I understand how you make the first model on your radio., but how do i add a new model after the first one(so second one and third...) and do this on the radio itself. also when you have more then one model (currently i have only my xsr sim dongle setup) how do you go to your "list" of models. maybe this is sort of the same answer to two questions but i feel like i looked everywhere and can't find it. sorry for this newbee question , but all tutorials only mention the first model (which is easy to find)
Ok, I setup my T16 and got it ready to go. Went on my first outdoor flight and my drone went into failsafe due to RxLoss. It was still within line of sight and much shorter than the distance with my cheap transmitter that came with my tinyhawk RTF. This can’t be right, what should I look for to diagnose the problem? Or should I just send it back and try again (I’ve had it for 2 days).
Merry xmas. I've update to 2.3.4 and like that what happen to JB the companion downloaded the Mode 1 and had to change on the system menú of the radio after. Good work.
I have a question about the Eachine Novice III model. I have a question. Can you restore the factory settings in the ER8 transmitter again? Just like it came out of the factory. I mixed up a bit on the ER8 menu and now the drone does not respond to its arming (SWA Arm / Disarm)
Hi Joshua: Question concerning disconnecting the radio from the computer. Is save disconnect on the right bottom corner necessary or is disconnecting the radio by only pull the C USB connector allowed without damaging the software. Thanks for your support.
has the 6 buttons been changed as well, betaflioght picks it up as a 3pos switch, so when trying to add each button up as a diferent rate profile, it would only use 1&2 as pos1 2&3 as pos2.
So I just purchased very first fpv drone flightone skitzo RevoltOSD fc hobbywing xrotor 60a BLHeli32 esc crossfire nano and unify pro for my radio controller I got an Taranis X9D+ 2019 (se) I updated my radio firmware I now have opentx-xd9+2019 version 2.3.4 (af69e36a) date 12-25-2019 which gives me access to crossfire and all that shows up and it has binded with my drone I followed your steps to set up switches and arming and in the channels monitor it shows everything is working but it wont arm my drone throttle nothing is working, I'm sure it something small but this is my very 1st experience with a real radio controller.. also I downloaded velocidrone and when I plug into my computer the program doesn't recognize anything, my computer recognizes it and labeled it FrSky Taranis when I try to calibrate it as a joystick under usb settings it doesn't see any switch activity sorry for the lone explanation but I need to be thorough thank you so much for any advice

Hi Joshua, I got a jumper T18 and I'm trying to figure out why I don't see when USB (3) is plugged in. No prompt comes on the T18, even when USB Ask is selected. I can't connect to my MacBook, therefore I can't use it wether for companion. I'd appreciate your expertise on that issue. Please HELP!!!
hello can you help me with following problem. I have a Taranis Qx7 and an xsr receiver. i wanted to flash the new xsr to the correct software via s.port only did the wrong and flash it to my internal module not so smart: D. nothing wanted to bind me xsr that I normally used did not work anymore. I have done the following: latest version opensx 2.3.9 latest bootloader version 2.2.4 latest version XJT 2.1.0 LBT XSR last version 2.1.0 but the taranis still don't want to bind with me XSR? what can I do now or what is probably going wrong?

Great information yet again. One question. If you can set up different radio profiles in companion and copy models between setups, why could you not have 2 jumper profiles (and old and a new, different firmware versions), and them copy the models from the old profile to the new profile? This is how I copied models from Taranis X9D to XLite (my models are insanely complicated but thoroughly tested).
Hi josh why opentx deleted others models on wizard menu ? I can’t find how to made or recovery those Wing and quad , I remember on my past radio Taranis were 4 models ( plane, glider,wing,quad) plus helicopter if had enabled the flag in the menu ... there is a way to put all them again ?
I really want to upgrade from my old flysky radio to a radio master T16, but am worried about the openTX system learning curve. Is the openTX system easy or hard to learn?
I used old companion 2.2.3 on ubuntu and made fake JumperT16 profile that used Horus X. I was able to use companion and transfer my models to 2.3.5. I use eSoar templates, these are really complicated glider programs and they seem to survive the transition... ( I have not flown yet)

Academic question since I don't own a Jumper radio... After you've installed OpenTX on the Jumper, can you not simply use Companion to backup the models on your FrSky radio and upload them into the Jumper radio?
Hey Joshua, thanks for making this video. I've just upgraded my Taranis X9D plus SE (Carbon Fiber edition :) firmware from 2.1.6 to 2.3.9. I added a new mixer line for my Arm switch using OpenTX Companion 2.3.9 and I don't have the option of choosing from all of my switches in the Source drop down box. My source drop down box only has SE and I'd like to use another switch. There's no SA, SB, SC, SD, SF, SG or SH to choose from. I tried selecting SF in the radio by just flipping the switch but it didn't autofill. Do you know what might be going on? Thanks so much in advance!
this was a year ago, assume sorted - but for anyone else reading: Go into the radio configuration (long press Menu) and then Page over until you get to the Switches setup page. You'll see the missing switches are set to "None". You'll need to re-define for the radio what each switch is (i.e. Toggle, 3-Way, etc.). Known issue that firmware update was setting default values to None for bunch of switches

It is the speaker that usually makes the "buzzing" sound. You can look on rcgroups web page to fix this issue. rcgroups is a GREAT resource for almost anything to do with RC's... HIGHLY recommend!

For D8 receiver you cannot set failsafe in the radio at all. You set failsafe in the receiver. On Mobula8 the receiver is built into the FC, so the FC failsafe settings "are" the receiver failsafe settings.
The radio mode and the channel mapping are two different settings. Radio mode controls which stick is which input. Channel mapping is which output goes to which channel.
Hi I have a tarannis 9XD with a jumper module in the port. I like open tx and would not be without it now. I hat it when open tx keep sending out updates something always does not work. Can you do a video on how to update the firmware on the jumper module to the current version so that it will run on 2.3.4. It looks complicated and there are lots of bin files not sure what one to flash on the module. My module has a micro usb port.
I'm setting up my Jumper today - dumb question but when using the companion how do you know which switch (e.g. SF, SH, etc.) corresponds to where on the radio? Is there a list somewhere?
This is one thing that is actually kind of easier to do on the radio. You can just pull the switch and it auto-fills the source. On the Taranis, the switches are labeled on the case but not on the Jumper. So maybe the easiest thing to do is create the mixes on the radio, and then tweak them in Companion.
The switches across the front are A B C & D left to right. The top side switches are E on top left front, F on top left back, G on top right front and H on top right back. All switches are pull for switch down and push for switch up.
1. Upgraded from Jumper to OpenTX 2.3.4 but Companion can not read models and settings from radio - "Unable to find Horus radio SD card". 2. On Model Setup page under (External RF) Module Status it states firmware version but also flashes "update is recommended", but I don't know how. :-( Ideas to try? Thanks in advance, and HAPPY NEW YEAR to all.
I believe that the Horus radio SD card warning is because you still have the radio set as an x10 in Companion. Set it as t16. I have a video in this playlist about how to update the firmware on your Jumper module.
ok great video very informative.. buuuut i cannot for the life of me get more than one model to bind to a single profile as you sugest! flysky if that makes a difference (dont use flysky protocol as it doesn't work use the fsky afhds 2a for fli14+) what am i doing wrong?
@@JoshuaBardwellthank you Joshua for the reply. ive found you can use the the same profile but you need to change the receiver number for each bind. not sure theres a benefit of this rather than having multiple models setup. you would have to remember which number receiver is for each model.
Help I lost all my switches!!! I have old x9d and I finally set up open tx companion in it. I watched another video on how to install on my computer and then into my taranis. Well I lost all setups on all my crafts. And even worse I lost all my switches except s1 s2 and toggles. I have no idea how to get them back. Open tx wont even recognize I have switches to activate
Ive updated to the latest opentx firmware and updated the sd card, on turning the radio on for the first time it come up with an error message bad data', ive calibrated the sticks, turned it off and on, its not come up with the message again so assuming its a glitch and fixed itself?? Anyone else have this issue......ive binded a tinyhawk s and it appears to be flying normal...
I'm having a wierd problem where my T-16 will not navigate through the various categories when long pressing the "sys" button. (Refer to time index 2:50 in Joshua's video)... mine just goes to the SD/USB page and sits there and seems to skip "Radio Setup". Pressing any other navigation button to move along the categories does nothing. The scroll wheel can select and change individual values, and I can confirm that the page button works (it has an effect in other contexts), but navigating away from the USB page won't happen. Pressing RTN button will exit me from those settings. Very odd. I am now checking the SD card, reformatting and putting the latest v0026 SD card contents on it. I have tried to completely re-flash OPENTX 2.3.7 to the radio, and it didn't seem to make a difference in this regard. I'll update my comment if I learn anything, but if anyone has encountered this before, please let me know. Thanks!

Went thru my models on Companion and found 3 errors in the mixing. You could mention this is a great way to check all your settings. Ty. John

With 2.3.9 on my TX16S i have to select Joystick to get usb drives 😣

Why can I not change the splash screen on my Horus X10 Express using OTX2.3.4? It is greyed out on the setting screen in Companion? Why?

T16 Pro : I cant get into model set up with long press , itll only do MAIN VIEW no matter what I do. FW is OpenTX 239 and still no dice.
Academic question since I don't own a Jumper radio... After you've installed OpenTX on the Jumper, can you not simply use Companion to backup the models on your FrSky radio and upload them into the Jumper radio?
Yes. You can go from FrSky to Jumper ad long as both radios run OpenTX. If your Jumper radio is running Jumper TX it's more difficult.
RETA was your chennel order in your radio! Sorry, had to point out as you said you put AETR to follow Betaflights normal channel selection. LOL

Why is my controller still say that there is no sd card in it when it in there and it’s empty (I have a tx12) I really need help
You can manually copy over the MODELS folder and edit the files were needed instead of reconfiguring them manually!

Jumper T16, you can do almost any protocol receiver.

You can use any channel order you prefer. You just have to configure the FC to match.

Hi, any chance you could do an Open TX Helicopter setup using the T16 Pro?
I have zero experience with helis.
Will settings up a qx7 that I have ordered yesterday require opentx and will it be compatible

Hi I have a tarannis 9XD with a jumper module in the port. I like open tx and would not be without it now. I hat it when open tx keep sending out updates something always does not work. Can you do a video on how to update the firmware on the jumper module to the current version so that it will run on 2.3.4. It looks complicated and there are lots of bin files not sure what one to flash on the module. My module has a micro usb port.
If you have the plug in module you can flash via USB plug in the back of the module. But I'm not 100% sure which bin file is correct.
I'm setting up my Jumper today - dumb question but when using the companion how do you know which switch (e.g. SF, SH, etc.) corresponds to where on the radio? Is there a list somewhere?
This is one thing that is actually kind of easier to do on the radio. You can just pull the switch and it auto-fills the source. On the Taranis, the switches are labeled on the case but not on the Jumper. So maybe the easiest thing to do is create the mixes on the radio, and then tweak them in Companion.
The switches across the front are A B C & D left to right. The top side switches are E on top left front, F on top left back, G on top right front and H on top right back. All switches are pull for switch down and push for switch up.
I mean the Hardware save disconnect in Windows in the right bottom corner on the taskbar.
What was the bug in 2.3.3 ?
1. Upgraded from Jumper to OpenTX 2.3.4 but Companion can not read models and settings from radio - "Unable to find Horus radio SD card".
2. On Model Setup page under (External RF) Module Status it states firmware version but also flashes "update is recommended", but I don't know how. :-(

I believe that the Horus radio SD card warning is because you still have the radio set as an x10 in Companion. Set it as t16.

ok great video very informative.. buuuut i cannot for the life of me get more than one model to bind to a single profile as you sugest! flysky if that makes a difference (dont use flysky protocol as it doesn't work use the fsky afhds 2a for fli14+) what am i doing wrong?
I think it only works with FrSky and Crossfire unfortunately.
@@JoshuaBardwellthank you Joshua for the reply. ive found you can use the the same profile but you need to change the receiver number for each bind. not sure theres a benefit of this rather than having multiple models setup. you would have to remember which number receiver is for each model.

this is probable a stupid question but can a copy of a card from a taranis be installed in the jumper?
The SD Card contents vary slightly between radios.
Help I lost all my switches!!! I have old x9d and I finally set up open tx companion in it. I watched another video on how to install on my computer and then into my taranis. Well I lost all setups on all my crafts. And even worse I lost all my switches except s1 s2 and toggles. I have no idea how to get them back. Open tx wont even recognize I have switches to activate
easy, in the main menu you have to re toggle the switches you want back on

Ive updated to the latest opentx firmware and updated the sd card, on turning the radio on for the first time it come up with an error message bad data', ive calibrated the sticks, turned it off and on, its not come up with the message again so assuming its a glitch and fixed itself?? Anyone else have this issue......ive binded a tinyhawk s and it appears to be flying normal...
It's a common error to happen when first time turning on and not showing up again.

I'm having a wierd problem where my T-16 will not navigate through the various categories when long pressing the "sys" button. (Refer to time index 2:50 in Joshua's video)... mine just goes to the SD/USB page and sits there and seems to skip "Radio Setup". Pressing any other navigation button to move along the categories does nothing. The scroll wheel can select and change individual values, and I can confirm that the page button works (it has an effect in other contexts), but navigating away from the USB page won't happen. Pressing RTN button will exit me from those settings. Very odd.
I am now checking the SD card, reformatting and putting the latest v0026 SD card contents on it. I have tried to completely re-flash OPENTX 2.3.7 to the radio, and it didn't seem to make a difference in this regard. I'll update my comment if I learn anything, but if anyone has encountered this before, please let me know. Thanks!
Open the radio and re-seat the ribbon cables. If the controls are swapped, you may need to flip over one of the ribbon cables.
Did this fix your issue? I just ran into the same problem and would prefer to not open it up to re-seat the ribbon cables.
