- Happy Halloween!
It's been awhile since Krellinator's made an appearance! Since then, the plan for the case has changed a bit; I have added a few more of the TipTop x Buchla line of modules, to which the whole case will be dedicated to now. I only have another 258t and a Happy Nerding 3x MIA to find, and the case will be complete!
With the most recent acquisition of the 266t Source Of Uncertainty, I am finally able to explore some faithful "Krell" patches, what the name I've dubbed this system refers to. For those who don't know, the Krell patch was a style of modular synthesizer patch coined by Todd Barton that represents the atonal, generative nature of Louis and Bebe Barron's "Ancient Krell Music" off their soundtrack for the film Forbidden Planet. While I hold true to the foundation of such a patch through the use of a randomly-timed function generator (volume swells) and a randomly-tuned oscillator (sound source), I've taken some creative liberties in terms of the oscillator timbre shift (through use of FM and wave-shaping) as well as adding a throbbing undercurrent of filtered noise to accompany. ZOIA Euroburo makes an appearance to help mix the two voices together while adding some trusty reverb and delay (and a pinch of modulated stereo panning for good measure).
Throw on some headphones and dive into the oceans of Altair IV!
