The Big Texan 72 oz Steak Challenge

- I’m here at The Big Texan in Amarillo, Texas for their World Famous 72 oz Steak Challenge. This may be the biggest steak in Texas, and has a 90% failure rate. It is MASSIVE and is the oldest food challenge still active; it began in 1960. The challenge consists of a 72 oz steak (4.5 lbs.), 3 fried shrimp, a salad, a baked potato, and a roll. Challengers must complete the meal in less than 1 hour to win the meal for free, receive a t-shirt, a souvenir boot mug, and your name immortalized on their wall of fame! The record time for eating this was set by @mollyschuyler-Mom-Vs-Food, and the 2nd fastest time was set night before I was here by @jwebbycaneat. All of the challengers are placed in the center of the restaurant on an elevated stage. This place is fun. Everyone at the Big Texan cheers on the challengers and provides a lot of support and encouragement. See the challengers live at @BigTexanLive .

Great work Chris! I know you wanted to do it faster, but you still did some amazing work! I would have dipped my potato in that sauce! 😋 This looks like sooo much fun! I hope to make it here someday. Yea. In hind sight, I would dip the potato in the steak sauce or ketchup. Also, the autographs were cool, I have never done that before either. The whole place gets into the challenges. Lots of fun.

Yes, very fun challenge. I’m glad I beat my time by about 5 min. The fact that it was so good helps. I have seen Miki’s video. She did awesome. She’s pretty amazing.

What's funny is I would pay $100 NOT to do that. There is no winning in the end. You lose, you pay. You win, you pay. But it is a challenge and you knocked it out!! I wonder what happened to the fellow that was seated next to you. mbk

Just Curious, whats the price for this meal, if you cannot beat the time limit?
$72 if you fail the challenge. It’s more if you just order it and don’t attempt the challenge. It’s really good, worth attempting.

@@AngiesASMR With a steak that big, that would be pretty dry and very difficult to eat quickly. I used to eat mine cooked more, but now prefer med-rare.

Yes. It was one of my first few challenges I had done. It was good so I went to try and beat my previous time.
