As a nissan owner I generally would like to say that if nissan starts making cars with higher engine power in low price it would definitely grow. The sales of the Nissan magnite is just unbelievable and it seems like Nissan is growing too fast after releasing the Magnite. It is a very good car, I personally have this one (The XL veriant) and it has no problems till now, its look is stunning, its safety is also 4 star and it has a lots of features as compared to the price... The only thing that nissan is missing is the power as it has only 71 bhp and the engine is of only 999 cubic cm ...

We did a roadtrip from Delhi to Manali, a couple of years ago, in a rented Nissan Magnite CVT. I was apprehensive about how it would perform in the trecherous twisties of Himachal. But it performed surprisingly well! It made no fuss, the CVT was responsive, with minimal rubberbanding and that little 1L Turbo engine was so effing smooth, despite it being a 3cyl motor. It performed beyond our expectations. We didn't just take it to Manali but drove it beyond the Atal Tunnel, all the way to Keylong and back!
Anyway, as demonstrated by the Magnite, Nissan does have the capability to make good performing value-for-money cars but, at the risk of sounding like a high school teacher, they need to apply themselves a little more. They need to keep a lean portfolio, just like Volkswagen, expand their dealership network and spend a bit of moolah on effective marketing.

3 very uncomplicated steps that Nissan can take to revive themselves:
    1. Strengthen the Magnite: Being a successful car, this needs a facelift in probably 2 years from now and needs a more powerful non-turbo engine (Consider putting the 1.3 from Kicks) to keep this alive.
    2. Bring back the Micra: Take the current 1.0 kwid engine from the Magnite and put it in a facelifted Micra. A small hatchback with a small engine and with an entry-level price (4 to 6L) will sell like pani puri on a busy Bangalore street.
    3. More service stations. This doesn't need an explanation on why this is necessary.
Edit: Adding one more point as a general note. Nissan may be a premium car maker on a global level but if they want to thrive (not just survive) in a market like India, they need to target the entry-level segment. Because frankly speaking, people don't see Nissan like they see Audi, BMW or even Volkswagen. Nissan has already messed up their "premium" image by bringing the Datsun line-up here and hence they have no choice but to acknowledge it and use it to their advantage. Of course, it's also a heavily crowded market with too much competition from the likes of Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Tata, but with the right pricing and the right compromises, Nissan can find a comfortable position in this entry-level market.

And what you termed hopeless 75ps. 3cylinder engine, is a very pratical everyday car. The comman man doesn't ride like a f1 racer and is satisfied with reliable tech and other pluses.

How likely is Nissan to exit India?
I saw they now only have two cars on their website - Kicks and Magnite. Despite Magnite generating a lot of hype, its plagued by Quality/Fit & finish issues + generally bad experience with after sales service.
Political headwinds(our Govt. tightening regulations, increasing taxes on vehicles) + corporate turmoil(ousting of Carlos Ghosn, the guy who brought Nissan back from the dead) are only going to add on to the pressure.
How long before they shut down India operations? I was really hoping they did well with Magnite, and started adding more cars to the portfolio. Magnite was launched 2+ years ago.

A good number of Nissan models in South Africa have been sourced from India lately, those being the Micra, Almera (equivalent to the Sunny), Magnite, and the ill-fated Datsun brand.

    Nissan should consider the below
    1. Bring back new sunny (new shape)
    2. Bring Sentra as a premium sedan than sunny
    3. Work on a hatchback as their hatchbacks are discontinued globally I think. Consider new shape for micra as a budget hatch and may be bring Tida as a premium hatch

I think you need to make a case study on why American car makers are failing in the Indian market . Companies like Ford, Chevrolet and Harley Davidson. Tell what is something that Korean companies have done and American companies have not in the Indian market. Also I think a case study on Indian car makers like Tata And Mahindra having great sales but poor after sales service should be done. The Germans, Japanese and Koreans are better with after sales service but why the Indian car makers are not able to deliver the same.

I think Nissan only car right now which is magnite is a value for money and top of its segment car but many people put a blind eye to it just because of the uncertain future of the Nissan brand in India.. Same thing happend to me when Chevy left india.. I was left with a brand new car with a resale value less then a royal Enfield.

Nisaan is ruling in Dubai and Japan, India is very different kind of market, performance is not the key to success in India, only VFM cars with cheap maintenance would perform here.

Actually i felt in love with Nissan when I sat once in one of the luxury Sedan in Japan back then in 2001, No wonder it outsold the Toyota in their home. And you can feel that. Since then Nissan is my favourite brand but some how there is nothing that tempts me to buy a Nissan here in India.Sunny was there but the looks were not like the other Sunny

Unfortunately, I decided to get a Datsun. Nissan has the worst vehicle service in Bangalore, every time I took my vehicle for service it returned with a new issue. On the very first service after purchase, the check engine light came on and the barely one month old vehicle stopped in the middle of the road and refused to start.

Have the Nissan Terrano 2015 and needs a major repair almost every year.Lots of stupid leaks ,from leaking engine coolant seizing the engine to leaking brake fluid to leaking engine oil damaging the turbo.
We have to spend >40,000 every other year for repairs on this car. Also, the interior quality is below average.
Only the engine noise level is impressively low and mileage is like 18 on highway and the suspension is comfortable.
However, torque is atrociously low for hills and gearbox is crap, awkwardly short and hard throws.

I have a 2014 nissan terrano 110 diesel with around 76k on the odometer.
The car has been relatively easy to own and have faced none of the issues you've mentioned above. But i do have a fuel regulator issue that's popped up last week.
Hope the best for your terrano since i do believe they're overlooked and hated on with little reason. Much better than any kia, Hyundai on the road it terms of durability too along with the points you have mentioned.

Nissan kicks one of the underrated car in India, with great suspension, fantastic driveability, better than its competitors, good build quality, with decent features, I went to Tawang with Kicks, where there is no roads unexpected hairpin curves at 15200ft, it never disappointed me, I was amazed to see such good performance of the vehicle at that condition, but sadly due to lack of marketing and no updation, Nisaan Kills another Great car from its portfolio.

    Hear me out,
It's really sad and disappointing to see that Japanese manufacturers are quitting or you can say they are just not interested or something in making car like they used to,
    Eg - Mitsubishi, Nissan, Honda,
(I'm saying this on a global scale)
    .
If you guys just take a look at the past of these manufacturers you'll be surprised, the way these brands were motivated and confident is something remarkable, like they made some legendary car like Evo, GTR, NSX which are still loved by millions of car enthusiast, and now they all are vanished as if there was no past no legacy...
    .
Earlier these brands thought of selling their car internationally by bringing themselves at higher brand's level, after achieving it they continued it, but in later years it's gone because the new comer has no realisation of the legacy they are carrying forward...
