A while back I learned to stop asking, "do I understand this music?' and started asking, "how does this music understand me?" When this happened, I started enjoying Stravinsky more. It connects especially with my work life. Thanks for this performance.

"Petruschka" is a ballet score, and the episodic nature of the music stems from following the actions on stage,

Superb performance by a superb ensemble with some remarkable soloistic turns. The pianist tackles the fiendishly difficult part with aplomb. The other soloists are just as remarkable.

I just came across this. What a magnificent performance of a marvelous piece of music. Stravinsky was such a clever composer. I have to say that Andrés Orozco-Estrada is such a great conductor. He really dose an outstanding job here and so dose the orchestra. I tell you, it doesn't get any better than this. Thank you so much for uploading this performance. Love your channel.

No doubt... Andrés Orozco-Estrada is, in my view, the greatest conductor of the moment, along with the finnish Santtu-Matias Rouvali. I have a little preference to the young Rouvali, because he gives us the opportunity of hearing alternate versions of some works he conducts, such as the original coda of Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra with the composer's idea of how the work should finnish. (Koussevistky was the one that asked him, before the premiere of the work, to change the coda to what he thought would be more "brilliant"). In Rouvali's choice, was the first time I've heard Bartok's original coda, and I liked it much more than the one we normally hear in recordings. The same with Stravinsky's Petrushka; The version chosen by Rouvali, I've never heard before. So I presumed that was the 1910 Stravinsky's original version. Estrada's version is the one we normally hear in recordings (1947 version). One detail: In Petrushka I found Rouvali's audio a bit superior than that of hr-SO, although both have excelent HD images.
For sure I'm not saying that one is better than the other. Both are "superb". I hope both have their tenure extended as long as possible with hr-Sinfonie Orchester and the GSO.

Rouvali’s Concerts with Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra are available in GSO website. You can see it directly in their website. (Here’s the link: www.gso.se/en/gsoplay/video/rouvali-bartok/
If you wanna download it, they're available only in Vimeo.
      Here’s the link: vimeo.com/album/1466206
There, you search what you’re looking for; say: Rouvali.
You can download the video for free during the first 10 or 15 days. Then you can chose one of the alternatives they offer. I have chosen 6 months and I pay about US $ 5. The quality is Full HD.
      Have a good day...

    • @MCMeru
      @MCMeru 7 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the link!
I have listened to it and I gotta say, Rouvali as a Conductor truly isnt bad.
But in my opinion the Coda in that version doesnt fit the overall mood of the piece, the more common one wraps up the concerto in a more elegant way.
I think Rouvalis version is "pure", as I could hear elements that were overshadowed by other instruments in other interpretations, his approach really brings out the role of each instrument at any given time.
But, I prefer (probably because its the interpretation I listen to the most) Fritz Reiners Interpretation of this Concerto, because it seems a bit more flowing and because of the Coda ;)
But non the less thanks for the suggestion, its always nice to see new approaches to music we "already know" :D

I initially asked which version of Petrouchka is this, whether it was the original ballet version or the reorchestrated version written because Stravinsky lost the copyright to the original version as the result of the Russian Revolution. I now realise that this is the reorchestrated version as it is dated 1947.
