the gm 85mm is literally the one lens in my collection of batis and gm’s that makes me eager to shoot, i cant explain it but everything from the feel to the end result is just perfect
I've been watching your videos for a while and I have to say, you're such an inspiration! You explain so well + your voice is so soft and nice to listen to! Also I feel like sometimes people talk to the models in a bit of a harsh way (probably not on purpose), but I really like how you don't do that - instead, you make them feel comfortable. Your photography style is amazing, and I'm learning a lot from you, thanks!
Nicolas is right, its a wireless transmitter from Accsoon. And thank you, I loved that lens flare photo too!! I've never seen a rainbow flare like that before so even though it was super dirty (oops, I should have wiped my gear down) I took the time to edit out all the specks because it looked so interesting 😄
@@juliatrotti I've actually re-watched your video multiple times now because of how beautiful the lighting was in those photos. Also the video and music is on point.
We learn so much from your videos! Love your sweet kind spirit! Need more youtubers like you! Just awsome Julia! My wife and i are going to pose some teen girls in a shoot and your poses really help! Thanks for making these videos to help us grow! 😎
love your content! The behind scene helps me so much! because I am trying to decide between getting the 85m and 55m for portrait and now i know ill get the 85mm. Gives me some space between me and my client.
Thank you so much! I also have a video on my channel doing a photoshoot on the 50mm vs 85mm if you wanted to check that out too :) But yeah if you want some space between your client 85 is a good lens to choose!
Hi Julia , You are very good at giving direction to your models. Their being relaxed is reflected in the shots that are most impressive ! Stay Well. This was an excellent tutorial ! 👏
Those photos were amazing. That lens is insanely sharp but at the same time the bokeh is beautiful. I felt as though Julia had to give a bit more direction to that model than usual. It worked though because those photos are stunning. Great work and a great video.
This is so good! The photos turned out gorgeous. I guess it doesn’t hurt to have a beautiful model as well. I’ve been shooting on the 85mm gm for a while now and am so happy your enjoying it
I’ve seen landscape photos on this lens and already knew this was an amazing lens. But damn! For portrait photography, this lens is SUPER sharp! 8:27 is my favorite and I feel like that is your signature style!
Wonderful shoot; the in-camera recording of how the poses looked to you as you snapped are extremely helpful. I’m about to head out and do a photo shoot and couldn’t picture well what to do with the model using the perspective of my 105mm, but this video has given me a lot. Thank you!
Hi Julia, I'm curious as to why you don't use the E-front curtain shutter. Is there a special reason for it? in this lighting situation for example? Love your work!!
Such a gorgeous session! The flare at 4:45 is perfection. I love all of your videos, they’re so helpful and you’re so talented. Do you ever use lens filters?
How do you get the photos so sharp when the lens is wide open? I have the same camera and the Sony 85 1.8 use eye auto focus but all my photos the nose is out of focus but most of yours bar a couple where her nose was out of focus her face mostly was in focus and you were using 1.4 and 1.6
Basically lots of practice with shooting wide open for many years! I have 2 videos up on my channel where I go into all the detail on how I focus in case you wanted to check them out :) That is basically what I do at every single photoshoot!
Awesome video & flawless pics love your work. I’m doing a shoot this upcoming week and was deciding if I should rent this lens and this helped out a lot , definitely gonna try it out on my Sony a6300. Thanks 🙏🏾
:85 1.2 has been one of my favourite lenses for a long time! Just bought one of the new 85 1.2 DS lenses! It only lets in the light of an f2 lens, but AMAZING bokeh!
I missed my A7III too haha, I'm finally getting some more lenses for it, so once self isolation is over I'm really excited to do more photoshoots on it!
Julia, your photos and videos are so amazing. I learn so much from you, I'm so ready to find a model, run to the park and shoot. Thank you for sharing and teaching me your skills. BTW, I gave you a shoutout on my Instagram too.
Ahh thank you so much and yesss you should do it (as soon as it is safe to do so!). I'm really glad you enjoyed my video + thank you for the shoutout - it's always appreciated, especially in a time like this 😊
Wonderful work, Julia. I love this lens also. It's a really cheap one considering the quality it produces. Fully recommend in combination with a7r-iii.
Thank you and I agree, I was really surprised how crisp the photos turned out, reminded me a lot of my shots from the A7III. Can't wait to film a proper review video about it when I can be behind the camera, kinda hard to do that when you're not actually using the camera/lens haha 😅
HAHA omg I got confused and thought you commented on the video I posted yesterday 😂 Sorry if that totally confused you! Thank you again and I have my hands on the A7R4 at the moment, would absolutely love to try the two together
Can you please tell me how did u get such a detailed image when 100% cropped. Is it because of the sony a7iii or 85mm 1.4. Cause I'm trying to get this clarity in my 5d mark iv with 50mm f1.8 and 70-200 f2.8, but it's no where as detailed as such. And I really appreciate as u got such a perfect image without any reflector or external lights.
It's actually a mixture of both. The a7iii sensor does not have an AA filter like the 5d mkiv which in turn utilises the sharpness and quality of the GM 85.
Thank you! I used eye af and when that didn't catch the eye, I had a small focus point I would move the eye instead. And from memory I'm pretty sure I was using servo AF :)
Thank you!! No I haven't tried it yet but I would LOVE to! I've used the Tamron 35mm 1.4, 1.8 and Tamron 35-150mm and am super impressed with the quality of their lenses.
Why when you take pictures you don't look at the viewfinder you just look at the rear display, the viewfinder is too small to look through it or is it so small that with such a large lens it's hard to look at the viewfinder?
I just don’t find it that comfortable to use. When I use the LCD I find that my posture is better, I’m not squinting my eyes and I don’t have to touch the camera with my face haha I only use the EVF if it’s really bright and I can’t see properly!
I would agree in this case, but to be fair we had REALLY bad conditions for that EOS R photoshoot on the beach. I honestly think any camera would have struggled to work with the colours and weird lighting we had on that day! A more fair comparison would be this photoshoot on the R: ruclips.net/video/FC5BRY6a_Ds/видео.html where we had a similar location and similar lighting :)
I don’t think I’ve ever commented on your videos but I’ve followed you for a long time. Definitely appreciate the time and effort you put into your RUclips channel! Quick question on the WiFi transmitter...when you are in live view, it automatically transmits whatever live view is showing? I would imagine that would work with the EOS R and eye af as well?
Unfortunately it doesn't work with Canon cameras, both mirrorless and DSLR's in live view. It's a Canon output issue, you loose viewfinder/LCD output as soon as you run a HDMI output. We're still working on a different solution for Canon.
Dan Podbierezki Interesting. So there’s no real way right now to record whatever live view is seeing on canon cameras? Maybe they will fix that with the R5.
One of the few channels that combine technical reviews with really gorgeous shots.
Thank you so much :D
one? Literally the only. Too much talking and cuts in so many other videos. This is the only channel that goes in deep with the portrait shoots.

I had the same thoughts watching the video.
The photos with 100% are stunning!
what is that recorder thing you has at the bottom of the camera? Also, I loved the rainbow flare at 4:44. It looks soo dreamy.
The flare looks way better than the modern green flare which I find ugly.
Hey mocha mocha, it looks like it's a Wifi HDMI Transmitter, like PFY EagleEye or Accsoon CineEye 1080P can't be totally sure tho.

Now during Corona times it's a good idea to use an 85 mm lens to keep the distance to your model. Smart thinking Julia. :-)

Custom fabricated.

We typically only have B+W UV filters on all our lenses.
