The mentality to win at all costs will fundamentally affect Goku in the future. He will be less merciful, unforgiving towards his enemies. Goku's respect towards his opponents helped him forge bonds with them and grow stronger. Now though...

I think Goku would be pretty humbled real fast by Tao Pai Pai and King Piccolo.
Nah, i think im with Masako here. An inflated ego would be bruised, not deflated.
Goku would have been winning for so long and against such "important people" that he would think of himself too highly. Losing to Tao would be a betrayal of his world view, not a reajustment.

Yeah but that's because Vegeta spent so much time years in fact as the Strongest Saiyan alive up till meeting Goku He had never lost a fight up till that point is what i'm mean if Goku beat Roshi and then lost to Tao I'm pretty sure He'd realize that there are always stronger foes to face and thus He'd learn the lesson Roshi was trying to teach Him I mean after all Goku narrowly lost to Roshi in that fight so Goku would be like 'If there are more people like Jackie Chun but stronger out there then I have to get stronger too' because I think don't Roshi would blow His cover that easily over one narrow super close loss.
Yeah the time in between the tournament and Tao is very short so it would probably make Gokudera think about if he really is the strongest
I think this is greatly missing a key point: Devilman, right before Grandpa Gohan. Is Goku really still pure of heart in this tale?
I think loosing to Tao Paipai and climbing the tower to train under Karin (Korin for americans) would rebuild his kind nature overall.
Besides that, He would be heavily beaten by General Blue and get help from Arale when she was stronger than him.
From 21st Tenkaiichi to the fight against Akuman (devilman for americans) there were between 2 and 5 months in time, so not so much time to change given the hardships on the way.
Overlooking the RedRibbon saga was probably MasakoX's only mistake here =)

I don't see it changing anything. He would've still gone to look for Gohan's dragonball, ran into the Red Ribbon Army, and eventually lost to Tao which would serve the same purpose.

@Den Hitashi Didn't Roshi basically *say* as much after it was all over? It has been 10 years since I last read the Dragon Ball manga, so I don't remember the exact line, but after Roshi's win he basically tells Goku what the "lesson" was and Goku's like "Right!" and Roshi's all "...I probably could have just told him there's always someone stronger and it would have had the same effect -_-"

I know I’m late. But Chi-Chi at least birthed Gohan, which did have a ripple effect.
I think without the lesson from Jackie Chun , fights that needed Goku to retreat and rethink will instead have Goku pushing for the win well past the point of no return.

i'd imagine their relationship would be much better than it is now, on top of possibly having a common interest (that being fighting, sparring, and becoming stronger), they (or at least chi-chi) would probably have a better understanding of each other's character, and chi-chi would probably be more lenient with gohan, like "you can train with your father and i, but only if you don't forget to study and do your homework okay?".

What I find interesting about this what-if, is that I can see this Goku actually being weaker than canon Goku.
Think about it, someone who completely believes that they will always win in the end wouldn't train as hard as someone who knows that there are stronger people out there and is aware of their own ability to lose.
I also don't think that the Piccolo Jr. or Raditz fights will be anywhere near the same as they were in canon.
Something else to keep in mind is whether or not that final kick from roshi that put goku on his ass, very well could have resulted in a stronger zenkai boost, which he would no longer have in this "what if"
Wow, Goku and Vegeta are gonna have one of those "I'm better than you" arguments down the road. I'm not ready for TWO Egotistical Saiyans!
I like your take, but I think that there are some plot points that you missed. Goku winning the WMAT has 3 additional effects.
1. A student of the Turtle Hermit school becomes WMAT Champion. That should get the attention of the Crane Hermit and his students sooner.
2. A young boy won the WMAT. That has to be much bigger news than normal. The Red Ribbon Army would actually know who he is this time and and would likely know that Roshi is Master Roshi instead of being the scientist behind the dragon radar. This could also lead to Blue and Black determining who Bulma is and thus targeting Capsule Corp and Bulma during that Arc to get their hands on a better dragon radar.
3. Roshi's final meeting with Goku after the tournament. He told Goku and Kuhulin that they would need to go into the world and teach themselves after they learned their lessons in the WMAT. This time around he may ask for a quick exhibition match with both of his students. Roshi is tricky so I'm guessing that he'll have them wear heavy turtle shells "you perform excellently without a handicap, but you will not always be able to function optimally against your opponents! This will be the final lesson that I will teach you before you'll be ready to accept the life lessons of the world!" He'll then proceed to use a much lighter shell than Goku and Kuhulin. Goku will surprise him with the amount of prowess that's available to him at such a handicap. Goku could still remain a bit more cocky and spoiled and actually try for the bite again, but get bested by Roshi due to the difference. "You got lucky with Chun, Goku. Despite his excellent experience and power he still forgot to keep his guard up at the end. You likely would have lost if he hadn't forgotten that crucial lesson."

Maybe because Tsuru (Crane) and Tao knew about Goku, they would take Tenshinhan and Chiaotsu along when hired to square things of for Red Ribbon.
And Capsule Corp beeing attacked is still lacking in DragonBall narrative universe, considering they work supplies and head quarters for the main roster of fighters

A simple lust for winning that maybe takes away his merciful nature or a more extreme pride similar to Vegeta. Should be fun to explore.
Hm. It will be interring to see if this effects how Chichi feels about Goku later on in the story, when they fight in the tournament. If Goku get's too high an mighty, it could maybe mean Chichi and Goku never become a thing... and thus Gohan is never born. Which would have very big effects going into Z.
You are right about Gohan not being born in this timeline.
The premise seems really shaky here. If Roshi had lost, he would have emphasized that there are even stronger opponents out in the world, similar to how he sent Goku to learn on his own because Roshi had nothing left to teach him.
There's also the issue of him winning the third tournament, becoming the world champion, and... it not really affecting his outlook at all.

I'm so interested in this. I few years back I suggested this What If to Quaaman. Since he didn't cover it like he did my suggestion about Master Roshi sealing King Piccolo, it made me think there wouldn't be any changes.
I'm excited for this. I'm liking where this is going. Goku is becoming as prideful as Vegeta.
This'll make the arrival of the Saiyans very interesting, since Goku's similarities to Vegeta will be much more pronounced.

I think Goku's "pride" in this case would cause him to relax more, his victory against Chun making him overconfident, maybe this causes him to be weaker when he fights Tenshinhan and lose?
Goku wouldn't stop training though because He loves getting stronger.
I think that after his defeat and the warning of Granpa Gohan, Master Roshi would train in secret on his own/with Krilin, and try to defeat Goku in the 22 tenkachi budokai.
Maybe even train again with Korin (i mean he did that in Super before the Tournament of Power), asking him the Ultra Divine Water in order to unlock his potential or maybe ask Bulma to collect the Dragon Balls as soon as possible in order to wish his youth back.
We could have Master Roshi has a member of the Z fighters in this Whaf IF !

Man, the beginning of this What If reminded me of the conversation TFS had during the Xenoverse 2 playthrough about how Monaka was a weaker version of the Jackie Chun lesson.

Masako, I think you're a bit off with your start point for this, here; he's already had those lessons instilled into him at this point, and when reading the manga, it's shown that Roshi's overly worried about it but Goku never was the pompous butt he thought he would be from getting stronger. Similarly, he doesn't care about fairness in a fight in terms of techniques of gear used, and never has; It's more about matching strengths with his opponent, if they're weaker than him. He has no reservations if they're stronger- and you demonstrated this more with the whole "biting the foot of 'Jackie Chun' to win" bit, than anything.
I'm starting to feel worry. It feels like you should focus on "finishing" or at least near finishing, most of all of your other what ifs before making any new ones. Otherwise there'll just be more delays for what ifs.

I can predict Kami not wanting to take Goku as his apprentice and train him because he could sense that Goku’s Ego had increased too much from defeating the biggest menace to planet earth, so Goku for three years is out in the wild waiting for the next tenkaichi budokai and expects failure when he meets Piccolo who probably becomes stronger than him but who knows.

As a kid, I always used to think that Roshi was a jerk for sabotaging Goku. As an adult, I can see that it was an act of immeasurable kindness.
I think... and follow me on this... that the most important consequence would be that Goku might lose the ability to influence and change for the better the people around him. You mentioned Totallynotmark and his analysis on Goku and the signature aspect was his ability to impose his rightfulness on ppl like Tien, Piccolo, Vegeta etc. He will not have his charisma anymore, he would be more similar to Vegeta at this point.. For starters he might join the Crane School even. That would be fun!

What if piccolo didn't kidnap gohan, that would be cool i think
Piccolo didn't actually kidnap Gohan. He trained and looked out for Gohan at first as an obligation to Goku for allowing him to have his revenge but then it turned into what it was now. And if he never did train Gohan, Vegeta and Nappa would have either gotten the Dragonballs or destroyed them. It was because Gohan had received training that he was able to stall them long enough for Goku to arrive. Krillin especially would have been obliterated. Gohan would never have been allowed to fight ever again considering that Chi Chi had lost her husband and she would be more adamant in keeping her son safe. Hell, SHE might even start training herself to better protect her family.

Also reminds me of a what if I toyed with (Mostly cos of a different tournie outcome) where Yamcha won the S1st Budokai thanks to the matches being different. Goku lost to Bacterian, Roshi to Lanfan, and Krillin to Giran, while Yamcha ultimately (barely) won out against Nam due to having a more flexible fighting style.
He basically went on to inadvertently become the main character IE superseding Goku; because while Roshi said he shouldn't look down on his win regardless of luck, he did suggest Korin if he wanted to 'hold that title'.
Leading to stuff like Goku being captured by the RR eventually and mind controlled by Gero for a brief spurt, a showdown with Tao in the base, overcoming some of his past immorality as a bandit with Tao and at Baba's and so on.
