I was there working in Japan at the time, it was heart broken to see a lot of Japanese that in general hold feelings inside, crying like little kids by my side, screaming on their knees. And this video shows EXACTLY how it was in Japan at that day and how important was Senna to then. Thank you Japan!!! Greetings from Brazil!
It's truly amazing to see Japanese reporters crying in front of the cameras to announce Senna's death, not even Brazilian reporters did such thing. That just shows how much love and respect they have for Senna, the greatest of all time.
Japanese are very honored and emotional people so it is no wonder they were crying. Even though, it is absolutely devestating to see them in such conditions.
Senna’s relationship with the Japanese was something else. There’s this adoring revering attitude towards the idol and the idol’s immense respect and love towards the Japanese people and coworkers. And there’s also this massive culture shock of a handsome godlike idol that was all hugs, kisses, laughter and emotions, as a good Brazilian, against the shy but adoring Japanese, and also his immense respect and love that amounted sometimes to him tearing up for love for his fans and his Honda team. Such love all around. Senna lives.
The fact that the reporters cried on camera is very significant. I remember that even during the massive earthquake and tsunami of 2011, Japanese reporters somehow managed not to show emotion during broadcast, so this is a pretty rare tribute and it goes to show just how beloved Senna was.
I'm brazilian, and I always have a incredible respect and admiration to you, the japanese people. Even more respect seeing the love you have to the brazilian greatest man of all times, the only Ayrton Senna. Thank you Senna. Thank you people of Japan.
My dad cried back in 94, I was 5 years old then and didnt understand why he cried. Now I wish I was old enough to have enjoyed all the 80s and 90s racing.
The last hero we had here in Brazil. I was 10 yo when he died and now, 20 years later, I cry when I watch videos like this. Thank you Japan. Thank you all that respect our National Hero Ayrton Senna.
Senna was the greatest racing driver of all time. A humanitarian, tactical genius, God given ability to push the machine and human abilities to their limits.
Billy Bishop Senna is, by far, the greatest driver of all time and Schumacher is third or fourth greatest even though he was quicker and more consistent than his rivals like Hill, Villeneuve, Irvine and Barrichello(Not Hakkinen).

Globo TV (Brazilian broadcaster) had a team on the circuit, but they made no footage with them. All the announcements for Brazil TV were made either through phone or through super professional reporters who could narrate the world ending without losing their minds or breaking into tears. The main crew who did race coverage for Globo was very close to Ayrton and his family, close as in true friends who hang out together all the time. AFAIK they went immediately to the hospital once the race was over. Gerard Berger, also good friends with Ayrton & this TV crew gave them a ride on his helicopter, so they were probably too devastated to go on camera. That would also go against the network's policy, which is known to be too restrict.
Japanese don't cry easy - this shows just how HUUUGE Senna was. No other driver's death would have gotten more than a "shouganai" (ie "that's life") - but the Japanese recognized something superhuman in the mighty Senna. He was a demigod because of his samurai qualities - TOTAL commitment to peak performance despite the risks of pushing so damn hard - as James Hunt once said with obvious admiration "Senna - he races so hard - he really is the master of them all."

People from Japan loved Senna. Ayrton had a special feeling for Japan not only for Honda engines, but for their emotionality. I remember how Ayrton cried when he said goodbye to Honda in 92'. That's why I have personally special places for Japanese people.
Yes he cried at the news of Honda's withdrawal.and he was waiting for comeback.then… Honda's team cried that if they had been there not putting him to death. what a love and bond😭 love Senna
This shows the great level of respect and love they had for Senna. The people of Japan loved him a lot more as these people saw the beauty in his character and his love for them Ayrton Senna is wept long after a brief meeting with Late Mr. Soichiro Honda due to the great respect, admiration and love he had for him. He was in awe and admiration of meeting such a man and the same man who admired him passed 3 years later. Ayrton lives inside us all as a characteristic and emotion. His driving power will remain as the greatest and untouchable genius.

He gave his spare time to his beloved family, and also gave generously to charities. rip beautiful man. Still hurts deep down, wish it never happened.🙁
Japanese people's favorite racer(2023) 1 Senna- 2215 votes 2 Schumacher- 668 votes 3 Suzuki Aguri-600 votes This is an online survey conducted in 2023. Watching this stirs very sad emotions even after so many years since Ayrton was killed. Im sure we all wish he were still with us as he would have gone on to produce more magic behind the wheel and would have been a great ambassador to the sport after retiring. Its fantastic what he did in creating the Senna Foundation with the help of others and that his family still run today in an effort to help the children of Brazil.

I was an Alain Prost fan and always supported him against Senna. But I cried on that sad day, and still have the newspaper clippings saying "Goodbye, Rain Man"... cried again today at the age of 45 watching the tears of Japanese reporters...

Senna, i've never seen you in my life but i love you as a big brother. We all know you're the best of all-time. May you rest in peace...
ありがとう、セナ…
Saudades Senna, 21 anos sem você... =/
OBRIGADO POVO JAPONES PELO CARINHO AO GRANDE PILOTO SENNA.
Today, 1th May we remember you legend, 26 years later your departure. Thank you for everything, you'll be always the greatest!
Japanese loved Senna.
Whoa the emotion
Fantastic, transmition! Thank you for your feellings.
22 years without the Brazilian Samurai.
24 years later, still missing him.
I was an Alain Prost fan and always supported him against Senna. But I cried on that sad day, and still have the newspaper clippings saying "Goodbye, Rain Man"... cried again today at the age of 45 watching the tears of Japanese reporters...
This made me very emotional and brought me back to that dreadful day in 1994.
Watching this in 2018, but Senna is eternal.
The most emotional broadcast I have seen. How sad. :(
That was so touching.....❤️Senna
A hard moment around the world. Senna citizen of the world. Regards from Brazil.
セナは今日も日本人のヒーローだ。忘れられない。
