    One the gamest and gutsiest performances I've seen in a G1 race for a long, long time by both Noble Mission & Al Kazeem. Just when it looked like Al Kazeem might have Noble Mission's measure, that big heart of Noble Mission's kicked in, took over, and carried the day. A much deserved big race success on a stage of this magnitude for Noble Mission, who's had quite a terrific season himself. 7 starts on the season and he's gone 7-5-2-0 with G1 wins in the Tattersalls Gold Cup, Grand Prix De Saint-Cloud(via DQ), & Champion Stakes. Plus, G3 wins in the Huxley & Gordon Richards Stakes, and two-2nd's in the G3 John Porter Stakes & G1 Grosser Dallmayr-Preis.

      I love this comment. Of course, if I had been reading such a comment a year or two ago I would have laughed and thought you were a maniac talking about Noble Mission as a multiple Group 1 winner, giving a game and gutsy performance in a Group 1 race! But what Noble Mission has done this year, and especially today, is fantastic to see. A great racing story; far greater than any criticism about Champions' Day.

    I'm not entirely sure how many times the mare Kind has been bred now to Galileo, but the two times we know about for sure have proven to be a pretty lethal combination. They've produced a Horse of the Year with Frankel and now an older Horse of the Year with Noble Mission. I'd imagine any future Galileo x Kind offspring that come up for sale at auction will really fetch a pretty penny.

    This is the race that made me fall in love with racing, and my first winning bet after lady Cecil said the ground was in his favour I had 25ew at 7/1

    Sure, Noble Mission isn't as good as Cirrus Des Aigles (in his prime), Frankel or Farhh but he served up the race of the season with a titanic effort delivering a heart-warming and tear-jerking win on one of racing's biggest stages. How can anyone ask for more than that?
    Despite the ground, the weather and the departures of some real big names, British Champion's Day was once more a roaring success.
    (It may of helped that I had a little touch on Bronze Angel at 25/1...)

    Still can't quite fathom the run of CDA, he had his preferred ground or did he..? He's been such a star over the years I'd hate to see him finishing down the field too often, he'll be 9 next year, in his prime if he was a 3 mile chaser....

    14-1 ante post baby! Knew this race was made for the beast.. and so glad to see him fulfilling all that potential Sir Henry knew he had in the locker.. It really was a fairy tale story for Lady Jane Cecil.. what a blessing it was to start using forcing tactics from the front with this horse.. genius.. I hope he stays in training but if he's now retired, he well and truly deserves his place along side his big-bro at Banstead Manor Stud...
    Also.. I must say.. the run from Al Kazeem must have rocked the racing world.. it was actually a better training performance than Noble Missions, which is saying a hell of a lot.. to come back from stud and almost win the biggest race in the calendar.. my goodness.. you can't help but be amazed..

    The going did for half the field, Cirrus was the Frankel measuring stick, but didn't like the ground. An interesting race, and good to see Noble Mission win.

      +Christy Dolan The going was declared as heavy and yes it did for half the field. CDA does go well on soft, but he did not even place. My comparison was with Frankel not Treve. It is v hard to compare French racing with a race at Ascot as the styles as so different, hence Frankie's win in the Arc on GH.

    This race was fantastic with a top class field of horses. The mud certainly did not ruin this race - it was heavy going but so what? some like it & some don't - simple as that !! Noble Mission & Al Kazeem fought like tigers, right up to the finishing line to make it a thrilling finish - what more could you ask for !! Such gutsy performances from both horses. Noble Mission just had that bit more though - a worthy CHAMPION. So pleased for Lady Cecil - who has been so brave in difficult times. I'm sure Sir Henry is so proud of you.

    This race was ruined by the mud the horses were forced to run in. The fact that Noble Mission won it says it all. This is meant to be the Champion stakes.......Noble Mission a champion? Really... To me this seriously devalues the race. All the talk about Frankel too, the C4 presenters were nearly crediting Frankel with the win, when in fact it is all to do with Galileo! And there wasn't even one mention of him. The fact that even an average Galileo can win this race shows just how good a sire he is. I'm also not overly impressed with Free Eagle. If he is all he is cracked up to be, he should of been able to win this, even in the mud, and on only his second race of the season. He is out of Polished Gem whose only win came on heavy ground, and High Chapparel who won the Racing Post trophy on heavy. He is bred to handle it, and to my eye, he did, but was just not good enough. I have no doubt he will be better on nicer ground next year, but still has it all to prove for me. Even if Australia had not got injured, he probably wouldn't have run in that mud - so hard to know how he would have fared here. Al Kazeem was 6 lenghts behind Australia in the ICS with what was surely the worst ride of the season, so you could prob easily add on another 3 lenghts to that if another jockey was on board. Different ground tho..... The Champion stakes missing the two best 10 furlong horses of the season..........hard to really justify its title then.

      Noble Mission, a 117 rated horse wins 'The champion stakes' and you believe this race is worth it's title? Al Kazeem absolutely ran a fine race, but I don't think he is back to his best, and was perfectly fit when running in the Irish Champion stakes when comfortably held by TGG and Australia. The finish was of course exciting, but that does not take away from the simple fact that this meeting is being destroyed by the shocking ground, this year being the worst as it was officially soft the last two years, heavy today. Losing The Grey Gatsby on account of the mud was hugely disappointing. Having Cirrus run gave the race it's headline star, but unfortunately time has caught up with him. Noble Mission is not in his league, nor Frankel's, nor Farrh's. They are top class Group 1 horses. Noble Mission is absolutely not that, but clearly handles the mud. He beat Magician in the bog in the Curragh, and then got awarded the other Group 1 after Spiritjim (a 119rated horse) was disqualified, he then lost to Lucky Lion in a German Group 1! Another 117 rated horse. He is no star mate. My bet in the race was Al Kazeem to place, which he did, (I also thought he ran a good race in the Arc and knew he handles soft) so I am not commenting here because I'm bitter over losing money, I was just pointing out that a Champion Stakes without the two best 10 furlong horses of 2014 in it is not worthy of it's title. Fair play on your tiddlywinks or bowls point too mate. That cracked me up

      Flintshire is a very inconsistent horse, who ran a career best second in finishing second to Treve. He did not run anywhere near his best that day. While I do agree that the 117 is maybe a tad low, he is no more than a 120 horse. All Kazeem, another 117 rated horse was beaten 6.5 lengths by a 126 rated TGG. There are multiple justifications for Noble Missions current 117. He should be raised for his win today. But again, it just proves it was not a vintage renewal, and the ground was a factor in that.

      MTumbles Time has caught up with Cirrus Des Aigles has it? In the 2 weeks since it won at Longchamp and was harshly DQ'd. Or since the Coronation Cup win this summer? Get a grip. Look at the bare facts - Frankel won the race in 2012 in a time of 2m10.22secs and Noble Mission won the race in 2m11.23secs. A ONE SECOND difference and NM was running on heavy going. Farhh ran 2m12secs last year. Despite what you think the times do not lie and it was a high quality race.
      It was a great training and riding performance as they paced it perfectly. You should give credit where it's due instead of trying to pick fault in the race. The heavy ground was ideal for NM admittedly but that's hardly the horse's or the trainers fault unless you think they were out with the watering cans in the night.

      That's unfair IMO. The horse was always going to go well in the ground. He won that race on merit, no excuses for the rest, like 'mud'. ALL of them were bred to appreciate cut.. He looks a late bloomer too. Showed the guts of a champ.

      While it is a nice story. The winner was beaten in a German Group I by Lucky Lion and the runner-up's best piece of form was winning the Group III Winter Hill at Windsor. It was an exciting race but the form pales when compared to the Irish Champion Stakes and the Arc.

    The lesson of this race don't hire jockeys who follow the rules. AKs jockey stopped whipping in accordance with the rules NBs didn't broke the rules, whipped the horse over the Line won, and got a few days holiday in which to count his prize money. If I was AKs owner I'd never hire this jockey again, losers follow the rules in horse racing.

    • @101wildgoose
      @101wildgoose 10 лет назад

      carlos jones It's not about jockeys who follow the rules and more about the jockey knowing how much his horse has left to give. I would think AK's jockey knew he was getting everything he could out of his horse and didn't need to whip it. Don't be a sore loser.

    • @carlosjones8712
      @carlosjones8712 10 лет назад

      I'd wouldn't have picked AK in a million years so I wasn't on it, I'm just a fan of fair play and am disgusted when people cheat to win then keep the prize, which undeniably Doyle did do. As for your conjecture about AK performance and speculation about AKs jockeys beliefs we will never know, but personally I'm a 100% certain if the jockeys were reversed AK wins the race.

    • @carlosjones8712
      @carlosjones8712 10 лет назад

      +carlos jones Disgusted really. Did you see how many times George Baker used his whip? No because Doyle put it in his left hand at the finish.
      I'm sorry but I don't know what your getting at with this reply, what I do know is Doyle felt it important enought, to "take a ban" from the Melbourne cup and breeders cup to whip this horse illegally over line, if his cheat was of no consequence why would accept the loss of all that future prize money. As for bakers sportsmanlike respone to losing I'm sure he's still regrets doing now he knows why he lost.

    • @carlosjones8712
      @carlosjones8712 10 лет назад

      We know how many times baker used the whip because it's counted by the authorities, thus we know baker didn't cheat like Doyle. Jockeys all know how many times they use the whip, it's a key part of their occupation and in this case Doyle evaluated the risk/reward of cheating an acted accordingly. From what I've seen he's quite open about, so I dont a problem with me describing what happened.
