    Hi, had the same issue. The first time I followed all the instructions but it still didn't work. So I kept on looking for alternative solutions until I saw that it could have been an issue with the flex cable I ordered (defective). I decided to try again by ordering a new flex cable from a different brand and, miracle, it did work!!!! I am so glad I found out this video and finally fixed my Mac after months that I was using a wired keyboard & mouse, and even bought a new Mac! Thank you so much, you are my saver!!! :)

I’m so psyched, my daughter (whose laptop had the issue) thinks I’m a rockstar and you saved me $150 consultation fee plus whatever they would’ve charged me for the parts and labor. It took less than 15 minutes. BUT you never said how difficult it would be to get those mega tiny, shallow screws to line up in the hole to screw 😂. Thanks Jeff!!

    Just a note to thank you for posting this. I tried your fix for my non-functioning 2015 Macbook Pro and it worked a treat! I'm relieved it was such a simple fix - but the fact that the component failed in an Apple somewhat dented my 'faith' a little in the much touted quality of the brand. Though this was somewhat restored by what I felt was the quality build of the insides of the Mac - certainly by comparison to pretty much all of the other laptops I've opened up over the years... Nicely done but a shame to be let down by one measly and pretty cheap component...

    I had the same problem back 2018 and I fixed it because of this instead of the overpriced repair fee from Apple. I ordered an extra ribbon cable because I knew at some point in the future this problem will be back. So I almost went the repair route like many here. We were going to have to wait 10 days and lots of cash for my wife to get her work computer back up and running. After leaving the apple store discouraged, I searched for a solution and found this. I clicked your links for the tools and the parts and had it fixed in less than 30 minutes from start to finish. I was a little unclear about how the clamp on the ribbon cable worked and was pretty nervous I was going to break something, but there was another tutorial that zoomed in closer. My 2 cents is that on those really small components, get close enough that folks viewing on their phones can see it clearly (since our computers aren't working afterall :) ). Thats nit picky. In the end, I enjoyed your delivery and explanation and am grateful for the fact that you bother to share this stuff with all of us.

    Thanks for the help! Safe boot fixed it for me. But, if safe boot alone fixes the issue then it seems to be more like a software problem rather than with the hardware, no?

    • @IAmAFixer
      @IAmAFixer  4 года назад

      Yes, more than likely. I would probably back up my data to an external drive, then do a complete format and reinstall if MacOS. I’d the problem is resolved, then it was definitely a software issue.

    I replaced a battery yesterday and also a new trackpad cable. The cable is fully seated, I did an SMC and PRAM reset method and still no trackpad or keyboard. The key oard does work to do the SMC reset using control, alt and left shift or whatever the sequence is but once booted neither work still....they worked perfect before battery replacement and I've done MANY of these on 2013-2015 machines. Thoughts? Could the trackpad have got damaged? I doubt it as I'm careful but you never know and if so, would that cause keyboard to also not work once booted up? A1502 13" retina early 2015 i7 3.1Ghz. thank you.

    Hello Sir/Dr. I have a macbook pro 15.4 late 2009 and my keyboard cable is loosed the material to join to motherboard ( I mean the metal ways that like a comb going to the motherboard got damage). so, my computer doesn't on. Do you know if I can repair the comb way of the head of data cable to the connector using some soldier materials or there is no way and I have change the whole keyboard? I've subscribed your video and liked it. I'm waiting to hear your idea. Thanks.

    Hey man, thanks a lot for the video - subscribed! Can I ask if you know, does this work with the same Macbook pro model but for non-retina? As in, do I buy the same cable? Thanks!

    • @IAmAFixer
      @IAmAFixer  4 года назад

      Thanks, glad to have you. I’m really not sure. I think the internals of the non retina are completely different. You could open the bottom and take a look. If they look the same as the video, then yes, should be the same. It not, probably a different cable.

    Very well put together video. I just finished trying everything exactly as you explained it, and it didn’t work for me! I wonder if i am doing something wrong. I have a 2015 MacBook Pro and when I turn it on the touchpad won’t allow me to push down on it (or use the curser) and the keyboard doesn’t work. The only key that works is the power button. I can’t imagine where I went wrong with the new cable that I just put in :(

    • @IAmAFixer
      @IAmAFixer  5 лет назад

      A couple of ideas. I would open it back up and reseat the cable on both ends. If it still doesn’t work, I would order a 2nd one and try again (maybe the first order was defective). It is a relatively inexpensive part to try again. If neither of those work, it is probably the touchpad which is more expensive and a more involved. Someone else who watched the channel tried the cable first (which didn’t work), then swapped the touchpad and that fixed it. You should be able to find his comments somewhere below this video. Thanks for watching!

    Thank you for the video.
    Let me explain my issue.
    My battery did not charge any longer. I have replaced it and now it works. I was about closing back the mac, and everything was working, then suddenly both trackpad and keyboard stopped. I have followed the instructions and replaced the cable. Now the trackpad works again, but keyboard doesn't. Strange thing is that the CAPS LOCK button has light on, but no button works (including caps lock: if I click it it does not happen anything; the only button that works is power on/off). As a consequence, I cannot enter the password. do you know how to reactivate/unlock the keyboard by chance? Is there maybe another cable to replace or a connector I might have damaged to check for?
    Thank @

    Hi! In my case, just a few keys stopped working (J, K, L). The first time, I reset the PRAm and SMC and it worked, the second time they stopped working I pressed the 3 Keys at the same time and they came back to life. This 3rd time I had no luck :( Do you think changing that ribbon could help?? Thank you!!!

      If it worked for a day, then I would suspect you maybe have a loose connection on that cable. Open it up and reseat the cable on both ends. If you still have issues, then I would explore replacing the touchpad. Thanks for watching!

    So happy after watching your video, ordered the ribbon and the tools. The symptoms of my MBP are exactly the same as you described but at the end it did not work for me. :-(
    After changing the cable i notice after hitting the power button it takes about 6 sec to turn on and not immediately as it used to.
