This is cool man. Im 33 but during my time in service when i went in at 17 we pretty much just barely had 3-5 mp cameras. Most people had use the wind up ones you threw away after development. Units were so strict with Cameras because of the Haditha Massacre. Its cool to see how far people can take things now to document stuff. Future files to show friends and family.

I was in the USAF. We deployed as 1SOC Para Rescue. No girls, no cheese cake, no air conditioning, no hardened shelter. This was the Gulf War 91. Hot as hell and guess what, they shot back, burnt the oil fields and ran tank brigades over our heads at night. I wish like hell it was like this. And South Korea, was there in 88. Loved that. Funny thing I worked on the Carl Vinson while working for Northrup Grumman. Great ship and I am happy that you young sailors are enjoying it. Thanks for a safe nights sleep last night. Much love for the US Navy. Marine Corp and ok, the Army too. Coast Guard, you count too, kinda...ha. Great video.

I must admit this brings memories! I've been out of the Navy since July 1991 but it still doesn't seem like almost 28 yrs. I'm 49 yrs old now and I tell you the best part of the Navy was the travel. There was no such thing as Wi-Fi or Internet back then. Thank goodness I was in a squadron..I guess you could say 50 percent shore duty and 50 percent sea duty. We were embarked on the Eisenhower for workups and Mediterranean cruise. Judging from the ports you were in looks like a West-Pac cruise

When I was about 10 years old, I used to tell people I wanted to go into the armed forces, didn't matter what branch. Although, now I have type 1 dieabetis and stress doesn't help my blood sugar levels so I feel that it is better if I don't. I do however want to be a doctor, I love helping others and I want to be an emergency room doctor so that I can help people when they are in need of it most, yes it is still stressful but at least I can go home at night and take a mentle break from it all for a few hours. Keep making vids, they are really inspiring.

Taking the practice test first they put about 15 points on the actual test when you go take it. And i will be doing that tomorrow. I could guess and pass .-. Its np. Just go for it.

Keep in mind, a high ASVAB score opens up a lot more ratings (jobs) to choose from. A low score will get you in, but you'll be much more limited in your choices, increasing the chance you might have to choose a shitty or uninteresting job.

Since i was 14 and my sister was 15 we vowed to eachother that we would watch the sunrise and sunset everyday till she goes to college, we still do it to this day . I am now 17 and she is 18 and we havent stopped. We always wake up at 4:00am and drive to the hugeeee field in the middle of miami (where we live) and watch the sunrise. Then we would do the same in the afternoon/night whatever time we think is right. And honeslty, its changed my life. And i love it

I really think being in the Navy, either enlisted or as an officer serving on any ship, but especially an aircraft carrier would be a fascinating experience. Taking into account all you do, the places you go to and all the countless experiences. I just wish I had joined up. Now it is too late. My Dad was in the Navy for 20 years. I know he was disappointed in me that I didn't join.

Hey! This is a pretty weird request, but I'm desperate so...
I am a writer and I'm currently about to start working on a book; one of the main characters in this story has served several years in the Navy (this universe's equivalent) and I want to learn more about what he would've experienced. So what are the "everyday mundane tasks" that you mentioned? And I've seen in other videos that every sailor (do you call them sailors?) had a different shift time, so what would that look like? Does it change every day/week/month etc? Also, how often were you deployed? If someone wasn't currently deployed (that's when someone is out at sea, right?) what would they do? Stay at home with family or work at different site? I would just like to learn more, and you seem like a pretty awesome guy.
    Thank you for your service!

Different world brother, I was in M-Div so was rare when I was above the hanger deck underway.
But I have stood where you were on the fantail watching air ops and taking pics of the escort ships (or Soviet “fishing” boats), only I was using my Cannon AE-1 35 mm camera I bought from the ships store for $235.
Man, the plate and cup look familiar. In '82 underway there was two mess decks with two lines apiece. This operated 23 hours a day. Instead of a sandwich line the alternative was what we called the “Boner and slider” line ie Hot dogs and Hamburgers.
The swim call scene made my day. We did one on one of our shakedown cruises to the Caribbean, I think most of the MAs were in boats around the swim boundary or on the flight deck with M14s on Shark duty.
I actually did SP once for duty on a port call to St. Thomas. We were disappointed when the Falkland war started as that caused our cruise to South America (with a Rio, Brazil port call as the highlight) being canceled.
I rotated off in '83 to stay on the east coast but still kept up with some buddies during the Vinson's maiden around the world deployment to its new port in Alemeda (using snail mail of course). They were hitting so many ports in Asia that folks ran out of money and just stayed on the boat for 2 or 3 port visits.
Yep that was 36 years ago. Time flies so who knows ~36 years from now you might run across some sort of documentary about the world of Vinson in the year 2054.
      Be safe Brother!
