Lao's armor makes my character look like one of those generic anime soldiers that die in groups of the dozens with a single attack from the protagonist/antagonist/vilain/etc
Andre Gon But the ashen lao's armor make you look like a general which is awesome.
Lmfao
I realized that the mhxx Fatalis armour design is based off of the white Fatalis armour in this monster hunter game \(°o°)/
Did you know that... In Kokoto village there is a guy who tells you that he was the one to throw the giant boulders at Lao
Ahahahaha that is epic
+gaijin hunter that guy is a trooper throwing damn boulders at an elder dragon. To bad it did nothing to him
+gaijin hunter btw you completely forgot to point out that from the bridge in area 4 you can jump onto laos back between his shoulder spines and his hind leg spines, that big open flat spot right in the middle of his back, iirc its a carve location and plant bombs there too iirc. also one of laos weak spots is that part of his belly that kinda hangs down just under his ribcage. you can do A LOT of damage there, also you should have mentioned the wooden gate at the end of area 4 since it impedes his progress and gives you some time to do damage.
+Yassin H The boulders actually do about 1 damage per hit
+Yeahz.tv will he even care about something hitting him that's the size of his foot?
it is a little boring like most large monsters
BUT
i will admit that the atmosphere and pressure makes the fight a little better
Well, back then, the only super large monsters that we had were the Lao Shun Lung and Shen Gaoren, so there wasn't really any comparing these monster fights to other fights like Ceadeus, Dahren Mohran, or Dalamadur. Even with all these fights, the only part that I found boring was the beginning of the Final Showdown with Jhen/Dahren Mohran when you had to wait for its large ass to walk a bit closer.
Zorah Magdaros AHHHHHHHHHH WHY!?!?!!
The boulders are actually being pushed by your "Rival" from mhf1, he is an npc in the village that gets mad at you because you always kill cool monsters before he can, after beating village lao shan lung he says he was the one who pushed the rocks
Fun Fact: You can actually trip the Lao Shan Lung. It'll fall down on just lay there for some seconds so you can hit it. By doing this it is possible to prevent it from getting to Area 5.
Me and 2 friends managed to do this in Monster Hunter Freedom 2, abusing the stupidly strong Akantor Bow, aiming for his backlegs all the time. Since he cannot be killed before reaching the final area he will flee from one of the previous areas.
Since it looks really weird when he does I think it was not ment to ever happen, but it can be done.
In the original you cold trip him solo with his hammer by hitting his legs over and over.
"We have a sense of urgency"
Proceeds to climb the ladder slowly
Gaijin you forgot to mention that those 2 are the first mountable monsters in the series and while standing on them you can carve them or place anti dragon bombs.
Yes, this monster was a chore, such a tedious fight where nothing happened. However, that is not its fault; it's yours. You're not cool or strong enough to warrant attention from Lao. *He doesn't care about you*. He only wants to get where he's going and *you're in the way*.
I remember the first time I came across Lao Shan Lung. That eerie silent flag, waving harshly in the wind. The dramatic build-up of music. You were in for an impossible fight. Again, he doesn't care. The only time he even gives you a passing thought is when you're on the bridge. Which, starting out, you weren't up there for giggles. You were a gunner, getting an advantage of high ground. You were *annoying*.
Then, as he exits 4, you make your mad dash to 5, knowing you only had little time to do *something* to this behemoth. For your first time fighting Lao, you can't tell if you've even done anything at all to him. He's done nothing but give off an aura of invincibility. And you were just 4 shmucks, fighting a *mountain that moves*. You stood ready, wherever you thought you were needed most. You waited that moment for him to arrive. It felt like forever.
Then he enters... And for the first time, you hear *the song* pick up. I remember that song so vividly, it remains one of my favorite in the game(s). It alone filled you with *determination*. You and your fellow hunters, you would become brothers and sisters that day. With everything you had and more, you fought to stop the rock.
*"The last and decisive battle"*.
+Justin Vasquez (Vasqueztion) And then you find out that the giant walking mountain is just a BABY, and it's actually running AWAY from something...that something is freaking FATALIS.
You want an idea of how big an ADULT Lao is? Shen Gaoren is carrying its head on its back. Do the math.
+Justin Vasquez (Vasqueztion) It is tedeous because it is created that way be the devs. They made him tedious and full of health. He does not attack you until the last stage like ... Ceadeus. Sorry to bust your fantasy buble. ;)
Red Phoenix You aren't bursting anyone fantasy "buble", friend. All you're doing is stating an obvious and already known fact.
+JanusHoW
That's what I've been thinking too. If we took the Shen Gaoren's skull-shell as a remnant of a Lao Shan Lung that died of natural causes, by scaling, the ones we fight are miniscule by comparison.
In truth, I feel that full-grown Lao Shan Lungs are truly titanic, and the only reason the ones we fight are this size is because if they any larger, their heads and bodies would've been too high for melee weapons to reach.
"filled with determination" **sees your profile pic** IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW
8:00 "Running away from a monster, rumored to be Fatalis"
9:00 Crab appears
Plot twist: Lao Shan Lung was running from the Shen Gaoren.
Shen gaoren is the predator. (Alien vs predator type). It collects skulls
Shen gaoren appeard first mate
The fight with the Lao Shan Lung is after the Shan Gaoren
@@opkiller6522 lao is from the first game shen is from mhfu uwu
Jafet Lanço Grelia That means lao has been running before shen was a thing idiot.
@@vinxcxcxcxc6354 look who I am replying to before you reply, you toxic piece of aptonoth poop
I read somewhere long ago that the lao shan you are repelling is just a baby, that they get way bigger, they grow for their whole lives and live for centuries.
Yeah you read misinformation. Lao isn't a baby.....
If it's a baby, then that's a big-ass egg... easily 200,000 chicken eggs' worth
Lao is a baby Zorah Magdaros
Lao means old rather if you wanna shorten the name just called it Shan Lung, Mountain Dragon
@ You realise that if you actually did research you would know Capcom themselves deconfirmed Lao being a baby right? Stop being a dumbass. it is not the truth. You just want a lame fan theory to be right. If it's true show your evidence. The burden of proof is on you.
Really the best part about Lao Shan Lung is when he shows up in Area 5, is the Monster Hunter theme song starts to play. It makes it really get all tied together.
Holy shit, that dragonator scream was BEAUTIFUL.
6:35
"Shish-kebabs!"
**GOAT SCREAM**
Lmao
A Giant enemy crab and attack its weak point to apply massive damage...I never thought about that joke while fighting a Shen Gaoren :P
It's amazing to see how these large monster hunts have dynamically changed over generations just looking back to Lao Shan Lung when compared to Gogmazios
I hope they bring him back someday
your words were heard
he will in mhxx
emad makhlouf now we pray xx gets a western release
MHXX has the Lung.
Jonathan Hargrove crazy thought but what if the ones we saw were just infants
The lao shan looks like the rathalos' fat cousin XD
+Jtbomb3000 It's what happens if you let a Rath eat too many Apnototh during hunts...^^
Gajin just wanna say thanks for uploading vids like this. I played mhfu and that was my start into the series, but i skipped mh3. So its nice to look back and remember old hunts and also see some i missed. So thx for your hard work.
I would love if they could like, take this idea of a fight against an unstoppable mountain of a monster just charging clear through a fortress and make it more than just 'wail on it until he dies'. Like, my image in my head is roughly something like...
You're dropped in the map like seen here and you're given a fleeting few minutes, the more players the shorter so there's a focus on multitasking if you have the luxury of more hunters, to prepare for the beast's arrival. You're given a huge array of unique equipment that's impractical for standard hunting use but made especially for something like a Lao Shan Lung; Super Pitfall Traps the size of the whole valley horizontally that take an extra long time to deploy but are big enough to actually delay the thing a good deal to let you swing at it's head, Barrel Bomb G+s that are just massive explosions, some kind of maneuverable cannon like in the Battlequarters except way better at moving to specific places that goes around the rafters above. Then when the dragon actually gets there, the fight is completely 'anything goes' as long as it results in the death of this huge monster, so you can do shit like blow up an overpass that is normally a bridge into the city as the guy is passing under it so you can pin him to the ground for a while under the rubble and do some fierce damage at the same time. Just do everything you can to make it feel like a one-monster siege.
... Alternatively, for when you're grinding and you've stopped giving a shit about spectacle, there's a huge gong all present players have to ring at once that signals for the guards to open the gate early and let the Lao Shan Lung right on in. He'd be doable without any of the aforementioned nonsense but it'd look a lot less cool since you'd just be wailing on a meatwall, but this is what you'd do when you straight up do not give a shit about looking cool anymore so there you go.
+Cobalt Kirikizan I'd like to see fights where you actually have to break through the monster's armor
Like you'd have to break off a horn or something to even get to the soft skin underneath
Such gating of damage in fights would make for some great changes to gameplay, especially with the mounting mechanics that I don't think they've fully explored with the bigger monsters yet
+Lazypackmule There a few monster similar to that i pas MH games like the Agnaktor i believe thats how its spelled.
+cobalt kirikizan you do realize the more hunters the harder the monster gets which is why when four people join a quest 3 of them leave and you alone will find it harder than usual to kill/capture the monster
Javier Rivera Um what?
+Cobalt Kirikizan This is a pretty good idea! Would love to see them try something like that in the future.
As an Chinese, I can say your pronunciation is pretty close so good job. I'm glad to see someone does a feature video about MH2G, I started at MH2 years ago and 2G is my favorite as always.
The bones you see sticking out in the primal forest in area 8 are those from a lao shan lung? I guess Fatalis got that one huh.
Mira Smit
Damn o_o
Mira Smit It's a dalamadur, in-game text stated it.
Mira Smit is fatalis really that strong? How does a huge beast like lao shang lung get scared of fatalis?
@@niggameat7140 well they said fatalis sawed a continent in half
MemeMan 2.0 and repaired it using only Flex Tape!
Who wouldn't find it memorable? It's just breathtaking, and it doesn't even have to do anything to be so.
Also, that final battle, when the Lao enters the fortress area, then the game's main soundtrack starts playing in the background. It'll give chills down to your spine, but in an excitingly good way. Making you believe that, "Okay, this is it. This is where all of those hardwork have led up to."
I'll never forget the first moments with Lao ;^;7
love your videos, man. I get some history and gameplay of the monster, as well as its context in the series. good stuff
10+ years ago, I was on a shopping tour with a friend at downtown. I was young and had 30€ in my pocket. Our objective for the day: Buy something special to eat and go home. Before we went to the next supermarket, we decided to have a short look at the next electronic shop. So many PS2 games... too many... my friend said: "Let's go, I'm hungry." I was standing in front of a bunch of PS2 games and wanted to pickup one of them randomly, while looking at him. We talked about food. I was hungry too, so the random game in my hand, was the last one I wanted to touch.
"Monster Hunter? Never heard of it..." That's what I thought first. Then I red the text on the backside of the game. "Hmm, sounds interesting..." I didn't expect, that this decision would change my life.
I bought that game for 20€. My friend did so too, because of the multiplayer part. We didn't expect anything...
Than, a few weeks later, we met our first Lao. It was an epic moment. A monster, which is unstoppable, walking and walking while it's been attacked by four hunters with massive firepower... and then the MH theme. OMG! IT WAS SO EPIC! Goosbumps!
At the end, we spend more than 500h with the first Monster Hunter game, bought each other MH game, the Manga and a bunch of franchise and merchandise stuff.
This game was next to Final Fantasy VII, my most favorite game of all time.
Thanks for the vids @gaijin_hunter
I have to say these are probably some of my favorite videos that you've made. As someone who started with 4 Ultimate it's really cool to see all these other elder dragons from the older games. I hope they put in Lao Shan Lung and Yamatsukami in MHX
I actually got a copy of Freedom Unite and 3 Ultimate digitally so it'll be exciting to fight those two in Freedom Unite
Man, really hope they bring back this guy in the next game. Giant monster hunting has gone a LONG way and its not as boring as it used to be. It would be interesting to fight this guy actually actively moving and fighting you the way Dire or George did.
And who knows, maybe Capcom would confirm the rumor that all the Lao we've hunt so far are babies and make a massive, full grown version of it (cuz lets be honest, Lao's size is not really that impressive now compared to the new giants). Think Shen's skull shell, but with it attached to an actual living Lao. Shit would be like 5x the size of a regular Lao and could swallow a Rathalos whole.
You must realise that Lao was only as big as it was because of the limitations of the design.
Any bigger and the only feasible melee targets would be his feet and tip of his tail. And we all know how much of a bitch those things were.
I really loved hunting Lao Shan because there's so many things that constantly go through your mind as you fight it the first time. You kind of get this sense of helplessness since it really comes out that you're not sure if you're doing enough damage to kill/repel, even more so if you're doing this hunt solo which I believe was more common when playing the first few iterations of the monster hunter games. Lao Shan was definitely a wall for me in Freedom Unite which was my first monster hunter game.
Who's hyped to see this monster return? I am!
I miss Shen Gaoren.
In chinese 老山龍 is pronounced similarly to "lou (similar to saying loud but minus the d) shaan loung" You pretty much nailed it gaijin :D
Looks like my chinese finally came in handy for something other than figuring out what element my weapon has on JP MH4G :P
great memories of fighting this guy back on ps2! he was such a different experience than all the other monsters up till the point. a lot of mystique being a newbie hearing about the mysterious Lao... then you see him and it's like WOW.. big boy... anyways, great vid!
I really like the idea of an elder dragon threatening each village. The story would be better for it, or maybe even a faction system where you can side with a village more, idk. It would be cool to have an Arzuros or a similarly challenging monster in the village at the start of the game and you have to fight it, if you lose the game would take an easier route, with npcs treating you as a scrub at the beginning, but if you kill it or drive it away, the townsfolk would respect you as a powerful hunter.
But the idea of Monster Hunter is to help each other. The faction system will just contradict the game's idea.
★ Cuddlepuff ★ I guess. I just didn't give a rat's ass about all the villager requests from the different villages in 4U and Gen. I hope they bring back the idea of just one single village.
That would be pretty cool.
Going through several villages and those several villages have their own quests, starting monsters and what not.
If a game was to bring all monsters from all monster hunter games, a system like that would need to be required.
I loved the giant monster fights in MHFU. My friends didn't like them, thought they were too much of a chore, but I always enjoyed how epic it felt, even for the 100th time.
And thank you for pronouncing LSL's name correctly. I've heard so many people pronounce the 'Lung' as Lung and not 'Long' 😣😄
But... Lung sounds cooler. :P
These monster feature videos are quite interesting. keep them coming!
I always imagined an elder dragon that is like a kraken. The fight would be similair to Mohran, but on water with multiple circling ships, which you can jump between as they pass one another. The monster has multiple tentacles so it can pop up on multiple spots. Furthermore, the monster can sink your ships, if all are sunk its a game over. You can sever every individual tentacle like you would sever a monsters tail, you can also jump on and attack the head as it emerges from the water. I also imagine a final phase similair to the dire maralis.
I dunno, just like imagining some possible monsters while I am playing monster hunter.
I was going to say Yama Tsukami when I saw kraken but I saw the rest of your idea, if they ever reimplement underwater hunting, tune it and make it more enjoyable, this would be a cool idea.
+The Will of G I had a similar idea to that one. Would love to see them try something like that.
AkatsukiKaizoku Underwater combat wouldnt even be necessairy I think
The Will of G They could probably rework the Cedaus into a kick-ass sea battle.
Imagine it sending a tidal wave towards the ship or waterspouts rocking the ship back and forth while you leap onto it's beard and start stabbing.
Aidan Webb O man that would be rad
Capcom: We don't want dragons in our game because then it would be fantasy.
Also Capcom: Puts wyverns into their games witch are fantasy.
I never fought this monster, but if it's the reason why we have Dalamadur then I love it! (I really love Dalamadur!)
Really enjoying these Monster Features Gaijin! As someone fairly new to the series, seeing these monsters that I've never seen before is pretty cool. Can't wait to see the next monster feature (hopefully an elder dragon :P)
I was waiting for him to mount it at the bridge part
THE MUSIC THOO!! How can we forget the music when Lao enters the final area. The epicness of the iconic monster hunter main these. sends chills everywhere
Really would like Lao to return to mhw as a siege mode like with kulve taroth
Just discovered your videos with this one, it's my favorite monster in the series, very interesting video.
Nice video, it is just a shame you didn't show that you can gen on the back of the Lao by jumping from the bridge, in order to put bombs and carve it.
+Glân von Brylân since he didnt play from early gens iirc, he might not knew that even
+MightyRathalos90
It was not impossible in the first gen ? I just learned something.
*****
i didnt say that, I said that as far as I know gaijin hunter didnt play MH since teh first gens, I guess he started with 3U. so he might just not know
+Glân von Brylân it was doable from the beginning.
+Glân von Brylân I don't like your avatar... something about it urks me...
Oh so the lao Shan lung armor was reused as bushi layered armor in MHW! That's pretty neat
Aero Blaze this makes me wonder if we’ll perhaps get Lao as a siege monster in world.
lol..that giant enemy crab reference though XDD
I was wanting for this video, thanks gaijin this guy was my first huge battle(:
6:39 ahahah that was a screaming sheep!
Thanks a LOT! Was hoping for a video about Lao, I never got that far in Freedom Unite because I had no time back then. I'd love to mount that thing. Funnily, the Ashen Lao looks much more intimidating to me than its regular version.
they should bring back the lao shang lung...this monster really introduced colossal monster fights even if it was not a direct battle but rather a way to stop his rampage.
A few years late and its unimportant info but the rocks that fall on top of Lao are supposedly the villagers of the town helping the hunter.
welcome back Lao Shan Lung to mhxx, we've missed you for far too long
did you know that lao shan lung wasn't really aiming to destroy the fortress, he's just despirate to destroy everything on his path so he can run fast and outrun fatalis. fatalis is about to kill him.
I wish they would have brought back the three fatalis in Generations
ikr
And I wish I could have gone back to Moga, BUT WE CAN'T HAVE EVERYTHING WE WAN'T NOW CAN WE?!?!
Well ive got news for you
the great editing and the knowledge made this an excellent product
*_GIANT ENEMY CRAB INTENSIFIES_*
I'm one of those weirdos that loves the giant monster fights in Monster Hunter. I don't like them as much as regular fights, but Ceadeus, Lao Shan Lung, Jhen Mohran, Zorah Magdaros, etc. are all fun for me.
I remember when both me and my older brother used to hunt this beast. Both our weapons were longswords and we use the dragon element ones... and another fun fact is that it takes 2-5 hunts to successfuly kill a lao shun lung, what we do is at the beggining of the game we stock up on ballista ammo up to max and then I go to the 1st area and wait for lao, my brother goes to the area going to the fortress and kill all the iopreys until they don't spawn anymore. I set up large bomb+ to the face of lao to easily destroy the horns and repeat, make sure to always stand on top of bridge to make lao take longer time to get to the final area. If you keep doing this mission again and again chances are you can kill lao in area 4 without him reaching area 5. When he finally appears on area 5 I have already carried my cannon ammo to the cannon and my brother is attacking the lao. once his body is Next to the mountain (not the fortress) you can start firing. I have the Artillery stat so it takes 2 shot from the cannon to stagger him. Also use all the ballista ammo first before going to the cannon since you can hit lao at long range with it leaving you with more time to get more ballista ammo and then go to the cannon ammo next. Just wanna share my experience with my brother since this was our 1st monster hunter. :3
You probably had a blast playing this I guess just makes me feel happy someone enjoyed this
you cant kill him before reaching the final area
Ive been hunting since day one of US release. Thanks for showing these Youngin's the old fights.
Dude Lao is my favourite ED ever (with the teostra coming in at a strong 2nd place). His music is bone-chilling and it gets amazing once you reach the final area. And it's super satisfying going into a low rank lao hunt with a g rank dragon weapon and just decimating it~
this was my first MH game :D
The Architect omg same 😮
Prolly the best scream placement yet. And the willy wonka track was perfect too
Now he is back in MHXX. Happy New Year guys!!!
The first MH game I played was MHFU and this quest was the most memorable one. I bought a PS4 two weeks ago just to play MHW and I'm really suprised about how my 8 year old self reached this level after remembering how hard it is to grind items and hit your combos back in the day. I'm just really happy that my uncle introduced me to this wonderful game and hopefully, I can hunt Lao Shan Lung with him again but in MHW soon.
from what I've read the lao we fight in the games is only a baby
I don't believe that, if you look at its horn, it's fairly large. The size of its horn indicates its age.
Aldrich Porn I'm just going off of what I remember the wiki said
Darkrai110 Oh, well the more you know, I guess :P
If you compare the size of the skull on Shen Gaoren to the Lao Shan Lungs you fight, you may find that Shen Gaoren's helmet is much larger than Lao Shan Lung's skull
LesNe The same could be said for all large crab monsters.
love the basic coloration the older monsters of the series had. this one is basically a giant wingless rathalos that crawls.
Is Lao an elder dragon or a wyvern
C Johnston elder
Lao's music has gotten some really great concert performances too.
Well, it helps that it, coincidently, is also the main theme for the entire MH franchise.
9:44 Brace yourself, the memes are coming.
Seriously though, nice combo.
+JGamer king I didn't even notice :P
Honestly to this day, this is the only monster that still instills fear in me. You fight this thing, hurting it as much as you can, fighting it to the best of you abilities. The monster smacks the fortress hard, time is low and all throughout the fight your wondering if you can do this. And then when 5 minutes are left, your heart pounds, and the fear begins to set it. "What if i cant kill it, is it within my power?" The timer counts down and you either repel it, kill, fail. And at the end you either left with a big smile and the adrenaline still running or the anger and disappointment of losing. Its a great monster.
at least Shen Gao Ren comes back in MHO lookin all HD and spiffy :3
+Eto Hige Gamer Culture
i wish i could play MHO, my computer SUCKS! plus i live in the middle of nowhere :p
I just want to add and comment on a few things:
Lao Shan appeared in low high and g rank in MHFU(2ndG). Whats interesting is, that on your current rank it is a pain in the ass to kill. The reason is, that in MHFU the best weapons were simply the longsword and the hammer (for really good players also the greatsword). A problem was, that the Longsword is actually the best weapon for him (imo) because you can permaspam your attacks, and the weakpoint for cutting weapons is the head, which is also the savest spot, because theres no wind pressure and you cant get hit easily. But at the points in the game where you have to fight him (exepct g rank) you not always had that good longswords. Now you can also kill him with the hammer. But its a lot harder. Because his weakpoint for impact weapons was the belly. And theres a lot of wind pressure, and you can easily get hit. Also getting away from him to sharpen your weapon is a lot harder.
Whats funny now is, that you for example go on the low rank hunt with g rank equip, you needed to be really really careful. The reason being, that his health cannot drop under a specific amount before area 5 (you cant kill him before that exept with cheats), but you dont know when the point is reached, and he will still stagger. So it is possible that you lose the quest, because the time runs out, before lao shan reached area 5 because you staggered him to often. And it really wasnt a hard thing to do. (Maybe this was also a problem when playing with 4 people. Dunno for sure tho)
Also got a little thing to add: You were able to jump onto him from the bridge after he attacked you and get 2 carves and place anti-dragon bombs.
Gaijin mentioned that it was possible to attack him with the balista and cannons, and that in multiplayer you maybe want to split the roles. Sadly the cannonballs were really, really far away in the base. Remember: You have to gather one, walk all the way to the cannon through area 6 while avoiding the iopreys, and then run back. Nobody did that. With the ballista i normally handled it like I took the ones out of the supply box and shot those at him, but ignored the rest.
The idea of lao shan lung and shen gaoren was cool. But in reality it sometimes was really annoying. Because you spend 35 minutes and in most cases only got a repel. And if you had to farm him for a gem, it took ages was just boring, because the first 25 minutes nothing happend.
So i would look forward to see him again. Because the idea was cool. But only if they changed the hunt, so that hunting and farming him wouldnt be boring for 25 minutes, then 10 minutes immense time pressure and then disappointment if you didnt get your carves. =)
only if MH4U can be upscaled and use a anti aliasing
+Vezix Haikal Just wait for that 3ds emulator man. Just wait.. ;-;
+Nova1Duke Just wait until the 3DS variant has HD graphics...
Wait, there is already a 3DS looking thing being made that is a portable WiiU?
Holy crap...
+Tauramos Wait, what?
Tamamitsune Brand Soap Yeah, forget what it is called, but it's a thing.
switch? ;)
Seeing that opening brings back bad memories of weekend-long farming...
GUESS WHO JUST GOT FUCKIN ANNOUNCED???
Arausito Dire Miralis?
Arausito Lao Shan Lung
Arausito LALALALALALALALALAO
Arausito YAAA BOII! LOA SHEN LUNG 4 MH XX!!!
HELL YEAH
I love this series, please keep doing it!
my reaction when the first time i actually kill Lao Shan Long... "WUUUUUUTTTT!!! I KILLED LAO SHAN!!!" (screaming and run around the house) then my mom scolded me. lol
The little and lovely Lao !! I really miss him !! I meet him in MH2 on the PS2 !! I hope to see him again ...
Acctualy gaoren weak' point is under is shell , need to break it.
+Rezard
You can also jump in the shell from the bridge, but be careful to get out before it one shots you.
I knew it!!! No wonder why using a bow is good enough to make Shan Gaoren fall.
This was the fight in Freedom 1 that I enjoined the most. Felt so good to take this walking tank down solo
Who do you guys think is the worst of the elder dragons?
My personal pick goes to Alatreon, mostly because his fight didnt feel like one based on skill but more on patience and luck. That and that there is always that one player who gets killed five times, at least with Mohran and this guy most people dont die.
Fatalis trio before they were redone in mh4u in my opinion weres the worst. Having to fight them multiple times was just tedious and using the guts skill to not get one shotted by everything was crazy. Beating them for the first time felt rewarding as fuck but trying to farm for the equipment felt mostly just tedious. Also there was no reliable online play so you were fighting them pretty much all alone.
+The Will of G
I really dont like Jhen Mohran. He's just a huge time sink and you basically are required to use a great sword if you're fighting solo and then he becomes a joke. Its those kinda fights that cause me to eventually quit every monster hunter I play
Otsisossi Hmm, I havent done them in mh4u yet, are they better there?
Because this sounds pretty ridiculous.
But I feel that's the thing with most elder dragons, I always find that they are very awesome on your first fight, but farming is for most elder dragons pretty awful. They often fall in one of two categories:
1: They become boring long fights (Ceaudeus, Mohran, Dalamadur etc)
2: Their difficulty makes them frustrating (alatreon, Ukanlos and prob fatalis)
Chameleos. This thing is cancer. All the ones mentioned above are imo not bad. Most disappointing one goes to Gogmazios, because its just so boring and the atmosphere is just bland and I really wanted that thing to become an awesome monster.
+The Will of G The fatalis trio is pretty nice in mh4u. They have a lot less hp so they die pretty fast but their moves are a bit faster so its not too boring either. They can be a bit too easy online tho because with ig you can just get as many mounts as you like and then have 4 ppl go ham on the head at the same time and that kills the strongest of the elder dragons in under 5 mins ._.
This guy looks awesome. I love the idea of a monster as more of this "Embodiment of Nature" deal where it doesn't care about the hunters at all and is set single-mindedly on destruction. I can imagine it makes the fight feel pretty damn imposing the first time you enter it: spending 30 minutes trying to take down a monster where it doesn't even acknowledge your existence and where you don't even know if you're attacks are doing any damage, just praying you can save the fortress in time.
First! (so you don't have to)
I have fond memories of playing MH1 online way back. This guy was always a dps race you weren't sure if you'd make it with the randoms that came in, so trying harder was fun. Knowing that he was running from Fatalis was also interesting, when you fought the smaller, more intense wyvern.
SHISH KABOB
Gaijin, please do a feature about Ceadeus.
Everything about the presentation in Tri is so epic it brings tears. ESPECIALLY the Ceadeus fights.
most boring fight i've ever experienced
I wish they'd bring him back and change his attacks up. maybe have a land tank much like a flagship? I can see a fight like that of the sand whale thing from the 3ds games. (forgot the soecies.)
Ceadeus is almost the same thing, but with the floaty water combat and nerfed attacks, making him one of my least favorite monsters. Lao looks really boring too, but I feel I should fight him at least once.
Gobul The Gobbler
well at least ceadeus fights u at *some point* , lao just ignores u
Amfibios Lao ignoring you is the point. He doesn't care about you, you're not scaring him. The only time he attacks you is when you're on the bridge. An opportunity to remove an annoyance, similar to how we smack a mosquito. He doesn't give a fuck about the hunters. *He doesn't care about you, the town, the Fort, or anything.* He just wants to get the fuck away from the Fatalis, and you just happen to be in the goddamn way of him.
I recommend you, go back to mh2, fight Yama Tsukami, tell us how you feel.
Honestly, I remember when I first got into MH was around gen 2. I remember looking up some of the monsters to get an idea as to what I could fight and what looked cool. Their weapons, armors, ,etc. And I saw the Lao. My first thought was "I want to fight that." I couldn't wait. When I got MHF2, I was busting my ass trying to see when I could fight it, and then I did. I loved the fight. It was intense. Figuring out what to do at first, getting knocked around all the time. The boulders, its legs, being smacked around. It was awesome. Then when you finally solo it and kill it with your own two hands, you accomplished something great. You didn't just climb a wall blocking your way, you tore down the mountain stopping you. It still remains as one of my fav elder dragons, I'd say top 5 tbh. It's such a simple, but destructive creature.
I like how Guts sowrd, the Dragon Slayer is just sat in that first room high up on a shelf.
The good old days of Monster Hunter. I love this game, played it since the PS4 days. If I ever die and can take one thing to my grave its going to be this game. n.n
Did you know? When you're mounting Lao Shan Lung's back, try make your self at the front of the back, where you're underneath it's spikes. When Lao Shan Lung flinch, you won't fall off. You'll be having a good ride while your teammates are fighting it.
crazy fight when I was a kid. absolutely loved it and it terrified me the first time I ran into it.
Couple of extra points from someone who played way too much mhfu. An incredibly important aspect of these fights was getting the monsters to flinch in the middle of an attack, so that they couldn't damage the gate. Lao was fairly straightforward. Use dragonator in the middle of an attack animation then go for the belly. Shen gaoren on the other hand was a pretty huge pain in the ass. You needed to figure out how many attacks made one of his legs red (and make him therefore flinch) so that you could make him flinch in the middle of an attack.
Another note is that most of the Lao fight was spent attacking it's belly, that was him main weak spot and it would make him flinch fairly often. The bridge is also important because you could jump on Lao's back and carve twice and drop anti-dragon bombs. The falling boulders could hit you mid-air as you tried to land and stop you. You could do the same thing with shen gaoren in the middle of his shooting the acid ball and jump into the open skull
God this brings back so many memories
You should do one about the Chameleos.
The way it changed would be a good topic as it shows how they updated and completely changed a monster through the series.
Back then, fighting a Chameleos was basically a 50/50
You had an awesome hunt or you had a time bad enough to yell to the monsters 8 times in 5 minutes.
Now it is a poison machine that won't let you heal and he doesn't even disappear anymore. I found it fun to try to locate him using sound and the fact he *litteraly teleported whenever he disappeared* was a challenge that you don't have with other monsters.
I remember when my friends and I hunted lao shan lung once. We made it flinch so much that it didn't reach area 5 and we ended up failing the quest because we ran out of time.
1st time - This is fun, time to save the town!
2nd time and above farming - GIMME YOUR HEAVENLY SCALE DAMMIT!
i wish there was animation (2d or 3d) of two monsters fighting it out. I dont even care if its official or fanmade. I feel like there has to be. Also I hope that for the next generation of Monster Hunter they make either Versa Pietru or Makili Pietru a monster you could fight. It left a lot to desire after playing MHStories imo.
In MHFU, NPC's tell that this gigantic dragon it's actually a BABY, running away from a Fatalis.
I've always thought to myself...
Can you possibly imagine how insanely powerfull and colossal a ADULT, Lao Shan Lung would be?
In my opinion, I think a adult would be able to:
• In MHFU, Lao Shan was strangely weak to Fire. Maybe because it couldn't control his FIRE BREATH YET? Yeah, that's right.
Fire Breath;
• How about Lao's skin? Blue Sharpness would do the trick... What if a adult skin it's so tough, that you needed PURPLE Sharpness just to scratch it?
Oh my... GOG. °_° ;
•Remember Lao's roar? Imagine if a adult could scream SO LOUD, that would, quite literally, create a SCREAM SHIELD of Dragon Energy that would send hunters flying sky high, and SHATTER the very ground?;
That would be awesome.
And incredibly TERRYFIYNG.
