The form of this race is very strong.. Fascinating Rock went on to win the Champion Stakes, The Grey Gatsy was an unlucky loser of the Prince of Wales, and Postponed won the King George, Sheema Classic and Coronation Cup..
I'd say Postponed improved around 4lb throughout 2015 and a further 5lb throughout 2016.. (so about 9lb or 4 1/2 lengths since this race) .. and therefore looks unbeatable against the older horses in the Juddmonte international over 10 furlongs. People say he may not have the speed for 10 furlongs but a proper look at the Coronation Cup tells a different story - he has exceptional speed for a middle-distance performer.
However, against the 3 year olds (Hawkbill and Wings of Desire) he has to concede 8lb in weight for age - Time Test (rated 5lb inferior to Postposted - and who's form with Mondialiste was franked in the Arlington Million) was beaten over 2 lengths in The Eclipse by Hawkbill (The Gurkha franked the form somewhat in the Sussex Stakes, and Ribchester followed up on that in the Jacque Le Marois) - and considering further improvement is likely from Hawkbill - and Postponed has had a much longer season - it shouldn't come as no surprise to see Postponed involved in a real scrap and possibly come out on the wrong side to one the 3 year olds (Wing of Desire won the Dante at York, so has CD form, and Deauville who he beat that day, franked the form in the Belomont Derby (G1) and was perhaps an unlucky loser of the Arlington Million won by Mondialiste - Wings of Desire and Hawkbill will likely have more to come and the weight for age allowance may just be too much for Postponed to overcome).
But as a fan of Postponed, I hope he wins and wins comprehensively - and heads to Chantilly as the one they all have to beat in this years Arc de Triomphe! :)
