I think you'll find that Replicants were relapsing even before Nier started his little quest. The system is collapsing in on itself and the Twins are desperately trying to hold it together. Such a shame that neither Replicant Nier nor the Shadowlord are willing to do the things they need to do to fix it. That's the thesis statement of the game, really - neither Nier or the Shadowlord are in the right, because you don't have to be crazy to doom the world, just think yourself justified.
Gestalt Nier "saving" his sister only to watch her die from terminal illness soon after wouldn't give mankind hope though. Shoving those souls into bodies they no longer belong to won't change the fact that they are already corrupted.
This more-so falls under Neoclassical Power Metal for me, this kind of vibe is excellently performed by Galneyrus. The song Longing (their more somber version of Angel of Salvation) falls in a similar ballpark, and I guess Rain of Tears does something similar too.
Gotta love that you kept the buildup just like the original had. One of the best parts of the original is how haunting the first part is before going into full on epic mode.
"It was about 10 years ago when we were working on the original Drakengard that I thought about the meaning of “killing.” I was looking at a lot of games back then, and I saw these messages like “You’ve defeated 100 enemies!” or “Eradicated 100 enemy soldiers!” in an almost gloating manner. But when I thought about it in an extremely calm state of mind, it hit me that gloating about killing a hundred people is strange. I mean, you’re a serial killer if you killed a hundred people. It just struck me as insane. That’s why I decided to have the army of the protagonist in Drakengard be one where everyone’s insane, to create this twisted organization where everyone’s wrong and unjust. I wanted to weave a tale about these twisted people. And then we worked on Nier…We created this game called Nier, and after the world experienced the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the war in Iraq, we were being bombarded with updates on terrorist organizations and activities even in Japan. That’s when my opinion changed. The vibe I was getting from society was: you don’t have to be insane to kill someone. You just have to think you’re right. So that’s why I made Nier a game revolving around this concept of “being able to kill others if you think you’re right,” or “everyone believes that they’re in the right.”"
@@MonsteRNieR I know this is a late reply but I both Yonahs are real. The original Yonah basically says that to the Shadowlord. Both versions of either of them are just as valid, and she couldn't bear to keep Replicant Yonah away from her brother.
This is a song about doing whatever it takes, anything to save the one person who matters the most. Damning all the consequences, casting aside any doubts and simply forcing your way through any obstacle. A single minded determination that doesn't care about any other side of the conflict. Both sides of this battle see things this way, and it results in the end of humanity because of it. This song does such a brilliant job of capturing these apocalyptic stakes, a battle that was never meant to happen. This cover is amazing, thank you for creating it. The best part about the NieR Replicant remaster is now everyone can experience the original soundtrack that Automata borrowed so much from.
I just want to say, after playing this game, Grandma and Shadowlord became two of my favorite tracks in all of gaming, and your metal covers of them are some of the best music I have ever heard. Thank you for making me fall in love with this game's soundtrack more.
I haven't listened to your covers in a while, not totally sure why. Then this popped up on my YT homepage and ofc I clicked on it because Shadowlord is one of the greatest pieces of VGM ever composed. And you absolutely nailed this one. The classical intro fits perfectly. The playing there is particularly clean and fantastically mixed. And then the metal part hits. I wasn't the biggest fan of the rift intro before it fully comes in, but those doubts were instantly removed. Your rhythm guitar work is fantastic and captures the frantic energy of the original in a way that few other covers do. Love this one, guess I need to go back and listen to your other covers I missed then.

It depends. Combat, music, story, controls, visuals are all great and absolutely enjoyable, but there is a good amount of outdated design that you might not like. Is a strange and different game with a lot to appreciate and i love it, but not everyone might like, so do a little research and see if it is what you want

This game has been one of the few times I used headphones just to enjoy the music and I haven't been disaapointed. Like the acoustic half first then the metal after. Kinda apporpriate of what happens when you find the Shadowlord.
