On some helmets you can't really tell how comfortable it is until you hit that 1 hour mark. I have an HJC helmet that fits and feels OK but after an hour of riding you start to get HUGE migraines, enough so that you have to pull over and take a break. It really sucks.
Nice tips! There's lots of stuff about DOT/Snell and different styles, but insights into the EPS lining and vents, plus the advice about how to fit a helmet for one's head, is great. Thanks for making this video!
Warning about full face helmets. I got some taco bell one day and the ride after that was pretty interesting. Bring some mints if you plan on eating. Lol.
i think that thing called a "chin skirt" or "chin curtain" i prefer a helmet with no vents except on the chin bar, they are much quieter and your head remains it's natural temperature for the most part. i have found the best way to try on a helmet is to take out the cheek pads and see if the foam liner fit's your skull right, with no pressure points or large gaps. i think that's the method arai or shoei recommends too.
Great review. I have a question, I'm looking to get a new helmet for next season, and I really want to add a communications device to it, like a Sena or similar. My current helmet does not have room in the inside to comfortably add the small speakers that come with the communications devices. I noticed on your test helmet that you had such a device installed. Does this helmet accomodate those speakers comfortably? Are there "pockets" built in for those speakers?
This Torc helmet does indeed come with built in pockets for a helmet communication system. They also have many helmets that come with a built in communication module, though I cannot comment as to the functionality of that just yet. I'm only beginning to review the functionality of that. I do personally own a Sena SMH10 and, since you mentioned it, I will point out that the speakers on the Sena fit inside any helmet with a built in pocket for them. That being said, the speakers on helmet communication systems are VERY thin If you have room in your helmet to stick your fingers up and touch your ears while you are wearing the helmet, then you have room to fit a communication system into the helmet.
MotorcycleProjects Great, thanks much for the reply. My current helmet, an HJC, is pretty tight on the sides to the point it's somwhat uncomfortable even wear earplug style speakers so I'd rather just get a helmet designed to accomodate separate speakers. I'll definitely be checking out Torc.. On a side note, I didn't even realize you were Dodge Rider lol, I watched your second review as well.
This video helped me out a lot, thank you for posting this. I on the other hand am looking for cheap helmets due to the cost factor and I will not be riding as a passenger very often, not ready to invest big money. With that being said do you have any recommendations on cheap priced helmets (brands and good enough features for the price). Ventilation is a must since I'm a hot head. Yes, I realize I'm asking a lot. Thank you.

This are things nobody says to you, LOL. I had some Mexican food too one day and I burped inside the helmet. Man I wanted to die.
Probably the most useful and informative helmet video I've ever seen on youtube..
+Sponge1310 of all time lol
