Easy to do when I have to buy my own gear! I learned a ton this year. I'm glad I did it. Lot more time than I thought it was going to be! Thanks for watching
I’m new to your channel, but happy I found you. Your info, along with comedy, makes it fun to watch. You go into some great detail from a different point of view and I like it. Not the normal, “sits in my hand good, feels good, shoots good.”
Went to my local shop last weekend. Went in with a good intention of walking out with a VXR 31.5 that day. Tried it out, really liked it. Since I swore to myself that I’d try a few and not just one, I stayed a bit and was able to try two more. They also had the Bowtech and the Prime. I shot them “against” the Mathews in my head. I shoot a true 60#, with 28.5 draw. The Bowtech was nice on both settings but I liked the feel of the VXR better. I also shot it better. I wasn’t expecting much tbh from the Prime bc all I seem to hear is that it’s “LOUD” and it has 37 strings on it that could blow at any second. I’m not a pro and I don’t have any affiliation with any company, but I shot the Black 3 unbelievably well. I think it had something to do with (what you talked a little about) the grip. It also sat “low” in the hold. Meaning the bow felt very centered rather then wanting to fall forward or back a little. To me, the noise differential was minimal. Maybe my ears aren’t that good or I’ll just don’t know what to listen for, but I didn’t think it was a big deal. Maybe it’s because the bows are 60# and not 70#. Maybe that makes a difference. I’m not a shooter that has to worry about going through strings every two years, let alone every year so I got over the fact that it has seven strings on it. In the end, I was extremely happy I gave the Prime a chance because I shot it so well that I ended up buying the Black 3. In the end, hold and accuracy was important to me, and the Prime made me better. I got the all black one, which is my favorite color but I REALLY liked the Concrete gray with the UA camo’d limbs. Now that bow looked sweet. They had two, but both were 65# and I wanted to stay at 60#. Thanks again for you take on gear, I like hearing your approach to our sport.
Almost didn’t even consider the bowtech because this video. I’m a 20 year Mathews shooter with a few mixed in. But the Revolt X is the smoothest most accurate I’ve ever shot. By far!!
My son loved the new revolt, I like his backwall better than my new vxr. If I even let off that back wall a little the arrow wants to go. The revolt You could hold all day
I’m sure he didn’t tune the bow correctly. As someone who works in a bowshop, the RevoltX is the best bow out of all of these. It does not kick like he’s saying unless it’s extremely out of tune
So at the shop over the weekend shot 3 bows, the revolt, the vxr, and the new pse . My son son shot the same 3, I bought the vxr , he absolutely loved the revolt. THANKS FOR THESE VIDEOS YOU MAKE, THEY ARE SO GOOD.
Brandon I have to say ur content is very, very good. I watch a TON of videos and yours rank among the best in a multitude of categories, I subscribed, keep up the good work you absolute archery nut!!!!!
Thanks for taking the time to put all of this together. You do a great systematic review of your bows, and it’s very helpful. The funny thing is that I actually preferred the Hoyt when I upgraded this year, so that’s what I got. It just felt the best when shooting to me. To each their own, I guess!
@@brandonmcdonald6121 The 10 minute mark is probably a good rule of thumb to go by. But this video or series of videos is unique. Most multiple-bow comparison/review videos are done in a bow shop in a short amount of time. They are fun to watch. But you took it to the next level. You bought 5 bows from 5 well known companies and put them through their paces for months. You were able to change your set up, shoot them outside, shoot them at targets, and take them on hunts. You put yourself in the position to be able to compare and contrast them side by side for months finding the good, the bad, and the ugly, things you liked and didn't like about each bow. That is a unique perspective to have and to share. This is like the super bowl of bow reviews! Nobody's getting up from the couch on this one. :) And you're able to share your experiences about each bow in an unbiased manner. You bring humor, practicality, and deep thought to the table in your videos. That is great content that is interesting to follow and watch.
Been waiting for this. Well done. Looking forward to part 2! This should get a lot of views.....and a lot of comment! If the brand loyalists from Archery Talk show up here, it will make for solid entertainment. Your videos are thoughtful, helpful and well made. Bravo.
Thanks for the feedback. I've actually been really pleased with how helpful and open people have been so far. I hope that continues. While the channels still small I'll reply to as many comments as I can. I'm not afraid to block people if they get stupid!
I bought a CT9 last year and absolutely love it. I shot everything I could get my hands on, and while there's several great products out there, Prime did it for me. 1 year later, it's fantastic and I love it.
Glad you found your bow. Just cause it wasn't for me, doesn't mean it doesn't work for someone else. What's your draw length, out of curiosity. From the comments I've been getting, guys under 29 like it. I'm a 30.5"
Brandon Mcdonald that’s interesting, I was shooting 28inch before I bought my revoltx, admittedly I was collapsing my front shoulder somewhat, now I’m shooting 29inch and got much better form. I wonder if your torquing issue was the draw length not completely matching up for you?
Great content Brandon. How you approach your work really shows your passion for archery. Crazy good video shooting and editing as well. I also purchased a number of bows this year and sold my Revolt X, Mathews VXR 31.5, Reckoning and Hoyt RX4. It surprised me that I kept a PSE Evo 33 NTN and Carbon Mach 1. The 33 just feels so much better ... to me. First PSE(s) I have had in over 30 years. I respect Dudley and what he does for the industry, but I can't take the green strings so I swapped them out for camo Gas Ghost XV's. I made the mistake to shoot a Prime Black 3/5 the other day, so I might pick one up (had a CT5 last year). Please keep on with your vids ... awesome stuff.
I really need to get to a shop and shoot the evo. I shot the Mach 1, but it was at the shop I didn't want to deal with. It was also 60lbs, so it was impossible to even get a good baseline. I really want to try and Black 5. The 3 is an amazing bow. I'm with you on the Dudley colors. Im not a fan of the GREEEEEN.
This video was AWESOME! I ALMOST got a Hoyt last year but I felt the guy was pushing it a little too much.. So... I didn't even buy from him. The place I bought from literally let me shoot every single bow I wanted and answered my questions... And I went back 3 more times before I bought. Just whittled down my choices.
Don’t apologize for long videos. Your subscribers are people who geek out over bow stuff and who eat this kind of content up...i could have listened to more of this stuff for another 20 minutes...maybe I’m in the minority, but I don’t think so
Thanks for watching. I want to convey the information in an interesting way, and it gets tough when it's lots of math and measurements... Part 2 will be more interesting
No need to apologize for the length, man. You are bringing some grade-A content here! I think you're taking just the right amount of time on each part of these bows. I tried out the Hoyt, the Prime, and the Mathews. Ruled out the bowtech for the same reasons as you. I ended up on the Mathews, but I'm curious to see where you land, and why!
I tried out the Hoyt VTM this year at STX Archery. The bearings on the top left blew out on the second draw causing the cam the lean hard left. It was a catastrophic failure of a brand new bow.
I was an mfg manager at Hoyt. I left so I could shoot other bows (cough Mathews, cough Prime). I saw and felt the tech of other company's bows. Other than their riser, Hoyt is behind the curve.
I have been a Hoyt man for years and the Rx3 kept me from buying a new HOYT for awhile (if ever)! I've been trying to tune it in for stability for over a year NOW! The single pin BLACK GOLD SIGHT keeps floating! (no matter what I do! NOT THE SIGHTS FAULT........) . The back wall is mush! My point! I'M SEARCHING TOO!
Hoyt isn't dumb. They invested a lot of recourses into the RX platform. You know better than I what tooling up for a design takes. I have a feeling we will see something from them in the next year or two. I'd love to have Hoyt be my bow one day.
I love the grip & found something that didn't change it when I put it on. It was McNett Camo Form/Self Cling camo wrap by Rothco in a Kryptek Highlander pattern. It looks sick, doesn't change my instinctual burned into my brain memory handle on the bow & I cannot feel aircraft 82X when it's below 32*. U can unwrap it & put it back on & there & it won't unravel plus it leaves no residue. I didn't feel like I was putting ketchup on it either so there wasn't any guilt either.
I agree Brandon, they aren't stupid. But they've made some bad decisions that have cost them almost all of their core engineering and manufacturing team. Administrative boo boos, now most of their experienced team is gone. As far as tech, the ZT cam and a half system got it's inspiratuin fron PSE's evolve. They are still doing a laminate limb because they haven't quite figured out how to do a solid limb, particularly like PSE's limbs that are simple and can go hundreds of thousands of cycles without evidence of wear. I think they'll get the limb thing figured out, which will put them on par again. They're cam system is pretty good, though the split cable is kinda meh.
great reviews. I love watching your videos. I like the attention to detail. I went out and shot every bow manufacturer this year (prior to covid-19) and came down to two choices. Prime Black 3 vs. the Elite ritual 35. At the end of the day, I took home the ritual 35. If you haven't shot it, you need to.
I haven't yet. I'm super impressed with the Kure, it's only 30" draw so that may be the thing that keeps it off the top spot, but it's a great platform if you like to tinker.
Very nicely done and informative. I am just getting into archery and wondering if you have ever done the same thing for the more Mid ranged bows? I cant get to the Flagships yet especially just getting started. Would be awesome to hear your opinion or see something for bows in the $400-$700 range. Thanks for your videos
If I were you I’d buy a used bow that’s a few years old that I’d a flagship. Hoyt rx1, Mathews halon 32 etc. lots of options out there that are super solid used bows
So you didn’t like the split floating yokes on the Mathews but a split floating yoke on the string on the Prime is ok? Also you said the Hoyt had 3 piece string and cables but it is actually a 4 piece set since it uses a separate yoke cable on the bottom limb. Just wanted to point that out.
You're correct. I noticed that in editing so I held longer on the shot moving to the bottom of the rx4. I should have added a note. Rx4 is the only bow I've got the has the yokes on the outside of the limbs.
I liked your video before I even started watching. I love your stuff, brother! Another homerun like I knew it was gonna be. Also. We've spoken briefly about a bow has to properly "mold" to the person naturally. Meaning, it's gotta feel natural and not forced. For me, the bow of 2020 is the Revolt line from bowtech (no question about it). Next is certainly the VXR due to the bow checking off ALMOST all the things listed for a perfect bow, BUT, what an AMAZING time to be bowhunters / shooters! I'm looking forward to these next detailed reviews with great eagerness!
Love this comment. Just because I feel one way and you feel another doesn't mean we have to be crappy to each other! I'm glad you found your bow this year. Thanks for watching
Great vid. I’ve had 7 bows and none of them group like the prime. 3” groups at 90m with Victory arrows (on my channel) Also I personally think prime have the most efficient cam system this year too. I’m shooting a 500gn, TKO from my black 5 at 31” & 80lb at a blazing 305fps. I think they achieve this because they have so much more MOMENTUM rolling through the heavier dual track system than other bows. The genius lies in how they are able to leverage the poundage through the shorter fatter limbs and cable routes so that it still rolls quickly through the stroke and competes with the other top IBO rated bows... 🧐 Well done G5
@@brandonmcdonald6121 I tested the 3 vs the 5 at the Archery Den (I'm in your area) and the 5 has some magic to it over the 3. Shop tech who brought in Prime agreed with me but again, to each his own.
As soon as I have the budget, I'm going to try all of the flagships and splurge. I'm wanting to land a bow that will last for a few decades. The next bow I buy might even be the last bow I buy. These videos will help me make a more informed decision. Thank you!
@@brandonmcdonald6121 No pressure! Keep doing what you are doing. At the end of the day, I have to make the choice. The three that I was looking into the most are going to be in part 2. I'm looking forward to hearing your opinion.
If the the cost of the rx4 was one of the biggest reasons to cut the hoyt off the bat why didn't you look at the axius? Basically same bow but with an aluminum riser and drastically cheaper. To me the weight isn't the reason ti buy a hoyt carbon bow mainly because it's really not significant enough to justify the added price. Where a Hoyt carbon bow makes sense is if you live where in gets into the negatives like here in Canada. Carbon bows are alot nicer to hold in your hand after it's sat in the cold for hours vs an aluminum riser. They don't hold the cold or transfer temperature the same.
I shot the axius at the shop. I'm not sure if they just didn't have it setup or what, I honestly should have asked them to check, but with no stabilizer or scope it literally vibrated like a tuning fork in my hand. Sustained vibration after the shot. It was crazy. I'm with you on carbon in the super cold, but I've not really gotten into the world of shooting when it's super cold out. In Tennessee we get into the teens a couple days during the year... That's it.
@@brandonmcdonald6121 fair enough. I just brought it up as it seemed a logical step. But if you didn't like it in store that makes total sense. I also made the comment before I finished the video where you touched on the carbon. I was curious why you chose the 31.5 over the 28 vxr? I'm waiting on our shop to get both in at the same time to try them side by side.
Hmm, good question. They were my second choice behind a PSE until the issue with the shop. I actually really like the Elite. Tons of value in that bow.
I like the engage grip. I'm actually going to shoot the traverse with it on and the vxr with it off just to see which I prefer. I want to do a head to head between the two if I have time.
Dude you just killed my buzz, I was getting excited that you possibly picked the prime!!! I don’t like the “to be continued” stuff, I’m not patient hahahahaha
Oh I’m kinda wanting you to pick it, but I ment that you “possibly picked the prime” meaning that you left me hanging by not picking a bow in this video, now I have to wait and watch another video hahaha ... your very sneaky lol
Great Video, I tried several bows and I ended up with the Bowtech Revolt X in comfort mode. I have a 29 inch draw. So far I really love my groups. The bow just fits me well and I love the draw cycle. I am dialed in at 50 yards and will do 60 today before I put the tape on my black gold site. Again love your video!
I shot it at the shop. It vibrated so badly I wasn't interested in even giving it a shot. I think I want to try it again but have them check cam timing etc before I give it another go. Literally buzzed like a tuning fork in my hand.
It’s not how you shoot it’s not what the bow does it’s how you adapt and over come and make your disadvantages into advantages, I had a bow that was the absolute worst thing I’ve ever bought but with practice and learning the bow I learned quality means nothing it’s truly the archer if you know how your bow runs than you can adjust and over come, even tho I have many other bows this bow has always been my personal favorite because I became to know it so well and hit center no matter the day, sadly this bow has been stolen and is no longer with me but it showed me that life is a journey and to always adapt and over come it truly humbled me
awesome video !!! thanks for all the data on all the bows ! im in the market for a new hunting bow and will appreciate your recommendation i am 26 1/2 DL . i like the elite envision , the hoyt vemtom pro 33 and the bowtech solution . thank you in advance
I been shooting and hunting the BowTech Destroyer 350 since day one. Replaced cams, limbs, strings and cables along the way. Love that bow and still as fast as the top bows today. Maybe faster with the Barnsdale 70lb limbs. Countless bodies on that bow lol
Really enjoyed this video man! I've shot the VXR in 28 and 31.5, and the Prime Black 3 and 5 this year. I dunno where the next video is going, but the VXR may be the best bow Mathews has put out in forever. But that Black series, dude its sweet too. Looking forward to the next video!
I can see why Aron Snyder's wife recommended you to be on his podcast and talk about this two part series that you did. Thankfully he waited until after both parts were released. What a rather thorough breakdown of each of the manufacturers top bows (probably why you bought the carbon RX4 and not a price point equivalent to the others). I like how you broke them down into parts and characteristics, making it easier to understand for some out there that are not as familiar with the all the terminology. I know most of these are personal preference and feel, some might be better for someone with a longer than average draw like yourself others more forgiving and fit better for those with a shorter or an average draw of 28.5. But it is nice to point out the features and how they worked for you in your testing. Thank you for sharing, I myself am looking for a newer bow after this season if I can find a deal on a preowned one with a season or two on them. Many archers seem to be like pro bass fisherman and trade in their bow or boat for a new one every year or two. The difficult thing for me aside from cost is that I am left handed and I am not aware of a pro shop close by that has some demos that I can at least shoot of the higher level bows. I have a Cabela's and the best bow they have in LH on their website is a Diamond (by Bowtech) Deploy RTK package for $749, but they are hardly in stock nor do they have one out to shoot.
I agree with this one on Hoyt RX-4's weight. I chose this initially because it's lighter, but I ended up adding at least 10 ounces of weight on front and rear stabilizers. I do like how smooth the draw cycle on this one though. Looking back, I should've picked the heavier version (Axius Ultra) or the VXR 31.5.
Fun video. I'm not a hunter anymore but the analysis is interesting. I dabble in target and oly recurve. I've been eye balling Prime for awhile as a manufacturer, I might give them a try for my next target bow.
Man I wish you could have gotten ahold of the PSE NXT! I bought one this weekend from Outdoor Junction in Cookeville and it is an amazing feeling bow! I went the wanting a VXR but ended up leaving with a NXT.
I actually wanted to in addition to the rx4. When I shot it at the shop it vibrated so badly I literally didn't even want to mess with trying to get that out. I should have had them out it on the draw board to check timing. Only thing I can think of that would ha e made it that bad.
Brandon Mcdonald I say it. He’ll yeah that’s awesome. Keep the awesome videos up. I am looking to get a Hoyt torrex. ASAP. I hope you do videos on the xt and the regular torrex
That's fine too. Honestly I wish I still had my now from three years ago. This review will probably still be helpful for 5 years for people looking at used Black 3s and Revolt xs etc. Hope you're enjoying what you shoot!
Perfect rewiev of those bows. I actually thought about buying the bowtech revolt but seeing the problems with the aftershot vibration and hold, i think i am going to wait for the 2021 lineup. I bought the mathews vertix when it came out and it has been really hard to justify buying a new mathews or any other bow because the improvements are really small.
Small incremental improvement seems to be where we are right now. Physics is a tough but to crack, so I doubt they get much faster. Balance and noise will hopefully start becoming more of the focus.
A former engineer that is retired named Joe Marzulla has done some very good short videos on vertical nock travel tests. Several independent tests on different brands. The Prime Centergy is probably the gold standard in this test.
@@brandonmcdonald6121 Totally independent & unbiased like u. He's into the science & all the bows he tests r owned by people that bring them to him. People would be amazed by how bad their bows test. Considering the Prime bows have the center of their bows in the grip & not above shows their design holds up the best under testing.
I shot it at the shop and it vibrated so badly on the shot I didn't even want to go farther. That said, I regret not putting it through a quick tune to see if there was something out of whack. Maybe next year...
Brandon Mcdonald Even though I’m gonna get picked on a lot I think I’m gonna get a crossbow for now that’ll give me more time to pick out a nice compound to practice with for next year. Plus all of the stands I hunt will be much easier with a xbow
I always look forward to your content. I shot the Prime and the Mathews Tactic and went with the Tactic for one reason and one reason only: the Prime had a rock solid back wall due to the stops on it. I felt it was a short term gain for my resistance tension release, and I needed the spongy back wall to get the benefits of this type of release. It was a long ride home, where I went back and forth on my decision.
It's funny, I actually prefer the "softer" back wall of the VXR as well. I may need to slow down into the wall but the Prime is like hitting a concrete wall. Actually hurts my tendonitis.
Loving this series, from the School of Nock stuff to the down and dirty bow reviews👍👍 I was not a fan of the Carbon Hoyts either, but I did shoot the aluminum Axius ultra before buying the VXR, and it was a hard choice for me, and that one didn’t have the heavy price tag!
I shot the axius as well. It vibrated for almost 2 seconds after each shot. I literally times it at the shop. Ive always wanted to spend some time with the RX. Glad I did it, but it's not the best fit for me
Please do not apologize for making a 17 min video, especially when you are breaking down, and comparing 5 different bows. I had a similar conundrum, I actually purchased both the VXR and the prime black. Loved both of them, they just shot super well. High points of each Mathews is incredibly quite, barely makes any sound at all. And wow it’s fast. Mathews is really onto something, also very smooth draw back at 60 lbs. the prime, smooth draw as well, and very accurate. Not very quite, kinda loud actually, but love that hand grip as well, the bow looks kinda funky. But dam I love the way it shoots
I feel pretty much the same way. I had someone recommend a way to quiet the prime down. Haven't tried it yet, but it it works, I'll tell everyone in the next video. I actually love the way the Prime looks.
@@brandonmcdonald6121 The Prime is definitely growing on me. Had it out this weekend and the groups at 45 yards were exciting. Great videos man. Keep it up Just hit the subscribe button. Appreciate it
I watched a guy break a bowtech at the rhinehart 100 shoot I went to last year. The cam just completely bent and the bow was out of commission. My local store refuses to carry them.
The Bowtech Realm SR6 is a flawless speed bow, i have one and i bought it brand new and it has never failed me or had tuning troubles its amazing. Shoots 252 ibo in performance.
Bows are getting so ridiculously expensive these days. People are going to take longer to make the right choice for that type of investment. Nice review.
I turn out pretty hard but I shoot the other bows the same and didn't have issue with them doing it. I shot and sr6 at the shop just to see and it did the same thing for me. Must just be me and that grip.
VXR and NXT. If you have not shot shot a PSE NXT, you should. Even an older PSE DNA with string stops set 1/2" back for 85% let off is very nice. I picked a brand new one old stock with factory tags still on it.
I went to a store in Kentucky about an hour and a half away and shot the NXT Evo. It was a great bow and I'm sad it wasn't in the review this year for me
one of my core factors was to have a local shop that carried the bow and would do work if I needed anything done. I've heard great things about them this year though.
Little story.... The cams of my prime black 3 collapsed some days ago. At half draw i had the feeling... The draw weight was double.... No dry shot.... The material in the area of the bus cables bend on upper and lower cam.... I have no more confidence in this bow
" she said she was the best and she came from a good family and I was a devoted spouse for years and never ever cheated on her.....SHE'S BEAUTIFUL TOO and I WANTED TO LOVE HER ...........SHE DOESN'T PERFORM IN BED!.......I've BEEN BETRAYED an I'M GETTING A DIVORCE FROM HOYT SOON!"
I do appreciate your take on these bows. It always comes down to preference and listening to your preferences are understandable. You just have to shoot the new models and choose. It took you half the year to choose. Remembering the next year models does not mean better just cause there the newer models. You planning on doing any reviews on Golf Clubs. 😂
I kind of did this last year, but went to the bow shop and shot all the bows and "Let the bow choose me". Side note, I had somewhat subconsciously decided to finally give in and try a Mathews, but after shooting all the bows MAthews draw cycle to me was the absolute worst..... I like Hoyts but the back wall was squishy and loud, but jeez I shot the Bowtech and fell in love with it. Like it actually put a smile on my face after shooting it. I couldn't believe it and I wasn't even thinking about the Bowtech. So that's the one I got. I am a 28" draw...
Brandon Mcdonald that’s great man😎. I’ve owned a few of the newer bows but figured I would go old school this year lol. Keep up the great videos and content👍😎
Thanks for taking these time to do this! Which one is easiest for a guy to tune himself? That's the one thing I love about the Hoyts. So easy to tune for the diyer.
His reaction to the “hold” of the Mathews. Nothing like a Mathews at full draw and why it’s SO hard for me to get away from them. They do not move. Not to mention the after shot sound/vibration
Really like this series because you don’t seem biased and just want the best bow. Great video. Thanks.

My son loved the new revolt, I like his backwall better than my new vxr.
If I even let off that back wall a little the arrow wants to go. The revolt You could hold all day
The Revolt is highly adjustable. Guessing this dude just didnt spend the time reading how and adjusting it to his shooting style.
I’m sure he didn’t tune the bow correctly. As someone who works in a bowshop, the RevoltX is the best bow out of all of these. It does not kick like he’s saying unless it’s extremely out of tune

Great video. It doesn’t feel long when it’s good content.
Thanks. I get worried when it goes over 10 minutes...

I'm a 100% target guy but just wanted to say how much i enjoyed this video. Nice format, thoughtful and honest. Keep up the good work on this!
Thank for watching!
Been waiting for this. Well done. Looking forward to part 2! This should get a lot of views.....and a lot of comment! If the brand loyalists from Archery Talk show up here, it will make for solid entertainment. Your videos are thoughtful, helpful and well made. Bravo.
WHAT BRANDON GET'S IS WHAT TERRY GET'S !
Thanks for the feedback. I've actually been really pleased with how helpful and open people have been so far. I hope that continues. While the channels still small I'll reply to as many comments as I can. I'm not afraid to block people if they get stupid!
I knew that the gap in between the last video & this 1 was because of you were doing your due diligence. Bravo!
You'd think during a lockdown I'd have more time, but for some reason I'm busy! Thanks for watching.
I bought a CT9 last year and absolutely love it. I shot everything I could get my hands on, and while there's several great products out there, Prime did it for me. 1 year later, it's fantastic and I love it.
Glad you found what you like. Lots and lots of people on the Prime train now.
Brandon Mcdonald no regrets brother!
I didn’t know Tom Morello bowhunted
Haha! I do get that a fair amount. Pretty funny.
Maybe you do a deer hunting video and open with “killing in the name of”
In the name of fresh venison!!!
Bowtech revolt x was my pick of all the bows I shot this year. Comfort mode
Glad you found your bow. Just cause it wasn't for me, doesn't mean it doesn't work for someone else. What's your draw length, out of curiosity. From the comments I've been getting, guys under 29 like it. I'm a 30.5"
Brandon Mcdonald 28”
Thanks for letting me know. Ill say something about the shorter draw length in part 2. I may also try 28"
Brandon Mcdonald no worries buddy everyone is different.
What'd you go with?
@@brandonmcdonald6121 Obsession Hemorrhage.
@@brandonmcdonald6121 and like somebody else said, good content and the video does not seem long at all. Home run hit!
Don’t apologize for long videos. Your subscribers are people who geek out over bow stuff and who eat this kind of content up...i could have listened to more of this stuff for another 20 minutes...maybe I’m in the minority, but I don’t think so
Well, there's at least a part 2, so there's plenty more coming. Thanks for watching
Excellent production value. High quality. Content is on point. Caught my interest and held it to the end.
Thank for watching. Working on part 2 now. Shouldn't take as long as part 1. the VXR is a great bow. I'm impressed Mathews keeps upping the game
I tried out the Hoyt VTM this year at STX Archery. The bearings on the top left blew out on the second draw causing the cam the lean hard left. It was a catastrophic failure of a brand new bow.
awesome job . i still shooting the mathews creed single cam bow still loving it
People love those bows. Thanks for watching
Still in love with my Z7 Extreme.
Hi
Is there any chance to make review one of Darton bows
Not this year, but I'll look into them
great reviews.
3” groups at 90m with Victory arrows (on my channel)
Also I personally think prime have the most efficient cam system this year too.
Well done G5
I'm impressed with the 3. I really want to shoot a 5. I'll check out your channel.
Brandon Mcdonald my channel is terrible. Please don’t, you will save me the embarrassment lol
Those numbers are not at all great. 80lbs....31 inch draw...305fps?
My obsession fusion at 68lbs 29 inch draw and 445 grain arrow is shooting 289 fps
@@brandonmcdonald6121 I tested the 3 vs the 5 at the Archery Den (I'm in your area) and the 5 has some magic to it over the 3. Shop tech who brought in Prime agreed with me but again, to each his own.
Great video bro. Can’t wait for part 2!
It's out! Check my page. It's a good ending!

I enjoy your videos too. Thanks for watching
What are your thoughts on the pse evo ntn 33?
stop apologizing for your amazing in-depth data! It's awesome! Thanks for taking the time to do this! Love my VXR 28! Hold better than th 31.5 imo
What's your draw length? Just curious if shorter dls like the shorter bow
As soon as I have the budget, I'm going to try all of the flagships and splurge. I'm wanting to land a bow that will last for a few decades. The next bow I buy might even be the last bow I buy. These videos will help me make a more informed decision. Thank you!
Wow, lots of pressure now! I hope the reviews help you make a good decision.
@@brandonmcdonald6121 No pressure! Keep doing what you are doing. At the end of the day, I have to make the choice. The three that I was looking into the most are going to be in part 2. I'm looking forward to hearing your opinion.
I'll probably keep my kure till it rots lol. I just don't think there's a smoother or easier bow to tune. I tuned a 640 grain arrow in 6 minutes
I really enjoyed this video. It’s a regular guy giving apples to apples comparisons on the new bows.
Is elite a leading manufacturer?
Hmm, good question. They were my second choice behind a PSE until the issue with the shop. I actually really like the Elite. Tons of value in that bow.
In the Traverse review you liked the grip. Just wondering what changed. Also, any feedback on Traverse vs VXR 31.5? Thanks.
What makes you think I didn't pick it? Three bows left!
Oh I’m kinda wanting you to pick it, but I ment that you “possibly picked the prime” meaning that you left me hanging by not picking a bow in this video, now I have to wait and watch another video hahaha ... your very sneaky lol
were they all pretty much the same length axle to axle
Close.
Great video. I’m looking into buying a new bow this year and this was very helpful with my decision. Just one question, why no PSE?
Great Video, I tried several bows and I ended up with the Bowtech Revolt X in comfort mode. I have a 29 inch draw. So far I really love my groups. The bow just fits me well and I love the draw cycle. I am dialed in at 50 yards and will do 60 today before I put the tape on my black gold site. Again love your video!
John, this is exactly the response I wanted. People can like different bows and we can both still be happy. Thanks very much for the comment.
Why didnt you shoot the Axius ultra instead of the rx-4 ? May have solved your weight issue and the price issue as well.
I shot it at the shop. It vibrated so badly I wasn't interested in even giving it a shot. I think I want to try it again but have them check cam timing etc before I give it another go. Literally buzzed like a tuning fork in my hand.
It’s not how you shoot it’s not what the bow does it’s how you adapt and over come and make your disadvantages into advantages, I had a bow that was the absolute worst thing I’ve ever bought but with practice and learning the bow I learned quality means nothing it’s truly the archer if you know how your bow runs than you can adjust and over come, even tho I have many other bows this bow has always been my personal favorite because I became to know it so well and hit center no matter the day, sadly this bow has been stolen and is no longer with me but it showed me that life is a journey and to always adapt and over come it truly humbled me
Glad you found a bow you like, and obviously I'm sorry it was stolen!
I really like your longer videos! No problemo for me.
Thanks for the feedback. I just worry that going much over 10 minutes loses people.
Good clip . I bought the Hoyt rx3 last year right before the rx4 came out . I agree I could just never get it to sit right.
awesome video !!! thanks for all the data on all the bows ! im in the market for a new hunting bow and will appreciate your recommendation i am 26 1/2 DL . i like the elite envision , the hoyt vemtom pro 33 and the bowtech solution . thank you in advance
I been shooting and hunting the BowTech Destroyer 350 since day one. Replaced cams, limbs, strings and cables along the way. Love that bow and still as fast as the top bows today. Maybe faster with the Barnsdale 70lb limbs. Countless bodies on that bow lol
Nice. Glad you have something you like
Thanks for your insight. Have a Traverse, and new to shooting a bow. Always look forward to your videos.
You started with a great bow. It's the only bow I've kept for more than 1 year.
This is an amazing video, thank you so much for the detail and quality of the video, and thank you for sharing!
It's still a great bow. Good luck this season!
Really good video! I like the content and review !
Thank for watching!
stop apologizing for quality content. high quality edits, audio, and solid advice should not be free. respect.
Fun video. I'm not a hunter anymore but the analysis is interesting. I dabble in target and oly recurve. I've been eye balling Prime for awhile as a manufacturer, I might give them a try for my next target bow.
I'd love to try the black 9. Really enjoying the black 3. I don't think you'd be disappointed.
Man I wish you could have gotten ahold of the PSE NXT! I bought one this weekend from Outdoor Junction in Cookeville and it is an amazing feeling bow! I went the wanting a VXR but ended up leaving with a NXT.
Overall the noise I've heard has been PSE, Mathews and Prime. I really want to shoot one. Might have to drive to Cookeville!
Get on that drive
Why not have the axius in this line up rather than the rx4?
I actually wanted to in addition to the rx4. When I shot it at the shop it vibrated so badly I literally didn't even want to mess with trying to get that out. I should have had them out it on the draw board to check timing. Only thing I can think of that would ha e made it that bad.
@@brandonmcdonald6121 yeah the 4 is the most vibration free carbon to date. must have had some issue.

I want one! I'll put in the time to go shoot one when I wrap up the videos I've got on the table.
Brandon Mcdonald I have the NTN 33 and am loving it so NXT or NTN are awesome!
This is the best comment yet. I shot all 4 back in February and ended up buying the NXT 33. Just a great shooting bow.
What do you do with all of the bows you don’t like??
Check out part 2 and you'll see what I did.
Brandon Mcdonald I say it. He’ll yeah that’s awesome. Keep the awesome videos up. I am looking to get a Hoyt torrex. ASAP. I hope you do videos on the xt and the regular torrex
How bout the best bow for 2020 being the one you used last year and the year before? I don’t get this idea of buying a new bow every year or so.
Great review, interesting that PSE wasn't in the line up.
Watch me "no PSE" video and you'll see why. Shop issue...
A former engineer that is retired named Joe Marzulla has done some very good short videos on vertical nock travel tests. Several independent tests on different brands. The Prime Centergy is probably the gold standard in this test.
On occasion I have questions that an engineer would be able to answer. I need to reach out to him.
Curious why you didn’t test an Aluminum from Hoyt for a more apples to apples comparison?!
I shot it at the shop and it vibrated so badly on the shot I didn't even want to go farther. That said, I regret not putting it through a quick tune to see if there was something out of whack. Maybe next year...
What do you think of the Hoyt torrex?
Haven't shot it yet. I actually stopped by a shop this week to see if they had one for me to try but they didn't.
Great content mate!.
Thanks for watching!
Glad I did it, but it's not the best fit for me
Love your videos mate, next year I’d really urge you to consider the Prime Black 5. The 6” brace height really makes a difference.
I wanted one bad this year. I may do longer bows this coming year. It'll be interesting to see what the companies come out with
Please do not apologize for making a 17 min video, especially when you are breaking down, and comparing 5 different bows.
I had a similar conundrum, I actually purchased both the VXR and the prime black. Loved both of them, they just shot super well.
High points of each
Mathews is incredibly quite, barely makes any sound at all.
Keep it up

I watched a guy break a bowtech at the rhinehart 100 shoot I went to last year. The cam just completely bent and the bow was out of commission. My local store refuses to carry them.
I might be being too hard on Bowtech, but Ive heard too many stories like this one
all i want speed bow , but to bad no speed bow come out 2 year now , still waiting speed bow
Am I the only one who noticed how bad his grip is when shooting the bowtech? Around 1:15 mark
I turn out pretty hard but I shoot the other bows the same and didn't have issue with them doing it. I shot and sr6 at the shop just to see and it did the same thing for me. Must just be me and that grip.
The bowtech didn't have a limbstop? I have a 2019 convergence and it has a limbstop
Nope. Elite was the only one this year
So did you get those lighter wheels on your motorcycle?
Not on the moto because they were about 3k. I did on my last trek road bike though! 😁
You reviewed the bows so well im going to stick to a recurve
Haha! Much respect for the recurve shooters.
You should try an APA Bow .. I belive it to be the best hunting and target down all round. Well built and great features.
I'll look into it. Thanks for recommending.
I shoot a Quest G5 from 2010 and I love it. But if I could I would buy a APA but I cant justify buying a new bow right now
VXR and NXT.
It was a great bow and I'm sad it wasn't in the review this year for me
No BEAR compound bow ?
No. Maybe at some point.
No mention of obsession?
That's what I was thinking i love my obsession smooth and fast no vibration
one of my core factors was to have a local shop that carried the bow and would do work if I needed anything done. I've heard great things about them this year though.
Great review. Would have good to see you run the PSE NTN EVO
Still hoping to get my hands on one. We shall see.
Love your content. Brandon Mcdonald keep the awesome work!
Little story.... The cams of my prime black 3 collapsed some days ago.
At half draw i had the feeling... The draw weight was double.... No dry shot.... The material in the area of the bus cables bend on upper and lower cam....
I have no more confidence in this bow

Hahahaha! I've seen lots of people jumping ship! I think they'll come up with something innovative next year.
All I need is one more hobby that costs an arm and a leg and takes a ton of time! So... Golf review channel coming in 2021! Jk.

I bought a quest thrive which is made with 82X aluminum and the grip is amazing.
I'll have to look I to it. I'd like to look at some of the more boutique bows.
why not PSE in the mix ????
Bad shop interaction. I made a NO PSE video. I eventually drove into Kentucky and shot one. Really liked it.
I called it at the beginning that it would be between Mathews and prime 🤔
And the Elite
So I'm new to this channel but I'm still a little stunned that Tom Morello has time to test 5 bows, practice the law and to play in 3 different bands.
I get that at least once a week!
Which Mathews did you try? Glad you found your bow! Nothing like a piece of gear that actually makes you smile. That's great
Vertix
I’m setting here and saying WOW! I wish I had that many new bows. You’re a lucky guy😁. I’m still shooting a old Mathews mq32 and Pse omen lol
Took some sacrifices in other areas but it was important to me, so I made it happen!
Brandon Mcdonald that’s great man😎. I’ve owned a few of the newer bows but figured I would go old school this year lol. Keep up the great videos and content👍😎
Do you live in the Nashville area? My sister in law lives in Franklin
Thanks for taking these time to do this! Which one is easiest for a guy to tune himself? That's the one thing I love about the Hoyts. So easy to tune for the diyer.
Bowtech and Elite are the easiest if you like being really picky.
Guess I'll stick with my Bear Cruzer for another year after hearing your review..thank you sir bravo.
Haha, enjoy it! If you've got something you like, keep it!
His reaction to the “hold” of the Mathews. Nothing like a Mathews at full draw and why it’s SO hard for me to get away from them. They do not move. Not to mention the after shot sound/vibration
My two favorite parts of the vxr, and the new v3... It's even better
