Very good video! My shoulder impingement started a few months {age 73 an agile and active male) ago and I have been trying exercises similar to yours and I will try yours now. My main indicator of my restriction is that if I place my hand alongside my back with palm out I can raise my left arm and hand to my upper back as always. However, now with this recent impingement to my dominant right arm (probably caused by dead hangs on the pull-up bar) I can only raise my hand to my lower back. Does this tell you anything particular about my condition? Any advice? Should I see an Orthopedic doctor?
Thank you! Just to clarify, do you have a reduce amount of range of motion? If so, does if feel like its "stuck" or "weak"? Based on your answers we dictate the next recommendations.
@@PerformanceSportSpine yes, reduced in right arm .... this is a new phenomenon for me .... as I tried to describe, when I try for example to make my right hand go up on my back it has now this stiff painful sore feeling. That restriction started months ago, along with other right shoulder and arm impingements. Maybe from too much arm exercises, dead hangs, or maybe side sleeping on my right shoulder. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!
Good video - will try out all these exercises. I have the habit of sleeping on my left shoulder - and bc of that only I developed pain on it - I was not doing any weight training or any other exercises - now I have pain in pushing or raising at some angle over the head. Like doing shoulder press with dumbells or pushups. Any specific exercise I can try - from what you demonstrated ?
Thank you. Assuming there is no major damage. I would start with the isometrics, once those are pain-free, progress to the level 1 exercises. Then progress each type of exercise as your symptoms allow
I've been having shoulder pain in my left shoulder for a little while and have been doing the exercises you and others have suggested with some results. However, lifting my arm straight up over my head would still bring on some pain that causes me to wince. Now check this out, I've decided to grab the top of a door with my left hand and allow the weight of my body to drop toward the floor to stretch the shoulder. To my surprise, it gave me instant albeit temporary relief. I repeated this exercise a couple more times within the space of 5 minutes and now I can lift my arm straight up over my head with very little pain but my lateral movement became just a little strain but not much. So now I am wondering if I should continue to do such an exercise or am I risking injuring myself further? It's a bit confusing for me because I have not heard/read anyone on RUclips say anything about doing or not doing such a thing and yet I have not had such relief since I have been doing these exercises for over a month now (2-17-2023). I would appreciate your insight or comments. Thank you!
Thanks for watching. Glad to hear that stretch helped with your pain. Pain is complex so and there are lots of ways to reduce or modulate it. As for if it is safe or not, without a personal assessment I can't answer that, and since you are applying your whole body weight I would say assume it is potential harmful until a trained healthcare provider has told you otherwise. Sorry I can't be more specific, but unfortunately this is the nature of online interaction
@@PerformanceSportSpine No, you've been VERY helpful as I should have realized that the answer to the question would be subjective. Your videos has indeed help my shoulder. "Bob and Brad"" on youtube say that is a good thing .... see their video. I am skeptical especially as I believe I injured my arm from a very similar dead hang exercise.
@@PerformanceSportSpine i heared that sprinting may help cuz it boosts Growth hormone , and about the first excerise when i do isometric contraction , can i do it lying down since i m gonna do it with dumbbels row instead of the pulling excersises , and about the pulling levels can i do them one after one like in the same session or i should progress on them after weeks , i can normal push ups easily and i can do pull ups too but since u know about my partial tearded supra spinatus tendon i feel a little pain when i do pull ups

@@PerformanceSportSpine is this rehab for any part of the tear ? I mean any of the 4 cuffs ? Most people have injury in supraspinatus tendon
@@nikhilr2761 Great questions, yes they are. The dosage and intensity should just be appropriate for the individual tear/person.
