- have you got a Honda group car with a boot latch like that in the Jazz or Civic. if your tailgate / boot isn't opening its because the mechanism is stiff not broken..you just need to lubricate it with WD40, leave it to work for an hour or so and problem should be fixed. this is what I did on this demonstration 2011 Honda Jazz.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I work as a community nurse and have supplies of dressings and basic things in my car for patients and haven’t been able to get into the boot for a couple of weeks! This is a godsend! I actually thought this would be a fortune to fix. It opened straight away. Now lathering in WD40 🤣 Thank you
I work as an accountant in Adult Social care, so very aware of the amazing work people like you do. So humbled and happy to know I could help in a small way.
Two years on from your post, and you got me out of a jiffy today with my Honda insight. Thank you.
Glad this video helped and thanks for taking the time to leave your kind comments
I don't say this often but not all super heroes wear capes and you're one of them sir 🙂
Thank you ☺️ so very kind of you.
I did this last night as my 2007 honda jazz was sticking. It has worked perfectly. Thank you
Glad to hear it👍
Many thanks for taking the time to describe this fault, and the simple fix. I have also experinced this problem for the last couple of weeks on my 2013 Jazz. WD-40 fixed it for me on this occasion, but once it's bedded-in and jiggled around for a few trips to loosen-up then I'll plan to re-treat the (rusty) latch spindle with White-Lithium spray grease (that same white grease that the Honda garage spray on the other hinges) for a longer-term metal-on-metal solution.
Yes indeed the white lithium spray is required for long term fix. This is more as an emergency, where everyone more or less has a bottle of WD-40 lying around the house somewhere.
Thanks a Million. I bought a used jazz and this morning i had this issue and because of your video. You have saved me from stress and money🙏
Glad to have been of assistance
Magic video, brought a new car and couldnt open tailgate, paniced.this worked a treat.great video for sure.
Thanks for your kind comments 😊. Glad the video helped
After using this simple 'fix' a few years ago on my wife's 2005 Jazz, it has stuck, locked, again. Had to re-visit your Video once again, to remind me. Thank you for posting this 👍🙂
Absolutely fantastic video. I couldn't get the boot open 2 minutes after watching this video. I'm in. Thank you very much 😊
Fantastic news. Really glad the video was helpful and thank you for your kind comments 😊
I see this has helped a lot of people out, please accept a thank you from me also! Exactly the same problem had occurred in my 2010 Honda Insight. Problem now solved. Thanks!
Glad the vid helped ☺️. Thank you for your kind comments. To solve this issue for a longer period. Please use lithium spray or what they call WD-40 "SPECIALIST" spray....this leaves a white residue but is more robust against moisture and lasts longer
Brilliant , thank for that simple easy solution. Made me smile when it worked and I did not have to spend ages trying to sort it out
Glad to hear the video helped and thank you for your kind comments ☺️
Excellent video and so glad someone's posted how to fix this annoying issue. Had this exact problem. Boot on wife's Jazz just now just wouldn't budge and the handle would just move a little bit, so it was clearly stuck in the up position. Here's the funny thing. Having watched this video, I went back out to the car, with loaded WD40 cannister in hand. Unlocked the car, tried the boot, and hey presto, it had sorted itself out whist no one was looking. Handle back in it's normal position and worked perfectly with no need for me to do anything. I still gave it a good squirt of WD40 though.
My MOT just failed because of this, I’m going to try this out. Thanks
Hope it works out for you.
Another happy person. Just arrived after a 5 hr journey on a hot day. Boot not opening . Thanks again buddy . Now where did I put the wd-40. Please not the boot 😅.
Lol. Glad the video helped and thanks for your kind comments
Amazing. Thank you so much. I need to get my mum’s wheelchair in and this fixed the problem.
Glad it helped you and especially your mum. Thank you for your kind feedback ☺️
I just used this tip and got my problem fixed for my 2016 Jazz (India). Thanks a lot, brother.
I tried this. Took 5 seconds to fix it. Thank you. 🙏
This worked on my 2010 Insight and took seconds, saving me thousands. Thank you.
Top man, was panicking as i have a move coming soon and need to load up car. started removing the lining inside, phew... perfect little upload.
thanks.
Glad to be of assistance

Great Advice, worked for my 2007 jazz!

Thanks for your kind comments and glad the video was helpful 👍
It worked on my newer Fit. First time this happens. Thanks a lot !
Saved my car being deemed unroadworthy at MOT. Thank you
Glad to have been of assistance
Fab! I'll try this in a bit.. I've been putting up eith this for weeks!
Greetings from Northern Scotland
Thanks for your kind comments. 😊
Try using the WD-40 SPECIALIST spray..it's a bit more expensive than the standard WD-40 but is better for hinges and parts like this...resists moisture and dirt more
Such a great short video. 2013 and it worked perfectly. ❤
Thanks for your kind comments and glad the video was of assistance to you ☺️
Thank you, made my life much easier fixing my wife’s car
Thanks for your kind comments and glad the video was helpful 👍
Thank you! That was easy and I did it all by myself (with your help!). You explained that so clearly and patiently. 😀
Thank you for your kind comments. Glad it helped you out.
I had the same problem with my Jazz, and WD40 worked perfectly. Well, one more problem, not only the handle got stuck, but the lock too. I can see you have a bigger inspection door in the panel, in my 2006 Jazz it is just a small hole, maybe 3cm in diameter. The problem was a plastic separator did not go deep enough in "unlock mode" to activate/push the unlocker/hook. I wish such mechanisms were eternal. The same problem with back handle in Pajero, jeez ...
Excellent! Worked first time, thank you loads!!!🎉
Thanks for your kind comments and glad the video helped ☺️
Spot on. Worked for me immediately on an erlarlier jazz. Cheers
Glad the video was of assistance 😊
Top man. Got it open in like 10 seconds.
Glad the video was helpful. Thanks for your kind comments
Just did exactly this on my 2013 Jazz and it's already working again after just a few sprays of WD40! I'll leave it and spray a bit more in a bit, just to be sure. Thank you!
Glad it helped. To work long term..please spray with the lithium spray (WD-40 SPECIALIST). If not no worries, just make sure to lubricate every few months and you should be good.
Thx ! From Finland it's open now! Many 🙏
Thanks for taking the time to leave such a nice comment. Glad the video helped 🙂
Same car and year as yours. Very helpful, thanks.
Glad the video was helpful and thanks for taking the time to leave such a nice comment ☺️
Thank you so much. Only had the car one day and boot wouldn't open. Squited wd40 then light oil while boot was as far up as i could managed. A good jiggle up and down and its good. Any other issues i need to be aware of?
Thanks for your kind comments. Glad the video helped
😮 OMG
THIS VIDEO MADE ME SOLVE ISSUE LESS THAN A MINUTE
THANKS BRO 🙏
Glad to be of assistance
Omg! So simple and it worked. Thank you.
Glad this helped and thanks for your kind comments ☺️
You can also get lubricant onto the problem from the number plate light on either side of the lock. I had to use lots of gt85 and wd40!
You Sir, are an absolute legend ❤ thanks so much for sharing 🙌
Glad the video was helpful and thanks for your kind comments 😊
Thanks for this, was driving me mad, had ro keep climbing into the boot having to unlock it. I have a Honda hrv 2004, exactly same bootl atch.
Glad it helped 😊
Perfect, thank you. Exactly as you described, now working smoothly
Glad to have been of assistance
Me too. What a brilliant piece of advice
Thanks so much. Worked a treat!
Yup, another happy customer here!
Very nice save me a trip to garage
Thank you for sharing I have a 2004 I brought a week ago the first time it did this I couldn’t open it but thanks to u I did
Glad to be of assistance. Please check if your car has a aftermarket or original catalytic converter. If its original I'd get a catlock chain or plate fitted to protect it from thieves, as the Mk1 jazz is a big target for catalytic converter thieves. If it's an aftermarket one then they won't touch the car.
Thank you so much. Worked on my Honda jazz!
Thanks, it was very helpful.
My automatic jazz gear knob is a bit sticky, any easy fix or do I have to take to a mechanic?
Depends how confident you feel...you'd have to take off the plastic surrounding the gearbox lever and then lubricate the gear lever mechanisms...leave overnight and see if it works ..if it's still not solved then yes it'd have to go to a mechanic
@@sutsi Thanks
Thanks very much for the info solved my 2008 jazz
My 09 Fit was doing that and WD-40 didn’t help much. CLP Break Free is a military grade gun lube that wicks it’s way further in, and it’s been working good for 3 years now.
Thanks for this video. Just tried it and it worked!
Glad to have been of assistance
Thanks for your video brother, it really helped me.
Thank you, this worked for my car also.
Wanted to open the plastic cover first, but this video convinced me to be lazy and use WD40-like stuff :-)
Great advice many thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
You are a life saver. Thanks a lot brother for this :-)
You are most welcome
Thanks..worked a treat 😊
Thanks much appreciate this.
Fantastic thank you worked a treat
Glad the video was of assistance to you ☺️
Thank you so much. Worked for me.
Thank you so much for this, it worked!!
You're welcome. Glad to have been of assistance
Don't forget to do this monthly during winter months to stop it seizing again and if you can use WD40 "specialist" it's better for these external applications
Good tip pal, thx a lot.
Thank you. Fixed it!
Brilliant!!! Thank you.
Glad it helped
Thank you
You life saviour 🤣♥️👌
Glad it helped and thank you for your kind comments ☺️
Thanks alot, you helped me!
Glad to have been of assistance
Bro ur a genius
Perfect fix thanks!
Great job
This worked on my 2013 Jazz, thanks for the advice
Glad to have been of assistance.
Pretty sure it's just a temporary fix but thanks I'll try it as I am too lazy to disassemble the whole boot. What I noticed at least for me it only sticks in the summer when it gets direct sunlight on the opening mechanism. Throughout winter there is no problems
It's to do with the design of the latch...when car is new or latch new it works fine but over the years moisture gets in and so the mechanism stiffens to the point where you can't open it....I describe it very much like a door hinge...you need to every so often keep it oiled/lubricated to keep in optimal operating condition. Hope this helps and best of luck with your car.
It works, Thank you
Thanks for your kind comments and glad the video was helpful 👍
Thanks you saved me
Pleasure to be of assistance
Man, i have a problem with my trunk honda fit 2010 model. I can't open it with the remote if i press the remote to unlock the trunk its not working . Please help me what should i do
Press the unlock button twice...if it still doesn't work...try the technique on this video. If still unsuccessful...you'll have to crawl into the boot and around the middle there's a small plastic cover you take that off and manually pull the lever and should release the lock
Thank you!
You're most welcome and glad the video was helpful 👍
Thank you 🎉🎉
You're most welcome
Id recommend people use wd40 silicone instead so then its waterproofing and lubricating.
Spot on, thanks!
Glad to be of assistance
Thank you
Glad the video helped and thank you for your kind comments
Thank u dear
Glad it helped. Thanks for your kind comments 😊
I tried this method.. but still boot is not opening.. what to do now??
There's a emergency release lever at the back...you have to lower rear seats and get into boot to access. If it releases it means you need to lubricate more...if it doesn't still release it's most likely one of the cables has come loose... you'll need to open the rear plastic panel...but I'm pretty sure a bit more lubrication will sort it. Spray lots of wD 40 and leave it at least 12 hrs and go back spray again then try...hope it works out for you
@@sutsi yes I checked at the back. Inside the plastic panel there was a small lever but it was not released. I moved it on right side with my finger then tried open the boot then boot did open. But when I closed the boot and tried again then it’s stop opening. I think u r right.. might be one of the wire is loose. Any ideas about the wire . Can I do something with the wire or should I go to mechanic.
@@amir18225 if it opened when you used the emergency release ....would suggest that it is still a bit stiff....try wd40 from inside where the emergency release is and also from outside as per video...leave it overnight and see in the morning. If it still doesn't work then you'll most likely need a replacement latch
@@sutsi okey let me do this tonight. Hopefully it will work.. thanks for your reply mate.. cheers 🙏🙏👍
Thanks
You're most welcome
Good old WD40!
"Push the unlock button twice". But where is the unlock button?
@@Limerick789 on your remote fob.
@@sutsi Thank you
