Gainesville Pro Rodeo 2024
More pro rodeo action, this time from the Chicopee Woods Agricultural Center in Gainesville, Georgia. Two incredible nights of action. As always, huge thanks to my Southern Rodeo Family and all the workers, vendors, and amazing athletes that make these events happen.
If you're even remotely considering attending a pro rodeo event, I strongly encourage you to go. There is nothing like the sights and sounds (and smells) of being there - experiencing the excitement and athleticism of both the competitors and stock up close and LIVE.
If you have any questions about my approach to shooting rodeo, or any suggestions on ways I can do a better job, please comment below. Thanks for watching!

Lighting Breakdown: Go Wide for Depth
Просмотров 36319 часов назад
After the response I got to my last lighting breakdown video, I've done another one! In this video I share my thoughts and process on creating depth in a flat set. I use a wide focal length on my A camera and adjust the distances between the subject, the camera, and the background to create depth in a relatively small space. Yep, another tripod review. This one has been a long time coming since I really wanted to put this budget carbon fiber tripod through it's paces before taking the time to make a review. Obviously, it was worth it. The Innorel LT324C carbon fiber tripod is just the right tool for the work I'm doing during rodeo season. It's lightweight, very robust, and can take a beating. I found a solution for a7siii if your battery isn't the issue! TURN OFF BLUETOOTH FUNCTION. In my case, the screen will turn red or show gray lines and shut off suddenly. This usually happens in the first few seconds of recording video, and the camera is already warm. I have tried a million other things without avail: any SD card, battery, firmware 2.01 and 2.15, but bluetooth being on appears to have been the cause for some reason.

    Hello! new subscriber here! So when I shoot interviews, I just have a small 5" SmallHD Focus 5 external monitor on top of my a7siii - it works great for ME, but I want to eventually offer a monitor to my client who hired me for the interview. I don't want to ditch my SmallHD monitor, I just like it... but it doesn't have HDMI out... Would this CineEye2 system help me? I guess I would need to run the camera directly into the CineEye, and then OUT of the CineEye into my SmallHD monitor. So that I could have my usual personal monitor at the camera, and then the CineEye could send a feed to something else like an iPad for my client? Thanks for any advice!

    • @MattSpaugh
      @MattSpaugh 6 дней назад

      Sadly, the CineEye2 is no longer available but fear not - it was replaced with the CineView. If you look on my channel, you'll find a video about it. It's called, "Secret Weapon for Filming Yourself". The CineView HE has an HDMI passthrough (in and out) so you can run from your camera to the Cineview, and then to your monitor. This is the set up I use. I have the CineView HE and it works great. I use an iPad Pro as my client monitor but you can also buy. a receiver if you want to transmit to a HDMI compatible monitor. Hope that helps, thanks for watching!

    Great video Matt! Yes please, more about camera on sliders. I'm learning so much from your various framing and focal length explanations, it's like .. I don't have to do it myself 🙂 Oh yes, I'll have to anyway. But I'm writing down your figures and measures so I can compare to my space. To be more concrete, I have a shot ready for my three camera setup that worked well in my old studio, but now that I've moved and re-built everything from scratch, I'm curious if I could find a one camera shot of me playing the guitar and having everything visually clear, as if the viewer is sitting in front of me at home and we're jamming.. I have a an APS-C Sigma 16mm f1.4, Sony ff 85mm f1.8 and a Samyang ff 35mm f2.8. I also have a killer Tamron zoom lens 35-150mm f 2-2.8I but it's so heavy so I have to put it on a tripod. The magic arms for my other cameras are mounted on the main C-stand that I use to be able to move all cameras at the same time and experiment....'ll test it all this coming weekend...

    • @MattSpaugh
      @MattSpaugh 7 дней назад

      Sounds like you're busy! I think for the shot you're describing, the sitting and jamming, if you can get that 35-150 in the 50-60mm range, you shouldn't have to get it too far back to get both hands in the shot clearly and have everything look pretty natural. Good luck with it, I'll add a slider video to my ever-growing list of scripts. Thanks for watching!

    • @HomesickMac
      @HomesickMac 4 дня назад

      @@MattSpaugh Had to get back to you again, sorry for clogging the comments section... I've decided, due to the really little space for me and the stuff to move around --> out with the C-Stand and I'll replace it with a motorized desk on wheels. Then there's this Neewer Overhead Camera Mount Rig with two vertical poles and one horizontal connecting these... where I can hang and attach all cameras with magic arms and at least one light, probably fill. I'll only have to keep one light stand for the key light because it's quite heavy (Godox UL150) but that can be replaced later on with smaller lights I already have. So.. experimenting time soon.

That way I can do things that require more coordination (focusing, pushing buttons, twisting adjustment screws) with the hand that is more coordinated--my right hand. Moving a handle back and forth requires little coordination, so the handle is placed on the left side.

      Not that I know of. I'm curious why you would not want a single 'pool' of battery power that both the camera and monitor are using. FWIW, after years of using larger batteries I've changed and now carry multiple smaller ones. For my rodeo videos, I use the smaller NP-F550 batteries in my monitor and keep an extra in my pocket along with a second NP-FZ100 for the camera.

      Much obliged! I've always been frustrated by tutorials that leave out crucial information. It seems like no one ever talks about distances and specific focal lengths. This seems to be getting good traction so I definitely will do more in the future like this. I actually made a video at some point about using bulk fiberglass window screen material as ND for windows to cut down daylight but I struggled to get the point across clearly. I think I'll re-visit that. Thanks for the encouraging words - and for watching!

      @@MattSpaugh Oh yes, focal lengths.. You inspired me to actually try the 35mm f2.8 Samyang full frame lens on the A6700 so I'll be getting around 50mm and I can angle it to the room corner. I've just moved and need to redo the whole studio - I'm using three cameras at once for my videos and they live on on C-stand that I'm planning to roll around the tiny room. @@MattSpaugh I'm recording / livestreaming directly into Ecamm Live. The challenge is to run 3 cameras with a M1 MacMini from 2020, I can connect two capture cards to Mini's USB-A ports and the third one can _only_ come in through my Atem Mini Pro. I've tried with advanced powered Thunderbolt hubs but none of those is recognized as a video source. So no capture card into Th-dock and then to Mini. Only Atem works, and it's all fine with this setting, I've done 100 livestreams like that. Every camera is powered with a dummy battery, all is tucked nicely around the C-stand where I only have one power cable coming out. Hardware wise the new challenge is to built everything up again after the move to this new flat and to plan for the cable lengths between cameras and the computer/Atem so that I can move the whole thing within the room.. Software wise it's a breeze with Ecamm Live.

      @@HomesickMac I checked out your channel - great playing. I'm primarily a drummer so my guitar style has always been a percussive approach (read: ham-fisted). I'm not familiar with Ecamm Live. I've produced a weekly three cam stream for years. It's a church service that I recently switched to a hardware solution. We're using the Osee GoStream Deck as switcher and encoder. The learning curve was a bit steep at first (for me, anyway) but it's been a good move and very cost effective. Rave on!

      Thanks Peter - these events do come with their share of challenges but the rewards are great indeed! ON the shot you mentioned, I typically set myself in a line between the entry and the barrel. That night I had to move back about 12 feet and the results were surprising. You wouldn't think that moving that amount would make much of a difference but it made tracking the action much easier. Thanks for watching and for your kind words!
