This reminds me of Super Mario 64 DS, where a similar glitch could be used to freeze time permanently. In that state, the player character could still walk around and take damage from things like lava, but enemies and objects wouldn't be interactable, and jumping on a Koopa Shell would freeze the game. Something similar also happened in Odyssey in Bowser's Kingdom too, with similar glitchy effects. Seems this sort of bug is a common one across the franchise!
In super mario world, a certain cheat that cancels the death animation allows you to freeze time. That's also the case when using a game dev debug code. When you scroll the camera, the game will freeze for a few instants, by enabling debug mode during that timespan, you'll be able to move while time is stopped.
Funny thing, that text box upon landing thing allowed me to do a glitch where Yoshi can keep the monkey in his mouth and eventually eat it in Mario 64 DS.
*I AM M O N K E, LORD OF TIME, EATER OF WORLDS, PERPENDICULIZAR OF PARALLEL UNIVERSES. YOUR INFINITE BACKWARDS ACCELERATION CANNOT PROTECT YOU FROM MY WRATH*
I remember a tv documentary where some guy bought a 'lordship'. He turned up to a farm where the plot he was 'lord' of was situated and asked the farmer if he could see it, as he was 'its lord'. The just farmer told him to fuck off, so he did 😂
I wonder if that would be considered criminal. He does technically own the land, so he has the right to see it. Also, I’m pretty sure he’d have the right to tax the farmer for being on it. If he told me to fuck off from land I bought, I’d totally charge him a ton just to teach him some manners. Not like there’s anything unbelievable on his farm anyway.
@@scarymeunster9095 There is no way a farmer doesn't own the land he is farming on, unless its a very backwaters country. If there is a farm on your plot of land, your plot of land is either one of those silly faux ownership things, or you were literally scammed and don't own squat. Also, I don't think people have the right to access their land through other people's land by default. I think its generally the buyer's responsibility to make sure their land has adjacency to some public land so that they have an actual pathway in that doesn't pass through anyone else's property.
It's all about what the legal contract says and doesn't say. You can be lord in name only. Trying to argue power over the farmer would be a pretty futile legal battle, unless you have the capital resources to buy him out.
@@ganondalf8090 Not by that term. I guess its possible that the farmer doesn't own the land, but whatever contract they have with the owner probably doesn't allow the owner to cut the land into a million pieces and sell them while the farmer is still farming on it.
00:52 you should know, a Timelord (or Timelady) cannot stop time, but have a Tardis to travel through time and space. But I agree, a Timelord or Timelady would be awesome.
You know, when people say they wanna stop time, they seem to miss a few things. For example, you would constantly need to move to be able to breathe, as air molecules don't move by themselves anymore, much like a shark does. Thus, you, for example, couldn't sleep without dying.

For some reason I thought that the pause screen was a static image that was rendered when you pause and not a live 3D world from a different angle. Just that blew my mind a little bit today.
Its possible to spawn in multiple stars in normal gameplay, but you're still limited to collecting only one. In fact, there are levels where multiple stars are already present naturally. I assume that the animations would play one right after the other in that case.
A world forever stopped in time isn't as idyllic or fun as you would think - just look at Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Darkness/Time/Sky and that one episode in Rupert
Nice job Swanky, bringing up a piece of TerminalMontage's Something Versus, which the video had Melee Fox, going up against Speedrunner Mario, and in many times in that video that clip is from, Speedrunner Mario and Melee Fox take upon a Jojo's anime style look, with the two speaking Japanese while in those forms
Hey Swanky! Might deter some views to someone scrolling through videos quickly. Might be worth considering for the future!
Considering the fact that the paintings in luigis mansion are souls trapped in art does that mean that mario is travelling through paintings with lost souls in them Also I think the sm64 paintings represent where the soul is instead of who the soul is
I remember running into one of those monkeys and I hated it when one of them stole my hate, when I played on the Tall, Tall Mountain course. But, other than all of that, I understand how it was weird when time freezes in the game for me.

I answered my own question, am uploading the video as we speak. You can exploit this time stop to get a 0'00''00 Koopa race time RTA (no TAS), but I think Koopa despawns so you can't actually collect the star unfortunately.
With the text box freezing time, it works similarly in Mario Sunshine, but they allowed certain things to move during the text. Mario can die too. But if you trigger a shine cutscene, time stops. I tried to softlock the game on the Delfino Airstrip, and so right after the Polluted Piranha Plant dissolved, I talked to the Pianta lady nearby and got the timing just right. The cutscene triggered where the ground rose up and the shine appeared, but afterwards, the Pianta talked again but with no text box. The Toads, Toadsworth, and Peach along with the Piantas were absolutely frozen in time in their last positions. Even the heat wave effect freezes and awkwardly blurs Toad in the distance. The shine sprite is locked in its spawn position and does not spin. I think the sound for the sprite even cut out. The Pianta was talking without a text box but didn't move and I couldn't get rid of the dialogue. Mario was all that moved and he was stuck talking infinitely. Perhaps if I hack the game to make him lose his hat, he will die in that cutscene and something interesting may happen. Though my guess is that it would either treat it like a Delfino Airstrip death or go to the title screen. Or since it's a text box, I think Mario will die and stay dead infinitely without respawning. Both 64 and Sunshine are both so fun to softlock and mess with.
I really want to see swankybox do another challenge video such as the minecraft blocks run or the permanent metal mario while all other cap powers are banned even when you spawn in with them
So there's a theme that Nintendo has going for them: they have a lot of games that have glitches that can manipulate the flow of time. For example, there is a glitch used in the speedrun for, or at least I think it was used in this game, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and the glitch is known as "back-in-time", since when it was first discovered by a random guy who was just playing the game, it overwrote the data on his save file with the data from the title screen file, causing him to lose tons of progress. Now we have another glitch found in Super Mario 64 where time stops completely.
