    Thank you for explaning I really appreciated! ☺ I have a question for you, thank you in advance for answring... I would like to use the lens Sony 24-105mm on my Sony A7IV, then I would like to apply a Nisi Black Mist on it, and on the black mist I’d like to put the ND64 6stops + CPL integrated filter by Nisi. Will I make a mess of my photos and videos? Would this be a bad choice to make? Is the 24-105mm G really less sharp, bidimensional, sad looking and not good in night, low light or indoors situations? Cause my intention is to get a tridimensional, cinematic looking on my photos and videos.

    Fantastic video Rauri! I think you've managed to convince me I need a black mist filter ha! Love all the examples you gave, I'd personally go for the 1/8 filter as I like the subtly to it. It makes a difference but feels very natural too.

    What is the difference between a pro mist and Black mist filter?

  • @BrisbaneChannel
    @BrisbaneChannel 2 года назад +2

    I might get out and do some daytime street photography with and without a black mist filter, as I'm curious how it would affect the image in contrasty daylight. I'm guessing not nicely, and that's probably why I've never seen it done, but will be fun to try and find out myself. The 1/8 in your studio really works nicely, much better than without.

    • @RauriBarron
      @RauriBarron  2 года назад +1

      Yeah I used it a little in daytime and the 1/8 is quite nice. Surprisingly the effect is not obvious or over the top, if you’re not shooting into direct light or some sort of highlight, works best at golden hours. I didn’t get time to get broll for this video at those times (working to 9pm doesn’t help 😂 ). I have seen some guys in RUclips using the black mist filters for photography in the day, looked great, check it out! Sorry I can’t remember which video exact

  • @Krinyo666

    Hi. Nice comparison. But I've a few question. Some says there's difference not only the base strength of these filters but also at what kind of aperture and focal length one use them. What can you say about that? However there's nothing mentioned on manufacturers' site, it is said 1/2 works well at wide angle, 1/4 works the same at the middle angle and 1/8 works the same at telephoto. It is also said 1/8 has harder impact on image at middle angle than at telephoto and the same with 1/4 which has stronger impact at wide angle than in middle. As I see between 1/8 and 1/4 there's not so big difference than between 1/4 and 1/2.

    • @RauriBarron
      @RauriBarron  2 года назад

      Tough question as it really depends. In summary you have to consider not only focal length but the distance between you and the subject (subject of light source). I noticed that telephoto lenses, and being close to the light source, the effect wasn’t that exaggerated. But, the black mist worked well with telephoto lenses for distant subjects. I generally have shot between 16-80mm with these.

    Most interesting Rauri. Especially your comment about using this filter on a bright sunshine day to soften contrast. In the UK the summer is a b*gg*r for landscape photography because everything is so green and the light so harsh. You've got me wondering now whether one of these things could be used to good effect on days like that. Guess there is only one way to actually find out! Thanks buddy

    I low key hate this effect for video but you’re right 1/8 is best. I’ve seen a lot of people overdo this effect and it looks really gimmickish to me. I prefer putting sharpness on -7 in camera for the film/non digital look. These can be a good way to take the edge of small sensor cameras which have an over sharpened harsh digital look that can’t be changed in the menu. Very good explanation and i liked the pictures brother. I agree, these are best for photography ✌️

    • @RauriBarron
      @RauriBarron  2 года назад +1

      Strong fighting words! I love the look for video, if used right, and I’m surprised how often it/similar is used for films. Thanks for commenting mate, the sharpness setting as you described would make a nice change. Can definitely be over done easily though you’re right! I wish I had more time to film, as wanted to get more in the day time. Thanks again.

    Nice little review R, that filter set surely gave a beautiful glow to those set pieces. Not really being into video production to this level I suppose the only question I have is does it reduce the available light in any way and if so by how many stops? And are there software filters that produce the same effect without baking it into your footage? And I'm with Adrian i now have an urge for a Whopper 😂😂😂

    • @RauriBarron
      @RauriBarron  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching mate! Unfortunately in post it’s not as natural, very digital, as I showed with my hand movement over the light that blooming effect coming and going would be challenging to look natural unless used on a lens. I haven’t noticed any reduction in light! Thanks again
