Michael Dinsdale - I take pride in having great sense of humor, or, as my wife would put it, I'm basically an idiot. I do absolutely agree, however, that humor, especially sarcasm, is like walking in an internet minefield.
Terrific stadium, nice fans, I took a road trip with friends to see our team play. Terrific experience, and don’t forget to have lunch at Dreamland prior to the game.
My mom was at The University of Alabama in 1988 when they put up the west upper deck. It's amazing to see how much work people put into building this grand giant. I remember when Houston played Bama in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa. I was sitting with my mom and grandmother. Was pulling for my Cougars, but had to root for Bama as well for my mother.
I remember the little fire station right outside the south enzone. Verner Elementary was south of the stadium. Did 1st & 2nd grades there. Big parking lot now.
Nice history! Thanks for posting! Ohio Stadium turns 100 years old this season….initial capacity 66k…also had dormitories in it for the honor students. Much like this stadium, a lot of the initial support and architecture is now changed out or built over. I hope to see it some day!
Yep. Opponents have been known to run screaming from the stadium after 60 minutes of play, with most suffering recurring nightmares for the rest of their lives. Just ask Leonard Fournette.
Left out the fact that in 1975, the Alabama legislators passed bill to add the current Alabama football coach's name onto the stadium. That was Paul Bear Bryant. Don't you ever forget that boy.
I was there in 1986 when Penn State beat 'Bama on their way to upsetting Miami in the National Championship. The one thing I remember, the hospitality of Tide fans, they could not have been nicer even in defeat. 👍😎
Great animatic with a thoroughly researched history. The level of detail on the stadium itself is remarkable. However, it neglects too much of it's surroundings. Other than the stadium itself and a few disproportionately tiny houses placed just outside of it, your video gives the impression of it being constructed in a remote destination with no other signs of human civilization having ever touched it. There are no roads or campus institutional buildings where they would be if you were studying an overhead photograph. By the end of the video, it appeared as if this structure was rising up out some desolate forest somewhere, completely undiscovered by humanity. Other than that, this is a very solid animatic.
gally turndrop No, you fat fuck dumbass. You don't even know what the hell you're talking about. "Animatic" is the correct term. An 'animatic' is the A/V term for a digitally rendered virtual scene that demonstrates a time lapse
Great presentation! From humble beginnings to now. And now for something completely different! The MUSIC? I swear I fully expected Jesus to come down in a fiery chariot with a passenger. Outsteps Bear Bryant on a special altar built just for him...and Jesus. They smile and bless the stadium. At future games, if Alabama loses, the visiting team breaks out in sores and pox as the final horn sounds. Really, I did...well not really, but it would have been cool.
I remember running all of the conduit for the media press boxes in 2009 before i deployed to Afghanistan. If you’re ever watching a game and it cuts to the media boxes, all of that conduit under the windows, i hung every bit of that lol
So, the bowl wasn't complete until 1966... and in the movie, Forrest Gump played there during the Kennedy Administration... meaning that the depiction of Denny Stadium as a bowl was an anachronism. Cool.
Come on down, bring your friends and wear your scarlet and gray. Last Big Ten school to visit (?) was Penn State in 2010. From what I heard/read of the tailgating, everyone had a great time. Lots of football memories and history to share. RTR
Ryan Coman - I want to mirror the comment by NVRAMboi to grab some friends and come on down. I can guarantee you will be fed well and welcomed as a brother fan. I can't promise that there will not be a bit of smack talk but I will promise that it will be good natured and followed with a laugh. Also, sorry for the Purdue thing last night, I was seriously hoping for a playoff rematch with you guys as, well, we owe ya one. Roll Tide Roll
Ryan Foss - Yeah, your post sounds so inviting, lol. Dude you guys are so buttoned up you even have patches of grass you yell at people for walking on. Oh yeah, great times for all, just be careful where you step. hahahahaha
I'd love to see a home and home s scheduled between these two schools. Let's see if we can get the administrations to do it. Bama and Penn St. did a home and home not too long ago, we need more like that.
600RRTodd so I'm assuming you were paid to do this animation but you should contact those guys down in Mobile that are trying to create a collge football game because this stadium model is 1000x what they seem to have thus far maybe it could be a win win for all of you guys
600RRTodd it's called IMV Gaming. The two guys name are Alex Lewis and Kameron Lewis, I think they are cousins. But here are a couple links one for the facebook page and the other for an article written about what they're doing. m.facebook.com/imackulatevisiongaming www.google.com/amp/maroonandwhitenation.com/2017/05/17/imv-gaming-college-football-video-game-comeback/amp/
I'm a Tide alum and fan, but I have never liked the upper decks in the north and south ends. They don't match the side decks and there's no way to join them. The upper rows are actually above the lights. Looks like a mistake.
Your depictions of the football field goal posts are not accurate until the mid-70's. The uprights used to be on the goal lines with a single goal post at 2.5 yards deep into the end zone. Very early fields had an H-shaped goal post situated on the goal line.
You're right about the shape of the goalposts, but mistaken about the location. Only the NFL had goal posts in the middle of the end zone. They've been at the back of the end zone in college for at least a century.
This is a great animation. Do you mind if I take what you have done, and show a sped-up version of this on WHNT News 19 at 6:00 tonight? Please email me at maxie.gardner@whnt.com with permission to do so. We will also link to (or embed) your video on our web story on whnt.com
Totally Random Come on down when y’all play us. You can hop into most tailgating party’s cause we love visitors. There will be a little bit of trash talk but it’ll be in good spirits and friendly with laughs. I feel like it’ll be a great game next year.
something doesn't seem right about this. I am 56 and have a vivid memories of visiting a football stadium at The U of A that was a complete bowl but was nothing but cyclone fencing and aluminum seating... this was around 1971-72 when Bama played most of it games in Birmingham. I recall this vividly.
Your memory is right. It was only a complete lower bowl at that time (60k) with chained-link fencing around the entire turfed area (a concrete walkway all the way around outside the fencing) with "swingaway" fencing at the SW(home) and SE (?) tunnels where the teams entered the stadium. The animation has taken some small license but the big stuff is right.
Bosskid2042 I went to the Tennessee- Alabama game (roll tide) and that stadium is the most disgusting thing i have even seen. The bathrooms were gross. The stairs at the upper deck were like a 2 foot drop. Everything about it was gross. I would never go back there ever again. Roll Tide Roll.
In 2020, the third deck was added, raising the capacity to 200,000.
Actually the next renovation will lower the capacity. It's to make room for the massive jumbotron.
Sam M do you know what sarcasm is?
Michael Dinsdale - Yeah man, picked up on that, just thought you would find it interesting. I'm so sorry to fluff your delicate feathers.
Sam M it’s ok, not all of us can comprehend when people are joking.
Michael Dinsdale - I take pride in having great sense of humor, or, as my wife would put it, I'm basically an idiot. I do absolutely agree, however, that humor, especially sarcasm, is like walking in an internet minefield.
Awesome video, but damm ditch the music. Felt like I was watching something about Jonestown.
hahahaha
Agreed. Great animation, but sounded like some Nazi concentration camp.
@@jonathandaniel7424 Exactly. Call me naive, use the Alabama Fight Song or Sweet Home Alabama instead of the sound track for Schindlers List.
Terrific stadium, nice fans, I took a road trip with friends to see our team play. Terrific experience, and don’t forget to have lunch at Dreamland prior to the game.
...Dreamland Rocks!!!
Dreamland is soooo overrated!
Fantastic stadium. Very grand. Fitting for a powerhouse football program. Much respect to Bama.
-Buckeye fan.
Cool video! Just... what's with the music? I half expected at the end to see "In 2016, the stadium collapsed, leaving Alabama with nowhere to play."
Sean Allen 😒
Jerk....
Agreed. The lord of the rings epic music for every Bama video is getting tiresome.
they'd just come back to the old gray lady in Birmingham
It’s not about the music. People ALWAYS have to be negative.
Then why do you like Auburn
Why do like all burn
There's nothing quite like a Bryant-Denny Saturday.
I remember the little fire station right outside the south enzone. Verner Elementary was south of the stadium. Did 1st & 2nd grades there. Big parking lot now.

I am so impressed by this. Amazing work. Roll Tide from Nashville, TN.
Michael Giles Roll Tide from the Gulf coast!! Roll Tua & Bama ♡♡♡
I may be wrong but in the early days the goal post would been in front end zone line..just saying
Yes, before 1927 they were on the goal line in college football.
Not a fan but love the history behind these types of things
Is this place haunted? Whats up with that music
Yep. Opponents have been known to run screaming from the stadium after 60 minutes of play, with most suffering recurring nightmares for the rest of their lives. Just ask Leonard Fournette.
+Britton Thompson 😂😂😂😂
a solemn place.
It’s haunted by all the dreams that have gone there to die
Do more stadiums! This was a neat analyzation!
This video takes my breath away. Absolutely fantastic. The highest quality animation. And the stadium is glorious. Congratulations. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Left out the fact that in 1975, the Alabama legislators passed bill to add the current Alabama football coach's name onto the stadium.
That was Paul Bear Bryant.
Don't you ever forget that boy.
Excellent choice in music and awesome video, thanks
What's with the depressing music
Sweet. I wish someone would do this with other historical stadiums. Like Michigan, Notre Dame,
Well honestly I think Michigan Stadium & Norte Dam Stadium both had like 1 expansion & the edition of the luxury boxes so it would be short.
Now, how soon before they start talking about an all-new, even bigger stadium called “Saban Field”?
I NEEDED this! Thank you!
I was there in 1986 when Penn State beat 'Bama on their way to upsetting Miami in the National Championship. The one thing I remember, the hospitality of Tide fans, they could not have been nicer even in defeat. 👍😎

This was pretty cool to see the progression over time. I wonder from its very start in 1929 to the last renovation, what it cost to build it.
Wow Tremendous Video looks amazing now and it's A Classic.. Bama Has It Going on!
Do this for other teams too that’s so cool

WIsh they had videos like this for all the big campus stadiums that expanded over the years.
So, the bowl wasn't complete until 1966... and in the movie, Forrest Gump played there during the Kennedy Administration... meaning that the depiction of Denny Stadium as a bowl was an anachronism. Cool.
They used a Stadium in California 4 the film.
Terrific video, that music though .... a bit dour mayhaps?
SIMPLY THE BEST UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL PROGRAM OF ALL TIME, PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
auburnsks looks like exclamation marks to me
Yup. Consistency and longevity. Fuck ND
Daniel Romberg Alabama may have smug fans from being too damn good but at least y’all aren’t self righteous religious assholes like Notre Dame.
Roll Tide. Simple as that.

To be the best, you got to beat the best (Alabama)! Good luck to Clemson, Michigan State, & Oklahoma.

Also, do you plan on doing this with other stadiums?
No clue as to what the name of the song is.

it was done manually back in the day. Had to change the numbers or write them in
Where is the center field logo?
Nice to learn the history if the stadium but OMG that music though...I swear I thought I heard it in a JFK video...geesh
Where was the press box prior to 1988?
