  • Sporting competitions are some of the most sought after spectator events around the world, with tickets to the biggest games often selling out in minutes, and the best seats costing small fortunes to buy. In an effort to increase gate revenues, and to give the opportunity for more people to be present at high profile events, organizers have been building bigger venues with much larger capacities that push the limits of how many people can be sat in one place! Have your bags ready to be searched, and get ready for the best view in the house… as we travel the world and use our all access pass to visit the 15 largest stadiums and sports arenas.

    Given that the heading here is for Sports ARENAS there are several glaring omissions. Some car raceways are over 300,000 capacity and meet the definition of stadia by virtue of having some seating. Also both Flemington and Royal Randwick Racecourses in Australia havve held crowds of over 120,000 on multiple occasions.

    9:46 - A clear case for the Amphitheatrum Flavium (a.k.a. the Colliseum in ancient Rome) being the inspiration for the older parts of its architecture.
    13:30 - Another clear case of the ancient Roman architecture for their stadiums being the inspiration for the Ohio Stadium.
    I just hope, these gigantic stadiums in that list can be evacuated as quick as the ancient Roman Colliseum when it was still in pristine condition.
    For explanation, the planner of the football (the correct European term for what Americans call "soccer") stadium in Shanghai did some experimentations with AI-software normally used for optimization of evacuation ways and found out that the stadium he created recently lost to the Amphitheatrum Flavium when it comes to the evacuation speed in caeses of emergency.
    132'000 spectators in that Indian stadium?
    A Roman from antiquity would say "Oh, how nice, but our Circus Maximus in Roma can hold 220'000 spectators."
    So, the ancient Romans would still win this "who has the biggest di... err stadium" contest. 😁

    FC Barcelona is owned by its club members, so "the owners" are around 150.000 people.
    And while it is true that Joan Laporta (club president) wants to modernise the stadium, the club has some serious money issues, and it's probably gonna takes years before they're gonna visualise the plans.

      The renovation of the Spotify Camp Nou has already begun. The scoreboard has been dismantled and a lot of work is to be done during the World Cup. Next season will be played at the Olympic Stadium in Barcelona, so a lot of work will also be done. After the reconstruction, we will already be on the 5th place on this list, but unlike the others, we will have a roof over the entire stadium, more VIPs, a 360-degree screen. Basically the best and most modern stadium in the world. SoFi Stadium is also good, but is let down by its smaller capacity. If you want to be the best, then it cannot fall behind in capacity.

  • @zupermaus9276
    @zupermaus9276 Год назад

    there's something to be said about the capacity and the footprint/ physical size of a stadium. Many stadia nowadays use proper seating (rather than benches), which takes up more space, although their capacities may be less than the ones featured, they're far larger in footprint and bulk.

    Just how in the hell are you supposed to evacuate these places in case of fire, weather, or some other nefarious activity?

    • @michaelstaengl1349
      @michaelstaengl1349 Год назад +1

      Normally, the evacuation methods in modern stadiums are calculated through a series of simulations.
      In a safely built stadium, there are emergency evacuation routes (in some cases not yet open for general access) and the internal layout has been created to maximize the flow of the spectators who had to be evacuated.
      BTW! Fun Fact ahead!
      The ancient Roman Amphitheatrum Flavium (a.k.a. the Colliseum) when it was in pristine condition in the antiquity could have been evacuated at least as quick as modern-day stadiums.

      In Australia football is the Australian Football League ( AFL )
      In America football is the NFL.
      The rest of the world I think soccer is called football.
      Ireland have Gaelic football. So I suppose they call that football as well.

    • @flamingfrancis
      @flamingfrancis Год назад

      Football is defined by the fact that the foot is used to promote the ball (whatever the shape) but most of these codes evolved from association football (soccer). Consequently, certain people like to look down their long noses at the codes that came after theirs. AFL types tend to look down on Rugby codes but have forgotten that their sport used a RU ball before Mr. Sherrin devised his "special" ball. All balls used in major codes are different and a soccer ball is most predictable by virtue of the shape.

    The Sydney Olympic Stadium completed in 1999, the year before the Olympics had a capacity of 115,000 and arguably should have been #2 or #3 on the list, it carried this capacity for about 5 years and still holds the record for the largest every olympic event, it was reduced in size to close in the ends to the stadium and now sits at 82,000. The Maracana in Brazil in its old configuration had crowds up up to 200,000 it too has been heavily reduced and reconfigured. The MCG in its old configuration also set a record at nearly 122,000 for an Aussie rules game.
