At some point in the past few years, the local range was extended to 150 air miles. Within that circles, as long as you begin and end your day at the same terminal, you are not required to follow any of the hours of service laws. However, the instant you or anyone in your company leaves that circle, you must have electronic logs for the proceeding 7 days in the US or 14 days in Canada

In Southern California I believe it's in Mira Loma in front of the Nestlé building there is street parking I think it's actually legal. I have parked on the street in Los Angeles in the industrial area you could hear homeless people pushing shopping carts but meh. TA and Petro on the weekends in Ontario you can find parking later at night than ok weekdays. I15 south heading towards Ontario/Fontana area there is usually parking at tye TA in Barstow, the spots I find are kind of tight at night but they're usually there. You just have to try and plan your trip to accommodate the parking availability.

No, 150 mile air radius (meaning get a paper map, draw a circle around your terminal equal to 150 miles each way) as long as you stay in that circle, you can do a time card and delivery log. If you leave the circle for less than 7 days in a 30 day rolling cycle, you can run paper logs for those 7 days. Leave the circle for more than 7 days, gotta be on elog unless your truck is exempt because of age. Federal law, same for every state.

He runs in Texas. It’s common there because it’s so big with several major hubs. Border(laredo), Houston (port), Dallas Fort Worth. San Antonio

Man you should stagger (stair stack) the pallets so they load lock themselves. That gap in the middle allows to much shifting.

I’m local and sometimes go from MA to ME, MA to CT, and so on. Most of the time I stay in MA though but no, we can drive more than 100 miles and sometimes we don’t go home until the next day. It’s hourly as well and I wouldn’t trade it for anything else

    A quick lesson for everyone
    Local radius is 50 miles
Intermediate is between 50 and 200 miles
Long distance is anything over 200 miles.
The prices for each of these varies. Think carefully when establishing your business.

I run local mostly, we get a 150 air mile from our base of operation, no log books just running, my commodity transport is pretty much all cement powder hauling it to well pad sites under construction in West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania of course, pay runs on a percentage scale ranging from 26 to 30% on year four, I'm at 29% and living pretty comfortable home every evening and weekend

So, just a correction on the local part. That term is defined by the company most would say local is coming home daily or every other day. We also drive way more than 150 miles a day. You are able to drive as long as you have hours I cross between two state’s Washington and Oregon

My best friend's dad was what he dubbed "out of state/local". Not sure if it still happens nowadays (in modern trucking companies) but basically his home base was in southern California but he would drive as far up as Washington state and as far east as Oklahoma. So like, the whole western most half of the country.

Short haul is exempt from most of the maximum hours/miles. It does depend on your state, though
