicely as an old CRT screen? People keep saying it’s about scanlines, which I turned on in the options but it doesn’t look as good still. Any advice?
Is it me or did the bottom up start to look bad? So, if you were to put it into a vertical cabinet, the bottom would be the left or right side… So for a 4 player cabinet, this wouldn’t look good for one side (left or right)… Or is it just me and what I saw? Thanks
Hello, but having a modified taxi with Raspberry is it possible to directly connect a monitor or a 4:3 TV with the HDMI cable?what problems could I have ?Unfortunately, the original monitor broke
@@ribiflibi i did not see any difference standing in front of it until i stepped to the side a little bit and could really notice the difference , after watching this video i looked side to side and could see washout and it was only 50 bucks on ebay for the other monitor so I said why not and I still have the original monitor for back up !
I'm curious, is there a 20" monitor with led backlight that you could use a similar method with and connect directly via LVDS instead of going through the geekworm adapter (which could introduce lag? I'm not sure if anyone has confirmed what the latency on these are). I understand mounting the 20" monitor would be slightly different, but would love to see a video on this if it's possible
I have a 19" Dell 4x3 monitor. I'd like to connect it to my Arcade1Up Dragon's Lair cab as secondary monitor. I'm told connecting it from Dell's VGA port to Arcade1Ups USB port won't work. What do I need to make this happen if at all possible?
According some info I've gathered the Dell E1715S is still a TN panel which is the same type of panel as the MK30th. Does anyone know if there's any good BOE pc monitors that could be a replacement?
KFox, I just did this mod on my MK30th based on your video using the exact, Dell monitor you recommended ($99 new), and it looks SOOOO much better than the stock monitor. Thank you for this! Funny thing, though... if you look carefully, this Dell monitor is made by AUO, and has the exact, same model number as the one included in MK30th! I can see the model in your video (4:27), and sure enough, these are all the same AUOs... I have no idea how they're so different than the A1U version (maybe the LED lighting instead of CCFL?), but it's night and day. The stock one is borderline unplayable!
Will this work with other Arcade1up cabinets?! Final fight, Street fighter 2, TMNT, Simpsons etc?? thanks so much.. I got a Final Fight cabinet for free because it won't power on! I'm 95% sure its the factory monitor. I would love to buy one of these, IF it will fit. Any input would be awesome! thanks for the video!
I just (accidentally) updated my cabinet with the E1715SE, when intending to use the E1715S. In my comparisons, the E1715SE model does indeed work - and the blacks (and overall image) look great. However, there appears to be some added input lag (if you're sensitive to it). I did a side by side comparison, and it's noticeable with this new monitor. I'm chalking it up to the 75hz factor of the E1715SE, since the cabinet will be outputting 60hz while the E1715SE is native 75hz. A slightly increased input lag is common when a display is asked to refresh at a rate that isn't native to the device. It's still very playable, but if you're playing MK against others - you're going to be at a bit of a disadvantage. Nothing major, but it's there.
Now that this video is 1 year old, and your bff's over at Unico have made a replacement monitor 17" for A1up and mvsx, do you still think this Dell is the way to go or is it Unico?
Can you show how plug the wire because i try m'y killer instinct screen and the screen only flash and the wire are the same so i dont understand how can plug the pc screen . Thank a lot
Thanks for video Fox. I would have liked to see some game play. Looked up monitor and is no longer available new for that price. Seen used for $75 grade A. Puts me on the fence now, but I did get my MK30TH for $400. So......
@19kfox Hey Fox, would a 17" BOE monitor from the Ms. Pac-Man Partycade work in the MK30th, Pac-Mania, or Golden Tee 3D cabinets? Would it be plug and play?
@@19kfox I am going to be doing a monitor upgrade for Big Buck Hunter and replacing it with a 20" Dell. Would the A1Up Buck Hunter work in MK30th, Centipede or Pac-Mania? I think Buck Hunter Is a BOE monitor.
Love this. However, if I’m going to take the trouble of taking my cabinet apart, I feel I’d rather put a 19 or 20inch monitor in there. Are there any larger compatible monitors out there?
Hey 🦊! Question for you. I was able to install the mod with your help here but I noticed the contrast still appears to be brighter than my other cabinets. For instance when I adjust the volume, I noticed the green volume font that’s a very distinct green on my other machines is more of a light blue on this machine. Is there any way to adjust the contrast on this guy? I want to see if I can use that volume slider as a baseline for how it should look.
Did you buy used? If so, Im wondering if the previous owner changed the settings and your still seeing them. I installed a brand new one tonight and the colors looked correct and as expected during all game play. It’s possible the volume bar graphic is simply a different color on this cab, though I don’t recall what color it was when I tested after the swap earlier. But gameplay colors were correct.
Do you think that at some point as arcade1up starts to get BOE stock back then they will start putting them in the new builds of mk 30th? as it seems they are now using again BOE for the new SF and MVC2 cabinets.
Would a 19 inch dell monitor be able to swap panels with the stock Arcade1Up as easy? Or would it be impossible / or just have to mod it slightly further?
Depends on how it connects. This one connects the same as and is essentially the same tech as the stock monitor, hence why it's plug-n-play. We'd just need to find one that is the same specs, just 19". There are plenty of 19" CCFL monitors that have been talked about elsewhere, though, and all you'd need to do differently is use the CCFL inverter board mentioned in the video.
I want to change the monitor on my cab also because it looks like s**t . The main question here is : does this improve the look of the game ? Because with the stock monitor it look pixelated like hell , try sonya vs sonya on MK1 looks horrible. Viewing angle don't bother me since I'm playing in front of it and not from the side . Thanks
Hey 19kFox, I’m pretty sure it will work from all I’ve researched…. This screen replacement will work in the Joust A1U cabinet?! Love the videos and thanks for sharing your experience! 🙌🏻
Fox, Finished the screen swap and oh my, what a difference!! Went ahead and added the light up coin doors and looks amazing! A1up the way it should be Thanks again!
I got a little confused at the end of the video - what Cable gets plugged into the Monitor? Do we need the Circuit board with the Black Ribbon Cable from the Dell Monitor? Does an A1UP Connector from the back of the Monitor get plugged into the Connector on the Dell Monitor that has black tape around it? Does this Dell E1715S monitor do 4:3 and 5:4? Can we use it for Gen 1 Cabinets...such as Asteroids...if those Monitors go "bad"?
You’re going to strip everything from the Dell panel. No cables will be used from the Dell. The cables on the stock Arcade1up panel will be used on the new panel. Sorry for the confusion. The backlight cable for the Gen 1 monitor is different so it will not be a simple plug and play.
Answered my own question. You can do this mod if you're going to use the typical LVDS HDMI adapter thing you use for a raspberry pi setup. Just make sure the adapter you get comes with an LED driver board and not the CCFL one
I have a question can somebody answer this have the original Mortal Kombat heritage can I take that monitor out and put it in the MK 30 is it as easy as just a swap?
The monitors from the second generation MK2 will work in the MK30 and it will be a slight improvement. The monitor in the first Midway Legacy is a 4:3, the MK30 is a 5:4 so the bottom 64 lines would not be displayed.
Not bad! Amazing video! There may be a second life for my cabinet after all lol. I'm still concerned about the input lag I've noticed on my MK 30th cab. When playing it on the original monitor, and then playing it on the new dell monitor, have you noticed the input lag getting any better with the new monitor, or do you feel the Never was any input like to begin with? ... It could be the fact that I haven't swapped the controls out for Suzo Happ brand parts yet, or could be the crappy monitor or combination of both. ....your thoughts, bud?
🦊Thank you so much for doing this tutorial video. It has definitely given me the confidence to do the modification myself and I know I'll enjoy the cab much more now! Did you have any problems with the holes lining up with the screws for the monitor casing?
I already did this mod but this is soooo much cleaner... I may end up switching it up so it looks close to stock. Taking that monitor out if the machine Is a pain in the ass and I'm not sure I wanna take that ride again lol
Will it be a pain with this new monitor ? What do you mean by looks close to stock ? There is no drilling etc right ? Can the bezel get damaged easily ?
@@petermacnab1871 I have already done this mod with the method he spoke about drilling holes and such. His method keeps the cabinet looking stock without the extra board and drill holes. The pain in the ass is getting to the original monitor as you have to take the marquee off , speakers and that's the part that's difficult to work with and I. Not sure if I wanna go through all that hassle but I just might because of the stock look

Any advice?
In what moment you replace the 30 pin cable im putting a 19 inch on my xmen vs street figther😊
Just installed it and it looks great !! thanks man :}
Question: is it less pixalated than with the original monitor? Or it only improve on the black color level ? Thanks
@@ribiflibi i did not see any difference standing in front of it until i stepped to the side a little bit and could really notice the difference , after watching this video i looked side to side and could see washout and it was only 50 bucks on ebay for the other monitor so I said why not and I still have the original monitor for back up !
Thanks 🦊 Just Scooped 1 Up on Ebay for $75 bucks and Free Shipping! YAHOO !!!!
Fox we need your help that listing is sold out can you find another listing please!?
I'm curious, is there a 20" monitor with led backlight that you could use a similar method with and connect directly via LVDS instead of going through the geekworm adapter (which could introduce lag? I'm not sure if anyone has confirmed what the latency on these are).
I understand mounting the 20" monitor would be slightly different, but would love to see a video on this if it's possible
Hi,
great tutorial!
I found a Dell 1708FPb used for few bucks.
Does anybody know if this could work?
Thanks
I have a 19" Dell 4x3 monitor. I'd like to connect it to my Arcade1Up Dragon's Lair cab as secondary monitor. I'm told connecting it from Dell's VGA port to Arcade1Ups USB port won't work. What do I need to make this happen if at all possible?
You need a Geekworm LVDS in and LVDS out to HDMI board.

According some info I've gathered the Dell E1715S is still a TN panel which is the same type of panel as the MK30th. Does anyone know if there's any good BOE pc monitors that could be a replacement?
it's a great mod but I don't really think the washouts that bad
KFox, I just did this mod on my MK30th based on your video using the exact, Dell monitor you recommended ($99 new), and it looks SOOOO much better than the stock monitor. Thank you for this! Funny thing, though... if you look carefully, this Dell monitor is made by AUO, and has the exact, same model number as the one included in MK30th! I can see the model in your video (4:27), and sure enough, these are all the same AUOs... I have no idea how they're so different than the A1U version (maybe the LED lighting instead of CCFL?), but it's night and day. The stock one is borderline unplayable!
I think the way the lcd panel is lit is the real difference. Glad it worked out for you Paul. 🦊👊🏼
Fox - do you think this swap would work on the Dig Dug Namco Legacy? I just assembled it and the monitor is similarly shoddy.
I did the swap in the new Pacmania cab. Check out the video here: ruclips.net/video/Ng9Fhm3R7YE/видео.html

Would this fit vertically in the wave 1 galaga cabinet?
Will this work with other Arcade1up cabinets?! Final fight, Street fighter 2, TMNT, Simpsons etc?? thanks so much.. I got a Final Fight cabinet for free because it won't power on! I'm 95% sure its the factory monitor. I would love to buy one of these, IF it will fit. Any input would be awesome! thanks for the video!
It should work with all 1st Gen Arcade1ups.
Awesome! thanks so much!@@19kfox
Do you think the E1715SE model will do the same. I cannot find any E1715S in Canada? Thanks in advance.
I think the only difference is the SE has a 75hz refresh rate Vs the S with 60hz. You should be good.
Thanks for your quick answer… i appreciate!!!😃
The Dell, no question.
Thanks for doing the homework for everyone👍
Great video! Still ridiculous we have to do this to achieve a decent screen for this arcade cab.
Would the Boe monitor from the first mortal kombat work on this new mortal kombat 30th anniversary cabinet?
Can you show how plug the wire because i try m'y killer instinct screen and the screen only flash and the wire are the same so i dont understand how can plug the pc screen . Thank a lot
Thanks for video Fox. I would have liked to see some game play. Looked up monitor and is no longer available new for that price. Seen used for $75 grade A. Puts me on the fence now, but I did get my MK30TH for $400. So......
I'll post a Short of a gameplay comparison.
@@19kfox would be great. thanks!
Thanks for the video, I may have missed it but could use this same monitor for the new centipede (legacy) cab as well? Thanks.
I haven’t done the mod on that cabinet but it should be the same.
@19kfox Hey Fox, would a 17" BOE monitor from the Ms. Pac-Man Partycade work in the MK30th, Pac-Mania, or Golden Tee 3D cabinets? Would it be plug and play?
I don't think so, the aspect ratio is different.
@@19kfox I am going to be doing a monitor upgrade for Big Buck Hunter and replacing it with a 20" Dell. Would the A1Up Buck Hunter work in MK30th, Centipede or Pac-Mania? I think Buck Hunter Is a BOE monitor.
Is this possible with the Street Fighter Yoga Flame edition arcade1up cabinet?
It uses a BOE brand of monitor that is much higher quality. No need to replace it.
i have a gen1 MK cabinet and the monitor isnt the BOE type. would this still work?
I think so. The aspects ratio is 5:4 on this monitor upgrade and I think that’s the same as the gen 1 MK.
I haven’t tried it my self.
@@19kfox the monitor on my cabinet is a TN
Would this work for all the cabinets like the marvel super heroes or street fighter
No because the aspect ratio is different, 5:4 vs 4:3.
Hello, What do we use for the X-men vs street fighter cabinet @19kfox ?
Love this. However, if I’m going to take the trouble of taking my cabinet apart, I feel I’d rather put a 19 or 20inch monitor in there. Are there any larger compatible monitors out there?
The P1917S that I used on the Golden Tee XL should work but I have not tried it myself.
I hope we get a re-release with BOE monitors. MK fans deserve better.
Do you think this same monitor swap would work for the Defender 40th Anniversary Legacy cabinet?
Can the same monitor be used on the centipede legacy cab?
Yes, but the results are not the same. Here’s my video on the Pacmania cab: ruclips.net/video/Ng9Fhm3R7YE/видео.htmlsi=sauVVuXBKjRe6M8N
Could this been done with a 19” ?
is there a manual for this new cab?
Great job !!!! Looks nice
Thanks Jason. 🦊👊🏼
Thanks
I just got a Dell 1708FP monitor today. Can you tell me exactly where i can find the extra part to make it work? Thanks in advance. ;-)
I just put the link in the description. 🦊👊🏼
Thanks for the rapid answer. Just ordered this part. 😉
Glad you are enjoying the monitor and we appreciate your purchase if you have any other needs feel free to reach out to us :) - ReelTime
Absolutely. 🦊👊🏼
That’s insane how much better that is for $50-$100
Hey 19kFox,
I’m pretty sure it will work from all I’ve researched…. This screen replacement will work in the Joust A1U cabinet?!
Love the videos and thanks for sharing your experience! 🙌🏻
Yes it will. 🦊👊🏼
Thanks again! 🤙🏻
Fox,
Finished the screen swap and oh my, what a difference!! Went ahead and added the light up coin doors and looks amazing! A1up the way it should be
Thanks again!
So we need the inverter board to complete this mod with the monitor that is in the description correct?
You only need the Dell monitor. The lcd panel is a direct replacement for the stock MK30.
Thank you!
We also want a review on that KI coming Saturday!
If replacing monitor, can you change to 19” or 20”? Which model works plug n play?
I wonder. Are this mod compatible with Gen1 cabs? 🤔
You would need the small circuit board for the LED backlight found on these new cabinets.
@@19kfox so this monitor is compatible with that method. Thanks man! I keep two cabinets with stock monitor cause the 🍓🍓👟 pcb.
Would a mortal kombat 2 monitor work
Yes but it will only be a marginal improvement.
Could you do a step by step I want to try this myself
@@19kfox - Thanks for the R&D and disseminating this info to the community.
@@19kfox what's different about the backlight cable? Does this mean this monitor won't work for a 1st generation street fighter II?
I didn’t notice any lag. To be fair I don’t consider myself an authority on MK so it may be there. 🦊👊🏼
@@19kfox gotcha, thanks for still uploading an awesome video regardless. Looking forward to finding me a good deal on a replacement monitor. 👍
🦊Thank you so much for doing this tutorial video. It has definitely given me the confidence to do the modification myself and I know I'll enjoy the cab much more now! Did you have any problems with the holes lining up with the screws for the monitor casing?
No alignment issues at all.
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Thank you, sir 🙌🏼
so the only reason for this mod is because of lihting?
Does this monitor work with any Gen1 pcb
I haven’t tested all the PCBs but it should work.
@@petermacnab1871 if you haven't built the cabinet yet then this will be very easy to do, it already is easy. getting the original monitor out once the machine is built is the hard part
@@Bushidotrees I would be afraid of scratching or damaging the cab. But at Jesse no drilling with this mod. How long did it take you ? The marquee comes off easily though right ? 🤔 it would be great but I don’t think about it when I’n playing but seeing it bothers me a bit .
@@Bushidotrees I built it already 😩
