  • In our first video, 'A Tale of Two Macans', we consider the financial benefits of going down to your nearest Porsche Dealer and trying to procure either a new or nearly new old version of the Porsche Macan. There is little difference dynamically between the previous model and the new model that is starting to appear in the showrooms. However there is a big difference between the outgoing going diesel model and the new model in that there is not going to be a new diesel variant. So if you want one this maybe your last chance to pick up a diesel Macan.
When it comes to driving quickly, the Porsche Macan Diesel is superior to it's rivals. I recommend having the air suspension which simply glides over the bumps, or can be stiffened as required to take corners with ease. Masses of torque make this car quick in the real world and it costs just a few hundred pounds more than the equivalent BMW X3 30d M Sport which as you know we have. And the Macan is the more sporty performer of the two!
The Porsche Macan Diesel is/ was available with one engine, the 3.0-litre V6 kicking out 254bhp, a very similar output to the petrol one, and it will average mid 40's mpg if driven with restraint. 35mpg more typical in mixed driving. At least 10mpg better than the Petrol model.
Starting price is around the £45K mark and overall the diesel accounted for 60% of Macan sales. The Macan is also a consummate cruiser, but in every day driving it is the torque you notice, 560lb ft of torque, being available between 1,500rpm and 2,500rpm.
This car corners almost like a sports car, a turn of the electromechanical steering and the Macan's nose tucks in with only a touch of body-roll, with good balance, allowing you to get back on the power and let the four-wheel drive system help to hold you on your chosen line, you are though aware of the additional body weight.
However and it is a BIG however it is not as much fun to drive in a spirited fashion as the Petrol Variant. In the 'Macan' you are not aware of any body roll and the front end tucks in better and holds it's line round the corners better than in the diesel. These are small margins here but noticeable nevertheless. Certainly you have to use the gears in the Petrol because there is nothing like as much torque as in the diesel but do so and the Petrol Version will perform even better than the Diesel.
At SS8000Cars we recommend the Petrol One. A magnificent car and by far the best sporting SUV manufactured to-date imo!!

Very helpful video. I went from an F-TYpe R to a Velar P300 SE as (I was struggling to get in and out of the F-Type due to spinal issues) but I really miss the excitement. I'm seriously looking at the Macan as it seems I can have the best of both worlds. Thank you!

Had Porsche 911’s for years now, with a current 991.1 GTS and was looking for a daily driver. I tried the Macan and thought it handled amazingly well for an SUV. But that for me was the problem, the weight and height mean it can’t over come physics despite the clever engineering. In the end I went for a daily driver VW Golf R and having had it a year and half there is nothing this car can’t do, truly amazing.

Nice quick review again Ian, looks like it's been snowing in your neck of the woods, brilliant sunshine down here in London, may have to get the Sun cream out😆

Great review, hopefully you'll get a chance to do some road test with the excellent weather we are having now, looking forward to that.
Best of luck with the new website. I had a look around, it's very nice. As a suggestion if I may, I'd say put the video links in the reviews themselves as well as in the video section. For the Finance section the one thing that I've not often seen in other places offering Finance for high end cars, is actual examples. I am just thinking of something that could differentiate you from the rest, as there are quite a few finance brokers out there. Normally you have to type in all the details and then you get the quote. It could be an idea, if it's allowed, to publish some examples of finance deals you will do as you start completing a few, or maybe you could do representative examples for some commonly sought after used sports car, for instance AUDI R8, Lamborghini Huracan, Porsche 911 and so on and so forth. That would probably earn you some links from some forums and then things could pick up from there.

Which petrol is he talking about, 2lt or 3lt? The Macao is not made for the type of driving he was talking about. My diesel will be staying with me until one of us breaks. Riding the wave of torque as per a V8 petrol is great.

It must be the 2lt petrol as the 3lt petrol has more than 250hp

@@kymsomerville9024 if any comparison justly can be done it must be with the 3L, the smaller 2L will no way near be in line with the diesel.. I know having had the petrol S and now the Diesel S.
