      It would really be great if they did. I hope that it gets adopted more widely. I would love to be able to use it on my Osee Megamon 15.

    Yeah, I bought this monitor over other options ONLY for touch-focus which the Atomos website says is available when using the Canon R6mk2. I have the latest camera firmware and updates the Atomos to the new 11.01.01 firmware and still no luck. It's a deal-breaker for me if I can't get it so I submitted a ticket on their site. Hope to get good news soon.

      Yeah, it does seem like aspects of this product were rushed to market. To my knowledge, the cables still are not available - not that I would buy them anyway, but still.
      Fingers crossed on the touch focus but I'm not holding my breath.

    They’re improving camera control and adding touch to focus with firmware soon I’ve heard them comment that on so many videos. Hopefully sooner than later 🤞🏻

    Great review!
    Question, I’m new to monitors can you make the monitor come on/off with the camera? Without using the on/off button on the side of the monitor?

    • @MattSpaugh
      @MattSpaugh  Месяц назад +1

      None of the monitors that I've owned have ever had that function. They all have to be turned on and off independent of the camera.
      Hope that helps, thanks for watching!

      @@MattSpaugh I've had mine 7 years, so I doubt they are available new, but still worth picking up cheap 2nd hand. Has a lot of features missing from this Shinobi e.g. Customisable false colour, photo / grab option. I've loved mine but had head turned by the camera control features on the shinobi, hence why I'm here! Thanks for the insight

    They just released a firmware update about two days ago. I think it addresses some of the issues you mentioned.

    • @MattSpaugh
      @MattSpaugh  2 месяца назад

      Thanks for the info. At the time of my use, I was running 11.01.00. I see they're now on 11.01.01 but all the site says is "bug fixes and stability improvements". I know there were big-time issues prior to 11.01.00 - like recording being stopped if you left the camera control screen.
      I think the issues (and quick succession of updates) only gives more weight to my comments about poor decision making and/or bad planning on Atomos' part.
      OKAY - for real this time - I'll stop whining! 🤣

    Just to add you mention the fan noise of the original Shinobi a few times? I’m not sure how as the original Shinobi has no fan just like the new version 2? Both Shinobi v1 and v2 are passively cooled. Unless you’re comparing it to the Ninja which of course has a fan.

    I have a Sony camera, and I don’t want my Shinobi monitor to charge the camera’s battery. However, I do want to keep the camera control feature enabled. Is there a way to disable the charging function while keeping camera control, or is disconnecting the camera control cable the only solution?

    • @MattSpaugh
      @MattSpaugh  Месяц назад +1

      Not that I know of. I'm curious why you would not want a single 'pool' of battery power that both the camera and monitor are using.
      FWIW, after years of using larger batteries I've changed and now carry multiple smaller ones. For my rodeo videos, I use the smaller NP-F550 batteries in my monitor and keep an extra in my pocket along with a second NP-FZ100 for the camera.

    Is there video output for wireless transmitters?

    • @MattSpaugh
      @MattSpaugh  Месяц назад

      There is a single HDMI input - no output. I use an Accsoon transmitter that has input and output so I run through that first and have the monitor at the end of the chain.
      Hope that helps, thanks for watching!

    hi Matt,
    new comment, serious question: I'm considering an Atomos Ninja (maybe Ultra) because I need a monitor to compose and manual focus video in the African bush, and I want to use the recording functionality. The main issues which concern me are 1.) screen size 2.) screen brightness 3.) fan noise 4.) weight.
    questions I have based on your experience with the Ninja and the Shinobi II:
    1.) is a 5-inch screen big enough, or would a 7-inch be better, of course with size comes other problems, but in terms of being able to see clearly enough to focus mostly - my short range eyesight has gone pearshaped recently, reason I'm asking...
    2.) you mention the specs of the Shinobi II and the brightness, the alternatives are:
    Ninja / Ninja Ultra: 1000cd/m2/nits
    Shogun (7-inch Monitor/recorder): 2000 +/- 10% whatever that means
    Shinobi II: 1500 as you stated in your video
    the conditions in Africa are generally harsh sunlight, alot of glare, etc - would you classify the Ninja brightness as very dull?
    3.) is the Ninja fan noisy?
    4.) the Ninja is heavier, and the Shogun almost double the weight, and price....
    so I'd appreciate your opinion on the above if you have the time
    thanks
    russ

    • @MattSpaugh
      @MattSpaugh  2 месяца назад +1

      I'll try to hit these in order:
      1) I've own and use both 5 and 7 inch monitors and while I love the additional real estate, the 7" monitors are just too awkward as a camera-mount monitor. The 5" for me is the sweet spot.
      2) 1000 nits doesn't do the job for me outdoors. The 1500 nit Shinobi II worked perfect for me in direct sunlight at a recent outdoor event. You can always add a hood but I don't think it would be necessary with the Shinobi II.
      3) My Ninja fan is almost inaudible.
      4) The weight of the Ninja is not really a huge factor to me (size is but not weight so much) and I have no first hand experience with the Shogun so I can't offer a solid opinion.
      If you don't need a recorder, the Shinobi II is going to be hard to beat. If you do, the Ninja has always been a really solid, reliable performer for me.
      I hope that helps, good luck with your decision and thanks for watching!

    I have the first Shinobi, warm colors and a bit more exposed image, not at all what I expected on a monitor like that, is this working better in that sense?

    • @MattSpaugh
      @MattSpaugh  2 месяца назад

      I always found the color on my Ninja to be relatively accurate. I feel like the Shinobi II is as good or better. Granted, I'm using custom loaded LUTs on mine. I use the Phantom LUTs (which I highly recommend) and find that the color is very accurate between the Shinobi II and my calibrated studio monitor.

      @@MattSpaugh I've just bought the Shinobi II and the colors are way more accurate. As far as I've seen on the internet, some Shinobi eren't calibrated correctly and there was no way to fix it. Still the highlights are quite blown out, while on my Sony screen they're correctly exposed...

    • @MattSpaugh
      @MattSpaugh  Месяц назад

      @@VictorPerezPl I experienced a similar thing with the highlights being blown. I shoot SLog-3, S-Gamut.Cine and I use the Phantom LUTs package. Once I loaded those LUTS and started using them, I found it to be much more accurate. Are you shooting LOG and are you using the internal Atomos conversion LUT?
