How to install OpenTX on an FrSKY Horus transmitter

While I've made every effort to show this tutorial as simply as possible, and cover all aspects. I do not take any responsibility for for issues that you may have during this procedure. As illustrated, it should work perfectly fine. But if you perform this upgrade you do so at your own risk. I have heard that people have had issues were the transmitter will not turn on. However, if your transmitter makes a noise when you attach the USB to your computer, it is not dead. If this happens, all I can suggest it to:
- leave the transmitter switched off
- Plug in the USB to the transmitter and the computer
- Use the ImpulseRC driver fixer (link above) to ensure the transmitter is in DFU mode
- Use OpenTX companion to flash the correct version of OpenTX to your transmitter • How to install OpenTX ...
This will hopefully bring the transmitter back. If not, unfortunately, you will need to contact your country's main FrSky dealer for a repair.

Superb video Mr D. Have used a Taranis X9D for a few years now & today upgraded to a Horus X10S Express. After following your instruction to the letter; my Horus now working on Open Tx. Time to fly I think; well sim for now, until we end this lockdown. Thank you.

I have the HORUS X10S ACCST FrOS with HW EC14 - SW Ver 1.2.05 - and want to load the l latest HORUS FW-FrOS & IXJT is Ver 1.3.07 - -can I use your excellent procedure to do so ...joe

Hello Darren - using your procedure - unzipped Ver 1.3.07 which gave me a file FW-X10-X10S-v1.3.07 size 15.2MB - - opened this up to 'my bin file' .....X10_EU_1307_0314_frtx.bin size1937KB copied this to the FIRMWARE file of the SD card placed it back in the Tx switched ON ....startup/home screen no change and the Firmware still the same....where have I gone wrong!!??...joe
does elrs or crossfire work with this radio out of the box or do you have to install edgetx?
Both Crossfire and ELRS will work with the latest version of OpenTX. I would not install EdgeTX personally. It only improves things for touchscreen transmitters.
You will need to install the latest ELRS and/or Crossfire LUA Script. No matter transmitter firmware you use.
Any suggestions on getting any of the lua scripts working? Specifically vtx control.
I’ve not had a problem with the INAV LUA script. Just set it up as a page and it was fine. I could make a video for this. VTx control I just do through iNav.
Mr.D - Falling, with style a video would be great. I don’t use inav, I use betaflight. The info I have been able to find is at least 2 years old.
I’ll add it to the list. It will be a quick video to make, so I’ll make it soon.
It doesn’t matter if you’re using betaflight or iNav. Running a LUA script will be the same either way. Same if you wanted to run the Crossfire LUA for example. I’ll get a video up soon 🙂

Nope, Crossfire works at full speed on the X10S Express with no internal mods needed.
@@MrD are the switches on top the same ones as on the x9d? Id like to add the switch rubbers if I go this route.
They look pretty similar to me. I have the trapezoid rubbers on my X9D. I’m sure they’d fit on the X10 switches too.
Hello, I was trying to change to open TX and I think I did something wrong, know my transmiter doesn't work not turn it on.
What can I do??
What have yo done so far? It’s very hard to offer any advice without knowing what you have changed.
I take it you still have the backup files.
When the installation finished was wrong, I tryied to put the original version and I couldn't them the transmiter is Death. Not turn it on
@@Calcano_HD what happens when you connect a USB cable? Does your computer make a sound when it connects.
Nothing in this should stop your transmitter turning on.
Sorry, but I'm not going to text you. Also, it's probably not a good idea to put your number on a public web site like this.
However, if the USB makes a sound when you plug the transmitter in to the computer. Plug it in, but don't try to turn it on. Use the ImpulseRC driver fixer to get the transmitter in to DFU mode.Then use OpenTX companion to install the correct firmware. ruclips.net/video/G0xXKDEKeZ8/видео.html
If this doesn't work, you will need to contact your local FrSky representative.

Latest windows anti virus blocks this have to allow it in the security settings. Impulse needs to get this software approved by Microsoft.
I had this pop up. I don’t use Microsoft antivirus, but bit defender block it also. I just added it to the exceptions list and it works fine. The antivirus needs to change as it’s reporting a false positive. But it’s also easy enough to tell the antivirus to ignore it.
Forgive my intrusive comments but I’m thinking of a satisfying way of getting my own back on my 10express. Basically I couldn’t bind the militant thingy to any thing so I tried to upload it with open Tx.
After deceiving myself into thinking i was capable of what apparently is a simple process…. I’ve got a useless lump of plastic I want revenge on. I’ve spent days on trying to get it working again and all I get is a sd config message. It doesn’t even laugh at me.
Part of me wants to take it skyward alight, and drop it from 400 ft on my DJI fpv onto the local church with a curse.
Please help 😢
