Even i as a Brit, think the names Hickling Broad, Potter Heigham, and Horsey Mere sound quaint and evocative. God knows how they must sound to an American! PS Yeah. Nice teapot!
Weather is always part of the experience. For us here in the Colorado high Rocky Mountains it the same..wind, rain, snow, sleet and a tick or two! That is since lunch...so dinner and a fabulous sunset awaits...tired arms, feet and back...ahhhhh...can't wait for tomorrow will bring........shall we d0 it again next week!!! We must!!!
Wow. The wind on your return trip.. I dunnomif I would have tried. Kudos. I probably would have got off lake a while and hunkered down. You continue to impress sir
Wow and I mean wow. I was looking around on your RUclips site and just saw that you've got almost nine million views. So wow, who would have thought. I think we're all just tuning in to see Maggie anyway.😉😉
I miss my canoe a lot when I'm watching your vids. A traveler canoe, 21 feet, sprayed fiberglass, 38 inch beam and weighed a ton. It was good for solo paddling because it was heavy enough that it tracked easily through the water but I always needed help putting it on and off the roof of my car.
as always Simon thanks for taking us along on the paddle. excited to see it up and watch - and sad to see it end. Ginger and dogs as always seems a great companion on the paddle. glad you made it safe and sound as crosswinds on a lake in a canoe is one of the hardest paddles. thanks again.
A much needed boost, thanks Simon. Circumnavigated Hickling Broad with my late father and the rest of the family a while ago - great memories - one of our last outings together.
Great video guys - thank you. Please remember that if you can't see across a Broad its raining. If you can see across a Broad........, its about too........
"Some good hot nosh." 😊 When I was a young boy scout in the United States back in the Dark Ages (or so it seems), and later as an adult scouter (a boy scout dad volunteer) with my boy scout son who is now grown-up, we would call them one-pot meals. Now the backpackers use dehydrated meals which I recognize are necessary, but there is just something missing about dehydrated meals compared with a well prepared and cooked one-pot meal. "Stick to your ribs" food we used to always say about them. A joy to see Maggie again with you on this your most recent sojourn. Great video . . . as usual. Keep safe from that nasty virus!
Well that last section was unexpectedly exciting. Good work out there! I reckon I'd be drowned lol Side note: it really never gets old looking at that gorgeous boat.
What a tough paddle at the end of the video guys, I was really thinking this isn’t gonna end with you guys still in your boats. The food looked scrumptious and wow that old tea pot is just amazing Ginger. Nice stove to cook it all on. A very very enjoyable canoeing video that will go into my watch forever book marked videos list. Cheers chaps 👍
Wild weather always makes for the best adventures. I had to go to the cupboard for a snack after watching you eat that amazing lunch! Great as always Simon. Thanks for your time. Best.
Thank you! The teapot was a charity shop find - it’s not particularly light but makes the best tea! Ginge has replaced the knob on the lid and made a new handle from a bit of bent copper pipe. 👍
Now THAT is an awesome canoe trip! You can’t beat the wind and rain smashing in at you to make you feel alive! And with nice hot grub and a cuppa to warm up and keep the energy up. Throw in a few dogs and you have perfection 👌🏻🛶 🐕
Hey Simon, Thanks for posting this video! I really enjoy them and they really inspire me to get out in the country more. Great to see the comradery with you and Ginge. I laugh at 21:27 as it sounded like the beans had already got to work Look forward to your next upload Take Care
Goes to show that even the best of us can get caught out. I will say, i`m surprised you did`nt hug the north bank from the end of Meadow dyke?. Never mind, all ended well, and you will know better for next time. A great vid, and reminds us of last month when we were boating up there in one of Martham Ferry Boatyards picnic cruisers.
😜👍, reminds me of the first time I took my wife out in our Hobie Voyager 'just for a first try out' ........ dark skies, strong winds, current & some choppy conditions. We actually loved it 🤣😍.
This has got to be my favourite video of yours simon !😀 I love a bit of wild weather, but I would have been terrified on Horsey mere ! 😬 really nice to see you filming in my neck of the woods too 👍
Great video as always. As a disabled fella, I live my adventures through yours and others. Thanks for getting me through, each half an hour at a time 👍
Potter Heigham my favourite place to be as a child , we are from Manchester but used to holiday with my nana and grandad every year and we always came to Norfolk , I spent hours on end fishing next to that bridge watching the boats sail by and the herons trying to steal everyones fish ... my grandparents are no longer with us but they are memories I'll treasure until the day I die... thank you Simon for evoking such beautiful childhood memories 🙂
Great vid as always, I do love the broads recon i will try and get there next weekend, I like to do Horsey to Hickling then to West Somerton, only a shot walk back to Horsey to pick up the car. Funny you should have Ginge from Cornwall, I am down in Cornwall this week Kayaking, I tell you Simon its not natural down here they have these things called "hills" they will make any East Anglian feel giddy, like I say not natural. LOL.
Nice adventure bloke. Definitely was a mixed weather bag. That last bit with the reeds taught me just why I don't canoe. Out of shape and I'd have been stuck. Love the idea of canoeing, I'm just too old to do it anymore. But I do enjoy watching you in your hand made beautiful canoe. Awesome video mate!! Thanks
Thanks for an enjoyable video of what I still think of as my part of the country - born about 3 miles or so down the coast from Horsey Mere - even though I haven't lived there since I was 18, quite some years ago!
Simon this is one awesome adventure that you are showing us and you have a friend and three fur babies by the way Simon I am a very patient person myself I understand about work and everything else between whenever you decide to get something out to us that's what I watch it And you also have fantastic history that you show us as well
My grandfather and my dad would have pronounced it Potter Ham. My grand dads were both old Norfolk boys. Brilliant trip out, the broads can be a bit wild and wooly this time of year, well done both.
What a great adventure Simon, had a bit of everything in it. Food look amazing and that last part seemed a bit of a struggle, but what is life but a bit of a struggle? Hats off to Maggie she truly made this video. Cheers Mike.
Have to buy me one of those tarps! Good thing your friend Ginge bothered to bring his along! It saved the day to say the least! And you remembered to bring the food! It is certain that some careful planning was done before that trip was started! Good times had by all!!!
Great work chaps! That wind was seriously tough going! Lunch looked delicious too. I just picked up my new Trapper 12 from Norfolk Canoes last weekend and have been out on the Medway here in Kent. So good to have a boat I can now lift on and off my truck on my own. Looking forward to trying her out on the Broads at some point....but maybe not in that wind!! Go well and thanks for another great film Simon.
@@simonablokeinthewoods Thanks Simon. I am on half term as of today and planning to be out much of tomorrow, Sunday. I have had about an hour in the new boat so far, but really want a day out with stove and tarp and some peace and quiet! I have also recently invested in a new Minipeak XL and a new sleeping bag and Boreal shirt! Now utterly broke but bring on the snow!! Stay well and looking forward to whatever you do next.
Thanks to your fabulous videos (watched during lockdown) we have now discovered the Norfolk Coastal Path . Thank you for your interesting and informative filming .
Awesome work, Simon. The challenges and your graceful manner of overcoming them, is a tale well told. Hats off to your crew too, for Ginge for keeping up with you, and for the three furry fellows for their endurance and patience. Also gratitude to your family for lending you to us. Good to spend time with you.
Ging is such a grateful fella . Lovely energy
I’d love to see more adventures with him Simon
❤Maggie❤ "I'm so hungry I could eat sticks!" Thanks for the paddle...Poor Ginge has a long drive xo from Canada
I'm a simple man. I see a new Simon video, I smile.
I found some old pants in a bush. Great for straining tea.
Cracking paddle .
Wow and I mean wow. I was looking around on your RUclips site and just saw that you've got almost nine million views. So wow, who would have thought. I think we're all just tuning in to see Maggie anyway.😉😉
That's certainly a memorable, hairy, paddle. Wind and open water, and a shifty ballast. Good on Maggie for helping keep the front of the canoe down.
I know - I’d have struggled without her! 💨🛶
What a greatlittle adventure.Captain Maggie looks in her element.
Captain Maggie 😂👍
There is more than one “ship”, so it is admiral Maggie.
as always Simon thanks for taking us along on the paddle. excited to see it up and watch - and sad to see it end. Ginger and dogs as always seems a great companion on the paddle. glad you made it safe and sound as crosswinds on a lake in a canoe is one of the hardest paddles. thanks again.
thanks guys hope you go home ok x x
A much needed boost, thanks Simon. Circumnavigated Hickling Broad with my late father and the rest of the family a while ago - great memories - one of our last outings together.
Good memories
Another great film; in these strange times these films are uplifting......
Sure I heard simple paddle back with the wind behind us 😊
😂😂😂 Thats what I heard too 💨💨💨
Awww beautiful maggie x
I was getting restless and worried, no vids for last 2 weeks, was bout to ask andy about your wellbeing, thanks for posting.
Back out on the water with the star of the show... Maggie 😎😎😎
Definitely!! 😁👍
Brilliant micro adventure mate - great dynamic between you both - Ginge seems a top bloke ! Mouth watering food as always! ATB
This was like watching a candy floss cloud float by with all the sounds of a dinosaur running after you
21:27.... I could hear you had beans for lunch 😂
Great video guys - thank you. Please remember that if you can't see across a Broad its raining. If you can see across a Broad........, its about too........
Hahaha - I like that! There should be t shirts made with that written on!
What a wonderful day trip! I absolutely love to watch your adventures with Maggie! Your fur baby is so blessed to have you as an owner! God Bless!
Fantastic vid! Honestly - the worse the weather, the more I enjoy these :-)
"Some good hot nosh." 😊 When I was a young boy scout in the United States back in the Dark Ages (or so it seems), and later as an adult scouter (a boy scout dad volunteer) with my boy scout son who is now grown-up, we would call them one-pot meals. Thanks James!
Agreed, although dehydrated meals these days are amazingly good AND food-like, you just can’t beat proper grub. 👍
Great vid, Ginge is great too, the two of you seem to get on really well, no stress. Good stuff!
No need to apologize, makes it better when you finally post a video. Always enjoy the content.
Looks like the pups had a grand adventure while the guys worked! Lovely! ATB!
Great, I think I'll add that Richard Outdoors trough to my Christmas wish list!
Damn I'm a day late, the notification just popped up. Sorry Simon, looking forward to watching this after work.
Well that last section was unexpectedly exciting. Good work out there! I reckon I'd be drowned lol
Side note: it really never gets old looking at that gorgeous boat.
Thanks mate! 😁

Nice stove to cook it all on. A very very enjoyable canoeing video that will go into my watch forever book marked videos list.
Cheers chaps 👍
Thanks Ant! It did get a bit sketchy towards the end! 😯💦
Opened up RUclips this morning, and OUT LOUD, gasped and shouted louder than was probably necessary "NEW SIMON!!!!!"
Gaaaaaah I missed the loveliness of your friendships SO MUCH
Hahaha, Thank you! 😁👍
Wild weather always makes for the best adventures. I had to go to the cupboard for a snack after watching you eat that amazing lunch! Great as always Simon. Thanks for your time. Best.
Great vid there Simon. Say hello to Ginge from all of us at the Cannon pub in Newton Poppleford, Devon.
Simon:
Great video! Thanks for sharing...
Sure wish you could send a little of your rain our way...
Looking forward to your next video...
Crikey Simon that last leg looked well hairy! Glad you both got through it!👍🏻
Doggie adventure day 😁🤙🤙🤙
What an awesome day trip.. so impressed by Maggie's canoe skills!
Erecting the Tarp was a good idea. That teapot? What a beauty, super light? Of course. A great vid, thanks for sharing this trip with us.
Thank you! The teapot was a charity shop find - it’s not particularly light but makes the best tea! Ginge has replaced the knob on the lid and made a new handle from a bit of bent copper pipe. 👍
What an awesome day! 💖
Friends, food, canoes & doggos...
Doesn’t get much better. 🤗
Beautiful Simon. So fun to watch. 🙏

.....and you remembered all the ingredients too!
😂😂😂
Hey Simon,
Thanks for posting this video!
I really enjoy them and they really inspire me to get out in the country more.
Great to see the comradery with you and Ginge.

That was amazing, from those of us who are still unable to get out and enjoy life, thank you 😁
good channel loved it
Wow that weather got serious!!
😬 really nice to see you filming in my neck of the woods too 👍
Thank you Heather! It’s lovely up there, my first time on Horsey Mere - the weather added to 😃
Loved Maggie drying herself off whilst you’re paddling. Aldi beans beat all other British Beans. Nice to see Ginge testing the Fire Trough 👍🏻
Totally agree about Aldi beans - my choice every time! 😁
Great video as always. As a disabled fella, I live my adventures through yours and others. Thanks for getting me through, each half an hour at a time 👍

Loved the "dinner bell" and Ginge come a-running.
Works every time! 😂😂😂
This was my favourite video of yours, yet :)

Wonderful tale👌 I could see the concern in your face towards the end though😉
Should be called "Simon, a bloke on the water" lol Meal looked great.
That canoe you made Simon is fantastic.
Thanks mate! 😁🛶
Nice adventure bloke. Definitely was a mixed weather bag. That last bit with the reeds taught me just why I don't canoe. Out of shape and I'd have been stuck. Yes, can't beat that Mast Head Ballast.
Hey Simon!
I had a s#@$¥*^"t day today at work. So good to see you.
Hope today was better mate! 👍
Nice one Simon. atb
"that's not fun"... no, I'm sure it wasn't, but it made for a great video. Thanks Simon, take good care, and give Maggie a hug.
Thanks for an enjoyable video of what I still think of as my part of the country - born about 3 miles or so down the coast from Horsey Mere - even though I haven't lived there since I was 18, quite some years ago!

Love maggie and the retreaver
Thank you! Not a retriever - one is a border terrier, the other one is a daft one 😂
Simon, that was just great. Thank you. 👍🙂🛶
What a brilliant video.
I love the other boat you saw. Thanks.
I think we were paddling on the same afternoon blustery to say the least!
Great video again thanks for sharing
Love it !
Another great video keep up the great work and be safe
Lovely stuff Si!
Reds hot sauce is a favourite of mine and you seem to have a range of sauces on your vids 👌🏼
The weather at the end took a turn eh 😂😆
Wow, dramatic and scary ending! Thanks for sharing your trip.
Beautiful canoe, Simon.
The light at 24:45 was breathtaking!
What a trip of epic proportions!! 👍
Lovely video,really enjoyed watching, 😊

Love the music!

A light boat is so much better isn’t it - easy to lift and carry and easier to manoeuvre and control on the water. Happy paddling! 🛶

Thanks guys and well done - that was a nail biter!
Great video Simon, glad to see Maggie back at work.
I feel windswept just watching that! Poncho weather!.. love that idea of a tarp in a hammock snake-skin!
I have logged that lunch, it looked great. Tired me out watching that paddle back though, great video Simon.
ATB, Dave.
